I have a coolant leak coming from the area under the oil filter housing where the cooler is. My thought is the little plastic pipe between the cooler and the engine block. I have the alternator removed but am wondering what's next. Can I get to the cooler without dropping the engine?
View 24 RepliesI have a 1.8t and my coolant is leaking pretty fast. From what I can see it is coming from the oil filter area. I hope it is just an oil cooler O ring. What else it could be?
View 5 RepliesMy son was driving his 2001 jetty vr6 2.8 he said he heard a pop and then coolant was pouring out underneath. Radiator and hoses look fine reservoir too.it pours out as fast as you put it in. When underneath it looks like it's coming from an area to the right of the oil filter towards the belt side but not ask the way over by the belts more like the middle of the engine. I can't see anything from above just dripping from below. I am hoping not a head. Oil look good no coolant in it and doesn't smoke.???
View 7 RepliesI was checking the engine today and I think I found a coolant leak close to the Oil Filter reservoir, the fluid is PINK color and that matches the coolant type of fluid, check the pictures. Looking for the location from where the leak might be coming ? Do the Thermostat or Water Pump are closer to that location ?, I have the theory that they might be the cause of the coolant leak, they were changed about 4,000 miles ago,

View 6 RepliesI've got a leak that appears to be coming from the secondary fuel filter housing (the one in the engine compartment)... It's not coming from the filter, but from the side, where there are 4 allen bolts that attach a fitting to the side of the housing...Can I change out the gasket for that piece? I've already tightened the bolts, but the leak persists.
View 14 RepliesI replaced my Radiator, Upper and Lower Hoses, Thermostat and the thermostat gasket yesterday. I am leaking coolant from the thermostat though, It's coming from the seal between the housing and the block. The gasket was brand new and seemed to fit fine. I don't see any damage around where the seal is made..
Going to run and get a new gasket when the store opens.
I trying to see if this is something that is a easy fix or mayor work. Leak coming from that metal housing behind alternator. Does this housing came off? or do I need to take out the intake out? .
View 8 RepliesI have a motor oil leak on a 1991 Chevrolet S10 pickup, 2WD, 2.8L, manual transmission.
The leak is around the bell housing area. The oil covers the bell housing and the transmission.
I think it is either the rear main seal or the back of the oil pan gasket. But how can I know for sure? It is difficult to see the back of the oil pan.
Would the oil INSIDE the bell housing be proof positive that it is the rear main seal? I have not looked inside yet.
I have a 95 skylark 4 cylinder, i have what appears to be a coolant leak from the thermostat housing and i also have coolant mixing with my oil. Can the leak from the housing cause the coolant to mix with the oil? If not what else could be the issue?
View 3 RepliesOnly when running heat or defrost, coolant leak looks like it's coming out of the bell housing. I have a supercharger so very difficult to see behind motor, but with inspection camera, heater hose lines look dry. firewall looks dry. No coolant in cab. No steam on windows or smell. Pretty sure not casting/ freeze plugs because absolutely no leaking with heat off. Can run for days with no loss, then turn on heat and within minutes/ seconds coolant puddling in driveway. Is the hose that runs through valley pressurized only when heat is on? I saw a few older threads but as far as I could tell none specified heat on/ heat off conditions. Just started problem after doing some other work, hoses were off radiator and intercooler, replaced radiator. None of those connections are the culprit.

My '96 ranger, 4.0, auto transmission has developed a coolant leak. It is at the rear of the engine, passenger side, at or just above the bell housing. I can't quite see where it is leaking from even using an inspection mirror from on top or underneath. The engine runs great. I just finished replacing the power steering pump, ac compressor, dryer and hoses. What is back there? Freeze plug? Do I fear the worst and that the head or block warped? I may drill a hole from the passenger compartment to try and get a better view.

