So when I turn and am hard on the gas I get a clicking and slight clunking sound from the front end. Wants to confirm its the CV joints before I rip it apart?
View 6 RepliesHave a slight clunking sound in the front of elantra, only noticed it yesterday and is only there at start offs and is there in forward and reverse motions. May be more of a click like sound at times as well.
View 22 RepliesI have a 2006 hyundai sonata 3.3L V6. Only happens on a cold start. I'll start the car and it won't tick while at idle. But as I drive away ill hear it for maybe about 2 mins only maybe in first gear until the car slightly warms up and then it's gone completely.
View 30 RepliesI have owned this 2009 Sonata for a year now..in the past month whenever I am at a stop and go to drive (at slower speeds is when its noticed) you hear a slight click sound from the rear. I took it to a local fix it shop today and they said the sway bar link on the left rear side was bent (from a fender bender since repaired). Well this did not fix the issue. They also said my rear brakes have 30% wear left in them. Do you think for any reason this would be the clicking? The noise happens as well when Im backing out of my garage...at low speeds.
View 14 RepliesI have an 06 Sonata GLS with a clunking noise coming from the front end somewhere. I hear it when I drive over small cracks or bumps in the road, and when I jerk the car from side to side. I have just replaced the front struts, bearing plates, and sway bar links. I've checked the tie rods, ball joints, control arm bushings, etc.. Yet the noise still exists. After a recommendation from a Hyundai Tech, I even re-tighten the subframe bolts using loctite. I am completely lost at this point and do not know what to do to eliminate this annoying noise.
View 17 RepliesI have a 2005 NF V6 Sonata Elite - for some time now there has been a sporadic clunking noise in and around the suspension or front drivers side wheel of my car. It got a lot worse a week ago when I took the car off sealed roads for a short distance, almost sounding like a CV that had gone. However a mechanic checked the car over a few days ago and found the CV was fine, as was the driveline. It seems to clunk more when turning, and when I put the power on or off. I also detect a slight vibration or hum coming from the area concerned when taking gentle bends at moderate speed on smooth roads. I can assume the wheel bearings are fine, although the mechanic I went to perhaps isn't very familiar with the make/model of car. They went around the suspension and tightened some of the struts, which made a small improvement I think, but the car is still making the noise. What was the cause of the noise if known?
View 4 Replies 2008 Sonata 2.4L ... I have an issue, hopefully minor, but when I drive over bumps I hear a slight rattle in the front suspension. My first guesses are either a sway bar, struts, or tie-rods.
My second issue is the steering wheel isn't centered. Best way to describe it is if you draw a line dead center on the top of the wheel and remember that spot, when driving straight it's about an inch or two to the right.
When driving I hear, not feel, a slight thumping noise that if I had to guess would say is coming from the passenger side front. When I let off the gas the noise becmes more prominent and you can feel the thumping. Also when I apply the brakes heavily the sound/feel goes back to the same as if I was driving. I'm thinking CV joint/axles or spindle bearings, but I cant understand why the condition is at it's worst when I'm coasting. Has this "noise while coasting" problem.

Only taken this car on 2 highway road trips. 2 years ago = 34mpg on 900 mile trip (@36000 miles), last week = 31 mpg, EXACT same trip, this time in December, last time in September. Other difference - slightly perceptible tick noticeable if I stand in front of car idling.
Bought July 2009 (almost 24 months old) @ 32000 miles, oil changes every 3000 miles since, tranny fluid at 60000.
I just replaced rotors and pads on my 2007 Sonata. I got top of the line premium rotors and ceramic pads from Napa. Cleaned the oil off the rotors and gave them a light sanding before installing, made sure that the caliper bolts moved freely and the caliper pistons were not seized and also used new hardware kit (springs?) that came with the pads.
Everything seems to be ok, except for a clicking sound that occurs on hard breaking as the car is coming to a stop. I think its caused by the pads moving within its mounts (I did notice it was very easy to slide these pads into the mountings, more so than in previous pad replacements).
Reading from other posts I think this is still safe, but the clicking does bother me, should I use pad adhesive to stick the pads to the caliper?
So I just replaced the front rotors and brake pads on my 06 Sonata. Before I replaced them, the front passenger side had a clicking sound coming from it when I turned. So I thought this whole time that I needed a new CV joint. But after I replaced the rotors and pads I took it for a test drive and I noticed that the clicking noise was gone! So I guess my question is, can bad brake pads and rotors cause a clicking sound when turning?
View 4 RepliesI have a problem with the steering. Sometimes a clicking noise is coming out from the front left side when I sharply turn the wheels or hit the brake. The car was in a local garage today and they couldn't find the problem. 2 mechanics checked the suspension, cv joint, axle, wheel bearing... also 1 of them driven the car and found nothing. Tomorrow I show them the clip below.

