Today I noticed that the 12 volt power outlets on my 2011 Sonata shutoff when the vehicle shuts off. On my old car the cigarette lighter would shut off, but not the power outlet. Is there anyway to make them stay on when the car shuts off? It is nice to be able to leave my phone in the car to charge.
View 32 RepliesMy car has almost 93,000 miles on it. This has happened randomly three times over the past 2 months. While I'm driving the engine will rev up to about 3k-4k rpms and then the whole car will turn off. While its happening I can't accelerate. If I start the car immediately after it shuts off the engine will turn over normally but the same thing will happen. I'll try to accelerate and the rpm's will hang around 3k-4k and shut off again. However if I wait a couple of minutes and try to start the car it will start and run normally. It happened this weekend and before that maybe 3 weeks ago, all 3 times so far on my way home from work.
To clarify when the car shuts down, the engine and everything else shuts down as too, I do still get some warning lights on my dash. I don't remember 100% but I think it was the EPS light and the oil light. My car doesn't have any issues with burning oil, and I change the oil pretty often.
I've brought it to the dealership and they were unable to find a cause. They gave me my car back and said if it keeps happening to bring it back. I've been reading about the engine recalls and my car is one of the effected one's according to my vin number. However my engine doesn't make any weird noises. There is no clunking sound or banging while the car is running and if the car does shut off, I can still get it going again. The dealership said they tested for it and my car passed.
Before I start the car I will keep the AC switch to the on position. The car will start then shut down. If the AC switch is off before I start the car. It starts normal. Once I get the car started idle or driving I can turn the AC back on and it has zero problems. I took it to the dealer. They did a oil flush and was saying my oil was low due to late oil change. They ran a computer diagnostic and said nothing came up. What could this be?
View 3 RepliesI was driving my car on Sunday and twice within a span of 30-45 minutes the car stalled while I was driving and just shut off. I had driven 70-80 miles earlier in the day without stopping, and after about an hour, went back out to run some errands. After a light turned green, I proceeded through the intersection and made it halfway before the car stalled. Luckily, it was on an incline and I was able to coast to a parking lot out of the way of traffic. I tried to immediately restart the car, but the engine would attempt to start, but not fire, like the alternator was faulty.
After waiting 10 minutes, the car started up, and I immediately tried to make it to an auto part store. I made it about 10 minutes down the road and the car stalled again in front of the auto part store. They came out to check the battery, alternator, and started, and said all were fine and they were not showing any issues from their test. After waiting another 10 minutes, the car started up and I was able to make it home.
I dropped the car off at the local dealer on Monday and was told they are not able to replicate the problem, and the computer is not showing any codes, so they are not sure on what to do or fix.
I can't be able to fill the gas for my Hyundai sonata 2014 SE and pump has been shuts off automatically 2 times.I tried to fill from different pump and happened same again. This is a new car with 9 MONTHS old.
View 2 RepliesI was driving my Sonata this morning to work as usual. It was a wet morning but not raining. I hit a pothole (which I've hit before) going 35-40 mph. About 1-2 minutes later I was driving about 30-35 mph when I heard a click, lost power and then everything came back on. I believe during this "power loss" that I couldn't accelerate since I remember the rpm going down but I know that I took my foot off of the accelerator when this happened. I kept driving to work and about 2-3 minutes later while coasting down a hill at 35-45 mph. It happened really fast twice in a row.
Each time there was a click, the lights would dim or shut off completely (not sure since it happens so fast), the check engine light would flash, and I believe the radio turned off. Since it happened so fast (click, shut off, and back on) I didn't get to see if I could keep driving (accelerate) or if power steering was gone. I am guessing that they would be gone with my limited knowledge of what I was experiencing. I was able to drive 8 minutes to work without it happening again. I popped the hood looking for a loose connection around the battery but nothing was popping out at me. My car has 117,000 miles and has regular maintenance done. Any ways I could diagnose it further? Can O'reilleys check the code that flashed on and off if it isn't on anymore?
Have a 2005 prius with 71,000 miles, DVD nav and etc. Just 2 days ago the 120v cigarette outlet stopped working, then tried the one in the center counsel and it worked for like a second. Now both don't work.
Did research and heard it could be fuses. Replaces both 15A fuses that are under the driver side dash/steering wheel section. Still outlets will not work. Tried replacing the 25a fuse that I saw works in conjunction with both 15a and still nothing. I then read in some toyotas, and other cars that the outlet itself can be shorted out.
So question, is there some other fuse I'm missing, or something else to check. I tried pushing the connectors on the front passenger outlet to see if they were loose and still won't work. Do I need to replace the outlet itself. Can I just get a new one and unplug the old and plug a new one in. Looks like it comes right out? I need at least one outlet to work and am short on cash to have the dealer do it.
Went looking at replacing the fuse for both power outlets, Couldn't find it. Checked under dash and engine compartment. Checked them all since I didn't know which one was it. Where to look? Everything else works fine on the car. radio, lights, all
View 2 RepliesI plugged in a 12V-to-AC converter (that I use to power my laptop) into the 12V outlet in the dash. The green power indicator led came on for about 1/2 a second and then went out. Thinking the issues was with the converter, I plugged my cell phone charger back into the outlet, only to find that it also wouldn't work (It had been working fine all day). I then tried it in each of the other outlets (back of the center console/trunk) with the same results. I figured it was a blown fuse, even though I'd never had an issue with the converter before. I look in the owner's manual to see which of the three locations held the fuse. It indicated that it was the one on the passenger end of the dash.
Once I had removed the panel, I went to the slot indicated in the manual only to find that there was no fuse at all! Of course, I double-checked the manual, and then proceeded to find the same thing with the fuses for the other two outlets. It doesn't appear like the slots are even set up for a fuse, as there's only metal on one side of the slot.
Thinking that the manual could just be wrong, I checked each and every fuse in all three panels. All looked fine. Still, none of the outlets are getting power.
2005 camry ... Suddenly no power to auxiliary outlets. Ignition switch sends power to fuse 25. Swapped fuse to be double sure. No power at outlet.

I have a 2014 Avalon Hybrid XLE Touring. The 2 console power outlets stopped working. If it may be a blown fuse how do I get the cover off the fuse box under the dash, just pry it off? I hate to break it.

From poking around this site, I think this could be because of blown fuses, but it seems strange that both fuses would go at the same time.

View 7 RepliesI have a Canadian 2011 Sonata 2.0T with sunroof. I am thinking of installing a dashcam. The power for the dashcam is supposed to be USB 5V.
I was thinking of tapping into the power for the sunroof. This way I will get power while ignition is on. I do have a 12V-5V DC converter on order.
How to get to the wiring harness? And how to tap into it? Another option could be the dome light, but I am not sure whether that power is on all the time or not. I only need power while ignition is on.
I have had 2 gx470's perfect - new 2011 gx460 constantly vibrating when driving. Michelin tires perfect not the tires they are saying this is the way they feel. Now impossible - constantly feeling the road and all shaking.
View 14 RepliesI bought my 2006 Sonata with the 2.4L when it had 115,000 and it currently has 130,000 on it now. Ever since I bought it I noticed it had a ticking noise coming from the motor, it makes the noise constantly, it doesn't matter if the motor is hot or cold. I've always been a little worried about the noise. The car does runs like it should though. What it could be?
