Noticed that the Gen 3 black model seems to scratch very easily? In my ten years of owning cars, I've received less than 10 scratches. In 10 months of owning my Gen 3, I have now at least 5 pretty visible scratches. I do my best to park away from other cars, don't park by high pedestrian traffic streets, etc. I'm taking precautions I never took with my other cars and I still get rudely surprised almost monthly.

View 4 RepliesEvery car has its "Persian flaw," but this one irks me. A bird pooped on the car (in several places), and I always addressed the problem by laying wet paper towels over the mess to "pre soak" and then I could wipe it away without damaging the finish underneath.
Well, this time, a bird must have had a healthy diet of grit because that poop acted like sandpaper and put nice scratches into the finish before I could stop what I was doing.
It's not that obvious, but it bothers me. I don't want to attempt to buff out or polish out the scratches without knowing what WILL do the job right. I don't want to make a bigger mess trying to fix it.
I bought the car yesterday as certified used, but today I noticed some tiny scratches on the rear fender. It looks like it was scratched before, and the bumper is repainted, but not the fender. I can hardly see the scratches nor do I care too much about it, but I am going to take the car to GEICO for photo inspection, and I worry if they will deny coverage if someone hits this part of the car.
The first photo is just down to a bit of white primer, the second photo shows a deeper scratch at the corner but I am not sure if it is deep to primer or metal. This may be just a small touch-up job without taking it off. Anyway I will take the car to a shop for an estimation before I go for GEICO's inspection.
I picked up my Prius III last month (love it) and noticed some hairline scratches in the black spoiler, but thought they might wax out as they are pretty faint (they didn't).
Looks like the dealer ran a gritty wash mitt or sponge over the spoiler and swirled the finish. In the bright sun you can see many light scratches in the finish.
I thought about using a gentle polish, but wasn't sure if that was a good move as I think it is just a high gloss plastic and not paint. The last thing I want to do is add more damage.
I did wash, clay, and wax my car as soon as I could and spent some time detailing it and thought the scratches were reduced, but had it out today and they are still there.
I just purchased a 2010 Barcelona Red Prius II to replace my 2008 vehicle of the same color (which is going to our daughter). We have a terrific dog who, in my 2008 car, would often step onto the metal part of the car when getting onto or off from the backseat. This has left scratches in the paint, as it lies behind the area protected by the grey plastic in both cars (i.e., where it begins to slope upward). Is there anything that can be done to protect this?
View 7 RepliesWhen the sun is fairly low but bright on the horizon and in front of the windshield there are thousands of tiny specks visible in the windshield that are fairly evenly distributed. They are very small and almost look metallic and appear to be within the safety glass laminate. It is very annoying even when using the sun visor and restricts visibility noticeably.
We have the same thing with our 2006 Prius with approx 80,000 miles and our 2010 Prius has about 30,000 miles. At first I thought it might be some pitting on the surface of the windshield due to road or dust debris but the glass appears to be perfectly smooth. No matter how well I clean the windshield these small specks still appear. I have researched this a bit and have seen quite a few reports from others with this phenomenon especially with GM and BMW vehicles even with new vehicles or new windshields. The most likely thing I have found so far is that it is caused by a metal flake put between the glass lamination to reduce glare.
My car is usually garage-kept. Last week, I left it in an outdoor parking lot at the airport for 5 days, with temps ranging from 5 to 20 degrees. When I returned and turned it on, it responded with a very loud and visible shudder that lasted about 20 seconds. It gradually diminished, and then was fine. I've been driving it normally for two days, with no more symptoms. But this morning, turning the car on in the garage, it gave me the shudder again, this time for only about 5 seconds.
View 15 Replieswe've had our 2010 Ford Escape limited about a month now. Don't know how it happened, but somehow now there's 4 or 5 2 inch scratches in the drivers side view mirror. These mirrors are heated, how can I tell if they're still operational now? I know scratches in the class can compromise the heat function. I want to get it fixed immediately if it doesn't work.
View 1 Replies2010 ES 350 with 103k miles on it. I noticed what appeared to be oil in the muffler, it was visible on both sides. It was raining so perhaps the rain was just getting into the muffler tip and cleaning the carbon. The engine was very smooth, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
View 8 RepliesI've had my v for about a year and I find that I have many scratches and gouges especially in the cargo area. The plastic seems much easier to damage than any car I've ever had. I'll need to be especially careful in the future. But I would like to find a way to cover up, seal or patch the damages.

