I just noticed a whine in my steering when turning right and left on my 2010 SE. Sounds like I am out of power steering fluid but I checked the level and it looks fine. No signs of a leak.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2004 Santa Fe 3.5L with 85K miles. TB, WP and all belts changed at 75K. Have had this whine noise when I turn right, very high pitch noise. On top of this there is now Power Steering fluid leaking from the reservoir and base and brackets are full of fluid... Needless to say I assume it is the reservoir seals giving up but why the noise only when I turn right? No noise when I turn left.
What could it be? Also where can I find parts online that are cheaper than the stealership? I called them and they quoted me $72.00 for this piece of plastic!!
What else should I change? There is also some "oil/fluid" coming down a pressure hose but I believe this is due to the oil dripping from the reservoir...
Any manuals I could use to view this? I bought the Haynes manual and it's worthless!
I noticed over the last week that there was a pretty loud whine associated with turning the steering wheel. I checked the fluid level and it didn't seem low. I added a touch just to make sure. Took it into the dealership today and they called back and told me there's a bunch of fluid on the bottom splash pan. They haven't said what the culprit is yet. 46k miles on the car.
View 6 RepliesMy 2006 santa fe drives great,,,except now it makes a low squeaky noise when parking and turning the steering left or right...it does not make that noise while driving at any speed in a line or on bumps...the strut top plates? can i just grease that?
View 2 RepliesI've got what seems to be a fairly common problem in that my power steering on my 2001 SF gives off a steady whine. I've read in several posts that removing the power steering reservoir and either replacing it or cleaning out the screen solves the problem. I'm ready to give that a shot, but can't seem to figure out how to remove the part. There is a "tab" type of thing on the back of it, but it doesn't seem to do the trick. I'm admittedly no mechanic, but this seems like it should be relatively easy. How to remove the reservoir?
View 6 RepliesMy 2007 Santa Fe when making a hard left turn into a parking spot feels like the tires are grabbing and lurching. Not sure if this is a worn cv axle on the right side or an issue with the AWD never happens on a right hand turn.
View 2 RepliesI have a 01 santa fe 2.7 motor. I have read several threads in here regarding the famous pump whine. my pump is making a whine at idle, I have cleaned the bottle and made sure the screen has not restrictions, drained all the fluid, and have inspected the lines for leaks.
With a stethoscope have pin the noised to the pump, the noise travels in the reservoir when I race the engine the noise is more evident on the bottle. I am tempted to replace the pump, but the steering has no issues and operates fine, also no change in the whine noise when moving left to right.
2001 F350 XL... Fitting on PS pump broke and I lost PS and PB with fluid everywhere. Replaced the hose with a new one from Autozone and I have no noticeable leaks.
I know I lost more than a quart but I could only add less than a quart (Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF). I'm also getting a whine from the steering wheel when I turn stop to stop. The power steering is back and there are no leaks (that I see) but the brake pedal is mushy. I've pumped and turned stop to stop for a while. Do I have to bleed the system like I'm doing a fluid flush? I hate to waste the synthetic fluid that I changed about two years ago.
My 2007 Camry makes clunking noises when I turn the steering wheel to the left mostly. This happens most often when the weather is warm and hot but not during the winter time.
The noise seems to come only from around the steering wheel area inside my vehicle. Hence, I don't think it has to do with the CV Joints or anything like that but the steering wheel unit.
I am a recent new owner of an 06 f350 Powerstroke. Steering Box developed a leak so I decided to replace the box and go ahead and do the pump and hoses while at it. Pump would make some noise so i figured I'd just do it all and be done with it or so I thought. The job was a pain, much harder than the pump and boxes i've done on the older 7.3 powerstroke.
Anyways, used all OEM components (pump was a rebuilt rotorcraft, can't buy new anymore) and everything seemed great for about a day. I tried to bleed the air out per standard practice of turning the wheels with the truck off the ground. At startup and during the first day it had almost no noise at all and the steering felt much easier than the old pump.
Then the pump started to develop the standard annoying ford power steering whine that I hear all the time. Drove it over the weekend on a 160 mile trip and the noise just kept getting worse. As of tonight I can't turn the wheel if the truck is stopped even with my foot off the brakes.
I used synthetic ATF for fluid and there is absolutely no foam or aeration in the reservoir. Good news is I don't have any leaks but the bad is I now don't have power steering. It does make a much louder whine or squeak when I hit a large bump turning, I guess that's just the sound of the pump being stressed more. I am guessing the pump just crapped out but before I do it all over again.
I own a 2007 GX470. It has suddenly developed a loud whine. We replaced the power steering fluid (which we were told was filthy) but the whine is still there. The mechanic has suggested we drive it for about 500 miles to see if the noise disappears. I'm not crazy about driving it with the loud noise but don't mind. He says the car is safe to drive.
View 4 RepliesOur '07 Santa Fe (3.3 L) has began making a terrible noise when turning the steering wheel. It is a deep, whining screeching noise that seems to come from the front passenger side of the car. It isn't a metal-on-metal sound, but is similar to the sound my old skid-steer loader used to make at work when the hydraulics were going out. It also seems to be worse when turning right.
At first I thought it was the power steering pump, but looking at some diagrams online it appears that the pump is to the rear of the motor.
The wife says that the sound seems to get worse after it rains. Saturday she drove into Austin to run some errands and when she got back home the sound was really loud. I drove it into town and after a while the noise went away. She says that the sound has returned, but not as bad as it was this weekend.
I'm beginning to notice a high pitched whine when I first start up my 2008 LS600hL and turn the wheel slightly (like backing out of my garage). It almost sounds like the beginning of a power steering pump problem, but I think our power steering systems on the LS are electric.

