I purchased a new 2015 Toyota Corolla this last June. While installing car seat covers this weekend, I lifted up the backseat and saw a good deal of rust on the hinges and bar that's bolted to the floor. The bolts are shiny and look new. I'm waiting for a call back from the dealership, but wanted to know if this is normal.
View 19 RepliesI just noticed 2 rust spots on the back quarter panel in front of the wheel well on my Corolla. Then I looked on the other side, and found rust in the exact same spot. It looks like the rust is near some bolts that are holding on (what looks like) a small plastic mud flap (I'm not really sure if that is the correct technical name). Anyway, is that normal to have rust in the same spot on both sides, or is it defective? This is the only car I've ever purchased new so I was planning on keeping it, like, FOREVER. I think I've taken pretty good care of it so I plan to have it fixed. Just wondering if I should bring it to Toyota.
View 15 RepliesI have a 2013 Highlander which I purchased new. about a month ago I noticed rust all over my third row seat when I opened it. As I looked I found rust all under the seats and not only on the third row but also the first and second row also. The car is garage kept and has had no leaks. My dealership tells me it is not a Toyota problem.

View 2 RepliesMy son bought a 1996 Toyota Corolla as his first car. There is rust developing on the driver's side door panels, mostly around where the decorative strip is. I am wondering what we can do to stem the tide, so to speak. Hopefully, something simple can be done. We can worry about patching the small areas that have already corroded, but he would like to not have it get worse.

View 1 RepliesI feel with the new design and everything being taller (doors, hood, dash) that you're forced to sit up higher. When I put it in my normal seating position, thigh support quarter way up, and back tilted a bit back, I can't see well over the sides or front. I'm 5'10 with a longer torso.
View 7 RepliesI am considering purchasing a 2011 LX 570 from CarMax and they say this vehicle, an Illinois born and raised truck, has 'extremely minor rust' on the underneath. They say that any vehicle must meet CarMax standards, and they wouldn't sell the truck if it had rusting that was gonna be a problem.
The CarMax folks seem to be pretty straight shooters in my experience so far. My salesperson also said that the level of rust this vehicle had would be present on any 4+ year old truck, regardless of where it was from...
I just picked up a new Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, 2015. It now has about 1,400km on it and I have recently noticed a very annoying high pitched chirping rattle that is coming from somewhere in the back. I hear it inside of the car with me so I don't think there are any issues with the safety of the vehicle itself.
I notice the noise every time I drive, and more-so when the road is uneven. It sounds like a tin or metal object rattling against something else. I am not sure if the noise is coming from the back seats or the back door panels... or maybe even the tailgate. I have been trying to search similar issues but I don't know what else to do. I have a service appointment scheduled at the dealership next week but it seems that issues like this don't really get resolved because the mechanics can't pinpoint where they are coming from... or they can only offer a temporary fix. I really do not want my back seats or door panels removed so I am trying to pinpoint where the noise is coming from myself before I take it in so I can explain it to the mechanic in more detail...
When I took someone for a ride and he sat in the back seat to try and listen to the noise, it seemed to die down in sound quite a bit so that leads me to believe the seats may be the issue.
Wife is 5' tall and can't see out the windshield sitting in the passenger seat. No ability to raise seat, can go back and forth but not up. We had a 2010 Highlander SE and did not have this problem. Now she hates this car.
View 1 RepliesWe bought a 2015 Corolla LE Plus this past weekend. The tank went from full to ¾ full after 38 miles of city driving. The onboard MPG calculator said it was getting 16 MPG (it’s rated 29 city/38 highway. When we took it back to the dealer the sales consultant said that’s normal – that it would improve after it got “broken in”. The car mechanic who I have taken all my Toyotas to and who has only worked on Toyota for the last 30 years says plus or minus a couple MPGs would be reasonable but not minus 13 MPG.
We drove it another 400 miles to “break it in” and during this breakin period it did get close to 38 MPG when we drove on the highway. Then I topped off the tank with gas, recorded the odometer mileage, zeroed out the onboard trip mileage recorder and the MPG calculator and my wife drove 61 city mileage. The onboard MPG calculator said it was getting 16.8 MPG and 61 miles divided by th3 3.854 that it took to top it off again = 15.8 MPG. Either way I don’t think the mileage should be this bad.
What is making the rattling noise on my 2015 Toyota Camry XSE on the passenger side?? It only happens when I drive through cobblestone roads at low speeds or some bumpy roads. It sounds like a water bottle in the cup holder when its makes that rattling sound. I was thinking it's the A-pillar cover on the passenger side.
View 7 RepliesAm I still the only one with an irritating scrunchy sound coming from the left bolster of the driver's seat back?
When the temperature is above 0 Celsius the bolster makes a scrunchy squeak every time I lean back, accelerate, or take off from a stop.
It would appear to be the supplemental air bag material rubbing against the foam or upholstery of the seat.
Toyota says this should be under warranty, but it has been too cold out lately to demonstrate to the service dept.
I know that I could fix it by removing the factory seat cover and tweaking the air bag placement somewhat, but this is not as easy as it sounds, potentially dangerous, and if it is under warranty, I'd prefer the "experts" to address the problem.
Does the memory seat function remembers the back position (angle)? Or does it just remember the height and forward/backward position of the seat? The back angle position is not remembered in my 2014 Avalon Limited but I am not sure whether I should report this as a problem or whether that is just the design.

