Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Steering Wheel Shaking / Vibrating On Braking At High Speed

Nov 30, 2008

Lately my 2007 GX470's steering wheel has a shaking/vibrating problem whenever I apply the brake at speed above 50 mph or so. Without braking or with braking at slower speed, there is no problem at all -- everything is glass smooth.

1. I assume the front brake rotor is warped?
2. Will I need to change the rotor or is there a way to fix the warp (it that's the problem) without changing the rotor?
3. Approximate part & labor cost?

I plan to bring to dealer for a check up but would like to know ahead of time what to expect.

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: 2008 - Vibrating Steering Wheel While Braking At High Speed

I own an 08 Rx350 at 70k miles now. This is my first car ever; my parents bought it brand new and gave to me as gift after I graduated from college. I try to take good care of it; whatever the dealership tells me to replace, I replace it. I follow the maintenance schedule and owners guide to a T. I never really paid attention when my parents drove this car...but I don't know why my car vibrates when I get maybe above 60 mph and try to apply the brake. I do not brake hard and now I pretty much avoid applying brake and just let it glide. Is this normal? Whenever I visit the dealership they do a complete check up. All the check up results are normal;nothing wrong with tire trims, brake pads, suspension etc.

Camry :: Steering Wheel Shakes When Braking At High Speed

I have an 05 Camry LE & when ever I'm on the highway going around 50-80mph & need to break my steering wheel starts to shake until I either stop or put my foot back on the gas. Last year my power steering rack & one of my motor mounts got replaced, & for awhile it stopped & figured because that was going out that's what was causing it.

Well about a month later it started back up & still does it, I've taken it to the dealership & have told them & they test drove it, felt the same thing I felt but didn't find anything. Is there anything else that could be causing it ? Earlier last year my bearings were lose in the front, and I managed to get my brakes stuck & had that all fixed & since then that's when it started shaking . I took it back to that shop & mention every time I go in for oil changes at my dealership, is there something else I'm not aware about that I should ask them to look at ?

Some history of the car:

Just did pads and rotors 2 weeks ago,

Camry :: 2009 4cyl - Steering Wheel Shakes After Braking At High Speed Going On Highway

I've been noticing my steering wheel shakes if i normally brake going on the highway at high speed. My friend said that it's probably your brakes and rotors. Get them replaced and resurface and that should fix the problem. Can i get some confirmation before i do this?

1. I just had my tires replace at 55k and bought this car new back in feb 09. it has 62k.

2. also i've been reading up on camries fail water pump. i'm thinking of doing this over the weekend or should i just wait until i notice some leaks?

3. lastly, any major thing i need to be aware of. i've done the normal engine oil and filter change, cabin and engine air filter change, that's about it. i hope these camries are bullet proof like the old school (92-95).

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Steering Wheel Vibrating Between 55 - 65mph

I just put 20" Status Game wheels on my 07 GX. I have had them balanced twice and between 55-65mph the steering wheel vibrates considerably. Is there a fix for this? New steering box valve, hub rings.

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Steering Wheel Vibrating At Highway Speeds After Tires Rotated

Just rotated my tires this weekend and noticed today that the steering wheel has a vibration in it at highway speeds, 65-70mph. It did not do this at all before I rotated the tires, why it's doing it now? Tires are fairly new and Bridgestones H/Ts.

I know my rotors are warped and need replaced but the vibration I'm referring to is when I am not braking.

Lexus GX 2010+ :: Steering Wheel Vibration When Step On Brakes At High Speed?

I purchased a set of new LTX MS2 tires back in October and a week ago a got a nail on the right front tire, specifically the side wall so they couldn't fix it so they replaced the tire with a new one. Now when I step on the brakes at 60 mph, the steering wheel vibrates. Can the new tire be causing that? I looked at the weights and one set of weights is taped kind of crooked, can the balancing cause it too?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Steering Wheel Shaking When Braking

My 1.8t gli is giving me this issue, when braking (specially hard) my steering wheel shakes side to side, my rotors got changed less than 20,000 miles ago (all of them) and they seem fine right now.

Could this be my Tie Rod ends? The car has 110,000 miles on it, and i know some bushings if not all need to be changed, which I am gonna be installing when i put on the Raxles i just got.

Honda - Pilot :: Vibrating In Steering Wheel Particularly At High Speeds

I am feeling a vibrating in the steering wheel in my SUV, particularly at high speeds (the highway). I just had front brakes replaced a month or so ago. But the tires I have were new a year and a half ago, I think. Is the vibrating a tell tale sign that I need new tires? Or is it something else? Could I rotate them and get more miles out of them?

Camry :: Shaking Steering Wheel When Braking At Above 60mph Speeds

700 miles ago I got new brake pads on all 4 wheels and new rotors on the rear wheels. 700 miles later the steering wheel still shakes when braking at above 60mph speeds. Also there is still a squeak sound coming when braking. Do I need to give the new brakes and rotors more time to adjust or were they installed wrong?

