Drove to work today with the sunroof open doing 75 mph. With it open all the way, there was a loud sound similar to a vehicle without a muffler or a loud revving engine. When I closed it to about 2/3's open, it stopped.
View 8 RepliesMy 2007 Camry has developed a loud popping noise when sliding the sunroof open. It's as though the sunroof is getting caught under the vehicle roof before it moves to slide open. The motor labors pushing the sunroof past vehicle roof. I see no obvious obstruction. The sunroof makes no noise when going to the tilt position. I have tried the initialize process, but the problem persists.

View 5 RepliesI can't believe I did it, but I did. It was supposed to be a dry day here, and I left the sunroof tilted to allow for heat escape!
Well, massive downpour lasted more than an hour! and natch, prayers to the contrary, lots of water got in (not as bad as if it had been totally opened!)
So, the headliner is somewhat damaged. With the tilt, it seems like the water seeped in, possibly more than if it had been opened -- but I won't test that theory.
I figure the seats et al will dry out, but is there anything I can do to set the headliner as it dries? Or will I have to get it replaced?
So my sunroof is stuck open and the shade is all the way forward. When I try to close it the glass touches the shade and then goes back to the open position..

View 5 RepliesIt's been pretty nice out lately and I have been using the sunroof regularly. Most of my driving is around town and not at high speeds and I haven't had any issues. Yesterday, I decided to stretch the legs of the car and take it out on the highway.
Everything was going fine until I heard a loud vibration coming from above my head. I looked up and saw the back edge of the sunroof opening (sunroof is open) vibrating up and down pretty violently. I quickly slowed down and it stopped after about 30-45 seconds. Then on the way home on the highway the car did the same thing 3 more times.
It's the headliner along the back of the sunroof opening that's vibrating up and down. I had the roof open to the normal position, not all the way back, just to the last mark on the turn nob. This all happened at about 75-80 mph, nothing crazy for the highway.
I'm experiencing noise when sunroof is open. This is happening at lower speeds and at last couple of sunroof positions. I guess it's vibrations or some weird effect. (Golf MKVI 2.5)

View 8 RepliesNow and then when I open the sunroof it sticks and wont open... then I close it and try again and it opens but it makes a pop noise as if something sticking.... happens now and then. I am thinking some grease or oil somewhere is needed?
View 2 RepliesBought my 2004 Lexi RX330 in June 2014 with 96k (now has 105k - I drive a lot). It is beautiful and I love it! However, I am NOT in love with the sunroof that is currently stuck open. It's been making a weird noise upon opening (think bag of chips crackly) for the past few weeks. Yesterday was gorgeous weather in TX, so it was open most of the day. Come time to put her to bed, the sunroof would not close. Making a horrible grindy/clicky noise and closes about 4 inches then stops... then it starts to open again. Weird! There's nothing I can see in the tracks that is stopping it. The passenger side looks like it would close, but the drivers side looks like it is stuck. Tried to take the sunroof motor out, but there is a metal bracket in the way. Besides the fact, what to do with the motor once I had it out...
View 1 RepliesI have a 2006 Saturn Vue and if drive with the sunroof open and the driver side window open I get periodic thumps or knocks from below the front seats or the dashboard (not really sure where it is coming from).
If I open additional windows or close the driver side window it goes away. I am sure it is an air flow issue.
Having issues with sunroof. Purchased my 2011 gti last month 3300 miles later sunroof broke like a corrado .....making loud gear grinding noises ....whole assembly wants to bust out of the headliner !
View 5 RepliesI purchased a new Outback Limited (2.5) in April of this year. I've got a service appointment coming up next week for an oil change anyway, and I noticed that the road noise from the sunroof is very loud.
I own an `09 Legacy Limited which also has a sunroof and it's not even close in terms of loudness.
When I called to make my service appointment, I was told that this is really "normal" for the sunroof, and I obviously don't think so.
My Outback has a sunroof air deflector which might be causing the problem - none of my other cars have had this option and it came with it when I purchased it. I'm considering removing it, but I want to be sure this is the cause rather than a problem with the sunroof itself.
Has driven an `11 Outback with a sunroof (with or without an air deflector), and if you have, is it noticably louder than other cars you've driven?
Noticed an abnormal amount of noise when they open their sunroof?
Mine seems noiser than others I have had and adjusting does not seem to work.
Would the wind deflector work?
I recently found out when I open the door to my mk4 jetta it starts to make this loud ticking noise. It happen when I open only three doors the two front and the rear passenger. I have no clue what it is i even asked my mechanic who has been working on volkswagens for years and he said hes never heard anything like it.
View 1 RepliesI just bought a 2007 Camry XLE V6 with push button start. When I push the button:
1. the gauges light up
2. I hear a loud motor (gear) noise
3. noise stops and the engine starts up like normal. No unusual sounds.
4. I push the button to stop the car and the still no noise -- engine shuts off as expected.
5. NOW, when I open the door, I hear the same motor (gear) noise I heard in #2....the engine is off at this time..
Just picked up a 2001 GLX wagon and it is something my 93 did -- when opening the sunroof all the way, it makes a "popping" noise. With my last car, it was from something that snapped rendering it useless.
View 2 RepliesI was driving to work this morning and went to open my sunroof and as I always do I hit the button and it opens to a point, then I hold the button down and it opens another inch or so. I realized I always do that, open it that little extra.
My curiosity is why doesn't it just open all the way? What's the point of that little extra bit? I am sure it has something to do with air flow.
