Passat (B5) :: Windows Are Down By Itself - Door Lock Mech Broken

Dec 10, 2011

A while back my driver side door lock mech broke and the key literally would turn 360 degrees. The same day I looked out and all the windows were down. I put them up confused but then five minutes later they were down again.

Who would have guessed that the mech that unlocks the door also puts down the windows? Certainly not me. Is this feature normal? After fixing the door lock windows stay up but it was a learning experience.

Passat (B5) :: Door Lock Module - Windows Will Not Go Up / Down Nor Will Alarm Set / Unset

Well it looks like the controller in the driver door is going bad. The key will only lock or unlock the driver door, the windows will not go up/down, nor will the alarm set/unset. The remote works as normal; it locks or unlocks one or all doors and sets or unsets the alarm. The lock/unlock button on the driver door works normally. The doors lock as they should above 10mph.

I've sprayed electrical contact cleaner in the lock several times. This did not improve anything. I wasn't very positive it would; the locks are lubed once about once a year anyway.

If you lock/unlock the door enough times with the key, you can sometimes get all the doors to lock/unlock and the alarm to set but it is very unpredictable. The problem might be in the controller.

Prius (Gen 3) :: Opening A Door With A Broken Lock Mechanism?

My 2011 Prius apparently had a broken lock actuator on the driver's door, and knowing that the dealer would charge me over $500 for installation of a new actuator, I decided to order a new $5 motor off of ebay, and change the little motor inside the actuator myself. Everything was going fine until I put everything back together, and gave it a try. Now my door won't unlock at all. All of the other doors work fine. I've tried the little key from the keyfob, and turning it kinda feels mushy. My guess is that something is wrong with my re-installation of the cables.

Prius (2004-09) :: Rear Driver Side Door Lock Actuator Broken

I have a 2007 Prius and recently both my driver side front door and driver side rear door lock actuator failed. I browsed and found part number to replace the driver side front door lock assembly. I wasn't very confident in my ability to replace the assembly, but I decided to give it a shot, so I ordered the part. The part arrived today and my wife and I just finished successfully replacing the assembly. It was a little challenging, but now that we know how to do it we could probably do it again in half the time.

Passat (B5) :: 1999 - Trunk Won't Lock / Close - Windows Keep Rolling Down?

I have a 99 B5 stock with 114,000 on it. On Saturday my wife and I went out for a ride, she had to get something form the trunk so I unlock the doors and she gets out when she gets back in the car I notice the trunk lid light is on and i tell her to close it she said she did so I get out and close it. I noticed when i went to close it the latch wouldn't engage. I turn the car off and try to use my key to lock the trunk, I noticed the alarm doesn't engage when I try to lock it. I then try to start up the car and it wont start.

I pop the hood everything looks good I try it again no luck after about twenty minutes of testing, I decide to disconnect the battery. The car starts right up but while im driving i notice the trunk lid light comes back on and my doors keep trying to lock, then my windows go down for no reason...What is going on, I have heard that some passats have a real bad electrical problem with time but what causes it and is this something Im going to have to bring to the stealership to get fixed.

Passat (B7) :: Wind Hissing Noise From Rear Door Windows

I am almost 100% I have found the source of the rear wind intrusion that some of us are hearing. From day one, I have had a wind hissing noise from the rear door windows. After taking it to the dealer and them saying it was "normal", I have been on a mission to find the source of the noise. Well it is coming from a location that I never thought it would come from.

After trial and error, I found it is coming in around that shinny black triangle part in the rear door. There is a gap between the rubber and that plastic shinny triangle part. I used shinny black pinstripe that I got from an auto parts store to cover the gap. I test drove several times at speeds above 65mph and did not hear the noise. Unless you were looking close, you'd never know the pinstripe was there.

Passat (B5) :: Where Is The Door Lock Pump Located

I searched the archives a bit but didn't come up with much. This is also called a "convenience module", on B5 Audis at least. Basically I'm searching around for one to use as parts and fix an A4 one (can't find any right now). There are some people parting B5 Passats but they were asking me where it's located and I'm not sure if it's in the same spot as it is on the Audis (next to right side frame rail in the trunk).

Passat (B6) :: Rear Door Lock Not Working

A few weeks back, I removed a small rubber grommet from the rear door which had embossed image of a lock, to reveal a yellow round slotted switch. This is not the child lock switch on the inside of the rear door, but is on the side of the rear door. I then noticed that sometimes my rear door was able to open after locking with the FOB, hence setting off the alarm. If I turned the yellow switch to be horizontal, the door would lock with FOB.

Over time, the yellow switch would go vertical and not work with the FOB again, until I manually turned the yellow switch to horizontal. I replaced the rubber grommet, which decreased the frequency of this happening, BUT, it still happens. Obviously I have messed with something that was working just fine, and now is not. What this yellow switch is for, and is there a way to permanently resolve my problem?

Passat (B7) :: Driver Side Door Won't Lock?

On occasion my drivers side door will not unlock, I have a SEL with the key less sensors so as I try to get in the car it unlocks all the rest of the doors but not the drivers, I have to go to the other side and physically use the inside latch and then that door unlocks. I notice this when I run the remote start cycle twice more than anything.

Passat (B7) :: 2013 - Driver Side Door Won't Lock

I've had my 2013 for about 1.5 years and I've had the cold lock issue repeatedly as I'm sure anyone in a cold climate has had (once where every single door was frozen and I couldn't even use the damn thing until it got warmer). Now the drivers door won't lock. It shuts and the latch engages, but it won't lock. The alarm enables when I click to lock (not really, but the led flashes red), but you can just pull open the drivers door. The alarm doesn't sound. It's been above freezing for at least the last week here...

Passat (B5) :: Driver Door Lock Replacement Mechanisms?

What tips or gotchas do I need to watch out for when replacing the driver door lock mechanism with a used one from the junkyard (assume working well)?

Is it difficult to sync the unit with the remote or is it as easy as inserting the key in the lock and turning it both directions like I've read?
What's up with those stupid plastic compression pins that hold the lock mechanism to the inner door skin? Those things are terrible! I tried using some small 10mm bolts instead but it totally screwed up the alignment of the door handle

Are those little plastic things one time use, like I'm thinking? Why can't my local dealer get me replacement ones?

Passat (B5) :: Auto Lock Not Working On Driver Door?

The lock post (or whatever you call it) on the driver door stays up when all the other lock posts go down, either when the car is moving, or you lock with the remote. I first noticed this when it was wet outside a couple months back - then it became intermittent, now it's always. How to fix it?
