The following day, the wagon didn't start in the shopping mall. Key in ignition, dash lights ignition on everything normal, push in to start, no response.
The battery's not the problem. The car was towed to a dealer by a very tired tow truck driver, it was unusually hot yesterday. Hottest August day we've ever had in history.
Got a bit of an issue with the cabin lights in the rear. I am able to manually turn on the lights by pushing the individual light buttons, however if I push either the 'door open' or 'rear light' buttons there is no response.
View 3 RepliesSanta Fe 2013. I bought it a few months ago and soon after a strange issue appeared from time to time. When I push the start/stop button it spins the engine but it wont start no matter how much I wait. Usually it start fine for the second time. This happens sometimes and sometimes not. About 2 months ago it didn't want to start for about 5-10 minutes no matter what I tried (push the button with the tip of the key), so I decided to go to a service station.
There they connected the car to a computer to check if there were any error codes logged. But they haven't find anything, after the second time I visited the station they replaced the battery in the key, told that maybe that was the problem.
I really don't know much about cars but it was a strange idea as I would expect the same behaviour when the battery is low than when the key is not present: Car not doing anything but displaying a message that the key is not present.
Anyway, it kinda worked, or I was lucky. For more than a month everything was fine, not a single issue. And today morning it started again. I brought my car to a hand washing, and after they cleaned the outside with steam they wanted to park the car inside the building to clean the interior, and the same issue occurred. And after that it happened with me as well several times this day.
Today I tried starting my car (shortly after I drove it with no problems 2 hours earlier), and when I pushed the start button (holding it down firmly), it made this weird clattering-clicking noise (the dials on the cluster went haywire), but no noises were coming out of the engine, so there was not attempt to even turn the engine (wasn't the grinding noise from engine that you get if you don't hold down the start button firmly long enough). Thought it was the battery so tried to jump the car, but it wouldn't start immediately either. The AC/radio were all on while I was attempting to start the car - shouldn't be the case if the battery was dead???.
After about the 3rd attempt to start the car in the middle of the jump start, the engine started.
Anyways, got home, and then tried starting the car again and no luck. Does this sound like an issue with the battery (lights and AC and radio were all working fine), or perhaps the starter/push button? Has there been any recalls/TSB on anything related for the MKIV R?
I want to get rid the delayed throttle response on my 01 B5.5 passat V6. I've heard of this "Sprint Booster" product, which seems like it works, although it kills your throttle modulation abilities. I was looking into the Unitronic chip, its supposedly gives 16HP .
View 21 RepliesFeel that VW has tuned down the throttle response of 2.5 I5. Well after having the car 2 weeks now, I don't hate the engine as much, and I don't think the issue I am having is with the engine it-self. In sport mode and tip mode it is much better, Once the car decides to give me what I want, it has plenty power. But in auto mode, It has to do with starting off from first gear at a stop. I really believe it has to be a software problem the way the throttle is mapped in the DBW. The problem is there is little throttle response off the line. Like I push the accelerator down halfway quickly, and the engine throttle opens maybe 1/8 and slowly goes to 1/2 like 5 seconds later. It's more of a drive-ability problem. It's like no other car i have ever driven. If I give half throttle, I expect the car to open to half throttle immediately, and not delay it. I really hope VW comes up with a fix for this, I'm sure it is just a programing problem. So am I the only one?
View 3 RepliesWhen the engine is cold, and up to about half way to 190 degrees on the temp gauge, the throttle seems to not want to open very far. Almost like there is a disconnect between your foot and the throttle. You get a little acceleration but no where as much as when the engine has warmed up. I have noticed this when the outside air temp is below 25 f or so. Is this some goofy emissions or "save the motor until its warm" thing?
View 12 RepliesI just washed my engine with degreaser and made the engine look like new and I went to start my car and it sounds like there's water in the engine it giggles and when you press the pedal you get little response I tried to drive and had to rip on the rpm to get it to move what could this possibly be?
View 4 RepliesJust got the car back from the dealer a couple weeks ago after the engine was vibrating. Replaced one of the valves and it worked great. Now a few days ago I was driving home and the AC just flat out died. I know the 06's have a problem with the AC, but I think this is something different because the fan doesn't come on at all (with the AC on or off) either. When I turn the AC on, there is absolutely no response. RPMs don't go up as they would when the AC unit comes on, the fan doesn't come on... nothing. All that happens is the yellow light on the AC button turns on. The compass on my rear view mirror doesn't come on either. The turbo doesn't seem to kick in at all. If it kicking, it's very very weak. This all happened at the same time as the AC failure.
I checked the fuses, and everything seems to be okay. The console, for the first time ever, is saying I need to take the car in for maintenance in so many miles and in so many days. I've never gotten this message before. The car is 100% driveable though, other than the lack of power due to the turbo not coming on and not having AC in these hot 100+ degree days...
I own a 2004 Passat- 1.8. I want to make my steering and throttle more responsive. The throttle is very slow responding, and the steering is very sloppy. I know this is supposed to be VW's Luxury car, but this would greatly enhance the performance and driveability of this car. How do I do this?

