I have a VERY serious oil leak from a rubber cap thats connected to the oil filter bracket and I dont now what to replace. Should I replace the rubber cap or is it something else? Heres a picture I took showing what Im talking about:
The car is a Automatic 1998 1.8t if that matters. Also, what is the part number?
I have a 2006 vw jetta with about 145k miles on it. When I had taken it for oil change, I was told that there is an oil leak around the oil filter bracket and was given a quote of about 1100. Here is my confusion about. There are no oil spots under the car where I park it, never seen a drop of oil under the car. So where actually is this leak happening? How serious is it? The car doesn't burn a lot of oil either, the oil level doesn't go down drastically and don't have to add oil till oil changes.

View 1 RepliesOk where to start. I have a 98 ford explorer with a 4.0l OHV engine close to 280,000km. There is a leak coming from somewhere around the oil filter but there seems to be oil coming from more then one spot. Second issue is when a idle the voltage seems to die a bit until I hit the gas and it returns to normal but this issue seems intermediate at times. And I have just replaced the oil filter for the second time no second gasket.
Also I am having a tranny shift flare problem from second to third and when it is under alot of pressure in the bush going up hills it just kicks out of gear and roles back. And another issue is seems like maybe my power steering pump may be bad when I am idiling it seems to pulsate and when I change the position of the steering wheel the pulasting will go away or not be as bad.
2001 Passat Wagon ... After a heavy rain last night I noticed a very wet driver side floor area. My car was parked and I've never noticed any wetness while driving. What are the steps to take to figure out where the leak is?
View 6 RepliesWell yesterday i installed the Neuspeed Intake and had no trouble what so ever until 30 min ago when i pull out of the parking lot abit harsh but nothing extreme no wheel spining or anything like that just a bit quicker exit.
That's when my check engine lit up and i pulled over and checked what was going on and heard a air leak, which is located to the left of the intake filter.

Fuel line after the fuel filter going to the engine has sprung a leak...
Either way fuel line part number 561-130-307 is leaking wanted to give another heads up to people who are experiencing diesel smell inside the cabin...
I have a 1.8t and my coolant is leaking pretty fast. From what I can see it is coming from the oil filter area. I hope it is just an oil cooler O ring. What else it could be?

Its looks like the leak probably the back of the oil pan.
View 2 RepliesI have been trying to fix a coolant leak at the rear of engine (1998 1.8T AEB); the flange (2x 10mm hex bolts) of the black metal pipe that runs from the back of then engine on top to the front.
Tried adding silicone RTV, leak. Cleaned and tried black RTV, leak; and now O ring is cut.
The pipe has about 32.5mm (= ca. size of O ring ID)
The hole/flange has about 37.5mm (= ca. size of O ring OD)
I need to find a new O ring. Looking for
- the correct dimensions?
- Official name?
- Part number?
- Source?
New floor mats. My truck is going to be 10yr old and has the original King Ranch floor mats. I want some heavy duty rubber ones that will fit around my manual transfer case lever. I ordered the Weathertech digital fit liners and I am not happy with them so they are headed back tomorrow. They have a heavy duty all weather mat but not sure how it will work with my shift lever on the floor. Husky liners/mats look nice and heavy duty but won't accommodate the floor lever.

View 5 RepliesI just bought a 98 Ford Taurus, I've driven maybe 600 miles on it so far and it's been fine until recently. It first started with this jerking it was doing. I would press on the gas and it would do this jerking thing. And when I would pull up at a stop sign or put it in park it will do that jerking thing too like it's going to stall but never does. Then last week I start smelling this burn rubber smell, and then I saw a little bit of smoke coming from the right side of the Hood and then the check engine light came on.
It doesn't over heat though. Last nite I was driving, I pull into a parking spot and put the car in park and the RPM 's kept going higher, it scared me so I put it in drive and they went back down. I was going home and as I was driving I took my foot off the gas but the car kept going faster anyways. That's hasn't happened again but the burnt rubber smell, the jerking, smoking, and check engine light keeps happening. It's my only car.
Iv got a 2000 passat 1.8t and the shift linkage bracket broke, so i got a new one but my problem is how do i get the linkage cable off the old one, and onto my new one. Is the cable supposed to be able to break into two parts.

It sounds like that cartoon "rubber being stretched" sound or maybe a little like plucking an overly tightened string. It doesn't affect driveability but I've been dealing with this for quite some time and I'm trying to sell it now... it's a major buyer turn off.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2003 Santa Fe with 187,000KM on the clock. The mechanic noted on it's service that there is a heavy oil leak and suggested it might be the valve cover gaskets or the timing cover. I had the valve cover gaskets replaced by a friend, but unfortunately the car is still leaking oil - presumably from the timing cover. The driveway is covered in oil, the car smells while being driven and needs topping up with oil. I have kept the car going for a while like this, but am uncomfortable with it.
The mechanic suggested there is a possibility it could be a water pump causing the leak and the repair on this would be super expensive, but they can't tell until they're inside.
I have a 1998 Ford Ranger, 3.0 4X4. Purchased in early 2002 with a clunking problem which has not gotten worse or better. When I take off it is a heavy double 'clunking' like something shifting and the settling. I have had 4 mechanics look at it, have changed the front u joint and have had the motor and transmission mounts checked but the mounts are OK. Can't figure this out. I talked to a person at a local car parts store and he mentioned that it could involve the 'yoke' and that it just might need to be greased but he was just guessing.
View 9 RepliesWe noticed a burnt rubber/oil smell coming from our '01 Subaru Outback, no engine lights were on. When I looked under the hood, all the fluid levels looked good, but I noticed on the left side, about two thirds down the side of the engine, there appears to be a leak of gooey brown oil? from a hose running up over the engine. Do you think this is the source of the smell? What this is, how much it will be to fix or if we can safely drive it to the mechanic (we are about 45 min from town)? See photos here: [URL] ... View 4 RepliesI am doing the usual upgrades on a 2005 F250. What started as a small leak at the rubber coupling between egr tube and oil cooler turned into doing everything else while motor is down this far.
I am curious what the difference in the upgraded oil cooler is? Well besides not prone to failing as early.
What is the part number for the drivers side aluminum tranny bracket(automatic)? Or a how to to remove it, cuz mine is fractured badly and needs replaced.