Acura - TSX :: Pulsating In Steering Wheel (shaking) When Braking At Times

I have a 2007 Acura TSX with 117k miles. We had the rotors and pads replaced in July of 2014 at Midas (won't go back there again!). Anyway, we are getting a pulsating in the steering wheel (shaking) when braking at times. Sometimes it is much more noticeable than others. This started shortly after having the pads/rotors installed. I took it back to Midas, and of course they couldn't duplicate the issue.

So, here's my question, can we continue to drive the car until it needs new pads (then I'll change the pads and rotors)? I know that the steering vibration can be annoying at times (it's not AWFUL, but you can tell that they're warped). I really hate to have to replace both right now as money is pretty tight with buying a house.

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Steering Wheel Shaking / Vibration On Comfort Mode At About 55 To 60mph

I'm getting some vibration and steering wheel shake with my '04 GX... I have a 2004 GX with the differential dynamic damper installed. About 55-60mph it starts, and shakes the steering wheel back and forth. Sometimes it's completely smooth, but on other road surfaces it shakes. On full "comfort mode," the shake is much worse, but on Sport mode it dampens the shake to about 10% intensity, but it's sometimes still there. This is not bump steer, by the way.

So far, I've done:

-Brakes
-Alignment
-Front hubs
-2x wheel balancing with 2 different sets of wheels/tires
-lubed the drive shaft and prop shaft to fix the clunk (Clunk TSB has not been done)
-changed the power steering fluid
-checked all control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, and sway bar bushings. All are solid.

I recently jacked up the front end and moved the wheels back and forth by hand. It seems like there is some looseness coming front the inner tie rods. However, I pushed and pulled and can't get a clunk or anything. I think it's coming from inside the steering gearbox. My VIN says it's before ST002-05, so that TSB aka "Steering Flutter" would apply, if it is that.

After 104k, are the front shocks due for a change? It does seem to nose-dive a bit on braking, but the shocks aren't leaking or anything. Would worn shocks cause steering wheel flutter on these trucks?

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Shaking Steering Wheel And Pulsing Brake Pedal At Speeds Above 55mph

I bought 09 GX-470 4K miles ago..has 50K on it. Ran perfect when we bought it. wife said it started doing it 1 week later. I drove it and felt like warped rotors to me. replaced front rotors and pads with cheap wearever brand...I Know...I was sort of trouble shooting..did nothing ...did the back rotors and pads and seemed to fix it..did proper bed-in of new parts but, never checked at speeds above 55mph. recent trip got us up to speeds above 55... at these faster speeds when brakes are applied we get a nasty wheel wobble and a pulsing pedal...braking below 55 it feels fine.. thought's ?? last car was a 4runner which has the the same rotors and pads and never had a problem...could it be ABS ?? should I go with new oem rotors and pads ?

Lexus SC430 :: Steering Wheel Starts Vibrating At About 65 MPH

I recently purchased a low mileage 2002 SC 430. The steering will starts vibrating at about 65 MPH, and it lessens, or even quits vibrating at about 80. I am not sure if it is the tires needing balancing, or the current set of tires not being particularly good. I think the tire brand is Rotalla, or something very similar. I would like, when it is time to put a new set of tires on the car, to get some non run flat tires (I am not sure whether the current set are run flats or not), as I read on this forum that the ride is much better on non run flats. However, I do not have a spare in the trunk. Are the small, temporary spares easy to come by? Does Lexus sell them and how much? Is there any other alternative to consider as I do not particularly want to get a flat when driving in the country without a spare.

Lexus GS 2006-11 :: 1998 - Steering Wheel Vibrating Hardly - Struts?

I have a 1998 Lexus GS300 with 178,000 miles. I feel a shimmy in the steering wheel at about 60-65 MPH. I don't feel it at slower or faster speeds than the 60-65 MPH range. It also seems it's worse at the beginning of a drive and improves with time, but never really goes away. It has been going on for a few years.

I thought a when I bought new tires few months ago and had them balanced and aligned that the shimmy would go away. It did improve, but it didn't go away completely. My mechanic said to put 500 miles on the car to break in the tires then bring it back in to re-balance them. That didn't work.

He said that it could be the struts, but that they aren't leaking. I plan to keep this car for another 60,000 miles. Have the struts gone bad? Does it need to be replaced? Is it safe to drive if I don't replace them? Any consequences if I don't replace them? Is it worth it?

Camry :: 2005 - Steering Wheel Shaking At 70mph / Beating Noise On Speed Increase

I'm sensing a light steering wheel shaking when reaching 70mph. Also during the process of increasing the speed from 25-30mph and above I can hear a sort of beating noise which becomes more consistent when increasing the speed. Car goes straight (no left - right wandering). Now I'm assuming it may be something related with the bearings, but I guess the only way to find out is by sending it to a repair shop to understand if the noise come from one or two bearings and from front or the rear bearings?!
