I own a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and when I step on the brakes (how hard I apply the breaks it does not matter - it always happens at low speeds) it makes a loud noise as if the disk brake is not well secured on its mount and the breaking action is forcefully shaking it off its mount.
View 2 Repliesyesterday I drove my car and as I was turning the corner (luckily very slowly), all of a sudden I heard a loud noise and the car stopped. The rack pinion, wheel housing and what ever other things there are dropped to the ground because they were rusted through. Never had a warning. Is that a problem with these Fords, of course the car is totaled. Does insurance cover this, does Ford cover this? First time in my life, never buy another Ford again. Also have a Ford focus 2008, looks rusty underneath. Should I get rid of it ?

I was driving down the freeway and I decided to step on it and it made a loud hum sound and it had a vibration I could feel through the pedal. It was so loud and aggressive I pulled off the road to see if something came apart. Everything looked ok and all my bolts and such are tight. Is this normal?
View 13 RepliesI had a 2008 Prius. I travel to a town which is at 7300 feet sea level. When up in the altitude and when I step on the brakes, I hear a clicking or Ping. When I get back to Phoenix, it goes away. I talked to the local dealer in the mountains and he said he has had several people ask him about this. He asked the Toyota Tech experts and they cannot tell him why this is happening. I now have a 2012 Prius and the same thing happens.

View 1 RepliesOK so this issue first started in July on way back from Florida the brakes started going to the floor. You did have normal braking power, but you had to about stand on them. Took it to mechanic who cleaned and adjusted brakes, after that they seemed to work fine. Fast forward to a month later, I was going over some train tracks with a somewhat heavy load, I braked when going over them, right after that it seemed the brakes went about half way before braking. I took it back to same mechanic who said it's now either the Master Cylinder, or ABS module. I have found so many conflicting posts on this I'm not sure which way to go. I'd really hate to spend $400 on MC, and then it turns out to be ABS. There is also a swooshing noise when you depress brake.

I recently replaced wheel bearing on Front driver side, the noise was present before replacement. When I step on the brakes I hear a squeaking sound like a rubber bushing squeaking, also it changes as the wheels turn. I have also cleaned the brake rotor but have not had it turned for being warped, could this be the piston seal in the caliper or pins.
I drive a 1998 Civic hatchback. Last night while I was driving I needed some gas. I pulled into a station and the only gas they had available was 93 (highest octane). I only ever fill up with 87 or whatever the lowest grade is, so I put 2 gallons in to get me to my destination and the opportunity to find another gas station. Shortly after, I was back on the highway and the engine starts making a loud rattling pinging noise when I step on the gas. I normally might have a low rattle or ping that I've never been able to get rid of, but never loud like this.
Then a few things happened– smoke starts coming out the exhaust, the check engine light comes on, and the car starts to overheat. Seems like it was pretty much all at once, although it was in that order that I noticed... I rolled the windows down and turn the heat on high, but the air coming through the system wasn't at all hot. I got off the highway and as I downshifted, the engine started to smoke a little. I get to the end of the off-ramp and the engine dies. It wouldn't start back up right away but I managed to start it a couple of times (between it dying) to get it to coast into a parking lot. Under the hood, there was coolant everywhere it seemed, but I couldn't see anything else apparently wrong– hoses, etc.
In the end I had AAA tow it home. So, what happened and what I'm looking at now in terms of repairs? I will need to have it towed again to a mechanic if it is something I can't figure out myself.
I just had my front brake pads replaced by a local shop. I am now hearing a clunking noise every time I step on the brakes. I got the brake pads from the local Lexus Dealership but had them installed by a local shop. Is it normal to have this clunking for the first couple hundred miles until the brakes "wear" in or do I need to have someone else look at the brakes?
View 3 Replies2001 escape 3.0 engine is giving me a headache. It starts and will idle no problem but as soon as I step on the gas the engine sputters and coughs but it does race up. I put in new intake seals, new sparks plugs and a tps and cleaned the maf sensor. It shows no codes so what am I missing? Can it be a fuel system problem ?? what should I be looking for??

