I have a 2012 Kia Soul with 27,000 miles and the clutch needs replacing. I've driven standard transmission vehicles for 45 years (sad to say) and have never had a worn clutch. How can I tell if the original clutch truly is worn or is defective? This is rather critical if it's the former (i.e. worn), I'm out $1400.00; if it's defective, the manufacturer pays.
View 1 RepliesI am currently driving a 2005 Elantra (manual trans) with only 48k miles on it. Less than a year after buying the car new the clutch had to be replaced (around 10k miles) and now the second clutch is about to go as well. I do not ride the clutch or drive like a maniac so there is no reason to be on a second clutch at 48k, let alone a third one. Is there anything I can do besides putting a new clutch in to protect against this problem in the future? Also, would installing a stronger, high-performance clutch work?

View 2 RepliesI just notice that two of my tires, all of them Michelin Energy™ Saver A/S tires, seems to be worn out after 10K mile usage. However, when I look these tires at the Michelin web site, it states that these tires have a 64K mile warranty. Also if I decided that two of my tires, all Michelin Energy™ Saver A/S tires, need replacement, could I just replace the two worn out tires or all 4 tires?
View 14 RepliesJust had 30,000 km service done and was told the rear disc brake pads are almost completely worn out. The front ones are hardly worn and I'm not a fierce type driver who jams on the brakes or one who leaves the handbrake on..
I asked the service manager how come the rears are worn yet the fronts aren't - his answer was sometimes this happens.
I bought my 2013 Kia Soul last October. There were times when it wouldn't start, and just seemed dead. It would start after a few tries, but one day, that didn't work either. I walked the battery to an auto parts place to get a new one, but when they tested it, they said it's full of charge. So, I walked back, put it in the car, and the car started. This happened a few more times, so I took it in for a new starter. They said nothing was wrong with the starter, so I paid the diagnostic and got in the car, but it wouldn't start for me to leave the repair shop.
So, they put in a new starter. I had no problems for a couple of months, but it's happening again. When it does it, everything shuts off, not just the engine, but the lights and everything. I have been lucky that the car is light and easy to push, so I can get it somewhere that it's pointing downhill. Once I get it rolling, everything comes back on, and I drive away. This seems like a common problem, because, when I was in college, I remember guys on my street who had cheap cars they had to start by rolling them. But, they had old beaters. Mine is only 3 years old. What is going on?
I was having problems starting my 2010 Kia Soul after adding gas. Didn't matter if I was filling it or just adding $10. No one knew what the problem was. I called a guy who used to fix my cars years ago and he immediately told me to go get a Canister Purge Valve. He put it in in under 10 minutes and my car starts every time now.
View 3 RepliesFirst of all this is also my first camry and I noticed that there is only 1 reservoir for the slave and the brakes - which is unique to cars Ive owned in the past. My question is when I remove my slave cylinder from the trans and unhook the hard lines from it would this introduce air into the brake lines since they share the same reservoir? Should I remove the brake fluid from the reservoir before I disconnect the slave? I am wondering because If i just disconnect the lines brake fluid will leak from them between the time I disconnect the old slavecyl and hook the new one up.
Also regarding the trans fluid. my le has 80,000 miles on it and I am not sure whether or not the previous owner ever changed it before. I am having a hard time finding information about how much fluid and exactly which fluid to use. All I know is that gl-4 is the safest choice, butis it ok to use red line mt-90 or amsoil MTF? I dont want to ruin the trans by putting in the wrong fluid and/or wrong quantity.
I am looking for a how to vid or resource on doing the job right. I purchased the complete replacement master cylinder from Napa. 2002 7.3 Powerstroke
View 3 RepliesSome fool with a tow hook must have backed into my rear bumper this morning because the black plastic spoiler is pushed in pretty bad on the left corner (to the left of the exhaust). Before I have it replaced, I want to have a go at banging it back in place, but the dent is at the crease and I can't do it in situ. Is there a DIY about removing the spoiler (the lower black plastic half of the cover)? Or if not, one for dropping the whole bumper? There seem to be a bunch on the GTi and Passat but none for Tiggy.

View 1 RepliesI have a 2012 F250 King Ranch with the FX4 package. I have a goose neck ball and have recently bought a 37' fifth wheel. The rear of my truck sits a touch lower than the front and anytime I'm hooked to a trailer it looks to be squatted way down. It actually is dropping maybe 3". I am looking to replace the shocks which are Rancho's as I have 55k miles on. I'm wondering about shock types, air bags, springs??? Just don't know what my best option is.
View 9 RepliesIt's been a while, but my clutch has been really stiff for a while now. I don't think it was always this stiff. My mother has the same car and her clutch is really "light" and is very easy to press in. While mine is about as stiff as my friends corvette.... Is it just normal in that all clutches feel different or could something be wrong?
View 2 RepliesI've been having some issues with my car lately, 2012 Accent 1.6 manual transmission 36,000km aprox. The RPM climbs after I release the clutch, for example I'm going from 1st gear to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd or any change of gears around 2,500rpm and when I release the clutch the RPM climbs to 2,800 or so and stays like that a couple of seconds, today the RPM climbed from 2,500 to 3,000-3,200 and stayed like that again for a couple of seconds.

View 1 RepliesI have just about 1500 miles on my recently purchased 2012 GTI. Yesterday, a 'click' started to come from the clutch pedal every time I depressed it. It occurs in about the first 2 inches of travel, and I can actually feel it on the bottom of my foot. It does not happen on the pedal's return.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2012 Golf R 6 Speed manual, Just noticed that my clutch was Slipping in fifth gear when I give it gas. What clutch kit is recommended. It is the first time I have a VW and dont really know what will work better on it. Mods are Full catless downpipe and exhaust, Injen air intake and Revo stage 2 tune, ST Coilovers and NICHE Bronze wheels. Podi boost gauge and AEM wideband. I put down 285hp and 310TQ at Dyno jet 2 weeks ago I was kind of suprise expected a bit more but maybe the clutch was going bad already.

View 13 RepliesI bought my Hyundai new in late 2011. No problems with the car (other than no spare tire???) until just out of the warranty (63,000). Had a noticeable drop in power on the highway. No warning lights. Drove another 100 miles with power intermittently dropping. Next day engine light comes on. $800 later I have a new high pressure fuel pump. All seems well. after a few weeks, I notice that the car seems to be revving when I depress the clutch to change gears, like up to 4000 rpm's. If I leave the clutch in for a few seconds it will begin to decrease. But if I shift right into gear as I have done for the last 35 years of driving, it is not smooth, jerky. This seems to happen mostly going into 2,3, and 4th gear, always going up. It never happens when downshifting. I tried tapping the brakes when shifting up, and sometimes it does seems to drop the rpm's. What it might be. It probably is related to the work that was done, but I don't really trust the dealer and want to have a little info going in.