What it could be?
I've been having a problem with a popping/clicking sound coming from my front end for some time now. 2 days ago I replaced the top strut mounts thinking they were worn and this was the source of my problem, however, the noise persists.I have raised the car and have tried to physically move the wheels, up, down, left, right, but I get no play in any direction.
When the sound happens: If I go over small bumps in the road, or depressions, or speed bumps at slow speed I hear what sounds like a metal on metal sound, but muffled, not a clang, but a pop sound. I can induce it by stepping hard on the brakes, as the car lurches forward I get the sound. After stopping, when the weight moves back again I get the sound again.HOWEVER, I do NOT get the sound from acceleration. I have tried putting on the parking break and trying to take off, but I don't get the sound. The sound is their wether or not I'm in gear.
What could this sound be? My possibilities include:T ie-Rods, Axles, Transmission (loose bolts), broken engine mounts, loose subframe, or perhaps my control arm bushings (but they were replaced with poly bushings about 30k miles ago)
I have a 2004.5 Jetta GLI 1.8T. 96K miles.
The sound just started a couple of weeks ago and is becoming more prominent. On cold starts (like in the morning or after sitting for a while), the front right of the car makes a repeated clicking/ clunking sound while in neutral. However, the second I apply any gas, the sound goes away. Only when my engine is idling at around 700-800 rpms does it make the sound. After driving the car around for about 10 minutes or so ("warming up"), the sound eventually goes away and comes back on the next cold start.
Yesterday, my ABS light came on and never went away. I have no idea if there's any relation. May be a separate issue. I've tried searching for a diagnosis with no luck. Thoughts on what I might be hearing?
I ask this because when on the hwy (60-70mph) you can feel some vibration in your hands. I can let the steering wheel go and it won't move a bit but when hands placed on it you can definitely feel the road, including bumps, and regardless of road conditions. Tires where balanced at 7500mi but it still happens. Regardless of temperature or PSI in the tire.
I thought we had electric/electronic steering and no hydraulics? Maybe unrelated but, when turning in my driveway, very slow, I can hear a slight clicking (maybe rubbing) noise coming from the steering wheel column. Everything else has to be silent to be able to hear it.
I purchased a brand new 2014 Sonata Limited 2 months ago and took it to the local dealer last night for two issues.
The first issue was small rust spots on the sillplate and the second is a very slight clicking noise I hear from the engine compartment now when I turn the temperature dial.
The dealer just called and said that the clicking is "normal". The car didn't do it for the first two months.
Have a 2012 Camry LE with about 12,000 miles on it. Lately the weather has been warmer so I'm driving with the window open and I've noticed a slight clicking sound coming from the front end (only when turning right) when going through a corner like an off ramp on on ramp. I tried tapping the brakes but that had no effect. It almost sounds like the brake scraper, but not as harsh. The original brake pads couldn't be worn out yet.

I wanted more exposure than that particular small viewed area.
I don't have a video of the noise, but my 99 f450 v10 5spd has some iffy noise coming from the front. I've read so many threads on this and they either end with "my motor had 1-2-3 bad pistons" or "my flexplate was cracked" and all that dealt with chain tensioners were never finished.
I know what piston slap sounds like (worked on many cobras and lightnings with forged pistons that had it) and have experience with bad wrist pins and broken piston skirts, and this noise doesn't sound like any of it.
Noise is a loud clicking/clunking/Detroit diesel idle noise. When you rev the engine up it doesn't lighten or get better, only worse as rpm goes up. Oil is terrible looking, I'll be getting that changed this week.
Story on truck. I've had this thing for 4 years with blown motor. I got a buddy that acquired a parts truck and he said it ran good. I dropped my truck off and he swapped the engine. I got my truck back running, but with this engine noise. He said it needs to get run some more and change oil.
I think it's timing tensioners, my buddy says it will come out of it, a mechanic friend says it's going to blow up "because they all do" and I don't really want to replace the engine again.
If it's tensioners, how big of a job is it. I have the cam clamps and crank stop and the ford tools to make sure crank and cams don't rotate while apart.
I'm just 650 miles from my truck and may need someone else to do the work. Which sucks.
So my '01 E350 has been fine but tonight when I went to start it I didn't get a WTS light and the SES light was on and there was a weird number on my PHP Hydra that looked like r5 ? This happened a few times back to back so I tried starting it and it just cranked and cranked. Wtf? So I started pushing the button on the chip and all of the sudden I got the WTS light and the hydra flashed, now the chip was on tune 10 instead of 5 where it was when I parked it. I should also note that during these episodes there was a fairly loud clicking/clunking sound coming from the drivers front under the hood when I toggle the key on.. Sounds like maybe a relay? Louder than I recall ever hearing.
View 5 RepliesSo about a month ago my 2013 Sonata GLS started to make some clunking noise going over the littlest bumps over the road from the front end on both right and left side.
I brought it to one mechanic and they said the rack and pinion needs replacing which is an expensive fix. I couldn't believe that was the problem as I had no leaks and it was on their solid. I ended up taking it to my uncles mechanic and he stated its the stabilizer links on the front right and front left wheels. My way to work has a lot of bad pot holes... so I'm hoping that the stabilizers are actually the problem.
Anyways, tomorrow I will be bringing it to the mechanic to have them both changed. I know a lot have been complaining about this issue and instead of replacing the rack and pinion, I thought I'd try and see if it actually is the stabilizer links and provide a fix for some of the sonata owners on here.
I have a 2006 Sonata V6 with 85,000 miles. A week ago, as I was making a sharp left turn into a parking space, there was a loud clunk clunk noise when I applied the brake and then it almost felt as though the brake pedal was slipping. I took it to a repair shop on Monday and they said I needed new front brakes and rotors. I said fine and had the work done. The clunk clunk noise is still there. There's no problem when I'm driving straight, in reverse or making a right turn, only the left.
