VW deciding to remove the engine covers on later build Tregs. Various reasons have been sighted (heat, rattles, hassle for service tech, psychology to have dealer service it). Now I've seen some pics people have posted of their new V10's and voila, the covers have returned.
View 2 RepliesI have an intermittent rattle sound which comes from behind the dash. It just seems to come and go, and I can't find any pattern as to when it happens. It can happen while driving or standing still. Of course, it NEVER happens when the car is at the dealership.
It sounds like a marble is back there vibrating (others have discribed this as well). I can't be sure where it is coming from, but perhaps from behind the instruments?
Others have reported it, but say only that they "turn up the radio". Sometimes I have my wife and kids in the car, so turning up the radio is just not an option. I want it fixed! What it could be???
Went to pick up my Touareg tonight. Took it for a quick test drive and there was a noise and rattle coming from the steering column when you hit bumps. It sounded like metal on metal. The tech guy drove it with me and agreed something is wrong. They put it up on the rack but I left because I had been there for one hour and that was already past my mental limit for being in a car dealership. I didn't sign the paperwork. Told them to call me when they figure it out and I'll come back and buy it if the problem is not significant. Everything was going great until then.
View 2 RepliesI bought a 2005 wagon from a local dealer with 21K miles, the 1.8T, an automatic and 4mo. It was certified and still has 2 yrs and 24K miles on the warranty.
Anyway, I there is a rattle/rumble/vibration anytime the engine is at about 1200 RPM. I usually happens on small inclines, and doesn't matter if you are decelerating through 1200 or accelerating through it is makes the noise. I can get it to sustain itself if i keep it at 1200 on the gas or on the brake.
I am hoping it is just a heat shield that rattles at the certain frequency the engine makes at 1200, but I don't know. It is kind of right at that point where the transmission engages and disengages, torque converter?
My wife's 2011 Gti (31k miles, dsg) has developed a bad rattle vibration at idle. It goes away when you press on the gas. At first first I thought it was just a bit of plastic rattling in the wheel well or engine bay, but now I'm suspecting the engine. It's coming from the drivers side and it sounds like the 'TSI rattle' turned up to 11. It's intermittent, but worse when it's cold.
Engine mount? Chain guides going going bad? I will try to get a video of the sound today.
I have a 2007 Sonata, 2.4L 4cyl. and it is making some weird noise as of late. I have done some research and from what I have read it seems like it may be a bad engine mount. One thing to note is that the noise really only happens when the car is cold and hasn't warmed up yet or on a cold day.
Basically the best description is that the noise is a high-pitched rattle/vibration noise. The noise seems to match the vibrations of the engine but doesn't seem to get more intense if I rev the engine. The noise does get quieter if I put it in neutral but it is still there. The noise also happens even if the car is parked and off, and I do something like shut the door or trunk. I haven't gotten a chance to get in there and look under the hood myself to try...
I started my car and a chain rattle noise then the check engine light popped on. now I have two codes, p1340 and p0012 codes for camshaft issues.

Problem: Noise or rattle in engine compartment, at low speed (less than 25miles/hour) on uneven pavement (not potholes). Can be replicated over and over.
The dealer acknowledge the noise and has tightened all suspension parts, greased all joints, replace front-right shock and bushings (for some reason the noise is more prevalent on Right side), put some sort of tool with sensors in different areas of the chassis to "hear" noise differences while driving to determine the culprit.
Description: To me, the noise sounds like there is something lose in either the engine compartment or the area where the wipers are located. Sort of like if there was something (plastic maybe) hitting the chassis (only at slow speeds - I cannot hear it when driving faster I guess because of engine and road noise). I have not been able to figure it out.
The noise was present only on another 2007 with 8K miles.
So I'm at my wits end trying to locate (and fix) a loud, high frequency rattle noise inside the engine compartment.
It can be heard when applying the gas pedal a certain amount. In other words, I can "find" the noise and maintain it at a certain rpm.
The noise is coming from the back of the engine near the firewall. It feels and sounds like it's coming from the throttle body plate and vibrating the gas pedal. I cleaned the plate and it isn't loose.
The issue doesn't seem to be affecting engine performance.
The sound is noticeable while driving (under load). When in park, I can find an rpm where the throttle body seems to take a heavy wave of vibration from the engine and hum (but not nearly as loud as while driving). Issue existed before I put on new motor mounts, and still persists after replacing all 4 (although the vibration and noise are reduced).
How to remove the plastic engine cover that covers the engine? I'm know some of them are just held in place with friction plugs and only require a good tug, but I've thought that about other things in the past which have resulted in expensive noises.

View 8 RepliesI had the fuel pressure sensor recall done recently, and I got the car back with 2 plastic pins missing from the engine compartment covers.
Car went in with all of the pins in place. No big deal, I have a bag of pins and I can replace them.
But then I wonder, if they're careless about small things like pins, are they putting my engine back together with all the bolts and screws???
My dad once told me a story about a coworker who used to work the Ford assembly line. They would sometimes put in 3 bolts where 4 were required.
One day, if my engine fails, it may be hard to prove the dealership was the cause.
So I took my R into the dealership to have them look into the rattle/vibration noise that happens when I accelerate. They say that they looked into it and found nothing that was loose and said everything was fine.
When I first got the car I was showing it off to a friend of mine, letting him hear the intoxicating exhaust note, he was impressed, then I rev it and he was like hmmm what was that? Needless to say I was a bit embarrassed.
At this point I don't like getting on the gas in fear that someone will hear this noise and I cringe when I hear it. It's unacceptable for a $30k+ car. The noise does seem to get better once the car is heated up, but that's only after quite a bit of driving and its still there, just not as bad.
I'm taking the car in again tomorrow for something unrelated and I'm going to make sure I give it a few revs so they can hear what I'm hearing.
My 2010 IV has some kind of rattle/vibration in the upper glovebox. You can only hear it when taking off from a stop or accelerating at low speed.
View 2 RepliesI need some speaker upgrade recommendations that'll fit into the door cards - specifically the subwoofers - I've replaced an OEM speaker in the driver side once already and it's doing the same thing as before it has a weird vibration/rattle noise with certain freqs. It may very well be the way it's sitting in there but I doubt it.

View 4 RepliesHave a new 2012 Camry XLE V-6. The car has an intermittent rattle/vibration coming from the front of the car. I have 5000 miles and the noise is getting worse. Taken back twice to dealer but no luck. The dealer has checked the front end and suspension, but can not find anything loose. The noise starts around 45 MPH. I know this sounds crazy, but the noise is worse if it's a windy day. A sudden guest of wind will start the noise. I've tried trouble-shooting by turning the wheel, hitting the brakes, even placing the car in netural while driving, but nothing affects the noise except the wind.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2005 Limited and whenever I roll any of the windows down it does a quick rattle vibration like its trying to pull away from something that's sticking then it continues to roll. It would be 1 thing of it was just 1 window however its all 4 windows. I thought originally thought maybe some of the rubber molding I seen on the windows, (maybe from the days it was hot over the course of years) were the reason and wiped all the black stuff off the windows with goop. Didn't work. I didn't realize how bad it was until I moved my old 2001 Avalon I'm selling and they rolled down so smooth..
View 7 RepliesI've noticed when going up hills where the engine is working, there is a rattle/vibration that seems to be coming from the passenger side dashboard/glovebox area. I've opened both glove boxes and made sure nothing was in it and the rattle still continues. It sounds like there is a screw loose in the plastic inside the dash that is vibrating.
