Problem I am having with my '04, my shifter stays in the "D" position when selected. The previous owner said it did not use to do that when new, it does not do it when "R" or "B" are selected, so perhaps something inside is awry or something was spilled on it. I thought I may take it apart and clean/lube it.

View 19 RepliesWell I read most of the 2011 manual last night to find out why I have "M" on my gearshift, & found it near the end...so we can manually shift our gears. So I normally drive in D, and I use the tow/haul switch when trailing...so under what circumstances does the normal person need to manually shift through 5 gear positions using M, and the 5-position switch?
View 7 RepliesWhen I am in 6th gear (this only happens in 6th) the shifter kicks forward (towards the front of the car) about a quarter inch when I let off of the gas. When I press the gas again the shifter kicks back (towards the back of the car) a quarter inch.
I believe that this is caused by the haldex disengaging, because no matter how slowly I let off of the throttle, the kick is the same strength (or force? dont really know how to describe it). I was wondering if this is normal, or if I should get it checked out?
When I searched the only thing that came up was checking the mounts. I'm not sure this is the solution to my problem since this ONLY happens when I am in 6th gear, all other gears feel solid.
I noticed the system allows me to have EV selected at the same time as one of the other two "non-normal" modes. What's the effect and function of this?

View 2 RepliesI picked up a 2004 GTI not long ago for pretty cheap because it had a few issues. I am working my way through them. However, having 3rd gear issue.
All other gears are perfectly fine but there is way less play in the shifter in the 3rd gear position and I have to hold the shifter in position until the clutch is engaged (pedal up) to avoid the gear grinding. Once the clutch is engaged it stays in 3rd gear fine. It doesn't matter if I am moving from 2nd to 3rd or 4th to 3rd. Same deal. I have aligned the shifter several times using to proper procedures with no effect.
It never grinds 3rd with the clutch disengaged (so the synchro is fine?) and it will bang shift no problem. Oh and the clutch is less than a year old. It was installed by a shop before I bought the car. It's not really a big deal, but I would like to fix it. If I have to swap the trans that's fine, but need to figure out if it is a trans or linkage issue first.
My son who is away at college, has a 04 F150 that has a center console and he can't get the truck to shift out of the 'Park' position. I told him to try and rock the truck back and forth and then try again...no luck.
View 1 RepliesI own a 2013 Elantra GT that my wife drives. We have had it since late September 2012, so it is about 20 months old now, with only 2250 miles. Yes, I know, it is not even broken in yet.
Anyway, yesterday when the wife returned from some shopping she told me that the radio in the car is still on after the engine was off, the ignition locked and the key in your hand.
I checked it out, and sure enough, the radio was still on. I restarted the car, and discovered the power button would not turn the radio off, the radio volume could not be changed, and the station could not be changed. Every control for the Audio system was inoperative, along with all the control buttons on the left side of the steering wheel.
Every thing else in the car appeared to work. When I shut the engine off, and removed the key, the radio still played on. I took the car over to the dealership first thing this morning; the service rep, the service manager and a service tech could not figure it out. I had to leave the car with them, so that one of their Electronic Certified Techs who comes in later could check it out.
They drove the car to a service bay, and disconnected the battery, so the radio would not run the battery down. When the tech came in, he reconnected the battery, and everything now works. They have no idea at all what happened.
I have a new 2013 prius Three and lately have been having difficulty with my radio.Within the past week every time I plug my iPhone in to listen to my iPod my controls on my steering wheel work in a weird way.
For example if I am listening to a playlist on my iPhone and want to skip to the next song, when I hit the steering wheel control to do that the radio shows the iPod icon and spins and then just picks a random song from my iTunes library. This also happens when I am listening to pandora through my iPhone. If I hit the next button it stops pandora and switches to my iTunes library even if it isn't open.
Should I be concerned that I have something wrong with my radio. Everything as far as entune works fine. I haven't used navigation in a few weeks so I am not sure of that as of right now.
My 2006 Prius when first started after sitting a while, when manually shifted into Reverse the car will shift into drive instead and vice versa. The mechanics say it's impossible BUT IT"S HAPPENING! It has already cost me over a thousand dollars in damages, it may some day be a critical safety issue.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2008 Nissan Rogue that is experiencing a shifter problem. The problem is that periodically the shifter will not go from the "park" position to the "drive" position after the car is started and your foot is on the brake. I have been able to drive the car by inserting a small screwdriver into the slot on the gear shift assembly to depress the switch that allows you to override the mechanism but as you can imagine that is tedious and what do you do if suddenly the screwdriver is lost - you go nowhere and you can't even get to store to buy another one because the car won't move!
I have had the car into the dealer twice now and they have been unable to correctly diagnose the shifter problem. They have said that it could be a failed solenoid that senses the brake pedal being depressed but so far that has checked out fine. They also thought that it may be a brake sensor and they asked me to keep an eye on the brake lights to see if they come on when the brake pedal is depressed and the lights do come on so they believe that is not an issue. They "repositioned" the shift assembly in the car center console thinking that it may be an improper position and they tightened it down into place but that has not corrected the problem either. They now tell me that the entire shift assembly needs to be replaced at a cost of $670.00 and I find that hard to believe let alone pay for!
The car has about 70,000 mile on it and it was recently in an accident that did deploy some side airbags and I am wondering too if the accident may have damaged the assembly in some way that caused the malfunction where the repairs may be covered by my insurance company. This has only started after the accident repairs were made and we never had a problem like this prior to that event.
TPMS light was on. It was the spare , added more air. Then checked the other tires, one was low too and added air. Now TPMS light stays off no matter what position the TPMS switch is in. The light used to come on when switch was in the 'wrong' position.
2005 GX470 66k miles
I have a 2011 Sonata and my overhead light stays on in the DOOR position. I didn't have problems until I took it to a car wash a few months ago and I think one of the workers did something by accident because it hadn't worked since. I have to keep it OFF at night but I hate entering my car at night and no light comes on.

View 1 RepliesI had a dead battery in my 2002 Solara. After I had it replaced the indicator lights on the dash would stay on. Also the fan blower will keep running if not turned off. So I have accessories running with the key in the off position. I have checked all fuses and they appear good. Bad ignition switch?
View 3 RepliesWhen I have the mirror tilt feature active for both mirrors(left switch position) the driver side mirror does not return to the preset position. The passenger side works fine but I have to manually reposition the driver side so I know it is not in the mechanism, it seems it is not sensing the transmission in drive but only on the driver side. How hard is it to replace the faulty sensor or whatever the failed part?
View 4 RepliesRear wiper stays on regardless of switch position. It runs as if the switch was on - intermittently. No critters chewing, Stops with the fuse pulled. We get lots of snow and I need it, rain-x won't cut it. It has 80k on the clock and everything works perfectly. the wiper homes between runs. Disconnected the battery for 5 mins for fun. Is this switch prone to this kind of failure?

My transmission stays in the OD off position until I hit 55 mph no matter the tune I am using and then will up shift to OD. It turns back off once I drop below 30 mph.
I was told when I bought the truck that it was a factory tow package. Is this a thing?
I would like an option to turn it off when I'm not towing or climbing a hill if I can.
Any way to modify it with a switch?
After long day/night on call, get into 2005 Camry XLE 2.4L and it is blowing hot air out of vents unless I select max AC where it blasts so much cold air I cant stand it. Brand new issue and had no other indications of any issues. No engine light on and vehicle appears to be operating normally.
