The ABS light is NOT on! Every once in a while, if braking lightly, the ABS kicks in. That is the only symptom of any problems at all.
My first thought is could this be a bad ground at the EBCM or does it look like my BCM is on it's way out? I am wrong all together it the problem is something else?
I just did the brakes on all four wheels of my 06. I replaced the rotors and pads all the way around with Powerstop parts. I got them from RockAuto.COM as a complete set. The rotors were made in China generic looking things and the pads were Powerstop Evolution Ceramic Disc Brake pads.
Anyhow, I drove around to bed the brakes after getting them installed and now the passenger front tire as a small "rotational squeal" when you are lightly braking.
Oh, one more thing, I'll admit this up front. I did not put any grease on the back of the pads. This was mostly due to I wasn't sure exactly where or how much grease to use.
My 2007 with 58k on it started making the sound of a 'ratchet clankety clank' about at 56k while lightly braking with regen around 8-13 mph (slow and quiet enough to hear it best) and while turning slightly or more to the right. If I'm on a hill and can maintain the conditions, the sound will continue.
I've spent many a night searching here and elsewhere, learned a lot about strut and cv noises etc. At 57k I took it to a dealer who has a very nice service dept and they rode with me, agreed that they heard it, checked out the cv by hand (my first suspicion) and said all felt fine, that it was recorded at least (my concern being near 60k, std warranty).
What's that noise coming from the front end driver side. About 2 months ago Firestone replaced my 06 Vibe 5 speed manual base brakes, rotors, calipers, brake line & fluid replaced. The car is still making a noise when braking at low speeds. It generally happens after the cars been driven awhile or when warm. It sounds like metal on metal scraping. I can also feel vibration in the steering wheel when braking, is it possible that the hub bearing is going. I had the bearing replaced on the passengers side 2 years ago. Doesn't quite sound like the first bearing replacement. I took it back to shop and they replaced the brakes again when they replaced and flushed the lines. The problem is by the time they get to the car it's cooled down and they don't hear the sound. Should I have the hub wheel bearing replaced or is it something else.
View 3 RepliesThe annoying buzzing from the brake booster check valve that comes from the left of the instrument panel when lighly braking (especially when parked or waiting at a traffic light) is a well-known problem, as it was the subject of a Lexus (and Toyota) TSB for 2004-2010 models(see link below to the clublexus link), and has been discussed on many forums for Lexus and other cars.
I just bought a new 2012 RX 350 last month, and within a week it started making this buzzing noise (left instrument panel upon light braking). I took the car to the dealer and without listening they said that they knew it was the brake booster valve (the noise is the rattling of a ball bearing when the valve is malfunctioning). They replaced the valve and the noise went away (the loaner RX they gave me made the noise even worse).
Well, 3 weeks later, the noise has returned!
Hearing a sloshing scraping thumping sound coming from their 36 gallon tank under hard braking accelerating? It's loudest when the tank is between 200 and 150 miles to empty, I checked the spare tire and its tight, haven't had a chance to crawl under and look around yet though, I think something inside came loose. 2013 XLT.
View 2 RepliesMy car recently started running overtemp not much, but enough to bother me. I flushed the system with no change. after about a week with continued symptoms, my trans started shifting hard between 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, and running rough in general, sputtering lightly in high gear. I assumed it was running over temp with the rest of the car, so I replaced the radiator and the radiator cap, yet still am having the same problem. Is it still related to the cooling system? if I replace the water pump will i solve my problems, or is it really a hidden trans problem? I'm fairly certain the trans has never been serviced, and I'm reluctant to do so given the high milage, 174,000. The fluid is full, but its very thin, and no longer red, its sort of a pale yellow.
View 19 RepliesI have a weird problem with my 2008 Elantra GLS 86K Miles on it. I did a couple of searches on this problem but didn't find any threads. About a month ago I noticed that when I braked hard at highway speeds 65 to 70 Mph I would get a noise that sounded like I was driving over the rumble strips on the side of the road. The rumble was the same frequency no matter what speed you are going, it doesn't get faster or slower. The problem slowly got worse to the point that it would happen at 25 to 30 Mph. The noise sounds like it is coming from the front but I can't tell which side. I figured that it was probably rotors and time for a brake overhaul so I replaced the rotors, pads and hardware on the front and the back. I used synthetic brake grease on the slides and guides. I also replaced the brake fluid with synthetic DOT 3.
When I did the back brakes I found that the wheel bearing on the passenger side was leaking lots of grease so I replaced it with a Timken bearing. (I live over an hour away from the nearest dealer so I did the repairs myself.) While I was working on the bearing I pushed the rear shock up and out of the way and it stayed in the up position for quite a while, aren't the shocks under pressure and usually push right back down? (Just an off subject thought) Well after replacing the bearing the rumble strip noise went back to just happening at speeds from 45 Mph and up. I was also thinking of pulling the fuse on the ABS and seeing if the problem goes away but will pulling the fuse hurt the car in any way or trip a code? I know what the ABS sounds like and this is not the same noise you get when sliding on ice.
Passat Front End Noises? Loud "crack" noise when stepping on gas after hard braking....I thought...control arms gone again (replace em @ 55K miles)...so I replaced all the control arms... NOISE LESS but still there! I've replaced motor mounts and just checked them..no leaks, so engine shifting cant be it... I replaced the "stretch torqued" subframe bolts when I did lower rear control arms..so they're tight...What can it be??
