I have a 96' 1500ec with 5.7L and auto trans. I have been fighting an ongoing code of multiple misc. cyl. misfire. I noticed a hesitation only when I start out in first gear, once it shifts or if I start out in second it's smooth. I have 138,000 on the odometer. Code-0300 with the mmcm , how about timing, distributor or stretched timing chain?

View 1 Replies1996 GMC Sierra SL V6. Owned since new. 100,000 miles, never tuned up. I decided to get a tune up in hopes of increasing mpg, and it was overdue really. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Got truck back and it runs rough, knocking, skipping, hesitating, bogging down when trying to accelerate, rough idle. Went from 15.5 mpg, down to about 14 mpg. They said they put in all AC Delco parts. Brought it back to them twice now and they cannot figure out the problem. It ran PERFECTLY before I send it in for a tune up. No problems whatsoever.
View 2 RepliesI went out to my 96 gmc k1500 this morning after auto-starting about 10 minutes before to let a/c cool the cab. It was running fine but when I got in I noticed the battery light was on and the electrical gauge was topped out past 19 into the orange. I turned the key into the "on" position and when I hit the brake pedal to put it into gear the engine started surging and then dieing down, back and forth (approx. between 500 and 1500 rpm) until it just finally died (lasted about 20-40 sec.). Ignition was still in "on" position but the electrical gauge returned to normal.
Tried starting it again and electrical gauge jumped right back up and battery light was still on but the engine didn't start surging again until I hit the brake pedal just like before. I'm going to guess my alternator/voltage regulator needs to be replaced but beyond that what else it could be. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I've managed to make minor repairs over the years myself following the Chiltons or Haynes manuals. I have a Hanyes manual for this vehicle but the troubleshooting section doesn't cover my problem specifically.
I have a 1996 escort wagon with strange auto transmission behavior. Sometimes during the summer months but mostly during the winter; the transmission will start off in 3rd gear from a stop and won't go any higher or lower. If I drive it around for a while, it will suddenly shift into 4th then the transmission will act normally for a while then for no reason will just suddenly start off in 3rd gear from a dead stop. It has been doing this for about 8 months now. 146k miles. I have tried shifting through all the gears manually. It will drop down into first when I put the lever there, but when I move the lever back up into drive, it goes right back into 3rd.

Recently I downshifted into fourth to go up a hill and I had a sudden loss of power and a rough ride like I had a flat tire. The harder I press the gas the rougher the ride and it idles almost normally. The check engine light came on and blinks 12 times.

I'll be driving and all the sudden it will jerk as if it's shifted from 5th to 1st gear, but the revs don't go up, they drop to about 600 like it is about to die and then it go back to normal revs. It only does this while I'm on the gas and very rarely at idle. I don't know if it could be the transmission or something is blocking fuel from the engine.

The truck ran great up to a couple days ago. My father in law was driving it and he said he started it, put in gear to drive off and it just died. It will not start now. The fuel pump is priming when you first turn the key. I haven't had a chance to look at it, but my FIL said he pulled a couple plug wires and there is no spark.
I've been doing some reading online and I've seen bad crank sensor as a good possibility. Is this a common problem? I'm not wanting to sink a ton of money into this truck with its mileage.
I have a 99' GMC 1500 Sierra SLT w/5.3 Vortec V-8 w/460,000 miles (yup !!) I bought the p/u w/59,000 miles, and the gear-selection lever on the column has always been hard to move when selecting gears. My daughter drives the p/u, and is hard for her to select gears.
View 1 RepliesI have a 92 2wd with a 5.7 and it keeps getting way to hot. I have changed the water pump, Thermostat (fail safe), and heater core and had the entire system flushed. and it is still getting really hot. If is is in park it does not get hot, but when i put it in gear it gets over the half way mark in just a couple minutes. I have noticed that it has an after market transmission cooler to me it looks to small for a my truck it is a 12in square and 3/4in thick. The radiator has the holes for the Transmission lines but they have been pluged off. Should I go back to a factory setup and flush the lines or upgrade the size of the cooler? and is there a way for me to flush the transmission lines myself?

