Prius (2001-03) :: Getting Turtle After Sitting In Driveway For 3 Days With No Activity

Jun 16, 2013

We have an 02 prius 120k that works fine and dandy for the most part (slightly lower mileage then when new - we get 36-40mpg but I think part of that is the lead foot & AC usage) except now we have got the turtle a few times after it sits unused for a few days.

After driving it around for awhile the turtle goes away and doesn't come back. But this has happened a few times, the most recent after it sat in the driveway for 3 days with no activity. When we use it daily this doesn't occur.

Does this sound like the big battery is giving up the ghost after 11 years? Or is there something I can do to make it a happier camper (other then the obvious of paying attention to it daily)?

Prius (2001-03) :: Engine Makes Lot Of Noise With Little Turtle Sign On The Left

I have bought this car in 2006 and had a trouble free experience so far. My car had roughly 170000 Km on it. This very first generation Prius from Japan and all the instruction is in Japanese. Engine: 1NZ-FXE

Main Problem: At times when the turtle sign comes, the engines makes a lot of noise. It feels like the engine is overworking. I also hear some air suction kind of sound from the back of the car (I believe it is to do with the main battery). The car will not accelerate. I need to go to the road side and then turn off the car. Wait for a little while (may be 5 minutes). Turn the engine on and then drive again.

Other problem:

1. Red Triangle is always on (see the pic)
2. Dash Board screen is always and now completely white so I cannot see any error message (see the pic)

Ford Excursion :: 2001 - Reverse Slow To Engage After Sitting For 8 Days

Monday I started my truck after leaving it in the garage while on a 8 day vacation. Shifting into reverse led to almost no movement at all. After a few seconds, I shifted back into park and then reverse again and got a solid reverse right away. I may have noticed sluggish shifting into reverse previously, but not this noticeable. What could be the culprit?

Prius (2004-09) :: Sitting Idle For Three Days - Battery Down To Two Bars?

I had my 2005 Prius sitting idle for three days and when I last used the car it had 6 bars of battery (blue). Today I turn it on and it has only 2 bars of battery (purple) and the engine stayed on about 10 minutes to charge the battery. After about 10 minutes it went all the way to 7 bars (green) and the engine did its normal idle stop. Is it normal for the battery to drain that much in only a few days?

Starting - Gmc :: Denali Sat In Driveway For A Few Days On Empty Gas Tank Now Won't Start

I drove my 2000 GMC Yukon Denali with an nearly empty gas tank on accident and then parked in my driveway for a few days. Went to start it up to go fill it but it won't start. It'll turn over and it sounds like it starts but it dies after 1 second. I filled up the tank using those portable gas tanks to the point where the denali's tank is nearly full but it still start. Is this something simple and easy that I can fix myself or do I need to get it towed to the mechanic and if so what is the cost for something like this?

Camry :: 2011 XLE Alarm Go Off While Car Was Sitting In Driveway

I recently purchased my 2011 Camry XLE and have had the car alarm go off while the car was sitting in my driveway. This happened a few times and I thought I would push the plunger door switch in and out a couple of times to see if this would work. It did for a while like 2 weeks and then yesterday the car alarm went off again while it was sitting in my driveway again.

I grabbed my key and hit the door open button which turned off the alarm and locked the doors with the remote key fob. About an hour later the alarm went off again. I stopped the alarm again by hitting the open door button and then went out and pushed the door plunger button in and out again. So far the alarm hasn't gone off again.

When this first happened I took it back to the dealer and they said they tested the alarm system and found nothing wrong with it. Is it safe to assume that it is a bad door button? Is there any record in the car's computer that would tell when the alarm went off and why? Can the door plunger button be adjusted to correct this?

Volvo - XC90 :: 2005 - Alarm Going Off Randomly When Car Sitting In Driveway

I have a 2005 Volvo XC90 with 120K+ miles. About 2-3 months ago, the car alrm started going off randomly, while sitting in my driveway. Generally it would go off around 9-11 pm, but also at any other time. It has gone off 5 times in a row within 5 mins. It has gone off at 3 AM, 4:10 am, 5:15 am, and other totally random times.

It happens anywhere from 2-5 or 6 times from when I get home til I leave in the morning. But here's the thing......it ONLY GOES OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY. Only. I have taken the fuse out, had the remote starter and alarm disconnected, tried leaving it unlocked, tried parking in a neighbors driveway. It still goes off.

The time are so random that no one can figure it out. The weather makes no difference. I literally keep my keys in my hand at all times when I'm home so that when the alarm goes off, I can turn it off as quickly as possible. I keep them on the floor outside when showering and in my hand when I go to bed.

The Volvo dealer says he's seen it 100's of time and he can fix it, but when I told him it only happens in my driveway, he said he had no idea what the problem could be. It's going to a car shop next week to see if they can disable the factory installed alarm but I hear that's nearly impossible.

Toyota - Tacoma :: Battery Dies When Sitting For Several Days

I've had this issue for a while now but is seems to be getting worse the older the truck gets. I've had the battery, and alternator tested multiple times and they always receive passing grades. If the truck sits for a period of several days or more without being started, the battery is sometimes dead when I go to start it up and go somewhere. It is really frustrating because it seems to happen and very random times, when I least expect it.

