Just picked up a 2011 VW Tiguan 2.0t ... Got back into town and ran her thru a touchless carwash. Got it home tonight and the radiator fan ran for over 45 minutes wide open after I turned off the car before I disconnected the battery. The battery cable is off now until morning. Wet sensor?
View 12 RepliesDuring my break in period, it seems to be only about 30 seconds, however, as of late, it's been a couple of minutes. Typically it's about 3 minutes, but last night it ran for close to 5 minutes.
View 8 RepliesMust preface this by saying I drive A LOT... about 600-1K per week for work, so unfortunately my Tiguan takes a beating. Bought it new (62 miles on it) in 8/2012. Had major misfire issues around 68-70K and had to get it towed. (AAA guy said Tiguan owners should know it is difficult to tow and required my husband to drive it up on the truck). Next day I replaced the ignition coils, spark plugs, and got an oil change and dealership was nice enough to have it covered under part of a maintenance service package and only paid about 600 incl. labor which was nice. Been religious with oil changes and some big service items.
Car was working fine until about 95K, when the engine and the cooling fan started to sound extra loud. Then at 98K service and oil change (2 weeks ago), I had them check the tires anyways because I usually get new tires around 50-60K of driving. Dealership said the loud driving around 20-40 mph was due to the wear of the tires and I needed new brakes on both front and back. I understood that and needed new tires anyway. I set up an appointment to get them done at another place and the other place told me I only needed rear brakes and new tires.
Since last week it seems the turbo timer & cool down sounded a little strange (extra loud, extra fluttering sound near the front wheels, and yesterday was not making the cooling down sound after it was parked and turned off). Then Yesterday engine light turned on and VW couldn't take me for a week and a half!! Took it this morning to a repair shop I trust for years (but not VW specific) said the diagnostic showed it was a turbo issue so I will have to go back to the dealership next week anyways.
Getting all new tires with rear brakes today with transmission oil change. But very unhappy that this is happening. When I go back to the VW dealership? Hoping it is just the turbo timer which is a less expensive fix than the entire thing. Also any recommendations with service/maintenance for a Tiguan with climbing miles? Worst part is I just reached 100K miles from my last service 2 weeks ago. Just figured I'd list everything since most people don't have this many miles on their 2012 Tiguans SE 4Motion yet.
I have a 91 tbird sc, the cooling fan is not kicking in and then car boils over, I changed the temperature sending unit and no DIFFERENCE. I am not sure if in the 91 the cooling fan was supposed to turn on when I hit the defrost, but It did for the last few months, its not any more though,. a mechanic told me it was normal but I don't ever remember it doing that before, also the heater is still blowing heat so i didn't think it was the thermostat. Or water pump???
View 2 RepliesThe last few times I drove my car, I noticed the A/C didn't feel very cold. I checked today, and noticed that neither cooling fan comes on with the A/C on. My understanding is that both fans should be in LOW mode with the A/C on. Also, after idling for a while and even after doing some spirited driving and pulling over, the fans never turned on.
From what I'm reading, this sounds like it probably is either the fan control module or the fans themselves failed. Is the fact that both fans don't work in either high or low speed point to this being more likely to be a fan control module? Would this show up as a fault code on a VAG-Com scan?
6L w/automatic trans,no tunes,no mods. Fan doesn't speed up when ac is turned on. I checked connector at fan shroud and #25 10a fuse and wanted to see if there's anything else I can do or check before taking it to dealer. I haven't towed heavy since I noticed ac not cooling at idle but last time I did tow the fan ramped up on hills and stop and go. I'm in Texas so I must get this right asap. I heard of some with manual override so I would like to do that as well but also heard rumors the override can damage pcm. Any manual override?
View 8 RepliesI just recently changed the battery in my key fob and, after starting the car and driving a few minutes, noticed a flashing light on the dash and the information center stated "AFS turning light malfunction, see manual"...
It has happened a few times since then but have not gotten a chance to see of my turning lights still function at night or not.
If I turn on the A/C should my cooling fan be running on "high" speed? The reason why I'm asking is because once I turn off the A/C and wait for 5 minutes at idle, the cooling fan comes on by itself but the speed seems to be the same speed as when the A/C is on. When will it be low speed or when will it be high speed?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2009 VW Tiguan SE with about 85K on it. Yesterday driving to work the alternator/ac belt broke, after replacing the belt the AC compressor will not turn on. The AC was running fine up until the belt broke, so far I have checked all the fuses and the codes, no bad fuses and no codes. I read in the manual about a compressor shaft overload protection but it doesn't go into detail what this is or how to reset it. I could imagine that since the belt broke while the AC was on the system could think there is an issue with the compressor and shut it off but I can't figure out what to check or how to reset it. The AC system was checked a few months ago and has been producing cold air so I don't think there is a coolant level issue.
View 2 RepliesI just put in my LED kit and no matter what polarity I try the front and rear domes are faint and flicker when turned on by a door opening. They work fine when turned on by the dome switches. I did the rear domes first and after some switching of bulbs they started to work. I went and did the front domes and again after some switching they seemed to work, but now they're acting up again when I open a door.
View 10 RepliesSo the car was making a strange creaking noise from the column (the point where the wheel attaches to the column); then on a drive up north, i noticed that the horn had stopped working. Shortly after, the airbag light and warning came on, and I lost all power functions to the wheel (phone and radio control). Cruise, etc, all still work.
I'm guessing that the power harness took a dump, but unsure. Car going in on this weekend.
My 2010 Wolfsburg Tig makes rubbing noises when I turn the wheel but not moving. The noise sounds from the wheel shaft. The noise goes away when the car is moving. What's noise? Is it a normal noise for Tig?