View 14 RepliesI have a 1990 F-150 w/351 that I knew had a coolant leak at the back of the engine when I bought. It's a tinker around truck, something for me to play with.
I've traced the leak back to a metal tube/pipe that sticks out of the engine compartment just below the AC housing. I cannot find anything in the Haynes manual or a diagram on the intertron that shows what this is and if it should have a hose on it or...?
I'm trying to figure where the coolant leak is. Appears to originate on the driver's side front, right near the thermostat housing. Since the engine tilts back the entire drivers side is wet. The thermostat gasket appears to be OK, but it does have a lot of miles on it.
If it's not the thermostat then can coolant leak from the cross over tube. And is the cross over removable without taking off the intake. There appears to be a bolt coming up from underneath on the passenger side.
Also, does coolant flow through this plastic intake. If it does, then the leak could be some where else, if not, then it's probably the thermostat.
My serp belt started squealing so I pulled the thermostat housing to inspect the rubber gasket. It looked OK, but I cleaned up both surfaces and replaced with a new gasket, and put it back together. The housing was replaced just a couple months ago along with new hoses. It was not corroded and OK to reuse.
Started the truck up and saw a slowish/steady drip of red Cat ELC dripping on the driveway. Opened the hood up again and carefully inspected around the thermostat housing - no coolant is leaking there.
I did notice the same slow/steady drip coming from just behind and beneath the thermostat housing. See in pic, this is where it is dripping. One other question, what is this plug for on the side of the water pump?
I am going to install a coolant filter on my 2004 6.0 E350 van. I have read threads about bypass filters and full flow filters and I started asking myself "Why use a bypass when I can filter all of the coolant?"
Is there any reason why someone should use a bypass filter? I bought the van used knowing I would eventually have to do most if not all of the 6.0 repairs. IPR sells a complete coolant filter.
I talked with the people at FICM repair and they suggested I do my research but leaned towards the IPR cooler. Ed spent a good 30 minutes on the phone answering all my questions and never asked if I wanted to buy anything. If anything, he was trying to stop me from throwing money at the van until I isolated what needs to be repaired.
I already bought the Sinister Kit and requested a return.
So far it was the coldest day this early morning at 5am when i went to work here LA at 55 degrees i don't know if it had something to do with this coolant leak. Iwent home from work at 1:30 pm. 2 miles away from home, i get the STOP Coolant warning on the display check manual .
After parking at home, saw some smoke in front of the car maybe because the engine was hot and the coolant spraying in the engine bay some hitting the Evoms intake and there's a lot of coolant liquid just beside the oil filter underneath the air intake. also saw lots of coolant leaked into the floor surface.
I went inside got some coolant and filled with coolant almost full. after taking a nap,drove the R too see if the coolant warning is gone. not even 50 meters coolant warning lit. drove for 1.5 miles to Century City mall to buy stuff, after parking, i popped the hood then surprised, coolant tank was TOTALLY EMPTY! Engine was hot as well, decided to call tow truck.
I hope it's just a lose coolant hose.
I bought the car with it a bit over 3 months ago, that was the only problem and simply couldn't pass the deal. Even used car dealer didn't know what it was.
You can only hear it when you go over 50-55+ mph and it comes from cabin air filter area.
I already changed cabin air filter, the other day I replaced filter tray as well due to broken clips. Cleaned the whole area real good and still can't get it to stop whining.
I used to have a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0. Loved the truck but sold it because I didn't have a place to store it.
So I bought a 2000 E.B. Explorer! I love it thus far, I was doing a tune-up and now I hate it. I was changing the spark plugs and one of the spark plugs had a lot of rust around it. As I was chipping the rust away so I could get a socket around it coolant started to come out right below the spark plug

I don't know what this could be. I have done my research, anything from the lower intake manifold gasket to a cracked head. Need info about this type of leak? its no where near any gaskets, I have a friend that says I could have hit a coolant chamber but I wasn't banging hard at all.
2014 fx4 6.2. Had a coolant leak. Brought to dealer for warranty work. Found a leak in middle lower tube area. Said they replaced radiator part # BL3Z-8005-D. It sure looks like my old radiator still under the hood complete with squished bugs. Am I missing something?
