Pontiac G6 06 Knock Knock. My car is making a knock knock noise from the right front end. It almost sounds like an extension cord plug in end hitting against the wheel well. (Had that happen before with old car's engine heater, this car doesn't have one of those) The noise stops when i break, and I only notice it is driving under 25 mph. I looked under and couldn't see anything hanging or loose.

View 10 RepliesI replaced my struts and shocks a few weeks ago and i installed lowering springs H&R. Yesterday i started hearing this knocking thumping noise coming from the right front of the car me and my uncle took the wheel off today and looked around and everything was nice and tight we proceed to both push down on the right corner of the car to have it bounce up and down and we heard the same knocking sound coming from the right front area it sounds almost as if the strut blew out in the front right would the symptoms i described concur with the front strut being blown out, and on a side note the struts are only a few weeks old is this even possible since the struts are so new? I do have 20" rims on the car with low profile tires could i have hit a pothole hard enough to cause the strut to blow out? Iam planning on taking a trip to the dealer tomorrow and have them check it out.
View 2 RepliesI am hearing a weird knocking with every rotation of the left front wheel and I know it is not the cv joints. I replaced the wheel bearings on the car a week ago . I think it maybe the brakes have got loose and hitting the rotor or the wheel might be loose but I'm not really sure and it knocks faster with acceleration.
View 7 RepliesI've been hearing a rhythmic, metallic ringy grinding noise coming from the driver side front end of the car that seems to be in time with wheel rotation. It happens between 5 and 40mph, worsens while the steering wheel is turned even the slightest to the right, goes away completely during left turns, reduces and becomes intermittent above 45mph, and between 0 and 5mph, as I turn the wheel to the right from any position, I hear squeaking. I recently had the front control arm, ball joints and struts replaced. It has 140k miles. What could it be?
View 4 RepliesToday I noticed a knocking sound coming from what sounds like the front left (drivers side). When I accelerate and when I brake the sound stops. The sound also stops when I am going around a bend in the road as well as when I change lanes. When I am turning a corner I do not hear the sound.
View 2 RepliesMy 2003 CRV has developed a "popping" or "knocking" noise that seems to come from the front end of the car. It doesn't happen all the time but seems to happen more and more. I've read it could be either a sway bar of CV joint issue? I've taken it to our Honda service center and they have checked it over and can't find anything wrong.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2009 AWD Santa Fe with a little over 43K miles. Over the past few months it's developed a knocking noise that is most audible from the front drivers side area. The knocking speeds up or slows according to the car's speed, and appears somewhat louder when the steering wheel is turned. My initial suspicion from my surfing here is either a CV joint or wheel bearing.
I took it to the dealer that sold it to me and am getting increasingly frustrated with their work. The first irritation was yesterday when the service advisor called to say the problem was corroded rear rotors and brake pads; both wear items not covered under warranty. Though skeptical (since I was hearing the noise coming from up front, not from the back) I authorized the $300+ for turning the rotors, replacing brake pads and flushing the brake system.
When I showed up to retrieve the car I was told it'd been test driven and the problem was fixed. I asked the tech specifically whether he'd checked the CV joints and he assured me he had and they were fine. Upon driving away it was immediately obvious the knock was still there. Back to the dealer. I had the tech drive it with me in the passenger seat. He acknowledged he could now heard the knocking, but claimed he previously couldn't hear it over the horrible loud squealing from my rusted rotors; nor had he heard it on his alleged post-fix test drive. The problem with that is I've never heard this claimed horrible loud squealing, nor has my girlfriend, nor have any other regular passengers.
Back at the dealership the situation escalated when the service advisor, in defense of his tech, also claimed the horrible squealing rotors had drowned out any other noises. The problem with that is he admitted he'd not come along on any of the previous claimed test rides, and claimed to have heard the horrible squealing rotors only while the car was in the shop and/or up on the lift while the tech was turning a rear wheel by hand. Err, if the car was not driven any for distance or speed, of course you wouldn't have heard any knocking up front.
Yesterday evening I got a call from the shop advising the problem had now been diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing, front driver's side. I was assured it'd be fixed and ready this afternoon. All well and good. I showed up this afternoon and the service advisor stated the car was just getting buttoned up and we're going to test drive it. Fine, I'd like to come along on the test drive I said. He agreed, asked me to sit in the waiting room. In a few short minutes though - not long enough IMO - he came back out to advise the tech had just test driven the car (without me?!) and the knock is still there.
As of this writing I have no info from them as to what it might be. I left the car with them and asked the service advisor to have the tech(s) double check the CV joints. He got huffy with me and declared that if if the tech said he'd check them, there's no need to do so again. At this point I'm not sure whether I can trust this dealers' service department. I don't think the service advisor is being honest with me - I think he's been caught in a minor fib re: test riding and is compounding the situation by sticking with it.
I just got a new car three weeks ago and I'm trying to sell my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT myself. Since buying this new car, I haven't driven the Pontiac for 3 weeks. I started it tonight and it started just fine but when I started driving, I heard a clunking noise coming from the front end. I checked the wheels and didn't see anything (though I didn't check too thoroughly). It's definitely the front end. The car has about 158,000 miles on it and before I stopped driving it, it had no issues and did not have this clunking sound. I tried leaving the car running for 5 minutes at a time and then turning it off and then on again thinking it might be that I've just left it sit there but that didn't work.
View 7 RepliesWhat's that noise coming from the front end driver side. About 2 months ago Firestone replaced my 06 Vibe 5 speed manual base brakes, rotors, calipers, brake line & fluid replaced. The car is still making a noise when braking at low speeds. It generally happens after the cars been driven awhile or when warm. It sounds like metal on metal scraping. I can also feel vibration in the steering wheel when braking, is it possible that the hub bearing is going. I had the bearing replaced on the passengers side 2 years ago. Doesn't quite sound like the first bearing replacement. I took it back to shop and they replaced the brakes again when they replaced and flushed the lines. The problem is by the time they get to the car it's cooled down and they don't hear the sound. Should I have the hub wheel bearing replaced or is it something else.
View 3 RepliesI'm getting this clicking noise in the front drivers side of my car... it sounds like its related to the wheel because it's clicking in a rotation pattern, i.e. it slows down as I slow down, etc. The clicking noise dulls/goes away whenever I brake. Not sure if that means it's related to the brakes...or if it's something else.
View 2 RepliesMy car was driving fine earlier today. I have been hearing a knocking that sounds like it's coming from the front drivers side for awhile now. I have an appointment to get that checked out tomorrow. However, today I washed my car. I washed it by hand and didn't was the engine or spray the under carriage. About an hour after I washed it I got out on the road and it started violently shaking at about 45mph. Other than that it seems to be running fine. It's not missing or making any strange noises. Why it would start shaking like this? I also need to know if I should be able to drive 100 miles to the shop where it is under warranty?

