Always used the button to close it, and nothing particularly different happened last time my wife shut it... now it just makes a groan for a second or two, the TOP of the hatch pops out about a quarter inch (bottom doesn't move at all), and nothing else happens.
View 11 RepliesEvery once in awhile - very intermittently - when I press the close hatch button on the tailgate of my 08 Passat Wagon V6 4mo, it starts down and stops. I have to make myself watch it because more than once I have gotten in and started off. I only notice when I look in the rearview mirror and notice the unobstructed view. It seems to happen most often the first time I use it in a day but that is not consistent.
View 4 RepliesI just picked my 2008 Prius up from the dealer after having 4 new tires put on, after a blowout. When I went to open the hatch to make sure my spare and tools were all put back, the hatch would not open. It's a keyless model and the doors all unlock when I put my hand underneath the handle and I can lock them with the black button but the hatch will not open. I manually opened the hatch, thinking maybe the technician got something stuck in the latch when he closed it but did not find anything to be there. Does it sound like the handle itself is bad or maybe an actuator? In my searches, I've found many cases where people have replaced the handle due to it "melting," but nothing similar to what I'm experiencing.
View 19 RepliesHow can I manually open the rear hatch in my 2004 passat w8 wagon? When I got the car it would not open with the remote, but it would unlock with the key. Wife went to the store and the hatch wouldn't unlock. Key just turns. Feels like it is not quite catching to open up the lock.
This has now caused the doors to not lock and windows to not roll down, and no interior lights. Keeps blowing fuse 14. So how do I get I the lock mechanism on the hatch to get it open? Bentley is on the way, but can't be here soon enough.
Just got a 2010 LX570 and the rear hatch doesn't open with key remote or close when button is pressed, just beeps twice.

View 6 RepliesAs the title states, I need to know where that damn switch/sensor that tells the car that the rear hatch is open. Since I got the car, the hatch has been wonky at best when trying to close that hatch via the button. I figured it was going to need a new switch, however I just noticed something today.
I opened the hatch and the rear dome light came on. Pressed the button and it closed no problem. I opened it again a few minutes later and the light never came on. Tried to close it with the button again and it didn't work. And then it all made sense. The sensor that tells the car that the hatch is open is either gummed up or just needs replacing. So where exactly is this thing?
I've been looking at the wagon for about a month now, but I am not too sure it has enough space in the rear to accomodate 2 convertible kid seats and a baby seat in the middle.
The Phaeton probably has a ton more space in the rear for that setup, but haven't really test driven one yet, but I am sure its a dream. The good thing is that the Phaeton is certified too and about a couple grand cheaper, even though it is used.
Our 2.0T (2008 Passat Komfort Wagon) with 70K miles is sitting in a mall parking lot and won't turn over. The lights and accessories all function just fine, and don't change/benefit from a battery jump. DRLs and all dash indicators light up like normal.
We push in the key fob and absolutely nothing happens. No error messages or anything. I tried a half dozen times; no change. Two things to know:
1) The car is under a recall for defective Electronic Steering Column Lock. I understand this can invoke the immobilizer? Car does seem immobilized. (I hadn't gotten the car in for the recall.)
2) The car recently ran rough and threw an Emissions system code. I hadn't gotten that code read, yet, but the roughness sorted itself out. I think this is unrelated and may be a case of "car wash syndrome" as my wife and son occasionally run the car for a minute or less to move it from the driveway to the street.
My new 2008 2.0T Passat wagon, Lux version has a 20" L x 5" W x 1.5" D space on the inside of the rear hatch behind the license plate with two knobs that you turn to open it. The covering door is hinged and it looks like it might be a space to put something because there are four plastic clips that might be there to retain something. Cannot find any reference to it in the owners manual.

View 19 RepliesActually its inconsistent. Many times with the car running and in park, I jump out to access the rear hatch. Sometimes it will open and sometimes it will not. When it doesn't open, I have to turn off the car and then the hatch opens.
View 5 RepliesMy hatch has been unlocking just fine (you hear the click and it pops out just a little bit) but when you flip the emblem to open it won't always open. This is of course intermittent so I can't get it to happen at the dealer. It feels unlocked but when you pull on it something still is staying latched and I have to unlock it again with the remote to release.

View 2 RepliesWell I have had my T-Reg for 24 hours and only have one issue. The rear window on the hatch will not open. We read the manual multiple times and it states you just unlock the hatch and than hold the button underneath the wiper and it should open. No luck. Looks like it could be some electrical thing.
View 1 RepliesDisconnected battery and all the switches in the dash, including on/off in glove box. So that's what caused the problem. Now to fix it. I re-connected battery and all switches, bit hatch won't open with key switch or any switches in car (at door or in front dash). I did manual open and close without any result., the button in glove box is pushed in.
View 3 RepliesWith the doors unlocked, I can hear the lock mechanism moving when I press the door release button. The hatch stays shut.
The hatch also doesn't open from the inside, using that recessed slider thingy.
So the electrics seems OK, but the mechanical part of it isn't working properly. It was working perfectly the day before.
I have a 2007 Santa Fe and the rear hatch wont open. When I pull on the handle it doesn't seam to click or engage with anything. I'm in a remote area and would like to try and fix this myself.
View 1 RepliesThe hatchback on my 2005 prius wont open from the outside. It will open from the inside. It will unlock all of the doors when I lift up on the handle. I've tried looking for the actuator. Where it is located? I have the panel off of the inside of the hatchback. Wires look OK.