2013 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax Diesel.
A friend of mine has had this 2000 Sierra since new. It has just over 100K and never had any cooling issues before. Last week when it was about 10 below zero she drove it home and it overheated and pumped a couple quarts of antifreeze overboard.
She refilled it the next day and it was fine but got it looked at by a local independent mechanic. I had told her that it was likely a sticky thermostat and it ought to be changed out anyways due to its age. The mechanic thought I was wrong and that she had driven it off to quickly in the super cold weather.
My grandson keep his 93 GMC K1500 w/5.7L auto running till he gets out of college. The problem is the engine stalls (sometimes) when put into gear (D or R) and more often when the lights and heater blower are turned on. There were two codes in the pcm (42 & 43) both referring to ignition problems. We did a tune up and erased the codes. After driving the truck for a week the pcm has no codes but the engine still stalls. We cleaned the IAC pintel and seat thinking there might be an air control problem, no luck. The repair manual mentioned ignition advance as a problem particularly the ESC. The manual says this part is on the side of the throttle body but we can not find it.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2001 GMC Sierra with a starting problem: When you've driven it long enough for the engine to reach about 210 degrees, if you stop the truck it won't start back up until the engine has cooled down to about 200. It only does this when it's over 80 degrees outside, though.
View 5 Replies95 GMC Sierra 1500. My truck cranks, but it won't start. If I push on the gas it delivers fuel and kind of starts, but it dies out immediately. I considered it to be a fuel pump issue at first, but I had my fuel pump replaced about a year ago so I do not think that is the problem, but I am not sure what else it could be. I am looking for some troubleshooting steps so I can narrow down the issue and get my hands dirty working on my truck.
View 4 RepliesI recenty replaced the upper intake manifold gasket on my gmc sierra 1500 350 motor. In the process I did plugs and wires and power steering pump. I went through everything and cleaned it to perfection and put it together. It started like a dream and took it for a test burn out in the country. About 15 miles down the road I shut it down and went through all the fluids and upon starting I noticed it was really hard starting. Kinda like it had alot of compression. I just replaced the battery 2 month ago with the best Interstate battery they had and it still checks out good.
Every time I went to start it cold it started normal but when warm it had the same hard starting issue. Well a week later I stopped at the store before work and it did the same but then just rested to a stop and now the starter just clicks every time I turn the key. I can turn the motor over by hand with a wrench and all battery connection are good. I just put a new starter in today thinking that may have been a fluke of a deal but nothing still. I did see when I first tried the new starter that the pulley on the alternator was trying to spin over ever so slowly tell it quit again.
I have a 350 throttle body injection 3/4 ton 87 Sierra with 107K miles that runs great but when I shut it off it won't start again! Starts right up when it's cold but I have to wait about 2 hours before it will start again once its been started. Turns over just fine. I recently replaced the coil but that didn't do the trick. Is there some kind of sensor or switch that could be heating up?
View 4 RepliesThis engine will not start unless we dump gas into carburetor. Changed the fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel regulator. At the shraeder valve we are getting 20psi. I hear that it only needs to be at 10-12psi to run. What else is controlling fuel to being dumped into the engine!
View 3 RepliesSo i just noticed this issue the other day. If I downshift from 6th to 5th the car hesitates before it starts to accelerate, this only happens for 5th every other gear is fine. This only happens downshifting from 6th to 5th. What is going on?

I believe the main thing I needed to do was get the dealer to "re-flash" the system? I just need some expertise on this so I could tell the dealer what I need done, because I do not have an educated dealer to take this car to.....not their fault, they never have seen a Phaeton hardly.
View 1 RepliesI have an 03 Sierra Half Ton when the engine is warm it runs fine but at cold start, half the time it doesn't have the fuel pressure to start, i have to turn the key a couple times to build it up. Idk if the fuel pump is weak for if it would be more the regulator. I started having this problem after i replaced the fuel pump. The fuel pressure gauge shows 50-55 lbs, but every now and then when its cold it will only jump to around 5 lbs (but this is only when the engine is cold... why?) What should i go after first? Regulator, new pump, Replace the fuel filter again?
