Prius (Gen 3) :: Where Does The Cabin Air Being Pulled From To Get Recirculated

Oct 27, 2011

Where the cabin air is taken from to get recirculated?

I thought it was taken from the foot well of the passenger, but based on the position of the air filter there (behind the glove compartment) and presence of dirt on the top (and not the bottom) of it, it seems that air is pushed out (downwards) and not taken from the foot well.

Phaeton :: Rear Cabin Dome Light Pulled Over Fault Code E327

At the end of my first week of ownership, I encountered problems with the rear cabin light in my car not working properly - sometimes it came on when the doors were opened, and sometimes it did not. I mentioned it to the Phaeton technician at my dealership, and we agreed to just defer investigation and rectification until the car was due to come in for its first oil change.

After I finished putting the start button in, I ran a diagnostic scan on the car, and the problem with the rear cabin dome light was the only remaining fault code. So - I kind of figured "gee, this can't be rocket science to fix", and I removed the rear cabin light assembly from the roof of the car.

I had a close look at it, and found the cause of the problem pretty quickly. When the assembly was put together, the tiny black wire that carries power to the rear cabin interior light button became trapped between the large bus bar that serves as a ground for all the switches and some foam insulation that protects the circuit board from the ground bus bar. The entire assembly would have tested out just fine when it was manufactured, but over time, the vibration encountered in transporting the car from Germany to Canada, and the vibration caused when I drove the car around during my first week of ownership caused the bus bar to cut through the insulation on the wire - hence the short circuit. All I had to do to fix it was just poke the wire out from under the bus bar. Everything works great now.

The fault code that was generated - "Rear Interior Lamp Button - Short to Earth" was absolutely dead-on, and took me directly to the problem. I really doubt if I ever would have found this problem if the car did not have such a competent self-diagnostic system.

Camry 2012+ :: Change Default From Recirculated Air To Outside Air

new 2014.5 Camry SE owner. Had the car about a week now and I've noticed every time I turn on the car, it defaults to recirculated in-cabin air, even when I've last turned off the car with it set to fresh outside air. Is it possible to change this default, either from recirculated to "last setting", or from recirculated to outside?

Prius (2004-09) :: Car Sometimes Beeps With Key Pulled Out

At times my 08 will beep when I open the driver's door and I have the keys in my hands. The only thing I can assume is that it thinks the key is still in. On occasion this has caused my battery to go flat.

To stop it I just go through the sequence of putting the key back in, put it in D then P then foot on the brake and the off/power/start button, it took me 5 goes to get it back to normal tonight.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - P3019 Along With P0A80 Pulled Over

I've a 2005 Prius with ~193,000 miles. It recently started throwing codes P3019 (Battery Block 9 becomes weak) and P0A80 (Replace Hybrid Battery). Codes were pulled with a laptop running Techstream and a mini-VCI cable.

Figuring I had some time, cleared the codes and only drove the Prius for short trips. At first things were OK, but of course the codes reset after a few days, and pretty soon they were permanent. And the car had very little power, battery fan running on high.

Then when slowly accelerating from a traffic light (there is no rapid acceleration in a gimpy Prius), there was a "BANG" noise, really loud. It sounded like someone tossed an M-80 at the car. Pulled over, didn't see any damage, though there was a strong "fireworks" smell like gunpowder outside the car. Started the car, it fired up fine, drove it home.

After a couple more weeks the car refused to start, wouldn't go into "Ready" mode. So finally I took the interior apart and opened up the battery case. Here is what I found (pic attached).

Moral of story - don't drive too far when you get the P0A80.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2006 - P1121 Error Code Pulled Over

I have a 2006 prius whose check engine light just came on 1 hour ago. I had it diagnosed and it is giving me the p1121 code, or the coolant flow control valve. I checked the coolant level and it was very low. I added fluid, but the CEL is still on. I have to make an 11 hour trip tomorrow.

Prius (2004-09) :: Error Code P0852 And C2315 Pulled Over

I took my 2006 in for its 50,000 mile oil change today, and I was told I had the following codes related to the transmission and the park/neutral switch:

P0852 (System: Hybrid Control; shown as "hist," presumably historical)

C2315 (System: Transmission Control; shown as "curr," presumably current)

My car is running fine, and none of the dashboard lights have indicated any problem.

Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Pulled Over Error Code P0420

So I bought a used 2005 Prius back in August it had 88,000 miles on it and was out of warranty. But I had a full inspection on it and the car was in great shape. Well, after a few months of driving, I got the P0420 error. I took it into my mechanic who cleared the code and told me to call him if it came back on. It came back on, then I cleared it myself, and it came back on again. So it was confirmed that I had a bad catalytic converter.

