I just noticed the 4 wheel drive on my 2000 Chevy S10 doesn't seem to be engaging. The traction doesn't get any better turning it on and the other day I got stuck on a hill and the back wheels weren't spinning. What I can check or look at to fix it?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2000 F-150 4x4 and the four wheel drive isn't working properly. It does work,but to get it to engage I had to drive in reverse for a couple feet then it locked it and everything was fine,pretty sure that isn't normal. What could be wrong with it? As soon as I turn the lights up on the dash,but the front tires don't spin.
View 1 RepliesI have read through the folders and many websites on 4x4 problems. My problem has to deal with my four wheel drive not wanting to engage. It has nothing to do with the front end or solenoids. When I put it into 4x4, hi or low it will not send any power to my transfer case motor. It wont even illuminate any lights on the selector switch. I have checked all fuses and replaced any relays that have to do with the 4x4. Where I should go with this?
View 7 RepliesI have a 2005 F-150 with ESOF. When I turn the switch to 4x4 or 4low the lights on the dash will turn on but the front tires will not turn. I checked all the fuses and they were good. I'm not very familiar with this 4x4 system, what the issue is or on how to fix it?

View 6 RepliesMy 4 wheel drive is not engaging on a 2001 F150. The indicator lites on the dash illuminate to suggest that the truck is in 4 wheel drive but sigh...it stays in 2 wheel drive. No gross sounds and the indicator lights are not flashing. Could this be a fuse or a relay issue of some sort. What else should I try?
View 3 RepliesMy 2011 F350 is not engaging 4wheel drive from the dash switch. When I turn it to either hi or lo it says "shift in process" but no 4 WD. It will engage manually from the hub lock, no problem. I know very little about 4wheel drive but am otherwise mechanically knowledgeable.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2000 chevy malibu that has not had a/c the past 2 summers. I'm trying to diagnose what the problem could be. When I start the car and then turn on the a/c by pressing the button in the car nothing seems to happen.
When I went to look at the compressor motor I could see that the clutch is not engage and the middle of the compressor is not turning. What to check without taking to a mechanic??

This service light came on 2 weeks ago. The next day, the car seemed to be trying to switch from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive. Took it to the dealer who found nothing. We drove the car for 2 days without any service lights coming on. Then the switching ( 2 to 4 WD) started again, but this time the transmission would not go above 1st gear. Pulled over and turned off the engine, then tried to restart it. Nothing. Dead. A few minutes later, we go it back home. Had CAA tow it back to the dealer. It's been a week and they found nothing. They are looking for engine codes that would explain the problem.
Is this an electrical problem or a sensor issue?
I own a 2002 Chev. small blazer with 4 wheel drive available. Largest V-6 available. There is a clunk sound I can hear and feel as this vehicle is shifting OUT of 4 wheel into 2 wheel drive. Going from 2 to 4 wheel drive is perfect. First mechanic (test drove alone) said he would have to tear apart the front transfer case to determine fault. 2nd mechanic (with me along) did power brake slow turns in parking lot. Said the electric shifter was bad and would have to tear apart the transfer case also. Neither mechanic put the vehicle up on a hoist.
View 2 RepliesMy son has a 2000 S10 that runs alright as long as he only drives it about 20 miles one way, the problem seems to occur after he goes on longer trips, closer to a 45 or 60 mile drive, and it seems to happen when he comes to a stop, at a red light, or stop sign, the other day I drove it to my daughters house which is a 45 minute drive, we stopped several times, before I made it to her house, just when I though we were going to make it with no problems, I come to a stop at a red light, when I start to pull off the truck becomes so sluggish, that the truck motor can barely keep running, when I let off of the gas it seemed to pick up power, but every time I pressed the gas it would bog back down, I barely made it across the intersection, trying to get to a parking lot, when the power is just to low to pull any more, so I leave it running, but put it in park, so my wife can get behind the wheel, thinking, that if she presses the gas, while I push it, we can make it to the parking lot.
Well as soon as I got behind the truck, I tell her to put it in gear, and press the gas, while I push, well the truck takes off and she drives it in the parking lot, I walk on up to were she had parked, there was a burned rubbery, or oil smell coming from the truck, not should which, I’m checking everything out, when I take the power steering cap off, it releases air out of it, like there was press build up in it, after that I crank the truck back up, and drive it to my daughters house, and back home with no more problems, the check engine light came on when this happen, but has now gone back out, now, like nothing is wrong, what could cause this? I have check everything maintenance wise and everything is in good working order it doesn't run hot, it has the right oil pressure and amount of oil in it, has the right amount of transmission fluid and power steering fluid, I took it to a mechanic, but he said he didn't find anything wrong with it, and told me to just drive it, till what ever was causing this tore up.
Our 2007 Chevy Tahoe 4 X 4 recently displayed a "Service Four Wheel Drive" panel light a couple of days ago (upon ignition on a sunny, dry day). The light had been steady which, when we read the owners manual, indicates a problem but no immediate service required. One of the possible solutions was to remove and close the gas cap in case it had been incorrectly closed during the last gas-up. That did not work. Yesterday, during a snow storm, I tried using the 4WD. The dial would move to the different settings, but no 4WD activated and no light illuminated indicating which gear it was in (2WD, Auto, 4H, 4L). We checked the fuse for the 4WD but it is OK.
View 5 RepliesI bought a 2000 Excursion XLT, 4x4 with the 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel back in the fall. Here in Indiana the winter is getting bad, not exactly the best time to find out your 4x4 doesn't work! My 4x4 light comes on, but I can tell I'm not in four wheel drive. I've read that on the diesels that the fix could be a simple vacuum line.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo that has me stumped as to why it leaks. The driver side axle seal leaks fluid only after a drive. I have replaced the axle twice and seal 6 times and it still leaks. I am stumped on this one. Unless I got a bad axle twice that the diameter of the sealing surface is too small but didn't seem like it as the seal hugs the shaft.

