My wife left her newer 2013 Prius "on" at work....by this I take to mean she did not hit the on/off button when leaving the car. to turn off the car I asked if it started ok, and she reported yes; however on return from the gym about 3 miles away, she says she noticed the Hybrid Battery bars going down very quickly now and the gas-engine on almost the whole time.
View 12 RepliesToday I went in may garage and heard a humming from the rear of my 2014 prius. I assume it is the hybrid battery. This was several hours after the car had been driven. I turned the car on and then off and the humming stopped. Is this normal? I know it is common for it to hum immediately after you turn the car off for a bit, but several hrs later?

View 14 RepliesI'm a new Prius owner and don't know if this is normal. Sometimes after being parked for a while and restarted, the icon shows the battery is down to 2 bars. It charges back up after a mile or so of driving. Also if I sit and idle for a while, the battery will drop down, and once going thru a car wash (car in Neutral), a message came on the screen that the Tractor Battery was in trouble (I don't remember the exact words). When I put the car in gear and drove off, the message disappeared and the battery charged up. What's the deal?

View 3 RepliesHad a Gen 2 years ago, first time with a Gen 3. Specs: 2011 Prius Two, not II, CPO'd with 83k miles. I've been experiencing this phenomenon for the past couple of days. I would park the car with 6 or 7 bars, but after 8-10 hours of parking it would power up with only 2 bars, or it would power up with 4-5 bars and quickly go down to 2 cars before it charges back up to 6-7 bars. I called the dealer and the SA tells me it's normal. I know for a fact my Gen 2 didn't and my TCH didn't. So is this something I should be concerned about or is this normal for the Gen 3?
View 3 RepliesI just bought 05 prius from a dealer I don't know the history was told all it needed was a hybrid battery.
Now I have a 05 that I drive with known good parts so I pulled my hybrid battery and installed it in the new car the monitor showed engine charging inverter then going to the battery. However the bars on the battery graph start dropping. only code is a engine code 2102.
I also noticed the old A/C condenser in the back.
I've had my 2015 Prius Two for almost 6 weeks now, and so far am loving it. However, I noticed something strange today. I'm pretty sure that when I parked at work this morning, the hybrid battery was nearly full (two bars shy of full, I think). When I came back to leave work (~6 hours later) and started the car, the hybrid battery was down to only two bars (as in two bars above empty mark).

Another Question - The right/left indicator sound is very muted..is that normal? Like, if I have the indicator on to merge into traffic, I am not sure it is as I can barely hear it chirping..
I recently was stuck in a traffic jam in the middle of the Mojave desert. Outside temp was about 102 and we crept along for maybe 15 minutes going no more than 5-10 mph. I had the air conditioning on. I noticed the power bars were rapidly disappearing and got worried that I would lose the battery if I didn't get moving. Needless to say, I finally was able to speed up and the bars came back. (dropped to 2 bars).

View 4 RepliesI just bought a 2010 prius (26k miles..prior collision.. so no warranty) for my wife. The battery drains in just 3 days if left unused. I had Toyota install a new battery. Again 3 days left parked and battery was dead.
I locked myself in and measured the consumption. It drains at the rate of 1.1Amps when parked. That looks very high consumption. I want to measure with SKS turned off, but that's going to be tricky. I believe SKS resets when battery is reconnected.
I just bought a 2009 Prius from a dealer and the last 2 weeks I have noticed the hybrid batteries reads in the blue 3-4 bars down most of the time even after driving for awhile it goes up to the 2nd bar down (green) then when I drive for a couple of minutes it goes right back down. I also notice that I am NEVER using just hybrid motor power .The gas engine is constantly showing and the only time the power returns to the battery is when I take my foot off the gas completely or hitting the brakes.
When I am at a stop if I don't hold the brake down hard the hybrid motor shows running until I press further down on the brake pedal. I can't seem to get the car to a glide so I can less power to maintain speed and it seems like the CVT is in B mode. Also at higher speeds trying to pass it feels like the cvt is slipping.
I try to use a feather touch on the gas but can't see to find a point where the car will not use gas power constantly. I drove my boss's 07 and his gets like 4-5 mpgs better than my 09. His car has 130k and mine only has 95. His car can run and glide on hybrid motor and the gas engine is not constantly powering the vehicle like mine does. I get only 38-39 mpgs he gets like 44. We both drive about the same time on the road.
It seems like the fan that cools the hybrid battery pack turns on quite often, almost everyday after two or three hours of driving. I heard it once or twice on my '05, but on this one I hear it pretty much everyday.
View 19 RepliesSo this has happened to me a few times now in the cold temps. For my job I'm left to sit and idle every now and then after over an hour of driving.
I'll park my car, ICE will turn off, ICE temp at 195. Sit with heat on at 65 degrees. After about 10 minutes the engine temp will drop to about 110, which the ICE will start and warm up to about 135 and turn off. Hybrid battery stays above 55% and normally hits about 65% on every ICE start. (I have extra instrumentation installed to monitor)
I've noticed that after sitting over night my battery for the hybrid system is not charged enough to operate the car in EV or for the first mile or two it does not seem to use as much electric power to supplement the car. After a couple miles it is charged or near charged and I see more use.
View 5 RepliesHow I can charge my hybrid battery while driving on city streets with an average speed of 35-45MPH. Once I get off the highway, the hybrid battery is almost full, only missing two "bricks" or "Bars." I will then accelerate very slowly only using the electric motor to drive the vehicle for the next couple of miles.
Once the battery has depleted to where it only has two bars, I will then accelerate a little faster to run the engine so it can charge the battery. But, I bring up the energy monitor and then watch the arrows.. making sure that arrows are coming out of then engine to drive the vehicle AND making sure that the electric motor is not supporting the engine.
My 2008 recently had auxillary battery replaces. My display (seems to me) that the battery bars on the display seem to be low or go low much more often. At freeway speeds the battery appears to be charging, that is, the number of bars get more numerous.
