My new prius c two has been parked in the garage for 4 hours since getting home from work. I walked out a minute ago to take out the trash and it was making a humming noise, like electric humming.

A couple of hours later went into the garage to drop a trash bag and heard a humming/whirling sound from the garage. Walked around the Prius and isolated it coming from the bottom rear of the car. Went and got key, turned the car on, then off again and the noise ceased. What that was? Fuel pump maybe? And why did this occur?

View 1 RepliesI have a 2011 Toyota Camry 4 Cylinder LE. When the car has been parked for a period of time 2hours plus, I hear a noise coming from the engine right in front of the Driver Seat. The noise only happens on the first acceleration after its been parked. It only happens once.
It sounds like something moves or shifts into place.
Second dead battery in 2 years. ??? Car never sits for longer than 12 hours and no internal lights on. I have a III with Sunroof.
View 14 RepliesMy wife left her newer 2013 Prius "on" at work....by this I take to mean she did not hit the on/off button when leaving the car. to turn off the car I asked if it started ok, and she reported yes; however on return from the gym about 3 miles away, she says she noticed the Hybrid Battery bars going down very quickly now and the gas-engine on almost the whole time.

I turned the car on and then off and the humming stopped. Is this normal? I know it is common for it to hum immediately after you turn the car off for a bit, but several hrs later?

I noticed while ago that after I parked for almost 4 hours already and there are still water dripping.
I have a 1998 VW Passat station 1.81 Turbo that has started to do something weird. After driving the car, after the car has been parked for 1-2 hours, the car's horn starts honking and the lights start flashing- all this for 20 seconds (approx). We don't have a remote clicker to the car, or after market alarm, so it is not an accidental hit on the button. This started a week ago, and was once a day, now sometimes it is 2 x a day. We purchased this car from our landlord who will buy it back at the end of our stay. We have already replaced clutch and fixed numerous oil leaks. What could cause this?
View 4 Replies1995 ranger. 132k miles. I have been having an intermittent starting problem. I replaced the battery which was 3+ years old. I thought that cured the issue because the truck started without a problem then, the same problem occurred. I started the truck and drove about 10 miles. Parked it for about 2 hrs. Went out and tries to start it. The engine cranked, but would not start.
Tried a second time and would not start.
I turned on the lights and proved the battery was good.
Tried to start it and it turned over.
I took it to a shop and they could not fine the problem.
I asked if it was a possible problem with the solenoid, alternator,
They said if it was those the engine would not turn and you would just hear a click.
They drove it for a week and it happened to their technician but he said he did not have his equipment to check it.
He got it started after a few tries as I did and got it back to the shop. Ran a scan.
Four codes returned that really did not identify the issue - P0231, P1701, P0340, P1270. They cleared the codes and drove it again. They checked the codes. It showed code P0340. The shop says the code states to replace the cam position sensor and installing an updated DPFE sensor.
I have been driving it for about a week on and the problem has not resurfaced yet. A friend whom I work with does some car maintenance told me it is a dead spot on the starter and to replace it.
I wrote about the problem I was having back in Jan 2014 (engine would crank too long if I left the car parked for 30 mins to 4 hrs) ..... well, I finally brought it o a good diagnosis tics place and some of the guys that replied to me we're correct ..... they told me that the crankshaft position sensor (1of 2 sensors) was faulty and replaced it.
View 3 RepliesAbout three days ago, while taking the dogs out, I go through the garage, which is not heated, and I notice the Prius is making a noise. It sounds like an electric motor running but I can not figure out where exactly the noise is coming from. It had been raining, and the car was pulled in the garage wet. About 5 minutes ago, I heard the same noise while getting the dogs in from outside. Both times I came back in the house, grabbed a FOB, and hopped in the car and put it in ready mode. I immediately shut it off, and the noise was gone. It reminds me of the sound that the car makes when you open the drivers door, which I think is the master cylinder pressurizing. It is about 7 degrees F here, but I am sure it is a little warmer in the garage.
The car has about 33K miles on it. It gets driven everyday. Today, I got home about 4:30, and this just occurred at around 9:45. Whatever is causing the noise, I am sure will put a drain on the battery, as it definitely is an electrical motor of some sort running, which will take some power. I would hope that the power was coming from the 12 volt battery, and not the traction battery, as it usually disconnects a minute or so after the car is shut off. The car was definitely shut down when I drove it in, and every light was off on the dash when I got in to power it back up, except for the flashing lock light on the right side of the display. The wind chill here tonight is supposed to go to -25 degrees F. I am concerned about the car starting if it pulls too much power from the 12 volt battery.
Two things I have just noticed on my '09 with aprox. 120,000 miles.
Starting at about 45 mph, I am getting a humming noise
Doesn't get louder as speed goes up either, stays the same 45-75 mph
Have Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 tires, did rotation, noise did not change location
Noise does go away gradually when slowing down to a stop (after I have reached 45)
I am deaf on my left side, this is hard to tell where it is coming from
Second is this really odd brake pedal clink / pop noise. When brake pedal is depressed fully to the floor, car ON or OFF, there is a clunk

