Just purchased 2010 lll w/ Nav and backup cam. Although the cam works fine it doesn't show a grid. I drove a 2008 w/ cam and that did show a grid. The salesman stated some camera's did show it and others don't.

View 6 RepliesAll of the backup camera systems I have seen (which are in Chevys) have superimposed guidelines on the camera view to align the vehicle into the proper spot between the parking lot markings. I road tested a 2014 RX350 with Nav system (with backup camera) the other day and it did not have these guidelines. It just showed a nice rear view picture but offered no assistance in aiming or aligning the vehicle when backing into the parking spot.
Is it just possible the guidelines were turned off in the Nav menu somehow? On the other brand cars, the guidelines actually curve as the steering wheel is turned -so you can use those line to perfectly back into a space. It would be a big oversight IMO if Lexus didn't build this guidance feature into their backup system.
I was in a rear accident - and I took my 2012 Prius to my local body shop can to fix the rear frame.
During their repair - since they were replace the outer rear frame - they had to remove and reinstall the right rear quarter window panel of the car - the one with what looks like defroster grids.
When I got the car back - I noticed some of the grid lines were a little worn out.
So, What exactly do these grid lines do - are they defrosters? They have it only the right side of the window - the left side of the window doesn't have any grids.
For the past 2 days, when I press the button to start my Prius after it's been in the garage all night (mid 40s-50s temp), I'll get only the seat belt light displayed - or the seat belt light then the others will slowly fade in! And sometimes the entire "Hybrid System" indicator display doesn't show up at all. And it won't start or, if it does, won't shut off.
If it does start, and I drive then park and turn it off, when I go to start it after just a few minutes, say at the grocery store, everything comes on fine.
My backup camera stopped turning on when I put the car in reverse. Why? I'm thinking it might be a fuse issue, but I can seem to figure out which fuse from the information in the manual.
View 9 RepliesI recently (two weeks ago, actually) bought a one owner clean car fax 2007 Prius with 125k after totaling my 2004 - I got the 04 cheap enough that the payout covered the new one. The car ran perfectly; quiet, no whining or grinding noises, etc. About a week ago, the check engine light came on. The next day, I got in it to drive to school. I get to the middle of my campus and it starts to lag (very similar to the way my 04 did when it needed a new hybrid battery cell). I pull over and turn the car off and back on since that used to be what would get me home in the 04.
Every single warning light came on, including the master one. My "BRAKE" warning light is also on even though the e-brake is not. The car would not show "ready" and would go into park, but if I tried to shift into anything else, it would pop into neutral. (The dash as of now is shown below.) This is not user-error. I have driven a 2nd gen Prius before, I know about pressing the brake down when you start it. The garage I had to get it towed to has no idea what to do with it and each Toyota dealership I called told me that they hadn't heard of before.
I bought a new 12V and the garage said it didn't make a difference, but I'm not entirely convinced they even tried it.
Something strange happened the other evening while driving. I'll just lay down the facts: I picked up my kid from class. When we got in the Prius there was a song I turned it down kind of fast.
It had rained earlier and there was a puddle at the curb. I slowly went through it and into traffic and accelerated. The music stopped and I looked at the display. The back up camera was on and I was looking at the road moving behind me. It flashed a few times then went black.
I pulled over and turned off the car. Turned it back on and all has been OK since. Just weird that it would do that all by itself.
I didn't "blast" through the water.
what turns on the back up camera,, the computer, the back up light relay or the transmission selector?

View 1 RepliesIn my 2009 standard prius, the back up camera often, maybe 50% of the time, is just black. It has some scrolling look, and sometimes i can see a faint image of whats there. The warning text on the screen is still there, and I am positive the is plenty of light, and nothing blocking the camera.
Its almost as if the TV rabbit ears need some adjustment. Flickery images, images literally scrolling left to right, etc. Other times, its perfect. Where do i start? loose wires somewhere?
I have slightly over 1000 on my new Prius and have been resetting the Trip Counter A at the last couple fill-ups. But the display doesn't show the MPG. How can this be fixed?
View 4 RepliesI'm driving so we all know what that means. Useless nav. So I decide to give the voice recognition a try just for the heck of it, since I know my garmin will give me the answer I need within seconds. So I ask the nav to find nearest ATM. It understood me perfectly, but NO MATCHES FOUND! Really. No atms?
The garmin came up with at least 10 matches within a mile of where I was (which was downtown Orlando Florida btw, not like I'm in the middle of some unpopulated desert or something.) So far I have not.
I didn't run over any nuns or children while I was using the garmin either. The speed lockout crap pipes me off to no end, but I guess it's irrelevant now that I know that the nav is completely non functional anyways. Looking forward to seeing what after market navs will be compatible with 2012's. The only thing of interest I have seen on that screen is the 30 minute mpg bar-graph which I would gladly live without for a working system though.
So I'm doing a 24hour test drive on a 2014 Prius Two that may be replacing my 2007 Prius Touring (aka Package 5) that has a failing hybrid battery and so far I'm happy. I miss having a backup camera and premium audio but at $17000 I don't want to pay any more. Right now I just have a simple question... how do I show the energy monitor on the dash (top screen)? I even downloaded the manual but when I press the Display button on the steering wheel the only thing I can get to is "SETTINGS 3.11.16". I went into settings but didn't find anything that stood out... so I'm lost already...

1. My battery icon is never totally full. Does that last bar ever show up? I doubt it's an issue, but figure if the charge is low now....
2. I've filled four times, and each time the computer shows mileage about 5% better than the actual purchase of gas calculates out. So I'm wondering if the calculation is a little high, of if my gas station is "a little off." I plan to use a few gas stations and compare the results.
My backup camera seems to have all of a sudden lost its aim such that the alignment marker is higher on the right than it is on the left meaning that the edge of the bumper is higher on the right as well. It just happened all of a sudden and seems to be pointed a little to the left. Any way to adjust it or is this one for the 5K mile checkup?
View 4 RepliesI just had a Safesight micro flush mount camera installed in my Prius 2010 (purchased from Mobile Electronics). I had it installed with a manual switch so that it is either on or off according to my whim. Unfortunately, at this point, the camera seems to add to - rather than subtract from - backing up risks due to spatial distortion and pinpoint representations of objects directly in back of my car.