View 18 RepliesI have noticed the last 3 times I hit the brakes really hard above 100 mph ( even 120 mph) I hear a whirling noise coming from either the front brakes or tires. Kind of sounds like when you have really old summer tires on the car and you make a stop on the street . I have heard this on the track the last 2 track days I had. I know my front tires (Michelin PSS) are about 40% worn but are still in pretty good shape.
My rotors are the same that carried me through 6 track days in 10 months and was recently told by the dealership that my front pads need to be replaced sooner than later ( they were installed 10 months ago before all the track work ) and I am assuming the rotors are beat up pretty goo . I will be getting new tires in the next few months and will most likely be replacing pads and rotors at the next scheduled service. The car has 34k on it. Is this normal with Brembos or aggressive brakes?
Just bought this van used last fall. Had an occasion, a few months ago, to brake quite hard (to avoid hitting a bird in the road--yeah, I know...) and felt a clattering vibration/noise in my brake pedal. It's happened a few times since then. Is this a problem that needs to be looked at or a normal reaction to quick, hard braking? (Braking noise in 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan)
View 9 RepliesI bought a new 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe this past August and this is my first car.
My first concern was that Hyundai advertises 27mpg in city and around 37(?) for highway. I acknowledge the fact that Hyundai recently had to lower their mpg estimates for some of their cars and provide reimbursements but however, these reimbursements are for 1-2mpg difference. My car after more than 6 months is still only getting about 14-15 miles on a casual drive in the city and only about 19-20mpg combined and about 24-25 on the highway! I am only getting about half the estimate for in city! I do not drive aggressively. In fact I am a pretty safe driver since I am a new driver and cautious about everything. I am also using premium gas on my car. I called the dealership I got the car from and they were trying to tell me about the reimbursement program which I already knew of... The reimbursement based of the 1-2 mileage difference is not what I want. I want to fix it and get close to the estimated mileage as I can. What is the best way to go about doing this?
The other issue is that sometimes when I hard brake, my car makes a loud grinding noise. My dealership's service center said they could take a look at this. I was mainly wondering if there is anything I should be concerned about for this?
I just noticed that when I am taking a hard right turn such as getting on the freeway or exiting, I hear random clicking noises in rapid successions in random intervals. the traction control alarm also lights up when this happens. is this normal? it sounds like relays are going crazy. I have not tried left turn yet since there isn't many opportunities around.
Clicking happens under hard cornering which in turn causes TC light to come on and when still under acceleration.
Back in June I replaced all 4 brakes and rotors. Now all of sudden I hear a loud grinding noise in the front end only when I'm braking to a complete stop.
I took all 4 tires off and then took off the pads. The pads and rotors are all still brand new and have very minor normal wear. Also the calipers still look good.
I then put everything back together and went for a test drive. The grinding noise is still there. It's very loud and only when I come to a complete stop.
Every time when lightly depressing the brake pedal there is a single click sound.
It doesn't not happen when releasing the pedal just when depressing it. It happens in all circumstances (i.e. with the car off, car on, stopped, moving, etc).
I thought it corresponded to the tail lights or the start button light because it happens right around when those lights turn on, but I was able to make it click without having either of those lights come on by depressing the pedal super slow.
I can't tell if its inside the car near the pedal or under the hood near the firewall... But it's right around that area. It seems louder at times then other times...usually quieter when car is moving (probably just drowned out by road noise)
Squeak that persists after I replaced the rear shocks. The noise started with just smaller bumps, but has no progressed to every little variation in the road. It sounds like a squeaky hamster wheel (embarrassing).
The links are tight, and even so I wouldn't suspect that they would make a squeak. In fact, one of them made a clunking noise, and I tightened it. Problem gone.
I have heard a lot of people talk about ball joints, but frankly I wouldn't expect it to start all of a sudden after replacing the shocks; so I'm not pursuing that course.
It squeaks like a creaky bed when I bounce it under my own weight in the back. Also, it makes more of a creak when settling after braking to a stop. I've looked underneath and checked the linkage visually. The removal process did take some doing to pry the old shock out and to put the new one in. I did not remove the whole lower control arm (perhaps I should have).
When I am slowing down and lightly pressing on the brakes and around 18mph or lower i hear a tick-tick-tick-tick noise , sounds like a roulette wheel from a casino war game in vegas coming to a stop, from the left front side..what could this be? .
View 2 RepliesThe other day I noticed that my '07 avalon was making some new noises. It's most noticeable once I get up about 15-20 mph and then very little touch the accelerator. It's sort of rotary noise that seems to be tied to the engine speed. Kind of like something rubbing that wasn't before. I also notice it when coming to a stop, foot of the accelerator, just braking the noise slows down. It seems even a bit louder when stopping.
View 3 RepliesI wanted the pose the question here first to be more prepared when I bring my car into the shop this week. I just noticed the other day that my car is making a modest scraping noise when the car is making a hard right turn (like you would be making into a parking spot). It doesn't happen if you are just turning the wheel, the car must be moving. The sound does not seem to happen for left turns or when the car is going in reverse. I am leaning towards it sounding like it is coming from the front drivers side. The sound's speed is dependent upon how fast the car is moving...it sort of makes an spinning sound.
A few things to note about the car. It is a 2009 with 62,000 miles on it. It has been maintained religiously, following the manufacturers guidelines. I had service done on the car about 3 weeks ago (it is possible this sound has been around since then but the car doesn't get very much driving these days due to a carpool arrangement). The service done was: new tires and alignment, clean carbon build up off valves, rear drum brake adjustment (tightening and aligning I believe), transmission fluid replacement, and a new engine air filter. Could this be the result of the work done a few weeks back?
