It seems like the rear camera has suddenly started to point down more that it used to. We have three Prius's and none of the older one are like this. The dealer tells me he hears this problem all day long and there is nothing he can do about it.

For a project I started, I need to remove the plastic cover from the inside of the hatch. I think many people did that to install a rear view camera. Looking for pictures, simple instructions set, or a reference to a repair manual that would clearly explain how to do that.
View 7 RepliesI got in, stepped on the brake pedal and press the power button. Then the Prius ICE started, it started clanging and violently shaking the entire car. The clanging was sounded like metal on metal or something, it was loud and it was like the engine was seizing up. I stepped outside and the whole front end was buckling up and down. From my perspective, it seemed like the car wanted to lurch forward if I didn't have the parking brake engaged. I had Park engaged and also the parking brake on. I thought it would go away but it persisted. I turned off the car and immediately restarted. When the ICE started the 2nd time it felt a bit rough but finally the clanging noise went away. I didn't have time to look on my scanguage for any codes during the event. Did this cause any permanent damage?
View 18 RepliesOur 2010 Prius has about 57K miles on it (mostly highway and rural commuting). The rear brakes just started to make some noise the other day at low speeds. It sounds like a light metallic squeal, similar to a brake pad wear indicator. It only occurs at low speeds and in reverse. Last time I checked the pads, they had lots of life, but that was in the spring.
I'd like to take apart the brakes to service them, but I don't know if this is a DIYer job on a Pruis. I have tons of experience on auto repairs, and have done hundreds of brake jobs (I also perform auto restoration as a hobby and have done almost every type of mechanical work on a car). So I am not really worried about my skill, but I am worried about knowing the proper procedure to do the repairs on a Pruis.
So today I was doing the 40K mile service on my 2013 Gen3. When I finished I noticed that the front jack point was kind of crushed looking. I don't think I did it this time, but I have no doubt that I'm the one that did it. The question I have is, why is that the recommended jacking point if it crushes like a beer can. I've always used a quality floor jack, so I don't understand. I'm attaching a pic. If there a better place to jack it up from?
View 2 RepliesI bought a used 2006 Prius Package 7 from an estate sale with only 37k miles not too long ago. The car was serviced regularly and looks brand new. It now has 39k miles and is due for an oil change in a week or so.
I have been having some problems with the reverse camera yesterday and today. I was so happy with the Prius until this issue.
Yesterday morning, when going in reverse, I saw a black screen with some faint outlines of the objects behind me with a moving vertical ribbon bar moving left to right. After turning the car on and off a few times and driving about 15 miles to work, it started working again!
It was great... until tonight. After accidentally overfilling the car at the pump (not going to that station again), the camera had an issue again. Same thing. Drove 15 miles home and turned the car on/off a few times...along with checking reverse mode a few times along the drive while at stop lights...and it still didn't work.
Is there any way I could check to see if the connection is loose? I've seen threads for modding the Prius and all, but I honestly just want the car to function as normal. Any easy way to access camera connection? Would like to diagnose if it is the camera or a connector.
I'm a new SoCal resident, so I don't know any of the cheap maintenance shops yet, but I figured if it's simple...I may just do it myself! Also, I live close to the beach. Would that make a difference on my Prius? My car just gets more dirty with dust/sand during some periods.
I don't think the overfilled gas tank correlates with the reverse camera. But needless to say, I have had better days with my "new" Prius. Been getting 45mpg steadily
Started the 07 prius this morning: No dash (Can't see speed or gears) lights, Rear Camera not working, and the "Current Mpg" reads blank. Also had trouble turning the car off...
I'm hoping it's just a fuse problem.
My backup camera seems to have all of a sudden lost its aim such that the alignment marker is higher on the right than it is on the left meaning that the edge of the bumper is higher on the right as well. It just happened all of a sudden and seems to be pointed a little to the left. Any way to adjust it or is this one for the 5K mile checkup?

Having just taken delivery of a pip I am wondering if there is any way to turn on the rear view camera when you are moving forward? It would actually provide better vision over the rear view mirror.
View 12 RepliesI just had a Safesight micro flush mount camera installed in my Prius 2010 (purchased from Mobile Electronics). I had it installed with a manual switch so that it is either on or off according to my whim. Unfortunately, at this point, the camera seems to add to - rather than subtract from - backing up risks due to spatial distortion and pinpoint representations of objects directly in back of my car.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 Toyota Prius with ~250,000 miles. Yesterday I was driving and the vehicle started to "stutter" and the warning lights came on. My ScanGauge indicated code P3125. I drove normally for 2-3 miles and parked for a bit. When I returned, I was able to start up and drive home with no problems (about 20 miles of highway and stop & go traffic), and drove most of this morning, but around noon it happened again and this time the vehicle would hardly move at all. It had no reverse and I had to push it out of the parking spot. I managed to limp home and park it.

(while I'm sitting in the passenger seat of course). Better yet - is there a way to tap into the backup cam so I can record directly from that while driving forward? Is there a 'finger dance' I can do to allow this and override the fact that it automatically shuts off while in Drive? I have a 2007 (2nd gen Prius)...
View 7 RepliesJust purchased 2010 lll w/ Nav and backup cam. Although the cam works fine it doesn't show a grid. I drove a 2008 w/ cam and that did show a grid. The salesman stated some camera's did show it and others don't.

Checking my garage before going to bed last night and hear motorized humming coming from rear of the GX. I slide underneath and it seems to be coming from the spare tire area. I started the engine, then shut it off and the noise went away. The noise reminded me of the air suspension pump on my old Denali, but my Gx has the standard suspension.
View 2 Replies'88 K1500 350 with the Holley 670cfm TBI. Last year this truck started intermittently running rich to the point of stalling while at idle. I replaced the coolant temperature sensor and it ran fine, for a while. After a few months the same issue returned during cold weather but seemed to resolve this spring when things turned warm. Now the engine is really running rich all the time. I checked the CTS and got 2400 Ohms cold and 270 Ohms hot which isn't far form what I found as to be in spec. If I disconnect the CTS the truck runs better (idles up some) and does not appear to be running as rich but still not right. There are no codes in the computer and the O2 sensor was also replaced not that long ago.

View 19 RepliesJust got the 2012 Prius in June and have put around 12,500 miles on it. I have loved the car so much but last Wednesday night I came out of work and the car would not start. Thinking maybe it was just the 12v battery I called Toyota care. After attempting to have it jumped it still would not start. It was towed to the dealership located in Carlstadt, NJ. It has been over a week now and they still have not been able to fix it! They say they have run a diagnostic test on it and nothing comes back fine but they still can’t get it on. They say they are now testing each wire individually.
View 6 RepliesUp until this morning I thought I had almost a perfect car with a potential of lasting for 10 years but this morning, while I was driving on a local road with 35-40mph, so suddenly my car stopped moving and I couldn't even pull over as it completely stopped with no error or any warning/alerts! So, I turned it off and on again, it started working but I was still nervous if it would happen to me again while driving on a freeway but it didn't and I have made to work safely.
Now a question is should I bring it to the dealer today and have them run their diagnostics on their computer to see if anything is wrong with the car engine/ battery/ or anything else or should I just reboot it like we do for computers and go on everytime it happens? It's just little scary to think of its happening during a busy highway driving! I have driven it since July and has about 14K and I have had a good MPG of anywhere between 50 to 60.
