I have a set of ST coilovers, installed on my tiguan s4motion they ride great but have noticed clunk noise coming from tight strut and I'm pretty sure it's the pillow mount plate, is there anywhere to get replacements or a better plate? ST website doesn't have them separately...
View 1 RepliesI just replaced all 4 struts on my 04 Camry. The car has 87,000 on it. I went with the Monroe OESpectrum struts and new strut mounts (Monroe). Springs looked fine, the rubber spring seats were fine as well and the bellows, so reused those items.
I now have a noise in the rear end that I did not have before. It sounds like it is coming from the lower part of the car and is not metal sounding. It is a very dull clunk when going over bumps in the road and is coming from both sides.
I replaced the sway bar bushings a couple years ago. I checked those and there is no play and appear to be fine. Also checked the sway bar links and they seem fine to me, but not sure what makes those bad. Torqued what I could. Used an electric impact wrench on the strut nuts and could not torque that because the rod spins.
I am taking it in on Monday for an alignment and to have the shop see if they can figure out the noise. Is it possible that the new parts could be binding and the alignment may take care of it? I have doubled checked my work and everything appears to be on correct.
I have to replace the torque strut mount in my 2008 Avalon XLS V6. I can't find the torque specs for the two bolts in my Haynes manual or at any online sites. Also, should I use either threadlocker or anti-seize on them?
View 1 RepliesI recently replaced my factory struts with KYB's all in one solution. I also did the craft felt mod that HardTop suggested. Ever since they have been replaced I'm getting a weird noise. When I turn the steering wheel in either direction it makes a rubbing sound that is very audible. The vehicle drives fine, and the struts ride really well. However, the noise is a touch annoying.
View 8 RepliesI Spent the day yesterday replacing all four struts on my '07 LE. I went with KYB, the installation went well (so I assumed). I put everything back together exactly as I took it down. Outside of the struts alone, I reused all other parts as everything seemed to be in good order.
Test drive: I seem to have a knock/clunk when going over bumps/pot holes at low speed (<35 and especially <15mph). At highway speeds (65+), I do not hear it at all, even if I hit something. I had a friend ride in the back and confirm that it was coming from the driver's side (left) rear.
Took everything back out and inspected, I noticed that the strut mount has a flange that runs to the flat side of the strut rod that looked a little worn, so decided to go buy a new strut mount (Monroe garbage, only thing available locally). I did notice the Monroe strut mount didn't have that flange the OEM one had, it is just a circle...I didn't know if that mattered. I Put in new strut mount on, same sounds in the same conditions. I want the clunk to go away.
For those people who received a holeless grill in a 2 plate state how did you mount your front plate. I am supposed to have the holeless grill installed this Wednesday. I was thinking about using zip ties and mount it underneath it's original location but I am afraid that I will be blocking the radiator. I could do it by the side grill.
View 24 RepliesI hear a a series of "clunks" rather than "rattles" (not high pitched) when driving slow over bumpy roads. The noise is coming from the rear only. I think it is more evident in cold temperatures, but I'm not sure. I'll find out if it ever gets above freezing again in MN. Strut mounts? If so, DIY project?
View 6 RepliesIs this possible? I recently installed raceland ultimos and I get this weird muffled noise from the top of the rear suspension. Took it all apart, cut the bump stops shorter, and lubed the strut mounts. Sound went away for about 10 mins of driving, went for another drive and the sound was back. The next day the weather was warmer and the noise was gone. Should I just get new strut mounts?

