For the first 10 or 15 minutes after starting the truck I hear a clicking noise under the hood about 1 or 2 clicks per second. It's kind of a mechanical sound, maybe like a pump working. Could this be the Webasto heater working?
View 1 RepliesMy son was driving my 2002 Explorer, 4.0L, 200K+, yesterday, and it started making a clicking noise under the hood. It clicks in time with the engine running, but it doesn't sound internal to me. It's more like it's in some of the apparatus on top of the engine, fuel delivery system. It doesn't sound like a timing chain to me, but I could be wrong. Maybe I'm just trying to be optimistic, but the thing runs fine, and all of the gauges are normal. I'm going to drive it today to see for myself. Any other part besides the timing chain?
View 6 RepliesI have a 1995 Rodeo with a clicking noise, probably coming from the ABS pump by the battery under the hood.
If I pull the ABS fuse, will this solve the problem? I realize I wouldn't have ABS then, but that is acceptable.
My 2003 Mustang convertible (6cyl) has recently started making a loud clicking noise under the hood that seems to come on after driving in stop-and-go traffic or when turning on the a/c. I don't notice it when driving on the highway at a relatively steady speed. The clicking will continue for a minute or so and then stop for a while. I had also noticed a strange melting plastic or chemical smell coming from under the hood whenever clicking has happened. I had also noticed a couple weeks ago that at stop lights, the a/c was blowing warm air even when on the coldest setting. The air would then become cold again after driving for about a minute. What could this problem (or problems) be and can I fix it (or them) myself?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 Dodge Durango! I have noticed a clicking/knocking noise when I am driving coming from under the hood. The noise used to diminish somewhat the longer that I drove. Now the noise is getting louder and doesn't seem to lessen as my drive time increases. What this could be?
View 5 RepliesThe sound emanates approximately from the area of the coolant storage tank (driver's side, behind the front bumper), though I doubt the tank or its pump is the problem. It sounds only when the car is in 'ready' status. I also think it is not one of the relays in the nearby fusebox. There water-pump drive belt is not on that side, so I don't think it's the water pump or its idler pulley. I have posted a ten-second sound recording on YouTube, greatly amplified. View 5 RepliesSo this is a two-part question because that's the type of day that I'm having. 1st, I went out to start my car to find that it won't. The radio and lights come on, but it won't actually start, and makes a rapid, loud, clicking noise. I have a video of this however...
My boyfriend thought perhaps I need a jump start, so we were going to try that first but when we went to pull the latch inside the car to open the hood, we found that it doesn't work. So now we can't get the hood open.
So, I'd like to first know how I can get my hood open easily, and what may be going on with it not starting.
When my car is idle i sometimes hear some strange splashing noises, like water splashing under the hood...its really loud and i can clearly hear it inside the car. Whats going on?

I hear two clicks under the hood (NOT a continuous type click you hear when the battery is dead). The first seems to be up near the passenger fender well when the key is turn to the start position, the second click seems to be down under the motor near the passenger side (near the starter I assume, couldn't tell very well) when the key is RELEASED from the start position. The motor doesn't budge, I don't see any belts flinch or pulleys move to indicate that the starter is engaging. I don't hear anything that sounds like a starter engaging to me.
If not, where the starter solenoid is on this thing? is it separate like the other older ford's I've owned or is it now on the starter? Is there any fuse-able links that could cause this? Wiring diagram? Is there a way to jump the solenoid like in the old school days (e.g. with a screwdriver or wrench)? would like to get this home without towing it or fixing what is really wrong with it in the parking lot.
It's in negative to single digit temps here in Indy now, I fired it up in the morning in negative temps, drove it work. Came out to go home, and now this. So something happened between this morning and now and it's not the battery.
I have a 05 V8 with just over 1000 miles on it. The other day while driving with the driver window down, I had the trans in sport mode. As I accelerated quickly and got the rpm's pretty high, I noticed a rapid clicking noise coming from the underside of the car. It sounded like it was below the driver seat area. The clicking I heard sounded electronic, and can be best described as similar to the noise a playing card makes when kids put them in the spokes of their bicycles. The noise became apparent as the car reached the next shift point, and stopped after the shift. As the rpm's rose and it reached the next shift point, I heard it again. I have been able to duplicate the sound in tip mode as well, but I mostly hear it when it's in sport mode as it's easier to get the rpm's up before the shift.
I took the car in and took the service manager for a ride. He claimed he couldn't hear it. So I got my salesman to let me drive another 05 V8 and I heard it on that car too, but not as severe as on mine.
it never ends. upon start up of the treg ('04 v6) the a/c goes through a bunch of clicks and clacks. this used to be remedied with the activation of inside air only; now it does not matter and is non-stop. any remedies? i am going to get this fixed before i run over 50k. i am at 49550 right now!

