I have a 2005 F-150 with ESOF. When I turn the switch to 4x4 or 4low the lights on the dash will turn on but the front tires will not turn. I checked all the fuses and they were good. I'm not very familiar with this 4x4 system, what the issue is or on how to fix it?
View 3 RepliesI have read through the folders and many websites on 4x4 problems. My problem has to deal with my four wheel drive not wanting to engage. It has nothing to do with the front end or solenoids. When I put it into 4x4, hi or low it will not send any power to my transfer case motor. It wont even illuminate any lights on the selector switch. I have checked all fuses and replaced any relays that have to do with the 4x4. Where I should go with this?
View 7 RepliesMy '05 F150 (92,000 mi) 4 wheel seems like it is engaging and disengaging when activated. Makes a clunking sound on light acceleration then quits when I back off the gas. Not sure if it is engaged then or not. I noticed this on a gravel road when I had turned 4x4 on to distribute oil around the system since I had not used it in a while. What it might be and if it is any easy fix or a trip to the shop.

View 7 RepliesI have a 2000 F-150 4x4 and the four wheel drive isn't working properly. It does work,but to get it to engage I had to drive in reverse for a couple feet then it locked it and everything was fine,pretty sure that isn't normal. What could be wrong with it? As soon as I turn the lights up on the dash,but the front tires don't spin.

View 6 RepliesMy 4 wheel drive is not engaging on a 2001 F150. The indicator lites on the dash illuminate to suggest that the truck is in 4 wheel drive but sigh...it stays in 2 wheel drive. No gross sounds and the indicator lights are not flashing. Could this be a fuse or a relay issue of some sort. What else should I try?
View 3 RepliesMy 2011 F350 is not engaging 4wheel drive from the dash switch. When I turn it to either hi or lo it says "shift in process" but no 4 WD. It will engage manually from the hub lock, no problem. I know very little about 4wheel drive but am otherwise mechanically knowledgeable.

View 1 RepliesI have a 2006 F150 4x4 5.4L 43000mi. My four wheel drive is not working. I have the dash mounted switch to switch it into 4x4 Hi 4x4 Low. When I put the switch into 4x4 Hi nothing happens. 4x4 does not engage, and the 4x4 Hi light on the dash does not illuminate. I get the same symptom when the switch is placed into 4x4 Low. I have checked all of the 4x4 fuses and they are ok. I checked all of the vacuum lines to the hubs and they appear to be intact. What I should check next? What would cause this?

View 3 RepliesI have a 07 f150 and while driving I have a vibration only in 4wheel drive high but not a bad one but when I take my foot off the throttle it gets worse as well as a rumbling sound!! this is only after a 6" lift was installed it seems and I have replaced both front drive shaft u joints thinking that was the problem but didn't solve the problem....
View 2 RepliesI have lost drive and overdrive. I have first and second and when I let off the gas pedal everything seems normal. When I am in drive with overdrive switched off and keep a steady speed it doesn't shift into drive. When I let off the gas in drive the tach goes to 1k and its like I'm in neutral. If I switch OD on it's like neutral and the engine revs. I have pulled the pan and valve body and do not see any metal.
OD snap ring is intact. Fluid looks good with no burnt smell...I'm thinking shifting solenoids but have not tested them yet. There is no grinding noise at all and no slipping in first and second gears. It threw cam sensors codes and I replaced both but I think that was from the neutral condition and test drove before dropping the pans and still no shifting to drive or OD. No transmission codes...
I made a big mistake, I was cleaning out my truck and accidentally switched my 4 wheel drive to the 4 low position. Not knowing this I started the truck and just drove it all day. Then I noticed my mistake and now the truck will not shift into either 4 high or 4 low!
The truck drives just fine, I feel no pull when I turn to the left or right so it seems that it never did any shifting into 4 high or 4 low, so I'm looking for recommendations on maybe how to fix?
(2004 f150 S.Crew 4x4) I noticed that my 4 wheel drive is not working. The front hubs won't lock in. The transfer case will go into 4 low but the hubs still won't lock in.
Anyway, I have pulled vacuum on both actuators and one of them won't hold. It's obviously bad, but is that why I don't have 4x4? It seems to me like it is not...
When I pull a vacuum on the actuator that does hold, it disengages the hub from the driveshaft allowing free-wheeling. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when the truck is running in 2wd, vacuum must flow to the actuators preventing the hubs from engaging? The actuator on the bad side is locked 'in' so the driveshaft always turns.
According to my train of thought, since the actuator has failed in the 'locked in' position, I should still have 4x4- What am I missing?
I have a 2005 Ford F-150 with a 4.6L and auto tranny non 4 wheel drive. I have a hard time moving from park to drive and reverse. Is there a switch that lets you put it in gear once the brake pedal is depressed? Could that have gone bad?
View 5 RepliesI have a 2005 Ford F-150 with a 5.4L V8 engine. Few months ago I started getting this squeaking noise coming from the front tires when I turn the wheel. I took it to the mechanic and he said the ball joints need to be replaced. Do you think it's the only reason why this is happening? If not, what else? The noise is pretty bad and the ball joints have never been replaced before.

Sounded like the transfer case wasn't fully engaged.
This was after doing numerous 3 point turns on a dead end road to turn around. A real nightmare, cliffs on one side mountain on the other.
when we got back to relativity flat ground it ran fine with no more "clunking" noises.
It has 95K of hard miles on it. We didn't want to get stuck out of cell phone range, so we headed home.
Do a 2004 Saturn view front wheel drive transmission will fit in place of an all wheel drive...

What happened is my check engine light came on maybe 6 months ago and I took it to have it looked at and they were closing but the guy told me don't worry about it and I be ok until I come back and it probably wasn't a big deal. The light went off a day or two so I didn't worry about it. It came on about a week ago and I haven't had time to take it in yet. So here is the chain of events-
Check engine light (6 months ago approx)Check engine light off (couple days later)
Check engine light (1-2 weeks ago)
Put my car in drive, transmission didn't engage right away. I thought I had it in neutral by mistake. then it engaged.(about a week ago)
Same thing happened last night except it took longer for it to kick in and when I ran into the store and came out, it backed up ok but wouldn't go in drive right away. I thought it was because it was freezing) out and maybe needed to warm up better. (we had a terrible ice storm here in Washington).