7 weeks ago I installed WRD Street Advantage coils. The install went great, no problems. Drove a week or so and decided to replace the strut mounts with 034's density strut mounts and new bearing to get rid of the creaking sound at low speed. Ordered them and put them on this weekend. After driving it I realized the creaking of the old weaker strut mount was gone. However, I inherited a rough clunking or knocking sound (as if something is loose and moving around), which seems to be coming from my passenger side. This happens at all speeds and not specific to turning the wheel. I unistalled/reinstalled everything in the front 4 times and went through everything with a fine tooth comb, but can't find anything loose. All bolts are torqued to spec.
I even removed the sway bar end links and drove it, still there. So it's not the end links. I also tried using the OEM endlinks which are longer than the ones from WRD to increase the space between the axle and the sway bar, possibly thinking it was hitting and causing the noise. No luck, still there. The only thing I noticed is that with the car on jack stands the strut mount is tight to the body but I still have slight play in the spring and it's perch. Is that normal? I'm assuming under load it's tight again. So the only variable in my situation is the new Density Mounts and bearing, can these cause heightened noises due to the increased heardness of the mounts?
I was sitting at the stoplight in neutral when the light turned green. I pushed in the clutch and put the car in first then all of a sudden a huge CLUNK like when you take out the starter bolt without supporting the trans or motor. Then while letting out the clutch about halfway all hell broke loose. It sounded like a bunch of marbles rattling like crazy in the trans. I pushed the clutch back in then it stops until you let it back out again. The car still moves forward and reverse but with all that noise. The sound seems like it's coming from under the driver side motor mount. When I put my hand on the tranny I can feel the vibrations very well. Does this sound like the throw out bearing?
View 3 RepliesI ran over a rather large pot hole while driving home in the middle of the night. It destroyed my tire and tire sidewall and soon after the strut started to make a knocking noise while going over bumps. I replaced both front strut assemblies with Monroe Quick Struts (photo attached). After the install, the noise was gone and everything seemed good so I gave the car to my wife. After several months, I decided to drive the car to see if everything was still OK and it wasn't. The knocking noise on the driver front strut came back.
I took the car back to my mechanic and he said that he thinks the strut assembly was defective and that I should get a replacement since it was under warranty. I would just pay labor again for him to change it. Something seemed off by the conversation, so I decided to take the car to another mechanic for a second opinion, but before I do that I want to pose this question here. What could be the problem? Why did the knocking noise come back?
I've attached more photos. You will see two photos of the tops of the strut assemblies from under the hood. The first top photo is of the passenger left strut that is good (with the wheels straight). The second top photo is of the problematic driver front strut. You can see the top is slanted left with the wheels straight. The rest of the photos are from around the driver side wheel.
I did complete a wheel alignment after the install and the car pulls left when the steering wheel is straight after the alignment.

My upper strut mounts have been failing after a year (about 12,000 miles, typical highway and local street driving, no off-road!). This seems to have started when I replaced shocks with Bilstein slightly stiffer variety. I also put a stabilizer bar on it at that time. Do you think the shocks are the fault? What else might I look for?
View 1 RepliesI have purchased an UltraRacing strut bar for my hyundai accent 2005... The problem however is that my intake manifold sits higher than the throttle body and as a result of this i am unable to mount the bar... The bar has been made for an 03 accent but all points are identical, the only difference that i was able to see is that in the previous accent the throttle body was NOT plastic and sat FLUSH with the throttle body, whereas mine IS plastic and does NOT sit flush with the throttle body.

2010 SE 4Motion: My Tiguan's tranny seems to clunk pretty bad when coming to a stop. Wasn't a problem until after I got flashed to APR stage 1 so it may still be adapting, but I'm not sure.
View 10 RepliesI have a rear rattle that I cant figure out had the wheel off and levered and pounded on links bushings etc. How can I access the top strut mounts to check them? Nothing found on youtube. Original struts on rear show no leaks or broken spring. Bouncing car does nothing neither does grabbing the tire at 12 and 6 or 3 and 9 position.

View 1 RepliesWas tinkering on my car this morning, and at first noticed one side had a bigger gap than the other. Ok, I really need to change strut mount bushings, no big deal. Then I actually looked closer, and they both have some lean to them, but the drivers side is much more than the other one. Is this normal? I've never noticed any play in control arm bushings or anything. So what could be causing this? I would assume they are meant to sit flat but maybe not?
View 8 RepliesI just installed my brand new coil overs. I went to drop the car from the jack and as it lowered I noticed my strut mount fully popped out of the strut mount housing. I can't even close my hood. Did I do something wrong?
