Prius C :: Radio Don't Recognise Voice Commands

Aug 19, 2012

I've tried "tune to," but it keeps tuning to the closest AM or FM station that has those numbers in it. It works when I press the voice command and say "satellite," it goes to the last satellite channel that I was tuned to, but if I want to change the channel, it doesn't recognize the command.

Prius C (Audio/Electronics) :: Entune And USB Voice Commands - Playing All Songs From All Artists?

I am enjoying the Entune System on my Prius C but I got a question? When using voice commands for playing a song on the USB drive it will list that as song 1/1 which is what it should do, If I choose a artist and album it will list all songs from that album. but how do I return to the playing the USB drive to play all songs from all artists?

I tried
Play...All Songs
Play...Artists Random
Play...Random

nothing, and the manual was not useful...

Camry 2012+ :: Voice Commands Always Initializing - Never Works

On my 14.5 there is something wrong with the Entune. Every time I try to use voice commands it tells me it is initializing and to please wait. No beep or voice, just a message on the screen. I first thought it was because I had an iPod Classic and it was taking too long to index, but it does that for everything; phone, nav, even voice training. I also notice it often plays a completely different track then the one I select when manually selecting songs on my playlists, it that normal?

I tried cycling the unit on and off, and made sure everything was up to date. Should I try resetting everything on the unit back to factory? I don't think that will default the firmware though, will it? I have a service appointment on the 30th as a 30 day checkup since buying it but would like to try and figure it out first. I've seen some posts suggesting that Toyota has been replacing head units for it, which would suck.

Toyota - Highlander :: 2015 Poor Navigation System And Voice Commands

We just purchased a 2015 Highlander to replace our 2005 Highlander that was totaled. We used to use a Garmin with the 2005 Highlander. When we purchased the 2005 the moon roof was an option. Now, it only comes with the XLE or above. The only features of the XLE we were interested in were the Navigation system and the moon roof. Otherwise, we would have been happy with a simple LE with no options.

This weekend we took our first road trip with the 2015. While the navigation system itself seems to be ok (it didn't send us the wrong way or anything), the design of the user interface really is horrible (at least when compared to the Garmin).

My wife was driving so I thought I would take our old Garmin and program in a few addresses into the new 2015 navigation system. I couldn't figure out how so I called up the dealership and found out that we can't do so while the vehicle is driving. In fact, I don't think you can do it while its in park either. We were told that the voice recognition system could be used to enter a destination (but not other addresses for future use).

Well, the voice recognition system was something we weren't very excited about when we first tried to use it to make calls a couple of days earlier. Nonetheless, we tried. It literally took us 30 minutes for the system to recognize the address: 1 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo, California.

While the instruction indicate that you should say the entire address as above, the system was unable to figure it out. (We don't have any accents and we had trained the system earlier in the week.) The system had all sorts of problems. Finally, we got the system to understand the destination by first stating the city and state, and then stating the street and street number. I don't understand why the directions would not tell you to do that to begin with. I can see that the voice recognition system is going to take a lot of getting used to.

But, my biggest complaint is that the navigation system will not allow you to enter new addresses unless the car is in accessory mode (the engine is turned off). My wife was driving and so I could have easily done so without any safety issues. In addition, when we were trying to find a restaurant at our destination, it would only list about 7 or so restaurants. It stated that additional restaurants could be seen only when the car was no longer moving. That is simply ridiculous. So, apparently, we are now required to stop the car and turn the engine off before we can determine where we want to eat at a place we may have never been to before!!!!

The problem is that there are a ton of touch-screen options that you can still do with the navigation system and Entune while the car is moving that are just as distracting or more. So, the designers have not in any way made the car safer to drive. Only more annoying. Moreover, the car already has a sensor that knows when there is a passenger. So, it should allow full access if it notices a person in the passenger seat (at a minimum).

The cost difference between the LE and XLE was $5k. There is no way I would have purchased the XLE had I know how clumsy the user interface to the navigation system is. The voice recognition system sucks and does not in anyway improve the safety of the passengers. It just increases their frustration level with the system.

My recommendation is that if the navigation system is the reason for you to consider the XLE, don't!!! Get the LE and buy a Garmin for less than $200, which is much easier to operate, has more customization options, and does not prevent you from doing things have no relationship with safety when a passenger is onboard.

Oh... also, the navigation system will only accommodate 100 addresses. In this day and age when you can get a tiny 64GB secure digital hard drive, such a limitation makes no sense. The Garmin also let me change the navigation voice to a male Australian accent that my wife (the primary driver of the car) like more. No such luck with the Toyota navigation system (at least that I could find).

There are actually a whole bunch of other little things about the navigation system and Entune that I can harp about, but those are my biggest complaints. Another one is that once I entered some addresses, I found that it would only sort by name or date. Date??? Why would I want to sort by Date? What about distance from current location??? Wouldn't that be more relevant? But that is not an option.

Otherwise, the 2015 Highlander itself is very nice.

