The a/c knob to turn the heat to cold is stripped. How do I manually change it from under the hood? I was told there is a lever you can switch the cold to hot if the knob is not working.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 Toyota Matrix. The radio volume control knob does not change the volume. The volume is just constantly stuck at a set volume (luckily a reasonably soft one). I pulled the knob plastic cap off and sprayed some contact cleaner in there but nothing changed. What caused this problem and what I can try? I have taken the radio out and opened it (changed led bulbs) before so I feel comfortable doing that and tinkering around.
View 6 RepliesI have been out of the country for the past 3 months and I left my car at my parents place. I have a 2011 Sonata SE with Nav. I got a call from my dad saying that my car is dead (battery) and the doors have locked. He previously was able to jump the car since he was able to open the doors with the key fob remote. Now the doors will not open. I assume the battery has died beyond where the key fob can open them. I return back home this week and would like to be able to deal with this headache before I return and come back to a working car. How to get into the car or at least popping the hood without being able to get in the car? I've read up about other cars having a backup battery or special mechanism on the door handle for these situations so I would think Hyundai thought this through...

View 4 RepliesI can't get my driver door to unlock. I've tried the key, manually form inside and electronically with the door lock but nothing works. I watched a video on dissembling the door but I need to get it open first. Any tip on how I can get it unlock/open. I was also wondering what the problem is with the lock so what to look for when I finally get it open and the panel off. I'm getting tired of crawl through the passenger side.
View 6 RepliesI rented a 2010 Toyota Matrix with 29,000 miles from Hertz Rent2Buy and noticed rust in the engine compartment screw heads, hose clamps, battery clamp, and on top of the shock housing. The pipe before the muffler has it also. The inside smells fine and the car runs fine. I ran an autocheck report and nothing bad came up. I took it to a local Midas shop for a visual courtesy check and they said it looked fine and that it could have been from humidity or rain if hood was open. The car was registered originally in FL and then mostly in PA. Is this rust normal or should I be concerned?
View 13 RepliesI park in a parking garage for work. A rusted pipe leaked on to my car hood for a while apparently and now my hood is rusted. I took it to a body shop down the street and the serviceman said I needed to repaint and reseal the hood and front bumper.
I went to my garage ownership and complained and they said they will take care of it and gave me a number to call. The repairman made it sound like he wants to just "buff it out".
I'm not a car expert by any means. Does this seem like a "cheap" fix and should I argue more with my garage?
I am getting "Hood Open" warning even though it was closed. I tried open and close it for several time but it is still showing the same warning. Where to look for the sensor and what steps needs to be taken for taking care of this issue.
View 12 RepliesI started hearing a gurgling sound from under the hood of my car. It sounds like some sort of fluid rushing. Today, I noticed that my car was overheating. I took to have the coolant topped off. The guy there said that it was probably a radiator leak because the radiator was "sweating". It's still making the same sound and but isn't currently overheating. What could be the causes of all this and is it worth repairing in such an old car? It's starting to seem like it's time to get a newer car.

I asked the mechanic to check it out and let me know how much it would cost to fix it. He told me a needed a new timing belt, water pump, and everything else that goes along with it. The engine, because of Toyota's design was fine.

I noticed that when I close the hood, right after I close it I hear a sound like a small amount of liquid is being poured (it doesn't sound like much, maybe as much as half a shot glass worth). I did it about 10 times and I don't see anything dripping onto the ground or under the hood. It sounds like it's coming from near the radiator (although with the hood closed it's hard to tell, also radiator is new with maybe 10,000 miles on it) I noticed it after changing my oil. What the sound could be? Something to be concerned about? There are no other problems with the vehicle.
View 16 RepliesYesterday I made a 3 hour round trip with my car, and on the last leg coming back into town, I noticed my check engine light came on, and I saw white smoke coming from underneath the hood of my car, along with a burning smell. Luckily I was able to make it home just fine. I've googled this issue, some people have suggested coolant leak.
Also, I checked the oil levels today and they appeared to be slightly below the lowest level tick, which could be why it was having issues yesterday. Last time I got an oil change was November of 2015. I'm surprised it's this low considering I normally don't commute farther than a couple miles each day.
My awesome 1990 Toyota Pickup (6 cyl., supercab), fondly named Ol' Rusty, has a measly 245,000 miles on it and still running strong. The one problem is that when it is very cold out such as this morning (-10F), I get a terrible noise coming from under the hood just in front of the steering column. It sounds like a belt rubbing, but I can't find it. It happens when I start going faster than 20 mph and goes away once the engine is completely warm. When it's happening, the speedometer jumps a bit. Interestingly, if I warm the truck up for 10 minutes or more so that the engine is completely warm, it still happens when I first drive the truck. Is this something I need to worry about or can I continue to ignore it like I have been for the last 3 years?

It's in great shape, except that everytime I slowly press the brakes, I hear what I would describe as a gurgling/ bubbling sound coming from under the hood. It doesn't happen when I quickly step on the brakes or come to a more sudden stop, only when I'm gently easing into a stop. I took it to the dealership and they just said that I might need new brake shoes, but couldn't explain the gurgling sound (which I'm assuming is caused by some type of fluid).

View 5 Repliesmy wife drives a 2008 toyota camry 4cyl. she has about 86000 miles so i figured i would do a little tune up. change plugs, filters, injector clean, etc. while changing the plugs i seem to have broken 3 of the 4 pressure tabs on the plugs that plug into the coil. for the time being i have the pressure tap electrical taped very tightly onto the plug. What I should do? or is that common to for those to break off. I didn't even really use a lot of pressure either.
View 2 RepliesI recently had to change the dome light in our 2012 Toyota Camry so I took some pictures and wrote a simple how to guide. The interior light assembly should be the same for 2007-2012. I definitely recommend changing to an LED light while you are at it, they last longer and are brighter. The OEM bulb number is DE3175 but I hear a lot of people like the PUTCO 231125 LED replacement bulb.

I am going to change the coolant in my 2009 corolla 1.8L. The service manual instructions tell me to open the "cylinder block drain cock plug" and I can't find it. The picture in the manual is not very clear, but it points to a spot on the engine just above the throttle body.