View 6 RepliesI have a 1991 celica that I can not get to start. The car has the 3sfe 2.0 in it that I think came out of an 89 celica. We have put a new starter on this car, alternator, plugs, wires and distributor cap, battery and more onto this car. The car however will push start. When you turn the key everything comes on and it clicks. Nothing else happens.

View 1 RepliesI have a 2006 Odyssey, 120,000 miles that has really been trouble free. Last year, while on vacation, the alternator went out, and it was replaced. Since that time, maybe a coincidence, I have had episodes where when I turn the key to start up, there is no response. The dash lights come on, but the engine does not even act like it wants to start. I turn the key a few more times, then the engine starts without a hesitation. This went on a few times before I took it in to the dealer. Of course, it did not have a problem starting there, so they checked the battery, and the battery cables. For the past year this has gone on very sporadically. It may go a month between episodes, or it may happen 3-4 times in a week, or even a day. Every time though, it will eventually start. Over the past year we have eventually replaced the battery, and one time we thought the problem was solved when the starter went out. However, the problem continues.

View 15 RepliesI am curious to see what you think. I had my car chipped by upsolute. For as long as I have had it and even when I took the chipping off, restoring my car to stock, i was getting pressure spikes, lousy throttle response and lousy gas mileage. For a while, I was going to the dealer every other week or so, trying to find out why my car was kicking into limp mode. Upsolute said it was the car and the dealership said it was the chipping.
Anyway last saturday I was inspecting my air filter and airbox (nice little pile of sand and a couple of leaves in there-I am sure that didn't work my mileage any). I moved the airbox a little and the hose which connects to the airbox underneath the air intake ductwork, fell off the airbox on its own. It was never clamped in place. I am told that is the hose that goes directly to the MAF Sensor.
My question, if all else is tight, do you think I have found the source of my over pressure and lousy gas mileage problems? The car certainly feels like it. I went and tightened up every hose connection I could find. My car feels like it has a new motor with a healthy growl to boot. Mileage appears to be up as well. What do you think? I thought about restoring my chipping but I wont do that.
One is that I have a very good extended warranty still in effect and don't want to risk losing it. They would love to hear the car is chipped. Then its good by policy. The other reason is that the guy who chipped it said he would put it back in but would not remove it if I am wrong. The dealership said they could not and would not restore my car to stock even though I cannot believe they don't have the tools around to do so.
I have a 2010 prius and I have to hold the key next to the push to start button. I took it to the dealer and they told me they had to change a smart key module and 2 new keys. I told them to do it. I picked it up and worked great, 2 days later the same thing happened.

View 3 RepliesAlright, so this post may be entirely useless as I'm not really sure if there's a magic solution to my problem. I use the little compartments on the dash above the radio that push and slide out to hold loose change and I guess I may have overfilled one, because now it will not open at all. It doesn't push in anymore and I've tried sticking something through the tops and sides in order to try and force it to slide out, but no luck so far. I'd rather have it stuck and full of change than break anything. Is that any roundabout way to access it and push it out?
