I've got a 2004, V8 with about 65,000 miles. If its 75 or above and the ac is running the HVAC will start this whining or chirping noise. It seems fan speed related. Its coming from the passenger side, not the drivers side as some of the other posts mention with their situation.
View 1 RepliesThis noise has been posted several times recently and I have also experienced similar sounds. Whining in the drivers side dash area. Dealer states that it is fuel pump and that it is normal. Well, it has been a lot colder here in the last week and the noise has become louder, a couple of times to the point that it was hard to carry on a conversation with someone in the vehicle.
So I started investigating and found that if I turned the HVAC fan all the way OFF, which turns the system off, then the noise is gone. So my noise has to be associated with the HVAC. Complaining of this same noise coming from the drivers side dash? Also found same noise when I would use the REST.
My car has recently developed a chirping noise that seem to originate in the passenger side of the engine bay. It is very audible when the car is engaged in drive and at low rpms. At higher rpms it seems to go away. I have a 2002 1.8t with 90k, tip, tb job was done at 75k, right after I got the car couple of years ago.

A high pitched chirping noise comes from the front passenger side wheel ONLY when turning left and ONLY when it's below 40F. Goes away once it warms up.

I have a Phaeton and came to go out last night, only to notice an oily deposit on the drive in the rain (live in NW England so its always raining) started the car and there is a loud whining noise from the passenger side (no, its not the wife) that gets worse when you turn the wheel. My first thought was steering pump, but when I check, all the steering fluids look to be fine and are near the max level.
View 4 RepliesWhile I was driving today, I noticed a "whining" noise that sounded like a belt squealing that got louder as I increased speed. I pulled over to check the see if it was in fact a belt, and when the engine was revved in park, I heard nothing. As soon as I started to move, the noise started, then increased in volume.
I assume that this is some sort of wheel related problem.The sound seems to be coming from the right rear wheel. I just got back from the dealer. The tech said that the main bearing in the drive shaft is bad. They have to replace the whole drive shaft to fix the problem. I am glad that it didn't completely fail while on the interstate, I bet it would have done some damage.
I just upgraded from an '08 GTI to an '08 R32. When I start my R, I get this subtle whining noise which seems to be coming from underneath the passenger side of the car. I stuck my head under the car to try and determine where it is coming from exactly, but I couldn't really tell. It's not a loud noise, but I hear it whenever the car is running. I did a search for it, but I couldn't find any posts describing this particular noise.
View 11 RepliesI have an old 98 Lesabre, and it runs and drives great. When I first got it I had to do the Vacuum line mod on the programmer to get the HVAC to blow out the face vents. That was the best $1.60 and 30 min I spent on a car
That mod still works and was done about 1.5 years ago, the ENTIRE time i have owned the car the temp blinks when I start the car, but the HVAC has always worked fine so I paid no attention to it. That is until 3 weeks ago when I had to replace my intake manifold. I disconnected the battery without turning the system to "off". I have been doing a bunch of reading online, and it seems I may have thrown the system's sync off by doing this.
Right now my problem is this, colder air coming from the pass side then the driver’s side. When I start the car it will seem synched for a few seconds, then it will start blinking and both vents will go FULL COLD, eventually it brings the temp back up the d-side gets hotter than the p-side. I have done the following:
- gone through AT LEAST 50 on/off cycles
- Removed the 9c fuse to try to reset
- Pulled down the glove box door and watched both the upper and lower blend doors go through there whole range of movement (which they do)
- Tried to re-sync by pushing the temp full hot, then full cold a few times in a row.
Besides getting this scanned by a tech 2, which is my last resort, is there anything else I can do?
So I have a hissing sound (kind of what the vacuum cleaner makes when air path is obstructed with debris) coming from passenger side foot area. The easiest way to hear it is to turn on HVAC and put the fan on the lowest setting so the sound of the fan does not interfere with the noise.
View 1 RepliesI have this strange noise coming from the engine compartment on the passenger side of my vehicle. Here are the characteristics of the sound:
1) Sounds a bit like a skipping tranny. Fast paced creaking type sound.
2) Only happens when coasting and the car is up to temperature. Meaning when I'm accelerating or braking the sound is not present.
BTW, the vehicle has 28k-29k miles and is 18 months old.
Drove my truck for the first time in a few months and there was a noticeable ticking coming from the passenger side glovebox area when the HVAC is running. I cycled between AC and fresh air and the sound persisted. What it could be?

I have an 2005 VW Touareg. I purchased it 1 month ago with 8919 miles on it. I love the thing! However I have a rattle coming from the part that is below the passenger dash. The good thing is it only rattles when i hit a big bump, however when u pay 30k + this is the last thing you want to hear. See Pic. How to remove this black panel so i may fix it? Dealer was no luck the typical "I didn't hear any rattles" ....

