When backing out of same parking spot, I always hear a clunk, clunk, clunk, noise in the front while turning the steering while back in the fixed position. I have heard this noise in the past but did not think any thing of it.
It's hard reproduce this noise, it seems to only be happening when backing out and turning the steering wheel. Car only has a little over one thousand miles.
When I was reversing back and turning the steering wheel. I heard a metal clunk sound and it had happened twice in the past two days. Today happened after I released the parking brake and set it to reverse. What is the problem? Miles on the car is ~30700 miles.
View 2 RepliesWhen making turns and occasionally during slowing and accelerating, a klunk or pop sound comes from the front of the vehicle. It is a F-150 STX 2011 2WD shortbed with 16,000 miles. Engine is 5.0 with 6 speed auto. Previos owner had (before returning to stock) put a lowering kit in, headers back exhaust, intake, tuner, etc. Truck is butchered a bit from pos previous owner. Front end components have all been checked, bolts torqued. Even the cab mounts have been checked. The only thing that can be seen that might contribute is the cat crossover supports have been hacked off.
View 1 RepliesA few weeks ago I noticed a 'clunk' noise when turning the steering wheel. It only did it the first turn on a trip. Over time it has gotten worse - the sound is the same, but it happens for several turns, maybe 10 or so, before it stops. After the car sits, turned off, for a while, the cycle starts again.
I replaced the rubber coupler on the MDPS, but my old one looked fine, and it made no change in the noise.
I have a 2003 Lexus GS 300 with 125k. Two problems. First, the back doors don't lock or unlock electronically (well, very rarely one will unlock). The only way to lock/unlock them is to manually reach around. It started with the driver's side back door almost two years ago, and in the past 7-8 months the other one started doing the same thing.
Also, the steering wheel automatically moves out of position when the key is removed, and automatically back into position when the car is started. A nice feature, but the steering wheel screams when it moves up and down. It's loud and embarrassing.
I'm hearing a clunk when I back out of my garage and cut the wheel to the right full stop. If I turn the wheel lock to lock I hear some clicking. Both of these sounds seem to emanate from the left front wheel area.
I have 26,000 miles on the car. Any conjecture as to what this could be?
You can hear the clunky, groaning noise around 8 and 11 seconds when I turn the steering wheel, making a tight u-turn in an alley way.
What can it be..? I hope it has something to do with my tires since I'm getting new ones today. The current ones are pretty bald.

My RX350 is a 2007. Recently replaced the two front struts and noticed the passenger side is exhibiting this peculiar clunking/clicking/popping sound when turning. It mostly happens when turning in motion but once in a while when parked. Clunk/click sound usually only occurs once, or in a short series of 2-3 times, during turning.