View 14 RepliesI have the 2013 Accent with nasty knocking noises from the front. Have the same thing with my 2009. I opened the hood yesterday to fill the washer fluid and noticed I have a gap between the insulator dust cap, body or frame and strut insulator. I can almost poke a pencil through the gap. I am to think this is not normal. I have about 16000 kms on the car.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2008 Pontiac G6 GT. I loved my card until I had to replace the rotors and changed to an all-weather tire. Now, I can feel a vibration in the steering column; a vibration in the seat and floor; there is a noise in the front of the engine when I am going over bumpy or icy roads; and the car pulls to the left when I have been stopped at a light or an intersection. Oh - When re-starting on a slightly icy or gravel-y road, I also get a sound that sounds like gears grinding -- not like the traction control is kicking in.Frustratingly enough -- the car can go from feeling like it is driving "tight" -- like the power steering is out -- to driving "loose" like the steering wheel is ready to fall off the car and vibrates like it never has before. No one notices the vibration but me (which is frustrating because I have driven my car over 30,000 miles, and what seems "normal" to others, is not "normal" to me).
View 13 RepliesJust picked up my BMP R32 last week. The car is MINT, only 25k on her, seriously probably one of the cleanest, stock mkiv r32's left. I got every single service record since brand new, all done by a Volkswagen dealer.
Only problem is, a knocking noise has just started to develop, coming from the front passenger area somewhere. It is only noticeable when I brake or let off the gas after accelerating, but definitely more noticeable when braking. At first I thought it was something rolling around in the door, but now it seems clearly suspension related, or a loose bolt or something?

my P has recently developed a knocking noise coming from the front right when I go over a pothole. My first guess was a worn anti-roll bar drop link, but I've just taken the drop link off and it looks absolutely perfect. (I noticed that they have updated this part since my last 2008 P which had aluminium inserts in the rubber bush and easily distorted - now they have a stainless steel insert.)
It sounds like the "clunk" comes from high up on the front right suspension. I have looked at all the bushes on the arms and they look fine. If this was a "traditional" car I would have guessed that the top suspension mount bearing had failed, but am I right in thinking that the P doesn't have one of these bearing mounts ?
So i had air-ride installed into my R 2 weeks ago and lately, i've noticed a knocking/thud noise coming from the front wheel well almost. I feel it more at low speeds and when applying the brakes to come to a stop.
View 4 RepliesI hear & feel a knocking sound when i brake and come to a stop & when i am accelerating and moving at slower speeds. I had both my front & back brakes replaced in the recent past and the brake oil also changed. I still hear the noise and vibration. This issue get all the more prominent when the roads are wet and its raining.
