I have a 2002 KIA Sedona that I just had new drums, brakes and brake kit put on. The braking is fine, however I hear a clicking sound from the backend now when I apply the brakes when I just about come to a stop or lightly braking in my neighborhood. What is causing it and how dangerous is it?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2002 Kia Sedona mini van with about 143,000 miles on it. It runs great outside of a noise I am getting from the rear driver side wheel. When ever I go over a bump I get a clank sound. Took it to the dealership and they told me it is due to shock, but that the shock is not bad. they said that a rubber piece on the shock and mounting area is missing and that the metal sound is coming from where that rubber piece would be. They took me and showed me and at the top of the shock where it attaches to the car there is no rubber and when they pushed the car up and down I could see the the two pieces of metal would hit and make the sound. The dealership said they saw nothing wrong with the shock itself and feel it is safe, however they were not sure how this rubber piece feel away.
Does this make any sense?
I have been told that my back brakes need replacing and the place suggested it would need to include replacing the drums. They wanted about $400 for new drums and pads and such. I have never in all the years I have owned a car had to ever have anything but pads replaced on any of my cars brakes. I have had the car checked a number of times and no one till this last place who was also replacing my front wheel baring said anything about needing new drums and such. If the drums were that bad would you not hear something or feel something while braking?
My car: 2002 Kia Sedona Mini van/149,000 miles on it, I got it with 135,000 on it and have not had any break work done to this point because I was told it wasn't needed.
I have a 2002 Kia Sedona mini van and one of the issues with this van is that the metal cooling lines that run from the engine area back to the back of the van heating core rust away and have to be replaced. Can you just cut those away and put like a u joint on it so that the anti freeze doesn't go back there and thus reducing the huge cost of replacing those lines? Yes I know that means no heat in the back of the van but I don't use the heat back there now and haven't through this past horrible winter. I am just trying to reduce the cost I am looking at for this repair that I know I am going to have to address in the coming months.
View 12 RepliesI just replaced rotors and pads on my 2007 Sonata. I got top of the line premium rotors and ceramic pads from Napa. Cleaned the oil off the rotors and gave them a light sanding before installing, made sure that the caliper bolts moved freely and the caliper pistons were not seized and also used new hardware kit (springs?) that came with the pads.
Everything seems to be ok, except for a clicking sound that occurs on hard breaking as the car is coming to a stop. I think its caused by the pads moving within its mounts (I did notice it was very easy to slide these pads into the mountings, more so than in previous pad replacements).
Reading from other posts I think this is still safe, but the clicking does bother me, should I use pad adhesive to stick the pads to the caliper?
I've got a clicking in my car right now, it's not a constant noise, but only after I've been driving awhile without using my brakes. Slowly gets louder and louder. Goes away completely when I put my brakes on for a second and starts again when I let off of the brakes. Its speed related, so its quicker when I'm going faster.
View 1 RepliesI work at 5am and for the past few weeks ive noticed a clicking sound coming from driver side engine while on the brakes at a red light... it only happens early in the morning before i hit the highway and it drives me crazy! its like one of those portable fans and you put your finger on it and click click click click... but once i let go of the brakes its gone and back on it, it starts again... ive never had this issue in the texas weather but maybe cool morning is doing this? i have 18k on it, that would be great! i am do for an oil change at 20k and can ask them but idk if it will do it while at the dealership but maybe i can find the issue and fix it now.
View 14 RepliesI am getting this weird clicking/ticking noise coming from the rear of the car. I might have to let someone drive the car and follow and listen for myself (but i dont like other people driving my car), but its definitely coming from the rotation of moving.
It is audible moving forwards and reverse. It speeds up as the speed increases. It comes from the passenger side and can hear it mostly from the sound bouncing off things from the outside. I cant feel it, its just an annoying sound. I still hear it while applying the brakes. Sort of sounds like flicking sound. Pads have plenty of life and changed my rotors about 20k ago.
I've read somewhere about brake pad spring busting but its still audible when the brakes are on so I don't think that's it.
I am having a issue with my 07 accent. Had front rotors and pads replaced because they needed to be. Clicking continued. Had drums and shoes replaced last month. Clicking went away for a few weeks. Recently started back up just the other day. The clicking is only when applying the brake and it sounds like it is coming from the right rear drum. It doesn't interfere with stopping, but it s so annoying and brakes shouldn't make that kind of noise anyway.

View 1 RepliesI had my window down as I was backing the car into the garage today and heard a metallic clicking noise from the rear as I tapped on the brakes. The noise only happens when I am in reverse. When I put it in drive and move forward there is no clicking noise. As an AZ resident its rare for us to have the windows down so to be honest I cant really say how long this has been going on for. My car was just in for service for oil , tire balance, and alignment this saturday

I've been hearing a clicking sound when I hit the brakes. Not a thump or a growl, just a metallic click. I'm wondering if it's the pads or that retaining clip or possibly the ball joints. New brakes & rotors this past fall. I just started hearing it now that I can drive with the windows down. Can't hear or feel anything with the windows up.
So I figured I would crawl under her today and grease up the ball joints, Pittman arm and whatever other grease fittings I see. Well, I don't see any? I have a few on my 7.3L's but I don't see any on the front end of my 6.0L.
I have 2002 camry 4 cylinder and the car currently has about 300,000 Km on it.

View 11 RepliesI have a 2002 Camry that has been having a tough time starting in the mornings over the last couple weeks. Today I went to start the car and it wouldn't turn over at all. My battery is pretty old, so I just presumed this was the issue. I went and got a new battery and put it in, but still not starting. In fact, the car isn't even turning over at all (no clicking sound that I associate with lack of voltage from the battery). The car just makes a faint "whinning" noise.
All the electronics/lights in the car are working and when I turn the car on the check engine light, abs light, etc turn on. Doing a little searching online, I found that when I turn the ignition from "on" to "start" the headlights should dim and all of the interior lights (check engine, ABS, etc) should go off. They are not going off or dimming, but I'm not sure exactly what this is indicative of? Is this lack of headlight dimming/interior lights going off a tell-tale sign of something ("that is for sure the starter")?
Should I pull the starter and take it in to an Auto Zone type shop for testing, or is there something else I should be looking at first?
I just took my 2002 Subaru into the dealer to have them fix a fuel line leak that I was hoping was on recall (it wasn't). I don't take my car to them regularly but they had to be the ones to diagnose it in case it was a recalled part. They called today and said that the fuel line was leaking onto my engine, that there was no recall, and that because they heard a ticking sound coming from my engine they were predicting my cam bearing was giving out and it would be $3000 to fix it. I asked how they diagnosed it and they said they have a guy there who knows the sound well and can hear it and predict it accurately, but they didn't actually take the engine apart or anything to check.
I'm feeling a bit confused. I will have my mechanic look at it and ask him what he thinks but he did my brakes not too long ago and did not mention any concern about the clicking. I change my oil like a responsible car owner and take care of it, but it does have 200,000 miles on it. I need to drive a long distance in a couple of weeks and am wondering if my engine is about to give out....
I drove my '02 Camry last night to a restaurant and when I came out it would not start. I have never had any problems with my Camry. I have a new strong battery.
All the lights, bells, radio, a/c, door locks, dash lights came on and work fine. There was no clicking sound of the starter. It would not turn over at all. NO SOUND AT ALL. I did move the shifter handle several times thinking it may have been the kill switch on the shifter.
My CEL is on and according to Auto Zones code checker read a P0340 on my 2002 KIA Sedona with 160400 miles. It said Camshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction 1 or single sensor.
So what should I do now? Van is running as smooth as ever so not sure what I should do.