View 2 RepliesI have a Toyota Corolla with 78K miles and when braking, a squealing noise came from the back when braking at low speeds. So I figured it was worn brake shoes, I took it to the mechanic but he said both the front and back brakes are good. I had him change both front and back anyway.
Now the squealing noise is gone but there is a still a noise...it sounds like the drum is rusted. It sounds like the noise in this video: [URL] .... (48 sec mark)
Do you think it's the drum or something else? How much would changing the drum (both sides) cost? Do I need to get new brake shoes also?

View 13 RepliesI am a first time Toyota car owner. I bought a 2010 Toyota Corolla LE this past Saturday. It has only 42,000 miles on it, and I got a pretty decent deal on it! I'm still getting used to how the car drives, but it seems to be running great. The only thing I notice sometimes is that I am coasting downhill (not using the brakes) I notice a bit of a vibration sound coming from what sounds like the back windshield. If it keeps occurring, I might take it to the dealer for them to check it out. With my luck, the issue might not even happen though with them there.
View 4 RepliesWhile driving our 1990 toyota corolla (3-speed automatic transmission) on the freeway recently, the car gave a slight jerk, at which point my husband looked at the gas gauge and noticed it was well below "E".. Oops. fortunately, there was an exit right there with a gas station. Filled up and we were off toward the next on-ramp. Got to about 35-40 mph, and all of a sudden the car literally just stopped moving forward after violently jerking back and forth several times. We then tried to put in neutral and push it to the side, but it wouldn't even do that. Everything was locked up, seized solid. Somehow we managed to get it to the side.
The flatbed tow truck took us home, and all we could do by that point was move a foot or two in reverse after it dropped us off... fast forward... After several days/weeks of it sitting around we can now actually drive it forward! reverse! but we haven't taken it out of the driveway to go more than 5 mph.. We had seen some fluid leaking prior to this incident, but could NOT figure out where it was coming from despite checking obvious fluids meticulously every couple of days. A friend said it might have been the diff fluid? We'd like to fix the car, but to repair a tranny on this old car (although it only has 67K miles!!!) is too expensive. My husband wants to make it a weekend project.
My wife has been letting me know that the car has this grinding-like noise only in the morning when she leaves and it's fine for the rest of the day. I did some google-ing to find that this might be due to thin layer of brake rust and the initial 'grind' is just it wearing off and why we don't hear it again for the rest of the day. It happened this morning and we did get rain/snow yesterday and she drove home in that and once home hasn't touched the car till this morning. The last time she mentioned this I think it snowed the day the car was parked. I drove the car all last weekend and didn't notice anything, but it was also dry out. Is this something that I should be concerned about or something to be aware of on a new-ish car?
