I have a 1997 chevy s10. Speedometer stopped working..abs lights come on once in awhile and wont shift into other gears. I have replace speed sensor, computer, wheel sensor and ignition switch assembly.

I am trying to get some advice on a diagnosis for a transmission problem i'm experiencing with my vehicle? It's a manual transmission and the sound i am hearing is when i shift gears is a loud whirling grinding sound. It's really loud in 2nd 3rd and 5th and doesn't stop.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1997 - Transmission Hesitates / Struggling To Shift Into Gears?

1997 2.3 5 Speed. My poor truck is having a hard time shifting into gears. I have bled the master off the truck with the correct method, bled it on the truck with the hose on the slave method while pushing the pedal and multiple times with no bubbles coming out at all, no leaks, etc.

Here's the breakdown -

- Clutch, slave cylinder and shifter bushings replaced about 3 years ago (everything has less than 7000 miles on it)

- While driving and pushing in the clutch, it clearly disengages, although quite a ways down.

- Only shifts hard while running. If I sit with it off with the clutch in, I can shift through all the gears with no effort whatsoever. At times while driving, it gets so hard to shift that it may become dangerous.

- Only things I haven't replaced are the master cylinder and the flywheel.

Should I just assume a bad master and just replace it? It's the original with 188,200 miles on it.

Forgot to mention there are times that when I am at a standstill trying to go into reverse, it grinds like the transmission is still engaged.

92 Chevy K1500 Blazer Goes Into Neutral While Shifting Into Some Gears

My 1992 chevy k1500 blazer full size is having trouble shifting from 1st and 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. I reset the linkage it did fine for a day and now it's doing the same thing but it almost goes into neutral while shifting into some gears. And seems to lack power, the 92 doesn't have cyanoids and the transmission was redone 2 years ago when I got the truck. Could this have anything to do with the fuel filter? I know the transmission isn't bad. The Rpms are shooting up way too high.

Chevy - Caprice :: 1989 Transmission Slips Completely In All The Forward Gears

Last night transmission in my beloved '89 Caprice Wagon let go, it slips completely in all the forward gears. I was coming down a long hill using low gear for several minutes and when I put it back into OD at the bottom it seemed to skip a little but it was still making power well enough. I got off the freeway at my exit and stopped at a red light, when the light changed I was revving high but barely creeping through the intersection. I pulled over and this is what I figured out:-All the forward gears make essentially no power any more.-Reverse seems to work normally.-The fluid is at a normal level and not discolored or burnt smelling.

I don't know if this is related or just an amazing coincidence but the water pump also seems to have blown the gasket at the same time. I must have just happened within a few minutes of me pulling over because there was still a ton of coolant left and the temp was still in the normal range. I don't see how they're related but, like I said, the timing is too coincidental. Earlier this week but just a few miles ago I also topped the power steering fluid and oil.

It's a 200-R4 transmission, is it toast? Why does reverse work but all the forward gears slip completely? Is the water pump just a red herring? I did drive the rest of the way home in reverse.

A couple times recently, I've been unable to shift my truck out of Park & the brake lights don't work.

After checking the related fuses & finding them to be ok, it all works again.

What might be causing this to happen?

Cavalier :: 2001 Chevy Will Not Shift Into 1st / 3rd Or 5th Gear

I have a 2001 chevy cavalier, the base 2.2 model with a 5 speed manual transmission.

I can't shift into 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear. On occasion I can get into 1st but it pops out almost instantly. I have the shift boot up, it looks like the shifter won't go far enough to click into gear for the top 3 gears.

2nd and 4th don't have any issues, reverse works as well though can sometimes be more difficult than usual.

I have a stumbling engine when my chevy shifts into over drive. I have new plugs wires dist rotor coil ign module fuel filter air filter. Checked timing with auto advance unplugged and it is not @ TDC but about 4 deg advanced. It is also not consistent in its stumble.

