With the car off and me standing at rear hatch and it is raised I pushed the latch closed manually and I can't figure out how to release it back to the unlatched position. I tried the door locks to no avail.
As an aside I was doing this to troubleshoot why my alarm is going off alot. I have a relative new yellowtop battery installed and will replace the fob battery later.
A thin blanket is caught in the lock of the rear hatch door. I have removed the cover on the utility box inside the car, and moved the lever but that did not work. I can hear the mechanism working when pressing the unlock but the door does not release. I tried pulling the blanket but it does not budge. I don't want to cut the blanket away because I could not reach what is stuck in the mechanism.

We cannot seem to get an answer from local Volvo Dealers because they are profit driven and want us to come in so they can sell us service and when we go online to ask a mechanic.
View 13 RepliesI have an '01 Santa Fe and love it, except for the fact that I can no longer fold the passenger side of my rear seat. We recently moved and I guess one of the kids put the rear seats back up and didn't think to make sure that the strap that goes to the latch release was where it belonged, because now it's stuck under the seat. Actually, I think it may be stuck in the latch itself. My sis (a proud '05 SF owner) and I have tried everything we can think of to free it - it was actually quite comical to watch - but no luck. We can feel the strap but we can't get a good grip on it and can't really move it. It folds under the seat right where the latch is, that's why I think it's stuck in the latch.
View 4 RepliesI noticed my hood latch release getting a little stiffer over some time to the point that my hood latch cable stretched out and didn't work. I fixed it by tying a knot in the cable to shorten the length and now it works fine. HOWEVER, it is still getting stiffer. I unhooked the 2 cable peices where they connect under the hood on the driver side to see if they are sticking, they both are smooth. I also latch the release mechanism (without closing the hood) and activated it easily. BUT still when I use it on the hood, it is very stiff.

I have got the interior panel removed and the what i will call the latch plate assembly out of the way... I can see one Phillips head screw down in the hole ... but can get nothing to move ... this thing is rock solid on the latch bolt.... what can i do?
View 4 RepliesI have a new issue with my '02 Silverado, which so far has been a good truck. However, about a week ago when I tried to open the tailgate, the latch wouldn't release. I have yanked on the tailgate with my full weight (260 lbs) while pulling on the release handle, and have not had any success at getting it open.
The release handle seems to work OK, but the internal latch mechanism seems to be jammed in some way. I have even tried parking the truck on different surfaces, just to see if tilting the truck at different angles would loosen the latch, but that didn't work either.
It's as if the tailgate were welded shut. fortunately, most stuff I put in the bed isn't too heavy for me to lift over the gate or the bed sides, but I'd really like to have my tailgate working again. I have even thought that if I do get the gate open, that I'd disable the latch and install a hook-and-chain setup like what trucks had in the early 1960s and prior (since it's a work truck and I'm not planning to part with, it I'm not concerned about resale value).
This happened a few days ago, that the driver's side door handle does not release the latch and let the driver door open. we can open the door fine from inside. the remote key un-locks/locks the door fine. What I've tried :
- Slamming the door hard a few times,
- Pulling both the inside and outside door handles at the same time
- Greasing the latch mechanism on the door end (what hooks onto the latch)
Today I removed the lock cylinder, but from what i can see with the cylinder removed the door handle looks ok (no broken or missing pieces). What would be the next thing to do?

I have removed the panel cover; cables are out - door is still stuck! Is there a way to release the latch? It is the driver side back door - 2001 Lariat.
View 4 RepliesMy hood has ceased to pop open when I pull the latch from the interior release. I removed the panel to see if the cable came undone from the release lever but it is still intact. From what I can tell, the cable seems to be snapped in the middle. I brought the car to 2 different mechanics, both said they would have to do damage to get under the hood. But I've read online and it seems other people are able to do it.
View 5 RepliesI hear the electrical activity of the door lock mechanism.....locking and unlocking the door but the door latch is "frozen" closed and will not release. Inner and/or exterior door handles fail to release the latch no matter how many times they are pulled. Red Led on the top of the door pannel functions normally.
View 4 RepliesI have been having trouble trying to release the lever under the hood on my 2009 Jetta. the interior lever seems to be working but when I attempt to depress the hood lever it won't budge! I like to check my oil on a regular basis and I have never had this challenge before. I'm also worried that if I am able to release it that I will not be able to secure it afterwards, rendering my vehicle inoperable. I am strongly considering just taking it for an oil change and "springing" the dilemma on the garage.
View 3 RepliesThe release hatch in back of the 2010 thru 2015 Prius is horrible in the winter. It freezes and gets stuck causing the back hatch not to open. Maybe they should have had some kind of setup like the back window defroster where it defrosts the hatch...
View 6 RepliesI opened the trunk to put something in this morning and when I tried to close it the darn thing kept bouncing right back up. So I luckily brought it directly to the dealership who was able to get me an appt. at 11:30 the same day. By 11:45 I got a call that the trunk latch was faulty and had been replaced and the car was ready to go.It was really annoying because there is no way to actually tie down the trunk if it won't close, so I had to drive to the dealership with my trunk open! You'd think they could have put some type of clips or hooks to hook up.

View 4 RepliesO.K., I admit I get obsessive compulsive with my new cars for a few weeks after I buy them. Just got the '08 Limited and am trying to find where a few little noises are coming from. I've eliminated most now, but the 1 thing really bugging me is the seat belts. The rear belt part that you grab and then buckle into the seat latch rattles like crazy over bumps. It's just the piece hitting that plastic grommet in the middle of the belt. So, short of leaving the belts latched in place or (hubbys suggestion) turning the radio up, is there something to prevent them from making this racket? I almost never use the rear belts.
Compared to my 2004 I'm surprised I am bothered by it, but it is so quite it really stands out. That cheap plastic liner in the back also bugs me as the "wings" at the wheel wells rattle. I had a super heavy duty plastic liner and a really nice carpet mat in my 2004 that I really miss. Oh well, I guess they have to cut costs somewhere. Oh, almost had a near heart attack last night when I used my spare key and it got STUCK in the ignition! Took hubby 10 minutes to yank it out. I think it was a faulty key as they gave me 3 keys instead of 2. I think they knew it was bad, cut another and never discarded the bad one. Other than that no complaints so far and hope to stay as trouble free as my last one which never saw the inside of a repair shop in the 4 years I owned it.
OK, Two days ago, at random, my lock stuck and would not open. I looked on this site and the best solution was to try to reset by disconnecting the battery. However, yesterday before I could get home and try it, the trunk starting opening and would not shut.
This morning I did the battery d/c. I notice the latch would pull the trunk down and then release several times. It appears about 5 times and then stopped in the open position. I put a screwdriver in the latch hook to see if that would stop the latch. It would not. I did the battery d/c about 5 times and no avail. I also checked the emergency pull inside the trunk and it is fine. I checked the latch release inside the car as well as in the glove box and they both appear to be in good working order.
So, I am led to believe I have either a wiring harness or a motor problem. I am leaning to the wiring harness because the pull down motor for the soft close is also not working.
Im looking to find a wiring diagram for the speakers. I have the 2007 Avalon XL. I dont have naviigation or JBL system. I want to install a line out converter to install an amp for my sub.
