This is the first car I've ever owned with an automatic transmission. When the car is stopped and in gear, I can feel a slight vibration and hear some accompanying noise. Shifting to neutral gets rid of the noise and vibration. Is this normal? Car has 9500 miles.
View 2 Repliesi have a 94 vw passat vr6 that wont shift. when you start off in drive it takes a second for it to start to move. if you shift it manually from first on up it shifts okay but sometimes it slips in between 2nd and 3rd. the only time the car will shift is after driving it a few miles at about 65-70 it will shift itself into second gear and not come out you have to shut the car off and wait a few minutes to "reset" itself. after driving it on the highway it kicked itself into second gear, i pulled over and the fan was on and it looked as if there was some fluid on top of the transmission but cant recall if it had been there earlier. i checked the ATF and there was no shortage of fluid. could the fan be on due to the transmission over heating? what could be the cause of it not shifting?
View 2 RepliesI had a small chirp noise in my Van when it shifts into 4th gear. Took it into United transmissions for a total rebuild. First rebuild had the same noise so they did it again and it came back with the same noise.at that point they said they don't know what it is. I can find no one in this state that will rebuild the Tranny.

View 1 RepliesI'll start this off with a few months ago, I went on a trip and along the way noticed that the car wouldn't get into gear. This happened for a few moments, and solved itself.
Fast forward to a few days ago:
So, my Golf MK4 AUTO 1.6L transmission doesn't want to shift into 4th, sometimes.
One and two are good, but sometimes I get quite a lag in between disengaging 2nd and getting 3rd also.
Furthermore, sometimes I get 4th 'semi' engaging, where the engine is revving too much to be fully in gear, but I get power to the wheels and accelerate (slowly).
I did a VAGCOM scan and got the old:
00652 - Gear Monitoring
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
I also had a CEL on my dash, which I cleared with the VAGCOM. This removed the light, but of course the error still persists.
I've been reading around, and some people have said the issue is the TCM, but some people have had similar problems and a TCM replacement has not fixed this.
(Just btw, my TCM model is 01M927733LK).
And some people have had good results with solenoid replacements. So, I was thinking of doing a ATF flush, just because it was recommend on some posts, but won't necessarily fix the problem.
Contacted a garage to do this for me (never flushed automatic tranny before) and mentioned the VAGCOM codes, and he said this is a slip code.
So, now I'm not really sure what to do to fix it. Are the solenoids interchangeable? Am I able to switch two gears' solenoids to see if it moves the issue to another gear, proving its the solenoid?
My Mk4 GTI has a problem with the transmission searching up and down for a gear, second to third then back down to second and so on. My local dealer wants to put in a temp sensor because that's what the code says but to do so costs almost as much as dropping the transmission. He won't guarantee that will fix the issue so I am inclined to just buy a used automatic and spend the money on a complete replacement. It will probably cost me a few hundred more but seems like a better long term solution. Of course that depends on the used transmission.

Just took her in on Friday to have valve cover and oil pan leaks fixed, and within an hour of picking it up today the automatic transmission won't get out of 1st gear… rpms rising and can't exceed about 29 mph. Straight 6 engine. Any chance the mechanic messed something up, like a throttle cable or something, or is this just terrible karma?

I drove it home this way, but after sitting for 90 minutes, now it works fine. I've heard about the input and output sensors. What should I replace? I went to HMA service to get info on both sensors, but it wasn't detailed enough.