View 12 RepliesI went thru a number of exterior LED lights for my Prius but none of them was visible and safe to be used during daylight until I found these vendor and model. I am very happy safely running full LED exterior except for the headlights. To have the proper blinking frequency on your turn signal lights, you will have to upgrade to an electronic flasher (see below).
The interior has never been a problem and I've upgraded that several months ago. Here are the details and purchase information for both internal and external items that I've purchased...
My wife came home today and asked me to take a look at something on her brand new 1 month old Prius V 5. I asked her was there something wrong with her car. Of course she told me no, everything is fine. She opens up the driver side front car door, (she has a Barcelona Red V with Bisque faux leather interior) and points out some small scratches on the plastic silver/gray plastic piece that surrounds the power window buttons. It looks like while she was driving she probably put her hand on that area with her wedding band and diamond most likely scratching the area. This is only a guess at what caused it. I can't believe something as placing your hand down would scratch it that easily. That area probably shouldn't be plastic or should of been protected a little better.
View 6 RepliesMy prius 2010 II is giving bad mileage. I am getting 16.5 to 17 km/l. when I bought it (6 months ago) it was giving me about 22 to 25 km/l. And now it, not showing me the bar graphs , and green leaf car graph, which it was showing me when i bought it. I checked the battery by vehicle signal check . It gave me around 12.3v in the morning , after leaving off for a full night.
View 19 RepliesMy 2007 Toyota Prius occasionally sounds like there is metal dragging somewhere in the front of the car. It usually only happens at low speeds after I have been driving on a highway. If I get out of the car to check. I can't see anything dragging under the car. The sound usually goes away if I continue to drive or (if I've reached my destination) if I let drive the car again later. What this noise might be? The car has 172,000 miles on it, and it has had the wheel bearings changed multiple times in the past few years...I don't know if that has anything to do with the noise.

View 8 RepliesI just purchased my daughter a used 2006 Prius and we found water in the rear right passenger floor board this morning. We have only had the car 3 days. There are on leaks that I could find inside the car. I looked in the tire well and water was there and also near the 12Volt battery also. The brownish/yellow sealant in the tire well that goes around the bottom is also in my 2010 Prius but I noticed that my daughters 2006 Prius the sealant or what I believe to be bodyflex is cracked. I am going to have a body person look and see if he agrees with me that this bodyflex is cracked.
View 2 RepliesMy car was neatly parked in a parking lot and when I came out to get my car, I found this huge scrape and scratches on the driver's side, passenger door. I was very angry at whoever did this because there is no way unless you are a stupid driver, that you will be able to hit my car because I parked right in the center of the parking space. Didn't leave a note or anything.
The scrapes and scratches do not seem too deep but the area is a bit large. I tried the Meguire's 2.0 but it didn't seem to work. What product I should use for this type of damage?

having just picked up a new 2011 GTI 2-door. Got a fantastic deal and couldn't be happier. I was a previous MkIV R32 owner and a vortex member, but the admins haven't responded to my request to get my old userID reinstated (it's attached to a forgotten password and an outdated email address).
So while I'm thrilled with the new GTI, I'm having some growing pains. It's cold here in MD and so my clear bra install didn't go do well. Still, the paint is protected and I'll redo it in the spring.
But today I drove the car in the sunshine for the first time (took it home at night) and found two small scratches in the windshield right at driver's eye level. They are thin, but they are there (you can just barely feel them with your fingernail), about 2 inches long and about a half an inch apart - given the arc, they were probably caused by the windshield wipers.
My question is this: the car has 47 miles on it and I just got it home, so these scratches were likely there when I bought the car (it had never even been test driven). Which option would you all pick???
1. It's a brand new car, call the dealer and make them buff out the scratches or replace the windshield, or,
2. Accept that new German windshield glass is SUPER soft and it is going to get scratched anyway, and just enjoy the new GTI.
As you can see, I'm obsessing a bit, as one does with a brand new car. I was really bummed out about the clear bra install failure, and now this.