I have a UK 2006 Mk2 CDX+ which I was driving last night - seemed ok, got to our driveway, turned the steering wheel fully left so I could manoeuvre the car into the driveway when I heard a loud "clunk" noise.
I thought I ran over a bottle or something so carried on reversing, when I got out I noticed the car was parked diagonally! Thought this is strange, I don't park like that and tried again, a bit better but still not parallel! I then noticed the steering wheel was hard to turn, a grinding like noise is heard when I turned so I decided I would need to take into the local in the morning.
Started the car today and drove out and got immediate sensation that steering was not connected to the wheels, the SW was off centre by miles and turning left/right was very sluggish. Lucky the garage is only down the road (but it's not Hyundai specialist) from me as I would not risk driving it down main roads in this condition. Guy at garage asked me to fully turn the SW left to right and we can see that the front of the car actually moved during the process. He is going to take it up on the lift to look underneath.
Have an 03 Escape / 3.0 and the steering catches when turning left. Steering wheel jerks. Replaced the pump about 2 mo. ago and seemed to work, but now it is back. Is there something else I should look at?

View 5 RepliesSo recently, my car started making whining noises upon turning the steering wheel during cold starts. Now, it does it when the car is warmed up too. From what I can hear, its only during slow speeds. Can't take my car to the dealership anymore cause they will charge me $140 diagnostic fee for whatever issues I'm having due to my car being "tampered" with previously. (It's all stock now).
View 4 RepliesHave a moderate pitch whine in front end only when steering or turning to right. Gets louder w higher speeds but pitch is about the same. Thought it was a left front wheeling bearing. Also needed new pads and rotor. While doing the job noticed grease all over the lower ball jt. Discovered a tear in the outer axle boot. Net net replaced pads, rotor, axle hub assembly and axle complete. To my chagrin the noise has changed one bit. The noise also doesn't change when I put the car in neutral while traveling downhill. With the hope that I replaced the wrong bearing I have ordered a new one for the right passenger side. When I tried the 6-12 wheel rocking test on the right there did not appear to be any looseness.

View 3 RepliesWhine that I am getting coming up from below the gear stick ,is certainly seems that it is a noisy bearing as noise stops when car does so I think it may be the bearing mounted in the rear of the casing/gearbox just in front of the rubber coupling but the dealer cant seem to find it in his parts list.
