Huge problem. Everything was fine the first couple of times I drove today.
Tonight, when I was getting in the car, it turned on. I tried to change it from Park, but it just stuck and wouldn't move and let me change at all, even down to reverse. It's just stuck in park.
What is wrong with it? What's stuck, and what can I do to get it unstuck? Or else, I'd have to get it towed because it won't budge from park
I have a 2003 camry LE and for the last few days I am having issues changing gears. I hit the brakes and the gears wont change from park. I can sometimes get it to work by hitting the brakes harder or pumping the brakes.
View 2 RepliesMy 2009 Sonata, 2. 4 L engine, base model with automatic transmission started up and ran OK, but 20 minutes later when I parked the car and shifted towards Park the gears grinded in neutral, stopped grinding in Reverse, and then grinded again when I made it to Park, and I quickly turned off the engine.
When I restarted, it grinded in Park, OK past Reverse, Grinded in Neutral, and then OK in Drive. How serious this is, or if there is anything I can check out on my own?
2009 Sonata, 4 Cylinder, Auto. 80K mileage, runs well.
I have noticed intermittently that when shifting either out of park to drive, or drive to park that the starter begins grinding as if it is being engaged. The last few times I have jiggled the key and this stopped it.
Googled and found some folks saying it might be the ignition switch selector but am really unsure right now.
Today I was going to wash my car and rolled my driver's window down on the way there. When I got to the car wash I attempted to roll my driver's side window back up. It nudged ever so slightly up about a quarter inch and then nothing. It had totally stopped. I fiddled with the switch and it would go back down completely but when attempting to roll the window back up it would sometimes not move at all, move ever so slightly or move just about a quarter of an inch and stop. Is it possible to just get the window up manually in order to at least block the elements? I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should do. I'm tempted to run to the drug store and grab some packing tape to seal the window off.
View 8 RepliesThis is what’s wrong with my 1998 Honda CR-V manual transmission. When it’s off, the gear stick works normally. However, when I start the car, the gear stick gets stuck and won’t move to change gears. It happened before a couple times and if I warmed the car up for about 10 minutes it worked normally again, and normally the next time I drove it. However, this morning, the gear shift would not work even after warming it up, except when the car was turned off.

Truck is stuck in Park, cant get it out. Tire Pressure Monitor Failure warning is blinkings as is the low tire pressure light. Emergency Brake light stays on, EM brake is not engaged. No Electrical working, lights, radio, AC.. I don't know what is going on with it...
View 2 RepliesMy 2007 elantra has been rumbling when i change gears occasionally and sometimes when stopping at a stop sign the car just dies. The car starts right up though as if nothing happened. It only happens like twice a week but i really want it fixed. I already changed the motor mount next to the engine block on the left. Could it be the motor mount connecting to the transmission?
View 1 RepliesI've had an issue twice with the truck stuck in park. Both times I pulled battery cables and it reset itself. This time is different; the truck is stuck in park, the chime doesn't work when you open the door, the screen flashes tire pressure monitor fault and the traction control light blinks on and off. Not only that, the radio does not work, nor does the heat/air. I've got to believe with that many things its the body control module gone bad? Truck is a 2010 crew cab with the 5.4 btw...
View 14 RepliesMy father has a 2009 Ford F-250 Superduty with the 5.4l V8. Two days ago, he frantically woke me up from a nap because he could not get the truck out of park nor are the brake lights turning on when the pedal is pressed. I instantly thought Shift Interlock, did a quick google search and found that it can be the shift interlock or brake light switch on the brake pedal. I have since then replaced both to no avail as well as checking all fuses. I put a multimeter to the brake light switch connector and am getting a steady 10.2v. I am aware there is a bypass switch but that doesn't address the fact that he has no brake lights.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2009 Santa Fe and last night, out of the blue, the engine wouldn't start. The shift lever was stuck in park and the brake pedal was very stiff and wouldn't move much. I popped the cap off the shift lock and moved it to neutral at which time the car started without a problem. I could drive but shifting was difficult and the lever didn't really click into a gear. I noticed that when shifting gears. the indicator on the dash would change from N to D and to R in reverse but when I moved up to park, the indicator went blank and the lever locked up again and had be released manually. I also noticed when I got home, since my driveway is a slope, that when the car seemed to be in park is rolled down the driveway, so I had to engage the emergency brake.