View 20 RepliesI noticed today when my Touareg is running but in park, each time I step on the brake I hear a loud clicking noise coming from the shifter. I assume the noise is the safety lock engaging and disengaging that allows you to put the car in gear while the brake pedal is pressed. I never noticed the noise before but usually I have the radio on. Is it normal to be able to hear this noise?
View 2 RepliesFinally I'm having my first issue with my Touareg! Coming to work today i noticed that even though i had flipped on my signal via the stalk, there was no mention of it on the dash and no clicking noise. I look off the reflection of the car in front of me and indeed me exterior turn signals work just fine. I get to work, shut off the car and turn it back on. Flip on the turn signal and the inside signal flashes once then goes off again. I again turn off and on the car and get the same result.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2006 touareg 7L 3.0 V6 tdi, and i have 2 problems.
First is I'm sure the heated external mirrors arent heating up, yes i have the switch set to middle for heat but they don't seem to be getting warm like my m3 does. i would check the fuse but i see no fuse for mirror heating! What is the fuse number?
Second problem is a very noisy clicking noise coming from behind the glovebox, i've videod it and heres the noise [URL] .... I've done a bit of searching and think its the blower fan but i want to be 100%...
I've successfully managed to ignore the clicking noise coming from the vent system long enough that it eventually went away but I now have no air coming out from the footwell area on both the driver and passenger side. I am guessing that the diverter flap mechanism has either simply broken or is mechanically frozen in a certain position.
The air flow to the dash and defrost vents is fine. If I manually set the system to have all air come from the lower vents, there is a loud wind noise as the air is trying to force its way around a closed flap. Is this an easy fix or another expensive and problematic trip to the dealer?

The only trouble I've had so far is a very low "clicking" coming from the front driver door speaker when the radio is on. Otherwise, I've enjoyed the vehicle a lot.I am also looking to install my IPOD so that I can play it through the radio...
I've had my 2006 V6 for a few months now and I've encountered a few annoying little problems that I would like more information on before I go to the dealer for my 5000 mile service...
1) Every time I start the car and pull out of the driveway there is a rather loud clicking noise. It sounds like the car is slipping into gear. There is no jolt or hesitation, and you can't feel anything, you just hear the noise. It happens when I go over about 10mph, just once, every time I start up.
2) At higher speeds when I start to accelerate say from 50 to 70 mph there is a high pitched whine. It is like the car is winding up before it takes off.
3) Sometimes there is a clicking noise coming from the dash board. Like an electronic clicking noise when you click on a link in a website. It clicks a dozen times and then stops.
4) One time the radio controls stopped working and the radio control panel started blinking on and off rapidly. After about three minutes everything returned to normal.

View 3 RepliesI have a 1949 Dodge B1-B, which was the half-ton model. Still has the original flathead, straight six engine, been rebuilt twice to my knowledge. Three-speed in the floor. I have done most of the restoration myself, aside from putting in another transmission and swapping out the rear differential, but I am by no means a mechanic with adequate diagnostic equipment; I don't even have a stethoscope.
My problem is this: Over the course of about three days, I noticed a clicking/ticking noise from under the hood which gradually got louder. Once it reached its full noisiness, I noticed a marked loss of power across the board. I have also noticed a little bit more vibration that normal, but only enough to make the mirrors shimmy a bit.
Things I have fixed/replaced since the noise started: -New spark plugs -New condenser coil -New distributor cap -Rebuilt carburetor (it needed to be rebuilt long before the noise started) -New glass-packing for muffler
I have also adjusted the timing with the distributor shaft adjuster and the idle screw, but the ticking doesn't go away.
There has always been a leak in the exhaust system where the manifold meets the pipe, and the heat riser is naturally broken, but these things have always been present and there has never been this ticking noise.
I can get it to idle as low as 250-300rpm, so I don't think it is a fuel issue. And from what I can find online, the easy fix would be that the timing chain needs to be replaced. I am getting this checked by a mechanic on Monday.
I have put maybe 100 miles on it since the noise and power loss started, and it doesn't seem to be getting worse over time. So, what might be causing this?
My truck has this rapid machine gun type start, but not always. It always starts though. I had the alternator tested at O'Reilly auto. They said it was good. I have also been trying to see if there is a possible relation with my clicking sound. I guess it might be more of a steady tapping. I thought it was possibly a lifter. My neighbor that works at one of the quickie lubes said he would take a look. He listened with a screw driver and said he did not here the clicking/tapping sound from the engine.
I showed him how when you accelerate on the gas it gets faster and louder. He said it sounded like it was coming from one of the pulleys. There is no kind of squeaking though, just a loud obnoxious tapping noise. He said that he thought it could be a bearing.I am just trying to think if there is still some kind of alternator relation, because also at times going down the road I notice that the lights on my dash flicker a bit. From looking at all of the pulleys, they all look pretty steady. Although, the crankshaft pulley on the bottom does look like it has just a little wobble. We did not have a long enough screwdriver to listen for the tapping in the pulleys. Also, the serpentine belt is good on it.