Getting a pretty loud "whirring" or humming noise from under the car while driving 30+ mph. It seems like a wheel bearing noise, but coming from directly under the center console area. My thoughts are either the driveshaft center support or the transfer case, I can't find much on it though.
I've had my 07 HD F150 into the dealer a few times for this issue and they have not been able to repair it. When I use the brakes especially at higher speeds you can feel them turning like a warped rotor, sometimes it will make the steering wheel shake. It does it with both my summer tires (22") and my winter tires (17"). Even at slow speeds you can feel it.
The dealer keeps checking and says that the fronts are fine, last time they machined the rear rotors and said it was fixed. To me the fronts look pretty grooved but they keep saying they are fine. Which didn't make sense to me. The truck stops well and has good feel and power but I get this warped rotor feeling. Is the dealer missing something?
Whenever Im driving at slower speeds - parking lots, side streets, etc I get a squeaking/squelching sound coming from somewhere in the front end of the truck. I thought at first it may have been a rattling heat shield someplace under the truck, but now Im not so sure. No loss of power, check engine light, or anything of that nature has occurred so Im not sure what to do. Its a 2010 Ford F150 XLT 4wd ....
View 5 RepliesI have a 2012 F-150 4x4 super crew all factory with 54,000 mi. I've noticed a new noise/hum at slower speeds, more frequent now. The noise doesn't sound like its from the front or back specifically. I pulled the front wheels this evening and the front rotors seem pretty tight, how easily should they turn with vehicle off for about 30 min? I started it and pushed and released the brake and quickly tried to turn them, very tight, after a minute or two they relaxed a little, another 5 min they seemed tighter? I sharpie mark on both inside and outside of the rotor and turned it past the pads and they are both squeezing equally ruling out binding of the slider bolts.
View 3 RepliesOne my F350 with 175,000 miles on it, at low speeds when turning the steering wheel it seems as if it has two places during use that it rubs or has an oblong spot in it. I have 285 tires on it and have for years.
Kind of like if you were turning a shaft in a seal and it rubbed or was rough. It makes a faint, muffled, barely audible grinding noise or feel. I have a lift and level of about 4" and 285s for years. This just started in the last 5 months or so.
A while back I posted a thread trying to fix a clicking noise coming from the front end on my F-350 dually when applying the brakes at slow speeds (under 15 mph).
While returning from our camping trip last week the noise is back again. It does not occur after the truck sits overnight or for a few hours. But after driving for 30 minutes or longer the clicking will return when I apply the brakes at slow speeds. I tested the rotor temps with a heat gun and it seems to start when the rotor temps get above 120 degrees F. So I removed the brake pads & calipers, regreased the slide pins, cleaned up the pads and applied some lubricant on the back of the pads. I also bent the pad clips so they would fit snugger/tighter in the slots.
Whatever I did seemed to cure the clicking while driving around this weekend. I made sure I got the front brakes nice and warm - up to 180 degrees or so.
When I did this same procedure a few months ago the clicking went away - but eventually returned.
Should I get some better clips? Replace the sliding pins? Pads? The rotors & pads were replaced this winter & the shop said they and the labor are still under warranty. But if they use the same clips - I'm concerned I'll be back to square one in a month or so.
Tires have less than 10,000 miles on them, and air pressure is within 2 lbs left to right side.
New calipers.
New soft lines.
New hard lines.
New pads.
New rotors.
New ball joints.
New tie rod ends and center link.
New front axle universals.
Brake fluid and all other parts are less than 6 months old. I can let go of the wheel and the truck tracks straight, 10mph to 100 mph. Whether I am going 10 mph, or 100 mph, when i first step on the brakes the truck jumps right. Needless to say, the faster i am going, the worse it jumps.
After first brake application, truck tracks straight. Let go of the wheel and it tracks straight from 100mph to a dead stop with brakes applied after the initial jump. Whether I am hard on the brakes or gentle, it does not pull at all. Only on the initial step on the brakes.I am at a loss as to what the heck is wrong with it.
I have an 08 escape v-6 fwd. i recently started hearing a clicking noise in the steering column. Seems to be getting worse and more noticeable. Front end seems normal. This clicking seems to be coming from right under the steering column cover near the turn signal area.
View 4 RepliesAbout 3 weeks ago, I noticed the SUV would occasional make a loud "CLICK" sound in the front steering area, usually if I made a fast turn motion (either left or right).
So today I put it up on a ramp and took a look and it's obvious there's a part in there that is coming loose. I don't know what the names of the stuff is in there, so I'm posting a photo with arrows & letters so people can tell me what's what, and also what to do.
I tried putting a vise grip on it and tightening it with a ratchet wrench on the top part (16mm), but the lower nut just spins. I decided to not go any further because I really don't know what that assembly is, what it does, if it's broke, etc.
My 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid (manual) makes a loud squealing noise (between the speeds of about 25 and 45. It usually starts making the noise once the car has warmed up (but does not always make the noise). It makes the noise when the car is coasting but not when I accelerate or brake. The noise seems to be coming from somewhere in the front end.
View 6 RepliesLove my 2012 TDI SEL. Lately I have noticed that it seems that the AC cuts out when I step on the brakes. I typically notice when I get off the freeway and come to a stop at the end of the off-ramp. The air coming out of the vents will be warm for some 5 - 10 seconds then get cold again.
I have also noticed this symptom from time to time when cruising along on the freeway. I know that some cars will disengage the AC if you really step hard on the gas, but that's not what's going on here it seems..... I have never had that happen in any other car. Is this normal for the 2012 Passat?