Prius V :: Navigation Voice Guidance Does Not Mute Radio

Brought the Prius v in yesterday for the 3 yr service. Service advisor was very nice, did not try to sell anything more than an oil change basically. I was concerned the voice prompts do not mute the radio, meaning it is very hard to understand the voice guidance unless you turn down the radio volume. Service advisor first calls and says the Bluetooth is working normally. I clarify that the Navigation voice prompts are the issue. He says he'll call back in a little bit. Calls back and says it is normal. Is this normal? The bluetooth functionality mutes the radio. I don't remember it being like that in the past....

Prius Plug-in 2012-15 :: Auto-mute Radio During Voice Guidance?

So, I've owned the PiP for 10 days and 140 miles, and this is the first car I've ever owned with built-in navigation (TomTom and Garmin have served me quite well previously). One of the benefits of built-in nav should be the integration of the voice guidance with the audio system. Yet on my PiP, the system does not mute the radio when the voice guidance announces a turn. Am I missing something? Is there a hidden setting? I've searched the manuals fruitlessly so far.

Gen 3 Prius (Audio/Electronics) :: 2014 - Voice Control Malfunction / No Sound While Radio Is Playing?

I just bought a 2014 Prius Three on Monday.

Yesterday, I accidentally hit the Voice Command button. It went to the screen and I got out of it. However then I couldn't hear any sound. The radio was clearly playing but no sound. When I pressed source it just showed a symbol in top right corner. I guess I should have thought to just turn the car off and restart because when I got home and did that, it worked fine.

My main question is about about the iphone 5, bluetooth, and Voice Controls.

I have bluetooth and Personal Hotspot enabled (so I do not have it plugged in to usb outlet) on my iphone enabled but it appears that I cant say "Play (Artist)" and have it play that from my iphone. It says something about an unsupported media device.

When I push the button on my Iphone and tell it to play a song, it does play a song but not the song I requested. It also shows on the car display that it is calling myself.

Voice commands for calling seem to work but I can't figure out if it is not possible to play songs using voice commands with an iphone or what the issue is.

Prius (2010-12) :: Voice Warning - Battery Is Low

Yesterday I heard a voice warning in my 2011 Prius. It said in effect "your battery is low". Glancing at the display my hybrid battery icon was two dots from the top, so I assume it meant the 12 volt battery. Not having a voltmeter, is there any way to check the health of my 12 volt which only has 33k miles on it.

Prius (2010-12) :: Voice Guidance Stopped Working

I bought the 2012 Prius three in Apr, and the navigation was working fine, when i entered a destination. When I entered a destination, it would say, "Please drive to the highlighted route" and it would tell the turn by turn directions and in case you miss the turn, it will immediately say "Route Recalculation" and then guide you to the next turn.

Somehow this stopped working and there is no voice guidance!!! Now when I enter the a destination, it will not say anything. If you are driving in the right direction, no turn by turn voice guidance. If you miss the turn, then it will say "calculating the route". This is driving me nuts since 2-3 weeks. I must have pressed some button or deactivated it unknowingly.

I took it to the dealer and the service technician could not figure it out. They said that they have to call the Toyota Technical Service to find out ( looks like only they can call, not the owner).

They said they tried to reset it to the factory setting, but that didn't work. Not sure if they know what they are doing. I think these technicians are mechanics, but not familiar with the software and the electronic components and their operation.

Prius V (Audio/Electronics) :: Voice Command List?

I recently bought a Prius 3 and am very happy with its mechanical performance and fuel efficiency, but the driver interface sucks for the electronics. I'm used to my 2008 Mercedes S550, which may be an unfair comparison, but I really hate having to take my eyes off the road and reach across the dash to use a touch screen. I do like filling the tank for $25 rather than $70, though

I have tried a few voice commands with mixed results. Sometimes I get the requested result, sometimes I get a random (or no) response, and sometimes I strangely get a message to the effect that this function is not available while driving, even though I can get it via touch-screen while driving.

I found on the Mercedes there are a few commands I use often, and a huge number that I have no interest in. They are easy to find from either a tree structure in the manual or an alphabetized list grouped by the subsystem.

From searching the manual and the various Prius forums it appears that there is no readily-available comprehensive list of commands. The manual seems to give only examples and implies that you can step through the on-screen menu trees by voice, giving occasional examples. But I've had very little success with that. I also don't like having to take my eyes off the road to read the list at each level or having the car speak the list, which is way too slow. Both take too much concentration away from driving. With the Mercedes I can usually activate a command directly even if it is several levels down in a tree (e.g. "navigate to <a stored destination>") while an audio screen is displayed.

I have found a few lists online, but they don't agree with each other and seem to be from 5-10-year-old models. In general, they seem to list far more commands than I see on my screens.

Prius 2016 (Gen 4) :: How To Turn Off Voice Prompting Temporarily In Nav

Have searched the manual and cannot determine if it is possible to turn off the voice prompts on Nav. This is on a 2016 Prius 4 with ATP and PCP. I do understand that I can turn down the sound in settings, but that is many key presses and I'm looking for a way to turn it off temporarily from the map itself.

Use case is that I tend to keep Nav running all the time for traffic conditions, even when I know the way. When I am conversing with others in the car I want to silence it briefly.