View 4 RepliesThere is a new issue with our 2012 Tiguan S 4Motion. On several occasions the wipers did not turn on when the stalk switch was moved through its positions. Right now, the switch and wipers are working but we don't know for how long.
One interesting fact is that when the switch is left in the on position, the wipers eventually start working. This delay can be as long as 5 minutes.
I scanned with VCDS and found no faults. I monitored the switch position with no issues in any of the 4 positions. Forcing the output causes the wiper motor to work as well. Since the wipers will not operate with the hood open I also checked the status of the hood switch. That too had no errors and responded correctly, disabling the wipers when the hood was unlatched/opened.
Having issues with your wipers not responding to the switch inputs? I will continue to monitor it and will scan with VCDS if I can catch it in the act.
I own a 2009 VW tiguan 2TSI 4WD. Lately i am experiencing undercarriage low tone grinding noise as i made turns at slow speed. i am not sure if the noise is coming from the rear or front. Why and what should i do about it.

View 13 RepliesWife's 2011 Tiguan just stalled when she was driving it. both fuel pumps were replaced about 2 years ago when we bought it used because they faulty. After talking to my wife, I realized that she has been putting 89 in it. I'm just curious if using 89 for an extended period of time could be causing this issue? I had her pick up an octane booster because she just filled up with 89.
View 2 RepliesTwice in the last two weeks, I've had a CEL appear. Both times, I was driving the car more aggressively, but not in the red or anything.
The first time it happened, I slowed down and as I was looking for a place to pull off, the light stopped blinking. The second time, the light blinked, then I slowed down, and then the light stopped blinking and stayed lit.
I checked the fault codes and they were "P0300" and "P0303" which are multiple cylinder misfires, and 3rd cylinder misfire (respectively). Looking those up isn't very useful, except it narrows down the problem to about a dozen things.
It's a 2011 SE triptronic, 4mo, 19k miles, APR stage 1 ECU, CAI, and no other performance mods. I'm running the 91 mode, and using 92 octane gas (which in Oregon is not that great). I've had no other issues with the car, and the engine has never stuttered or seemed off in any way.
I have the 2011 Tiguan SE FWD. It happened 3 times so far- when I turned on the car BEFORE I started the engine, there was a oil pressure warning on the MFI display, something like "Oil pressure low, check owners manual". As soon as I started the engine, the warning went away. I changed my oil all on schedule.

View 18 RepliesFor what it's worth I found a gent locally who has the Vag-Com setup on his laptop and we were able to get the windows and sunroof programmed to open and close when holding the lock/unlock buttons on the remote.

He had to do this the long way with the long code as my '11 Tiguan wouldn't take the programming from the adaptation menu. A couple of other items to note is that the doors did have to be unlocked for the Vag-Com to be able to read the Central Electronics section of the ECU. When they were locked the software on his laptop alternated between saying too many connections and timing out. Also we had to check then uncheck the Comport Opening Only for Drivers Door Active to get all of the windows to open and close...