View 1 RepliesI have the ESOF in a 2000 Excursion. I went to use 4X4 high and it would not give me 4 wheel drive. light on dash said 4X4 but no 4 wheel drive. I was in snow and only rear wheels spun. When switch is placed in 4X4 low I get 4 wheel drive.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2000 ford f-150 4 wheel drive that will not disengage, I am down here in south fla where and don't put it in 4 wheel drive much, but yesterday I put in 4 wheel drive and I heard the click click and it engaged I put it in drive and drove it about 5-10 miles parked it and turned the switch to 2 wheel high and got out , got back in the truck turn her back on and the 4 by 4 lamp came one went off then came back on and stayed on and it still in 4 wheel drive and wont disengage.
View 4 RepliesI'm driving a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup, 5 spd manual, with about 133k miles on. Truck has been great for the 11 years I've owned it. I've had this problem for a while, and for some reason am only getting around to it now, as I've never directly asked a mechanic to fix it or diagnose it. I think because it didn't seem urgent, and out of fear I'll get the runaround on what it actually is.
But now, what was once just a sort of "groaning sound" when I turned the wheel, has now actually turned into some tightness in the wheel itself -- especially if the car is cold or hasn't moved in a while. Here's a video clip of the sound: [URL]...
I suspect it's a problem with the power steering fluid system. I've been parallel parking for years, and don't know if that's what's had an impact.
My transmission had no slipping was running fine . Oil level was ok , recently added 1/2 quart , cause it has some small leaks. I go to drive away other day and none of the drive gears or reverse would engage. Mechanic thinks transmission locked up . Kind of hard to condemn my old baby considering it was running fine .
Would the TCC solenoid do this or the ECU ? I recently reinstalled the bar going to starter that was disconnected for 5+ years because i was having slow crank issues. This transmission problem occurred 2 days later. I am thinking it might have made the ECU unit go bad , since the starter had not a good ground for so long ?
I recently bought 2007 ES 350 drove @700+ miles, 2 times I had this incident in this week, the latest is today. In cold morning when I try to drive the vehicle when it is cold when I pull the lever to drive mode the accelerator increases the RPM but the car is not rolling or I should say very very snail pace, so I tried pushing the lever back to park, then reverse drive the vehicle and then engage to drive mode it works fine but I hear lot of fan sound. For initial few min I feel that it is not picking up much speed but then it becomes normal. It really tensed me. What action can be taken to resolve this?
As per the Autocheck report this was manufactured in Jun 2006 and the vehicle service records from Lexus web there is no sign of any transmission problem or fix to transmission. The car has 100K+ miles on it.
2010 Prius 52K miles... Not engaging in Drive or Reverse, Engine is not starting either. Got Message - Put in park , All the lights are ON , in the Dash .