Sometimes I can go start my truck without any problems at all after a week or so. Sometimes it won't start if I leave it alone for only a day or two. Usually after I jump start the truck it will run fine and start for the next several weeks. Is it possible that there is a short somewhere causing the battery to drain sometimes? Also, there is sometimes a buzzing sound that comes from under the hood when it is warm outside with the engine off and the truck at rest... could they be related?

Volvo :: Battery Drain After Sitting For A Couple Days

1995 Volvo 850 stationwagon has been dying when it sits for 3-5 days. At first I thought that it was due to the cold weather, so I was sure to drive it daily when it was snowing. But as it warmed up, my battery still drained after sitting for a couple days. Every time, I would call AAA and they would get it started no problem. I took it to a mechanic who did a basic "used car check" and didn't find anything with the starter, transmission, etc that would cause a battery drain.

My next step was to replace the battery, which I did a couple months ago. But alas, the battery has died once again. My thought is that it is due to an electrical issue? I have noticed that when driving, the speakers fade in and out based on whether I'm going uphill, or turning right or left . I thought that this was just a quirk but perhaps it's indicative of a greater electrical issue? I'm not sure what my next step should be?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Condensation On Inside Windows When GTI Sitting In Driveway Unused

My Gti has been sitting in my driveway unused for a couple months now. The condensation in it has been unusually heavy when parked. The carpet is dry, doesn't smell damp inside, no coolant smell. Windshield was replaced 2year ago never had a prob with it so idk if it's that that's leaking, but what would the signs of that be? But what I really think it could be is that my recirculating flap is stuck closed. Could that be it?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: After Driving For 20 Minutes And Sitting In Driveway VR6 Start Running Hot

This only happens once or twice a week. After driving the car for 20+ minutes and sitting in the driveway, it will start running hot. I'd say around 230 degrees and it will stay there until I start driving the car again. I made sure the fans work and I also checked the coolant level and both are fine. What could be causing this issue?

Camry :: 2002 - Hard To Start After Sitting In Garage For 2-3 Days

This question is for recommendations on whether to have the dealer service (clean) the Camry's ignitors

In a previous posting, I mentioned that my Camry was hard to start after sitting in the garage for 2-3 days. Dealer "diagnosed" (guessed?) it as a weak battery, tho the cranking speed seemed pretty normal (peppy)to me. My first thought when it would not start was the fuel system (fuel pump) or dirty ignitors.

I asked my regular mechanic for an opinion on cleaning and he pretty much said "don't" unless there isa specific problem (eg engine check lite).

Could I hear from the group whether ignitor cleaning ($210) as a "preventive maintenance" is a good idea? I am not about to disassemble the throttle body or some such and do it myself, but I AM OK with adding acan to my gas tank, if it won't hurt and can work.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Battery Goes Down Sometimes After Sitting For Few Days

My battery on my 2008 SD goes down sometimes after the truck has been setting for a few days. This doesn't happen very often, and I've checked to see if I left something on that could have put a draw on it. I can find nothing that has caused it. I jump it off and might go a month before it happens again. I've got an add-on voltmeter that show voltage when the switch is on, and it's charging perfect. On older trucks, I would simply put a test light between the positive post and the cable and checked for a draw, but on the later model there is always a slight draw to keep memories alive.

Ford Aerostar :: 1995 - Runs And Idles Rough After Sitting 10 Days?

So I have a 95 aerostar 3.0. I use it every day my a delivery vehicle. I keep it maintained. About a month that ago, it developed a skip or a hesitation, most!y at high speeds, usually under load. I thought it may be transmission but had it checked and was ok. I drove it like that for several weeks. Then got worse so I parked it for ten days until my mechanic was available. When I cranked it to drive it over, it spit and sputtered the whole way here and barely made it. It had never done that before. He changed plugs and wires and distributor cap, even though it had been less than a year since all that had been done. Still no change. Driving way worse after sitting for ten days.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Truck Would Not Crank After Sitting For Few Days Without Being Started

I am having problems with my 97 F150 6cyl. A couple of months ago, I noticed the truck after sitting for a few days without being started would not crank. After some trial and error, I found that turning the ignition switch on and off several times did the trick and the truck would crank right up. I was thinking this might be a fuel pump or fuel filter issue but, I'm not sure.

A couple of days ago I was going to drive the truck and did the ignition switch deal as usual and the truck cranked up but, there shortly after while just idling the motor died. I have tried and tried to crank it and it want start back. After thinking on it, I don't know if this is a fuel problem or not, or maybe even the ignition box.

Hyundai - Tucson :: Won't Start After Sitting For 10 Days - Electronic Control Memory Wiped

Hyundai Tucson 2005 sat outside for 10 days in summer heat and two days of thunder and lighting. I am original owner and this car has always started and runs great. After sitting for 10 days, it would not start. The motor turned well by the starter but no ignition. Towed to my mechanic and explanation was the electronic control memory was wiped clean. It took two hours of reprogramming and $170.00 to get it working. There was no need to replace any electrical components and at present the car is running fine. My question is what caused this? How could an on-board computer memory spontaneously be erased, and will this trouble reappear down the road?