View 13 Replies1992 Buick Park Avenue, Base. For awhile now I've had trouble shifting into park from other gears. Sometimes, it'll flow right into park without trouble. Other times, I have to work it, to kind of baby it in. However, it simply will not shift into park from reverse. Period. If I'm in reverse and want to park, I have to go into drive, neutral, etc, and then try to move it into park.
A mechanic I know looked at the neutral safety switch and thought it could be causing the problem. We figured it wasn't in the steering column or the cable to the switch because if we disconnect the cable, you can slide that lever all day long. So I purchased a new neutral safety switch and had him install it, but the same problem is there. Actually, let me clarify: while it was in his garage, with the old switch, it would no longer go into park at all, regardless (kind of decided to just stop altogether). At least with the new switch we can baby it into park, but it is basically back to where it was last week. He mentioned it might be deeper in the transmission, but that's out of his league.
2006.5 Kia Optima stuck in park and indicator shows R for Reverse. The car roles as if in neutral. Since the car thinks it is in Reverse, I assume this is why the car will not start even though the shifter itself is in Park.
View 5 RepliesMy 2009 Ford Escape shift lever is stuck, not allowing me to shift out of park without using the manual override. However, when I slam my foot to the brake (rather than simply stepping on the brake), the brake switch relay, etc. all engage and I am able to shift out of park. Is this a brake switch relay problem, or is it possible that it has to do with the age of my brakes, etc?
View 3 RepliesI have a Sonata 08. I have recently installed a 740W amp and HID lights. During the Winter everything worked fine with just the amp. I then decided to install HIDs. I have a relay and a capacitor on them. but I have a weird power problem. Sometimes when I have my AC running the engine shuts off when I turn on my lights. It feels like a surge. I have to restart the car. Also while the AC runs the car feels a little shaky like it is switching gears while parked. What's going on?
View 25 RepliesThe shifting in my Hyundai Sonata 2009 Limited V6 is horrible, having issues with shifting such as a hard jerk from 1st to 2nd when car changes gears driving. It feels like it is pulling back when the car changes into 3rd gear oh and you can forget trying to go uphill. It is completely horrendous it is shifting always up to 3000+ rpms struggling to make it uphill. Any way to achieve a smoother shift and also towards the uphill thing.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 f150 fx4 4x4. I drove it home from work yesterday and it ran and drove just fine. I got up this morning to go to work and turn the key but the engine won't fire. I turns over just fine. I turn the key to release the trans to put it in neutral to see if it would start like that and the shifter is stuck. I button in the front will not go in. I tried lifting the rear tires off the ground to see if I could free the trans.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 F250 V10 that has this issue most of the time but not all the time. Start her up, foot on brake and the shifter wont move. I use the bypass method to get her moving when this happens. It seems to be doing it more often lately. Also I recently has a cruise control issue. Hit the brake to shut it off and it doesn't stop it! Not sure if the 2 are related. The internet said I need to replace the switch on the master cylinder to fix the cruise control. I got lots of different stories on the park issue.

Every time I back out of my garage, I would obviously have it from Park to Reverse...when I put it in D from R....there is clunking noise right after the first gear...
It goes first gear, than this clanking noise then 2nd gear....It almost sounds like a motor mount? I hope its something not too bad as a mount.
It only happens when engine is cold and it seems to only happen that one time I go from 1 to 2 right after R..
It's sound like a grinding metal but real quick...like something crushing.
I have done ATF flush at 30, 60, and 90; the 90k was done just about two months ago.
Ok, So my car wont come out of park unless you do the manual override. I recently put a new battery in the car and accidentally put it on backwards. I was lucky enough not to burn the ECU as the car starts and still drives but the ABS and ESC lights are on along with the BRAKE light.
