Touareg :: Grinding / Scrubbing When Turning At Low Speeds

Jun 4, 2004

Brought my Treg in for service today for a host of things:

Grinding/Scrubbing when turning at low speeds. TPM Pull to the right/Alignment/Uneven tire wear.

Limited remote range

Drivers side whistling noise when fan speed at 3-4 bars and windows are closed

Service Advisor tells me the Transmission Control Module is the cause of the scrubbing/grinding at low speeds. I have seen the posts with respect to the Stepper motors.

Passat (B7) :: Grinding Noise When Turning Right At Low Speeds

I have a 2013 Passat TDi SE with about 64000 miles on it and 20 rims. I noticed a grinding noise when turning right at low speeds. It was a very slight noise at first, but has gotten louder over the past 1-2 months. The grinding noise sounds like it's coming from the back of the car and only at fairly tight turning radii, with speeds 10 - 20 mph (think going up the levels of a parking garage). What could this be????

Other things to note:

No other noises, vibrations accompany the sound.

I do get the steering rack creek when turning lock-to-lock, but this sound is definitely not that sound.

I mentioned I have 20 wheels thinking that might have something to do with it. They don't rub at all going in a straight line, however.

Sound is only present when turning right.

Touareg :: V6 Grinding / Vibration At All Speeds

Lately, Im noting a grinding like feeling at all speeds. Its as if something in the wheels/drive train isn't smooth (like a busted bearing) and there is a low grinding noise that is consistent with the engine revs. I can feel it in the gas pedal and on the shifter when I place my hand on it.

Ford Excursion :: 2001 - Grinding At Slower Speeds And While Turning

I have a 2001 excursion limo with 108,000 its a v-10 2 wheel drive with stock wheels and tires. I believe both my front hub bearings are going out, I am hearing some grinding at slower speeds and while turning, but seems to be ok at highway speeds...Anyway I think I am going to replace both front hub bearing assemblies.

Yaris/Scion & Vitz :: 2004 Echo - Grinding Noise While Turning At Low Speeds

I have a 2004 Echo with the 5 speed manual. Everything is factory original on this car except the tires. (159,000 km). While turning hard to the right at low speeds or pulling away from a stop and turning right, I get a harsh grinding/scraping noise and it seems to be coming from the drivers front wheel. If it was a CV joint, or wheel bearing, wouldn't it make noise all the time?

Chevrolet - Tahoe :: 2004 - Grinding When Turning Right / Braking - Shaking At Highway Speeds?

I drive a 2004 chevy Tahoe and have had this problem for about 8 months. It started out very faint and occasional, but has now escalated to loud and consistent. So it ONLY happens when turning right. I've tried to replicate it when turning left and had no success. It happens when I am turning fairly hard at a decent speed. ex. Pulling into my driveway. I've already checked the wheel bearings and Ball joints.

Another thing is that the ABS light is on sometimes when i start the car and comes on every time i turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. It also has a problem where it will shake almost uncontrollably when driving at 65+MPH after hitting a bump or sometimes just randomly on a smooth surface. We just got new tires and balanced them. It did the same with the previous set we had. I know I'm asking for a lot, but where to start?

Ford Brakes/Suspension :: Faint Grinding Noise When Turning The Steering Wheel At Low Speeds

One my F350 with 175,000 miles on it, at low speeds when turning the steering wheel it seems as if it has two places during use that it rubs or has an oblong spot in it. I have 285 tires on it and have for years.

Kind of like if you were turning a shaft in a seal and it rubbed or was rough. It makes a faint, muffled, barely audible grinding noise or feel. I have a lift and level of about 4" and 285s for years. This just started in the last 5 months or so.

Touareg :: 2006 V8 - Grinding Noise Specially While Foot On Gas At Cruising Speeds

I have an 06 Touareg V8 with AWD, auto tranny. No leveling suspension. And when I drive it specially while my foot is on the gas at cruising speeds there's a grinding noise coming from under the car. When I step off the gas it is gone or when I am accelerating hard I can't hear it. What could it be? It's driving me and my ocd insane!! I think it is drivetrain related (differential, wheel bearing, etc.) but not the transmission as I can still hear it while coasting in neutral.

Golf V R32 :: Vibrations / Scrubbing When Making Slight Right Turns?

MKV R32? I take Hwy 17 to and from work. It's a pretty curvy road with some of tight turns (fun) and a number of slight turns that have a little incline. Whenever I make a slight right turn (like a long sweeper), I feel a slight vibration under the pedals and it feels like the car is grinding.

It only happens on those slight turns at 50-65mph and I can only replicate the vibrations on a curvier road......The car is smooth as silk around town, on the interstate but not when it comes to those right hand sweepers.

The car has no problem taking full right hand turns or even handling a right hand hairpin. Could it be my tires?wheel bearings? alignment?need my tires rotated? I took it to the dealer and the mechanic and I couldn't replicate the problem on the interstate. The car has 8900 miles on it and I will need to take it in for service soon.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Scrubbing With Slight Bumps - Bad Suspension

I am having trouble with my car bottoming out, scrubbing with slight bumps, and if I have 3 or 4 people in my car the back left tire scrubs 100%. I think the shocks are stock OEM and car has 130k Miles on it. Tires are also wearing REALLY fast and on one side. I need tires, alignment. I will not do this until I get the suspension fixed. I can NOT find Quik Struts (with the springs already compressed and in the strut housing. I can't even find the springs themselves anywhere. All my local parts places state they do not carry them. I can find Strut assemblies all day, but struts are a no go.