Recently, the oil light / shut engine off light came on, and during deceleration, an odd chirping noise was heard.
Oil level is fine. Previous owner claims to have had it changed every 6k with full synthetic. What the culprit might be?
I have a 2008 Prius with 111,000 miles on it and lately, I hear a loud chirping, whining sound that is louder under acceleration and seems to vary only according to acceleration or deceleration. Acceleration makes a louder sound. The noise does not occur when vehicle is cold and first driven. It's only after it's driven for awhile and things are warmed up but then again, it doesn't always do it even though it's warmed up. Not sure I could reproduce the sound if I brought it to a dealer for service. When the noise does start up, it's very apparent and loud and then, after awhile, it goes away temporarily only to start up again.
View 5 RepliesI am a new owner of my first truck and it is a 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0L Extended Edge with 138,000 miles on it. I keep getting a chirping noise coming from driver side of truck. It only happens when I have the AC on. I can turn AC to just air and the chirping stops. This only happens when I am driving. If I have my truck parked in drive with the hood up, I go and turn on AC full blast and I hear no chirping. I can see AC compressor turn on a few seconds after I start the truck and it is not cycling on or off every few seconds as some people I have asked told me it should do. AC air is ice cold so I should have enough freon. Now this chirping is not constant like a machine gun going off but just about every 5 seconds or so it would chirp. I have heard of bad camshaft sensors causing chirping but would that happen every few seconds and only when you are driving down the road with the AC on? Now I have noticed when truck has sat for a long time I get belt squeal for a few seconds and it then goes away. I think the squeal goes away when AC compressor starts because I observed this when looking for this random chirp. Any clues?

View 3 RepliesI sent my T in last week because I was not getting "cold" air out of the passenger side vents, at least not as cold as the drivers side. The Dealer has acknowledged the problem but is having a hard time (with wvoa) finding a solution. They've returned the T to me until they can find a fix, hoping to keep from removing the entire dash.
I ran some tests of my own this weekend. When in ECON mode, both sides put out the same temp; only when the compressor is on do the temps vary. I have heard gurgling in the dash since I bought the T and when in ECON the gurgle goes away (compressor is off).
Question: Could the system be low on frion (or whatever coolant)? Are there two separate evaporators for dual zone? I'm thinking (hoping) yes on both. Maybe one evaporator is getting a full mix of coolant and the other is not......could this be the gurgling I keep hearing?
I'll bring the T in tomorrow and ask them to recharge the system if any of you agree with this theory. I hate to think the dealer will have to rip the entire dash apart to fix this situation.
I had the differential control module recall/flash performed last week and now the car makes a whining noise at speeds north of 35mph. The noise seems to emanate from the front of the car (near the radiator). The dealer was able to hear the sound -- and unable to diagnose the problem. They reflashed the stepper -- and the noise remained.
They moved the stepper motor, drove the car -- and the noise remained. Finally, they put the stepper back in -- reflashed it -- and then the noise went away. Subsequently, I drove the car noise-free for about 250 miles (over several days) -- and then the noise came back. I'm also having the same problem that others report about the tight-radius binding when turning (which the flash was supposed to solve).
questions:
1) any experience of whining noise after the flash recall
2) i see that some had the stepper motor replaced...what was the underlying reason?
3) it seems that the stepper is the problem -- but could it really be the differential that's not keeping the right ratios?
I've had my 2006 V6 for a few months now and I've encountered a few annoying little problems that I would like more information on before I go to the dealer for my 5000 mile service...
1) Every time I start the car and pull out of the driveway there is a rather loud clicking noise. It sounds like the car is slipping into gear. There is no jolt or hesitation, and you can't feel anything, you just hear the noise. It happens when I go over about 10mph, just once, every time I start up.
2) At higher speeds when I start to accelerate say from 50 to 70 mph there is a high pitched whine. It is like the car is winding up before it takes off.
3) Sometimes there is a clicking noise coming from the dash board. Like an electronic clicking noise when you click on a link in a website. It clicks a dozen times and then stops.
4) One time the radio controls stopped working and the radio control panel started blinking on and off rapidly. After about three minutes everything returned to normal.
Okay, "check lights" idiot light came on today and I discovered my passenger side DRL/low beam is out. I assumed the bulb must be bad but when I started the car up again, the light came on briefly, then off, and then flickered, ending up off.
I'm now assuming that this is not a bulb issue, but a ballast or something my Ford truck doesn't have. Now what do I do to fix it?
Just found out the passenger side is completely soak. I brought it in to a mechanic and he figure it was a sunroof clog. The ac water is coming out, but he poured like 2 bottles of water on the sunroof and only like a couple of drops came out. Should I be worried about getting wet under the passenger seat?