Brake pads / rotors are like new, plenty of life on them. I did have the inverter pump replaced per the recall (I read somewhere this could be related?)

We parked the V in the garage at 5 pm, and at 11pm went out into the garage for something, and heard a buzzing, but had a hard time trying to locate the noise. it seemed to be coming from the V. so i opened the drivers door , and after a couple seconds it stopped. then i closed the door and it started again. i opened it a second time it stopped again, after i closed it, it didn't start buzzing again ??? does this happen to other peoples prius's
View 6 RepliesTried searching, but all I found were links to fan noise in rear seat area. Yesterday my wife was in the garage and heard a fan-like noise in the right rear wheel well. The car had been parked for a couple of hours after a trip to the doctor's office. I could faintly hear it inside the cargo area when the 12v battery is located, but it was more pronounced outside. I got the key, started the car and the noise stopped and hasn't returned. I have no problem taking it in to have it checked, but I thought I'd check here before I did that in case it's normal. It's intermittent, so I don't know how easy it will be to diagnose.

View 5 RepliesMy 2007 Prius Hybrid (92k miles) has developed a loud humming noise. It seems to be coming from in front of the driver side under the hood.
The hum begins at less than 20 mph and changes "pitch" with speed. It sounds like a tire with low air (not the problem). It also changes when the car is turned from side to side. No change in performance or MPG otherwise.
Wheel bearing is what most are saying along with a fluid situation with the transaxle.
I loved my 2009 Prius until this weekend. I just turned over 31,000 miles and now a loud humming noise has developed under the hood while driving. It has not been cold here and this doesn't start until I reach around 24 mph. It remains while the gas engine is running or I'm coasting with the engine off. The humming is there in D or in N and there no sound while turning. When I am under 24 mph the noise is gone. I have set up an appointment with my Toyota dealer for this week, but wanted to know ahead of time if any other Prius owners have had this issue.
View 5 RepliesWas the warmest/hottest day of the year here so far and my black Prius had been parked in the sun all day. When I came to drive the car the a/c came on full power to lower the cabin temperature.
However, from the front of the car the two fans were making a really weird buzzing, humming noise (but were both spinning at high speed). Now I know a/c fans work flat out sometimes but I have never heard a noise like this before on a cars a/c. It almost sounded like the noise a jammed lawnmower makes, or some of the old lifts/elevators doors make. Almost an electrical buzzing noise of a solanoid but it was coming from the two fans.
Is this normal? Was it the fans or maybe the compressor or both? The a/c was working fine and was ice cold. When the cabin temperature reduced the noise reduced a disappeared with it. However, I did manage to repeat it by turning the a/c internal fan speed to full on a low temp setting.