Recently she has had some problems with it and has asked me what is going on, My dad has an Audi Allroad, my mom has a 01 A4 event and I have a 04 GLI so we know some stuff about the cars but these problems are eluding me and I was going to look for some counseling. First, her front tires are making this horrible sound, she says it sounds like a Mack truck and it gets worse as you go faster. I'm thinking its the tires but why would it be like that only after 8k? The second problem is her transmission, she has had the transmission fail to engage into gear 3 times, where it takes about 2-10 seconds before it engages. Now the car has about 10k on it. [URL]....
View 11 RepliesJust picked up a 2002 golf 2.0 auto for $200. Get the car home start it up and it runs great but... transmission shifts all kinds of funky. Starts in first then shifts to third. If I give it some gas it shifts down to second but has nothing there, just revs. Will not go into 4th at all. Throw my little mac scanner on it some codes come up. Only one that mattered was p0277 if I remember. Do a little search and it comes up as the g68 under the tranny mount. Change that out and had not cel. Still shifting the same but no code at all. Throw my scanner on just to see and get p0730 incorrect gear ratio.

Then upon driving it the automatic transmission was all wacky, not engaging at idle, then it abruptly chunking into gear...
So I check the transmission fluid level and it's not on the stick. Research here let me know SP-III is what I'd need. Then while surfing a youtube vid regarding this model's transmission it hit me in the face, I'd drained the automatic transmission fluid! Went to the Kia dealer got 3 quarts dumped it in there, drained the overfilled 5.5 quarts of old and new oil rectifying my mistake, which brings me to the reason for this post.
This 2007 car only has 24,300 miles on it and I mistook the automatic transmission fluid for outrageously dirty engine oil! I swear this stuff looks like it's fulla carbon black n burnt up. My question: is it normal for the trans-fluid to have such a degraded appearance in only 25,000 miles?
Why does the automatic transmission stay in 3rd gear and not shift into overdrive until it gets warmed up? It is so annoying. This is the only car that has ever done this. Even the camry I don't think does this. Especially the fact that the rpms stay above 1k rpm until the engine is warmed up.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2000 Passat Wagon with a V6 and automatic.
When in "D", the transmission refuses to upshift sometimes. Moving to the tiptronic gate and manually upshifting works, so I think it's a control issue and not something mechanical with the transmission.
It also downshifts inappropriately on occasion. For example, when lifting off the throttle and coasting down just to lose a little speed, it downshifts and I get engine braking. I'm not looking forward to this in the snow. Once again, I can manually upshift just fine when this happens.
I recently acquired a 99 1.8 t passat and i am having trouble with the transmission. when I start the car all of the gears are lit up on the console, like it is unsure what gear it is in. It does shift and go in reverse and drive. When the shifter is put in the tiptronic position, it does not respond and acts like it's still in drive, and shifts on its own. Gears seem to shift at the correct speed/rpm but once cruising speed is attained, it won't shift into OD. Also, it has an extreme lurch when I get below 10 MPH. Is my tranny shot, or is it just a sensor that has to be replaced? I am almost positive that it is my tcu.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 Accent with a auto-transmission. The engine is a 1.6 and the car has about 100,000 miles on it. I had it since about 5 years with about 48,000 miles.
While driving cross country a couple years the car developed a whining noise at about 25 mph. As speed is increased, the whining became louder. I have driven it like this ever since, moderately, never pushing it. Starting a couple months ago, the noise has become louder at 40 to 45 mph and there is considerable vibration.
I know the tranny in this car is known for many different problems. I'm just wonder what the thoughts are of others more familiar with this transmission as to what could be the issues ( a certain bearing going bad between gears?, maybe not a tranny issues ...just random ideas on my part ).
BTW, I have never had an error code develop for this transmission.
I have a 2008 petrol Santa Fe with an automatic transmission. Recently the transmission started to intermittently make a noise like a buzz. The noise most commonly occurs when first moving off in D or R and always stops when the transmission is put in Park.
View 8 RepliesI got a 2006 3.3l v6 sonata and for the past 6 month I have no had reverse which sucks let me tell you but I've looked into my codes it's throwing out. Anyway when I throw it in reverse it doesn't lock on it just spins making a kind of whining sound,
And when I'm driving it I take my foot off the gas or I slowly push the break it will jump down to third gear and get stuck I'll be doing 40mph at 4K RPMs, what this could be or what I should do?
