View 3 RepliesThis is what’s wrong with my 1998 Honda CR-V manual transmission. When it’s off, the gear stick works normally. However, when I start the car, the gear stick gets stuck and won’t move to change gears. It happened before a couple times and if I warmed the car up for about 10 minutes it worked normally again, and normally the next time I drove it. However, this morning, the gear shift would not work even after warming it up, except when the car was turned off.
View 5 RepliesToday, without explanation the shift indicator on the dash on my 98 Passat Wagon highlights all gears. When you shift to any gear. . . . the display does not change. Further, shifting is rough from 'park.'
I noticed this problem after looking at all the fuses to see why the radio was not powering up. I have checked fuses. . . . and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in.
After driving around hard for a couple minutes I got home and the car smelled like something is burnt then I went out to drive normally to get the smell out but didn't work. Then I realized my gears were hard to move into especially 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Its hard to change into those gears now. what could be the reason? What do i need to do for my gears to move smoothly again? I just got this car, my first.
View 5 RepliesA few days ago when it was real cold my car would not shift into any gears. I shut it off and started it in neutral and was able to get it to shift, but after leaving it for a day or two it now will not go into gear. I have tried starting it in neutral and park, but it still will not let me push in the little thing to allow me to shift into reverse or drive. Why this might be happening or had this happen to them?? I'm thinking it might be related to the really cold weather. It's a 97 passat...Automatic....

View 1 RepliesI've just bought a 2002 Passat, v6 5 speed manual with 119,000 km on it. When I shift through the first two gears the rpm are not dropping immediately... about a 1 second lag. I haven't had a clear answer about what it is I have called two dealerships and two independent mechanics except. They say that it could be a variety of things that might be wrong with the throttle body.
View 6 RepliesI am considering buying a 98 Passat, it has 140k kms (80,000 miles) on it. It is in mint condition, but the transmission, will not shift past 2nd gear, whether in Auto mode, or manual shifting? (5 speed tiptronic).
The current owner took it to a mechanic, he tested it, replace a sensor in the tranny, but the problem is still there, and the engine light is still on. Is it possible that the computer just needs to be reset with a proper Vag-com?
I have a 1997 chevy s10. Speedometer stopped working..abs lights come on once in awhile and wont shift into other gears. I have replace speed sensor, computer, wheel sensor and ignition switch assembly.

View 5 RepliesWe are having issues shifting the car it is hard to shift into gears. I have replaced the transmission and the clutch, trans mount is still good all mounts for that matter are still in great condition its getting tiring to have to slam the car into gear all the time.
View 1 RepliesSo my 2010 Camry LE with manual transmission has developed what I figure will be an expensive problem. It oftentimes grinds when I shift from 1-2. If I pause between the two it's fine, but if i just go straight to 2nd it grinds about 75% of the time so that I have to go back to neutral, let out the clutch, reengage and THEN go into 2nd gear. What could cause this? I'm stumped. There's no issues with any other gears and it does the same thing if I got from 3-2 also. It's to the point where I try to just skip using that gear. It's got about 135k miles.

I have a hard shift between 3rd & 4th gears, I have had the transmission replaced twice. Could it be something else?
I gotta 93 f150 XL it has a 4.9L and a T18 borg Werner trans. I replaced the clutch,throw out bearing, pressure plate and pilot bearing and after reinstalling trans I am unable to go through my gears.
If truck is off I can shift into some gears sometimes but not without a lot of resistance. Also some gears will let me in easy, then fight me as I try to back into neutral.
Truck starts right up but if I start in neutral I can't shift into any gears and get a lot of grinding when I try to put it in gear.
If I start in gear it drives in the gear but I have to force back into neutral. And then I'm stuck in neutral again.
It is a hydraulic clutch and fluid is full and there are no visible leaks. I am 100% sure clutch disc is facing correct way as I triple checked it while installing.
I have an auto transmission 98 nissan pathfinder that I bought brand new way back (in 1998 of course) that seems to have problems shifting into higher gears. When I'm going on a level hwy, I'll get going to 70mph and see the engine rev to 4000 rpm's. It'll stay there for a while (minutes to 10's of minutes). Then the engine will shift to a higher gear and the rpm goes to 2500. Then it shifts back so rpm is 4000. This happens back and forth unpredictably. When it's reving at 4000 rpms I tried letting my foot off the gas and the rpm's drop to less than 1000 like there's no load the transmission. Then I press the gas pedal again and the rpm jumps back to 4000 rpm's. I've had the transmission checked a few times and found nothing. I've changed the transmission fluid, had a major tune up, changed the timing belt, but it still happens. People keep telling me it must be happening on a slight grade but, no, it's on a flat road. There is no 'problem light' that appears either (like a check engine light). I've driven many other cars and they don't do this.

View 7 RepliesI have a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse. When I start my car, it will only go through second gear. If I stop, turn the car off and back on, It will go through the gears and I can drive normally. I am now just putting the car in neutral while driving, turning it off and on again and it will shift like normal. Otherwise, it just stays in the lower gear. This has been steadily getting worse meaning, I would only have to stop and start the car once on a trip and now it is whenever I slow down to a lower gear. Every now and then it will jerk also. I thought it was a transmission issue but the transmission worked fine most of the time when this started and still does except when I slow down. The interesting thing is that it works fine when I turn the engine off and on again so I was thinking something else. The guy from advanced auto said it was possibly a power issue with something that makes the transmission shift and the transmission guy said it was electrical.

Today when leaving the house the car stays in first gear, you can move the shifter through the gears but it wont shift up. Reverse is fine. Checked the oil level in Neutral when hot and it was ok. Hooked up my code reader and there are no Codes. Car only has 85,000 KM on it.
View 5 RepliesOccasionally the car would shift rough though the first few gears and then clear up. It did throw a code awhile back, but I didn't take it in right away as the check engine light went off. Last time in they were unable to find a code and I was down to the last 100 miles of the warranty. I was heading in to get the sunroof repaired (For the 3rd time I must add) and on the way there it shifted rough and the check engine light came on. Good timing indeed as I am second owner. Turned out it was the transmission temp sensor and so far it seems resolved. The sunroof needs all new parts besides the glass so they will have me come back at the end of the week. Other then that car is running great and I am still getting around the 35MPG with 80% freeway.
View 3 RepliesMy 03 Gli 24v manual transmission has been acting up lately. First it started to get a little difficult to shift into gears about a week ago. Then tonight i was driving through a parking lot in 2nd, and after i came to a stop i tried to put it back in to first and it would not go into gear. As i was trying to get it into 1st i could tell it was grabbing a little bit and the car was inching forward.
I got it to a parking spot and starting reading about other peoples issues, one i read said they were able to get it to move after pumping the clutch some. After trying that i was able to get it into gear and drive it to my parents. Looked at my brake fluid and its full. Took it for a test drive around the neighborhood and it was shifting fine at first then started getting a little difficult to shift again. I tried taking off in 6th and it stalled. I tried going from 1st around 3k-4k rmps to 6th and it was still driving with very little lugging. My clutch feels and is still stiff, not loose at all. I do have to go all the way to the floor with the clutch before im able to shift
Finally to my questions. Could my clutch be going bad? Could my cables need adjusting? Something I read about a pressure plate maybe?
i've got an accord 4 cylinder with an automatic transmission that does not engage any of the other gears when i shift it out of park. all indicator lights are out except for the park position on the dash.