Noise is almost silent at the strut mount/bearing, so I suspect it's lower in the assembly. Can feel the clunk/pop vibration with hand placed on the lower spring seat.
Took the tire off and thoroughly inspected things. No tears/leaks in any joint sleeves/bushings. Tie rods and CV joint look fine, as do strut mount, bearing, upper spring seat, insulator, rubber bumper, sleeve, and spring. None of these were replaced during the strut replacement as everything looked great and with only 55k miles.
I've not been able to reproduce the issue with the engine off, nor when the tire is off the ground when jacked/lifted.
During Google searches, it was suggested the culprit is likely either the strut mount/bearing or CV joint. We removed the strut today and everything looks the same as during the install. We can't reproduce the sound with just moving the knuckle around with the strut removed. Strut mount/bearings look in excellent condition.
2005 2.3Liter 4wd Mariner, 225k miles
I have been experiencing clunk noise on the front end when braking or accelerating and turning wheels.
I have replaced: front control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar bushings and stabilizer links and 2 days ago I replaced strut mounts and bearings.
The steering is smooth after the strut mounts replaced but I can still hear cluck noise mostly on left now when going over bumps, braking and accelerating.
Car also has new engine/trans mounts.
I am so lost right now because I cannot figure out what is it. The only thing I didn't replace are the struts but the I test them and they seem to function fine.
Just like the tittle says. My 2011 ISF with 56k miles on it is making a Clunking noise when pulling out of a parking spot or just anytime I fully steer to the left side and begin to move. If I try it in reverse it doesn't matter if I turn the steering wheel fully to left or right it makes the same noise as I begin to move at slow speed. It almost feels like something is pushing the front wheels out. During normal driving I don't feel anything at all, just as steady as solid the car can be.
Is there any common issues with ISF with premature wear of ball joints, cv joint, sway bar bushings or hub bearing?
I have a 2007 elantra. I drove it for a while, then my ma needed a car (her tercel was a little unsafe) so I traded her. She loves the car, but as sometimes is the case, her dealer is not very nice. She has a severe side to side knocking noise in the steering- can be easily duplicated by sitting with the car idling and turning the wheel back and forth, even a little. Doesn't correspond with driving over bumps unless the wheel is inadvertently turned by the bump. If the suspension is unloaded (front wheels off the ground), noise disappears. No EPS lights, no codes in any system.
Listened with a stethoscope inside the car- not that loud through column within car. Inner and outer tie rods are tight, noise is not heard loudly with stethoscope through struts, upper mounts, lower arms. Under the car with loaded suspension (rhino ramps), noise is deafening in the rack, with a stethoscope. Dealer told her it needs a steering rack, I definitely understand why they would say that as the noise is clearly audible through the aluminum housing directly below the entrance of the column shaft into the rack. Only TSB I found was for a worm shaft flexible coupling, but the TSB says this is bump related.
So from my previous post of might having a tranny problem or differential issue, it turns out that my front passenger side wheel hub is bad. Here is the odd part......the front passenger side wheel has some side to side play and it does make a clunk noise but it spins freely. On the driver side, there doesn't seem to be any play but it has resistance when spinning the wheels. Are both front wheel hubs bad or just one?

View 6 RepliesSo recently, my car started making whining noises upon turning the steering wheel during cold starts. Now, it does it when the car is warmed up too. From what I can hear, its only during slow speeds. Can't take my car to the dealership anymore cause they will charge me $140 diagnostic fee for whatever issues I'm having due to my car being "tampered" with previously. (It's all stock now).
View 4 RepliesJust picked up a new 2014 rx fsport and 75% of the time I release the e-brake it has a loud clunk as if metal smashing metal. I tried releasing it really slow and it still does the same. The vehicle is parked on flat pavement. It is not a low click noise that I am used to but a loud clunk.
View 6 RepliesI have just noticed a random knock on front end on 2002 430 sc when going 5 to 10 mph and turning steering wheel to left or right...sounds like metal to metal and shifting or movement knock ... turning left, sound on passenger side; turning right, sound on drivers side..brake system checked out ok; had struts, plates and insulators changed; checks were made on torques to all front suspension bolts and everything is tight and no movements in bushings and etc.. totally baffled and really an annoying sound......ball joints are tight and no movement.

View 6 RepliesJust when I thought I understood how to use all the controls on the 2006 V8 Phaeton I got two weeks ago, the steering wheel has thrown me a curve.
I have pressed the button on the column that makes the wheel move back when I turn off the car so its easier to get out, then it moves back to the set position when I start the car again. But for some reason, it moves back, but no longer moves forward to the set position when I start the car again. Have I done something by accident to change this function?
My front driver side wheel is making clicking, ticking noise whenever I turn right. I am not sure what it is. Other than the clicking and ticking noise when turning, the car itself is running fine.

After that start to here a shuddering intermittent noise from the front of the car more clear on turning the steering wheel, sometimes I here a metal on metal noise on bumps, axle was a brand new one and a press garage pressed the bracket on it..

It's embarrassing. I have taken it to several different shops and nobody seems to be able to figure it out. What it could be?
