yesterday I heard a faint rattle coming from under the hood while the a/c was on, when I had my son turn it off, it went away. Right now it's barely noticeable, but I don't want it to turn into something major. I own a '08 ES with 88,000 miles and all my service is done at the dealership.
View 1 RepliesI took my car in for an oil change and they said I should get the fuel injector and upper intake manifold and valve cleaning treatment. When I picked up the car I noticed a rattle or low pitched ticking sound coming from under the hood. The car has an automatic transmission and the noise frequency increases and decreases with the rpm's. It only happens with the car in "drive". For the seasoned followers, it sounds like the sound we got from fastening baseball cards onto our bike frames to make noise as the wheels turned - just describing the sound. When I took it back to the Mini dealership in Phoenix (who shall remain anonymous), they said I needed a new transmission.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2010 LS 460 Sport and recently noticed that there is a faint water sound coming from behind the glove box every time I accelerate from standstill and sometimes when the car is idle and the A/C is on. My initial thinking was that it is some sort of a clog in the A/C drain, and that's what I told my service supervisor at the most recent service at a Lexus dealership. They said that they could not find anything except for a bit of debris in the A/C drain, which they blew out, however the noise is still there. The best way that I can describe the noise is that it's similar to a noise that a rainstick makes.
View 3 RepliesI just got home from a 650 mile trip and I have pinpointed something I have been hearing for a while but couldn't figure it out. It's a very very faint rattle (something like the sound a hard drive makes) and it seemed to be coming from behind the dash. I experimented a little today and this is what I noticed.
It is actually coming from somewhere around the gas pedal and it only does it when you are neither accelerating or decelerating. In other words, when the engine is at equilibrium if that makes any sense. It's a tiny sound and I should just turn the radio on and forget it, but it's just one of those little things that bugs ya.
I recently purchased an 08 ls 460 and started noticing the infamous clicking sound coming from the ABS brake actuator under the hood. A $3000plus fix that is not in the budget nor will it ever be!..After doing some research trying to figure out what the actuator does i stumble across this Lexus technician PDF ...
..It clearly states on page 2 that "If a Toyota ABS system malfuctions, normal braking will not be affected!...My worry has never been the sound it makes,.. but that of me not being able to brake when needed!!...

Has rattle that sounds like it is coming from the centre of the dash? It sounds like a piece of tin sheet metal is rattling faintly. I wouldn't think a fuel line rattle would sounds like that, but maybe I am incorrect? Putting pressure on the dash with your hand doesn't seem to make it stop.
We also get the creek in the l/h side that I had assumed prior that it was from the door seal when the body flexes.
MY Ls460 2010 AWD is making annoying ticking noise since I bought it 2 months ago ( 76k milage ) , it seems that the sound is mainly coming under the hood on right front fender side .
View 6 RepliesI have some FAINT clicking noise at the rear of the 08 LS460 and I'm thinking it's rear bearing going out..but not sure...what exactly does bearing failure sounds like? I hear this SOFT clicking noise from (more likely) the right rear. The noise is very faint and I have to roll down the window to actually hear it.
If I move through the neighborhood at about 15-20 mph, I hear this clicking faint clicking sounds..and if I speed up a little, the clicking noise increases (in frequency, not loudness). When I go faster like on freeway or normal road, I can't hear it anymore. Probably clicking too fast or not as loud at that speed. With windows up, I can't hear it at all.
Is this has to do with rear bearing going out on me or possibly something else? Any recommendation where I can start looking at? Is it brake pads? The car is 35K miles but since it's 08, unfortunately it's out of basic warranty (time). Is this covered under powertrain?
I just noticed that when I start my car I hear a constant whine sound. When I press on the gas it gets louder. When I'm stopped I hear it whining. What it may be?
View 14 RepliesToday I drove my 2006 G2 Prius with 59,000 miles to the park and had the windows down. I climbed a hill for a good while that had the engine under load and there was a concrete wall beside me, and I could hear a very very faint metallic-like rattle. I mentioned it to my partner who listened and said he couldn't even hear it, so maybe it is just me.

View 5 RepliesI purchased a Certified Pre-owned 2008 Lexus LS 460 in January 2011 with 29,000 miles. On April 2, 2011 I was parking my car and smelled wires burning and then saw smoke coming out of the hood. I immediately cut the engine, got my kids to safety and called 911. The firemen threw water on the engine and disconnected battery. It was towed to a local Lexus dealer and has been there since. They believe it was the starter, but the repairs as of yet are not complete. I submitted a claim with headquarters to give me my money back or a comparable vehicle. I am concerned about the safety of this vehicle and any residual chemicals and smoke that may remain with the vehicle.
View 12 RepliesI have a bit of a question about my 2007 Ford F-150 w/ the 5.4 3V. I don't know how long it's been doing this, I just happened to notice it not long ago. Whenever I rev the truck (doesn't matter if it's in Park or Drive) in between 800-1,000 RPMs it makes a "rattle" type sound - like a "rat-tat-tat-tat" I guess is one way of putting it. It only does it when the engine is hot, it won't do it when it cools down some. The truck has 63,000 miles and I've always ran the recommended 5W-20 weight oil. Engine runs good, no power-loss or anything like that. I have posted a video on YouTube of the sound. 2007 Ford F-150 Lariat 5.4L Triton V8 Rattling/Ticking VCT Phaser Noise?
I parked my car last night in front of the house at 11:30pm last night. The car has not been driven since. At around 1pm the next day my car alarm went off and I went to shut it off and noticed very minor misty smoke coming out of the hood by the windshield. I opened the hood and could smell electrical smoke. I could not find any noticeable damage. Checked fuses and relays. Does not seem to be a problem. However when I get close to the fuse and relay panel under the hood I could hear a clicking and very distant occasional hiss sound. I tried to start the car and everything seem to work but when I push the start button nothing. At this point I disconnected the battery. I called lexus and the rep said he had seen this before and indicated that it is probably a ground or something that corroded and shorted out.

View 10 RepliesI have a 07 gs350. My car wouldn't start this morning let alone turn on. I heard this constant beeping noise coming from the hood and it was the battery. I unplugged the battery and the noise stopped. But once I plugged it back in the noise came back. I was in a rush to get to work this morning so I just unplugged it and let it sit for a few minutes before plugging it back in to see if it work.. it did not. This battery is only about 1 year old too.
View 3 RepliesMy 2 week old IS 350 Ultra white/Red F sport is in the shop for the rattle that feels to me to be under the car under the driver's seat. The dealer cannot figure out the problem after a day, so is keeping my new car. At least they were able to hear the rattle.

View 14 RepliesTrying to find any information on what's happening with my 2008 2.2 Diesel Santa Fe ... Been driving fine until I pulled up at a set of traffic lights yesterday and started hearing a loud rattle- knocking coming from the engine at idle.
Put it in gear and drove and it goes away. When at idle if you rev the car it goes away.
Mechanic seems to think it could be clutch as it vibrates the gearbox, but sound seems to be more prominent around the engine, my thoughts were maybe a loose timing tensioner.
Clutch replacement is very expensive.
I have had my 2010 GS450h for a few months now and about a month after I bought it, I noticed a faint rattle from the steering column, almost like there is a loose bolt or something. It is getting more noticeable (especially on broken pavement/rough roads) It's annoying and the only issue I have with the car.

There is a very pronounced metallic rattle coming from the rear of the cabin when going over moderate sized bumps or listening to audio at moderate levels. Did some troubleshooting and have narrowed the noise down to somewhere above the rear center of the headliner. If I press slightly upwards on the headliner at this location, the noise stops.