Prius (2010-12) :: Car Pulled To The Left Quite Badly After Tires Replaced

I got two new Bridgestone ER300 Ecopia to replace two on the front. Trouble is after getting the tires fitted the car pulled to the left quite badly and my mpg's went down! Hmmm. I checked the tires in case a non low rolling resistance tire had been fitted by mistake, but they were correct. I then checked the pressures, which again were correct. So I guessed the tracking must have been out so booked it in with the dealers for checking. After a couple hours and a couple test drives later they advised the tracking is fine and the tires are fine. Odd.

Just filled up for the second time since the new tires and I'm struggling to get anywhere near 50 mpg! Even after a few long trips where I know from past experience that I could get mid 60's easily. I've inspected the tires closely and note that one of the new ones is made in Italy and the rest are from France. All the loadings, ratings and the type are the same, just made in a different factory and it is a slightly lighter colour compared to the French ones.

Prius V :: While Driving Seat Belts Pulled Very Tight / Brakes Slammed On

Today I was on a highway traveling at 60 miles an hour. There were no cars in front or on either side and nothing on the road. My foot was on the accelerator and not on the brake. Suddenly the seat belts pulled very tight (I believe that is called "pre-tensioning") and the brakes slammed on without any input from me. The car rapidly decelerated to about 30 miles an hour. Fortunately there was nobody tailgating me. After that everything seemed OK. My vehicle is a 2013 Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) model 5 which has the technology package.

I took the car to the dealer and they checked the collision avoidance system and said they could not find a problem. The service manager said he has a Camry and it has happened to him once. They had never heard of it happening on a Prius. Apparently Toyota has a bulletin about this for the Camry, but not the Prius. They suggested I turn off the Collision Avoidance System with a switch that is under the dash.

I am not sure whether to turn it off because if I do I lose the adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance, If I leave it on this can happen again possibly causing an accident.

Prius C :: Beep In Cabin When In Reverse?

New noise maker means they turned off that "cabin" beep nonsense when in "R"? With our ZVW30, the ONLY indication that the last of the gas is gone is the 'power flow' arrows disappear. I'm wondering if Toyota might have brought back something to let the driver know the last of the gas is gone.

Prius (Gen 2) :: Foul Electric-like Smell Throughout The Cabin

Problem we experienced today with our 06 Prius - 63k miles. Up to this point, the car has been completely trouble-free. Abruptly, there was an extremely strong, foul electric-like smell throughout the cabin. No sudden acceleration, not pulling any heavy loads, no out of the ordinary driving. The weather was in the low 60s today. No a/c or heat being used at the time. The smell persists or becomes even stronger after the car sits turned off for several hours. the battery vent was not blocked, but the smell does appear to be stronger at the vent. The smell is so strong that we can't tolerate sitting in the car.

Prius (Gen 2) :: 2008 - Intermittent Blower In Cabin

I have been having an intermittent blower in the cabin and decided to bring the car into the dealer to have the car looked at. I just bought the car a few weeks ago and wanted to make sure it wasn't something serious. The dealer told me that there was a short in the blower motor and that it would cost $500.00 to fix. After doing some research this appears to be a VERY common problem on the prius as well as issues with the car door lock system.

Prius (Gen 4) :: Pleats On Cabin Air Filter Run In A Different Direction

I had a surprise this morning when I attempted to put in a new Cabin Air Filter. These filters look square at first glance, but are actually rectangular -- about 7-3/4" x 8-3/8" or so.

The issue is that the pleats on the one that came with the car run in a different direction than the one I purchased from my local Toyota dealer.

While the obvious enough solution would be to simply rotate the new filter 90* before putting it into the plastic carrier, this is impossible since the plastic carrier has a divider that runs parallel to the pleats.

Now I tried to reach it. But I can not figure out how to take grove box rid with out giving a damage. Even it may not there behind a glove box (my wild guess).

Toyota - Prius :: Fumes In Cabin Whenever Use Fan (heat Or AC)

Our prius is 13 yrs old and the fan of the heat/ac broke. We had it replaced at the dealer and also had them replace the cabin airfilter. Since then, whenever we use the fan (heat or AC), we've been getting fumes in the car, a gas smell (even when there are no cars in front of us, so it's not from other cars). We brought it back to the dealer twice and they have not fixed it. They found a hole in the exhaust system and replaced the muffler etc. My questions:

1) Is there a way to measure the air quality in the cabin and find out what fumes are coming in and how dangerous they are?
2) What could it be and how can we finally get it fixed.