Silverado :: 1993 Chevy 2WD - When Accelerating RPMs Go Way Up And Won't Shift

I have a 1993 Chevy Silverado, 350, 2WD. It has a 4L60E transmission. I just started having a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd. When accelerating the RPM's go way up and won't shift until I let off the throttle. Then it shifts into all other gears normally.

If I accelerate slowly. it will shift into 2nd at about 16 MPH. It will then shift into all other gears normally. I have replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, flushed the transmission and replaced the filter and fluid. This made know change in performance.

I am now suspecting that it might be the 1-2 shift solenoid. The check engine light is not on and everything else works fine.

Silverado :: 98 Chevy Truck With 4L60E Has No Second Gear - Shift From 1st Into 3rd

I have a 98 Chevy truck with a 4L60E. It has no second gear. I was sitting in park for about 10 minutes with the engine running, then put it in drive and it never shifted into second. It felt like it went straight to 3rd. I played with it manually until I figured out I had reverse, 1st, 3rd, 4th and torque converter lockup, just no second gear. My acceleration rate was medium and when I reach about 27-28 mph it would shift from 1st into 3rd. It has 230K on it so I rebuilt it with all the typical parts - frictions, steels, band, sun shell etc., still no second. I then pulled the pan back off and replaced the spacer plate and put in a shift kit. While I had it down I put a corvette servo in and did an air check. It worked fine. I could feel the band tighten.

Both the 1-2 and 2-3 solenoids checked good at 23 ohms. I swapped their positions to see if it would make a difference. I also checked to make sure the 1-2 accumulator piston wasn't stuck in its bore, the spring was new from the shift kit. It was fine. Put it back together...still no second gear. When I originally pulled the pan off for the rebuild, the pan was free of any debris and was very clean. I then drove it a couple of miles to a local transmission shop. They put their scan tool on it and drove it around the block. There were no codes and the ECM was calling for second gear. It doesn't sound mechanical since almost all the parts have been replaced, rebuilt or inspected that affect the 1-2 shift. It sounds electrical. Is there anything I have missed?

Chevy - Malibu :: 2011 Will Not Shift Out Of First Gear Into Reverse - CEL Came On

I have a 2011 Chevy Malibu, with a little over 100k miles on it. A couple weeks ago it started acting a little funny when I would shift into reverse after starting it after sitting for a while. I thought it might have been due to temperature as it didn't do it after the car had warmed up or when it was warmer out.

Yesterday it started acting up really bad, will not shift out of first gear, and will not shift into reverse, and the check engine light came on. I was able to get it up to O'Reilly's to get the codes. It came back with 2 separate codes.

P0700 - Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL IlluminationP0776 - Clutch Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid - Stuck Off

The guy there seemed to think that the second code was probably caused by the first one, and most likely the TCM needs replaced. It makes sense to me, but before I head down this path I want to get some input, as it is a little over $300 for the part.

My dad's 1996 Chevy Silverado will not shift into hi gear. The truck starts up fine and he can drive it but for some reason it won't shift into hi gear. Him and I are clueless as to why it won't. Camry :: 2010 LE - Grinding Gears When Shift From 1st To 2nd

So my 2010 Camry LE with manual transmission has developed what I figure will be an expensive problem. It oftentimes grinds when I shift from 1-2. If I pause between the two it's fine, but if i just go straight to 2nd it grinds about 75% of the time so that I have to go back to neutral, let out the clutch, reengage and THEN go into 2nd gear. What could cause this? I'm stumped. There's no issues with any other gears and it does the same thing if I got from 3-2 also. It's to the point where I try to just skip using that gear. It's got about 135k miles.

Passat (B5) :: Automatic VR6 Will Start But Would Not Shift Into Any Gears

A few days ago when it was real cold my car would not shift into any gears. I shut it off and started it in neutral and was able to get it to shift, but after leaving it for a day or two it now will not go into gear. I have tried starting it in neutral and park, but it still will not let me push in the little thing to allow me to shift into reverse or drive. Why this might be happening or had this happen to them?? I'm thinking it might be related to the really cold weather. It's a 97 passat...Automatic....