I am a bigger guy, and would like slightly stiffer suspension, and some that keep the car a tiny bit higher than normal. 2006 Elantra GLS....

Passat (B6) :: Metal Grinding Noise At Low Speeds?

Ok so 11 days into ownership and only slightly over 800 miles the car started to act funny. First the common DVD nav issue (no disk in drive message).

Second issue is a strange metal on metal rubbing noise when turning at low speeds (i.e. in parking lots). When I make a big turn (either direction) it sounds like either the brake calipers aren't releasing fully and is causing the pad and disk to rub, or something else is rubbing.

This actually happened once yesterday on the highway as well. going 75mph, a very loud metal on metal rubbing noise.

Seems to only happen when temps outside are below 40. It warmed up yesterday afternoon and the noise went away, but after it got cold again last night, the noise came back.

Passat (B6) :: Knock Sensor Code After Valve Carbon Scrubbing Service

I have a '07 Passat Wagon 2.0T with 80K miles. I just had the carbon scrubbed off the valves (looked like black popcorn stuck in there!) and now I'm getting a "P0327 Knock Sensor 1" light. The motor seems to run just fine (actually much better now without the carbon build-up). I'll clear the code but it will show up again the next day.

What could cause the code? Could it be related to the recent scrubbing (fully removed and replaced the valve cover in the process), perhaps a chunk of carbon floating around in the tubes somewhere? I want to go back to the guys that performed the service but I want to have a good idea of what could be the problem and the fix before I get there.

Camry :: 2003 - Awful Grinding Noise At Low Speeds

I'm going to start tearing into my wife's car this weekend because the bearings are making an awful grinding noise at low speeds, so I feel like this needs to be done soon.

I bought from rockauto new hubs and bearings, but looking at them, it seems like the bearing goes over the outside of a shaft on the hub. Other that than, I'm not really sure how it all goes together until I look.

Just curious as to whether this can be done without a press or any special tools? I have an impact gun and all the sockets one could need, but I don't have a hub puller or bearing press or anything like that.

I've done a bunch of searches but can't seem to really find the answers I'm looking for...

Ford - Focus :: Left Front Brake Makes A Scrubbing Noise In The Rain Only

When it rains the left front brake makes a scrubbing sound and has a small vibration. After using the brakes once or twice it goes away. It sort of feels the the rotor is warped. But, it only happens in the rain and then goes away. I had the dealer look at it several times since I bought this car in 2008 and they claim they can't find anything wrong with it.

Tiguan :: Steering Making Grinding / Rubbing Noise At Low Speeds

The steering on my wife's 2010 Tiguan makes a bit of a grinding/rubbing noise at low speeds? Something isn't right, it sounds the same way my X5 did when the Rack needed to be replaced. It would be strange to have 2 cars needing new racks within the same year....especially since they are both 2010 model.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Grinding And Banging Noise When Driving At Low Speeds

A few days ago, my Sonata 2006 LX started making weird noises when driving at low speeds. The noise comes from the front driver's side area, they are not affected by steering or going over bumps. Usually get less intense when I accelerate or brake. At speeds around 5 mph, the noise is grinding and pretty loud. At higher speeds, it's more like banging and it's frequency increases with the speed. There was no effect other than the noise, but the last day at higher speeds, I can feel with the steering wheel a little vibration sometimes from the banging.

I've been having tough times renting a car during the weekend and I still drive on short distances, but I'm afraid it could be a safety issue or that I can be making things much worse to repair. The noises got worse since the beginning, but I don't think they are getting any worse anymore.

Hyundai - Elantra :: Grinding Noise When Accelerating And Sometimes At Lower Speeds

My 2007 Hyundai Elantra SE (Automatic, 69,400 miles) makes a grinding noise when I start to accelerate from 40 mph. I sometimes hear a noise that sounds like an airplane wheel being activated when I'm driving at lower speeds driving around town. Could this be the transmission? Who should I take the car to?

Subaru - Outback :: Grinding / Rattling Noise When Shifting And Cruising At Low Speeds

Three days ago my Outback started making this grinding/rattling (hard to describe) noise when shifting and cruising at low speeds. Is this the clutch or the transmission? No trouble shifting though. I got rear-ended by a big Lexus SUV last week, but wouldn't think that would have anything to do with it. Just damaged the bumper a little.

Ford - Explorer :: 2002 - Rear-end Is Slightly Grinding At Low Speeds Mainly When Turn Right

It is a 2002 Explorer xlt 4x4 4.6l v8 with 139k miles. It runs like a top and is in great condition. However I have a few questions:

Most importantly is it feels and sounds like the rear-end is slightly grinding at low speeds mainly when I turn right. If I give it a bit of gas when turning it doesn't seem to do it. I have tried running a vin decoder to figure out if I have limited slip or not so I can drain the rear diff and inspect it, but I haven't found what it has as far as gears go.

Number two. The keyless entry and remote worked when I bought the car and then about two days later it just stopped working. I bought a new battery for the remote and put it in and it still doesn't work.

Also the interior lights will stay on after you start the car until I hit about 15mph, and also stay on for about 5min after I shut the car off. I am not sure what may cause this. I have owned tons of older ford's but am relatively new to anything newer than 2000.

And I know pics or it didn't happen, so there is one of the door sticker, one of the rear axle, and one of the car ...
