Colonoscopy Stopped For Twisted Ascending Colon

Mar 8, 2016

I had a colonoscopy last week.  The dr. had to stop the procedure because of a twisted ascending colon.   Now I need to prep again and have a CT scan.  Has anyone had this problem?   What do I need to know?  Is this the cause of all the bloat I am carrying?

Body Twisted To Right With Mobility Issues

So I have no idea what is happening to me or to even speak to about this. The current state of my body is as follows. From top to bottom. My head veers towards the right. My vision is not what it used to be. I'm sensitive to light, and everything in the distance is blurred. Vision up close seems fine. I have trouble opening the right side of my mouth. This has made speaking very difficult. Looking to the left is painful in the neck and my right eye closes some. My right shoulder dips down and the left one up. Entire torso twists naturally to the right side. At the hips, the right side appears normal, but the left side appears to be sucked in somewhat. The mobility of the left leg from the hip is horrendous and kind of painful. It also looks considerably smaller than the right leg, which remains unaffected by anything. Totally normal. I have a very awkward gate and its difficult to just stand comfortably. I am 6'2", 170 pounds, and 25 years old. Now, at this point I've been to multiple chiropractors thinking that this was stemming from some kind of back problem, although i have no real back pain. I have also gotten some scans on the left side of my hip thinking that could be the problem. Both have been a complete waste of time and money. I exercise regularly and eat healthy. These problems have been on going and increasing in severity over the past 5 years. I have no idea what to do or what the problem is. This is ruining my life.

62 And Ascending Aorta - 4.2 Aneurysm - Strange Pain In Chest

I am 62 and I have been diagnosed with a 4.2 aneurysm in the ascending aorta. It was found while in the hospital for a suspected heart attack. I do know that aneurysms run in my father's side....one brother died of a ruptured abdominal aneurysm, one died with a brain aneurysm, grandfather died of a ruptured ascending aneurysm and my dad had the same. Of course, they won't do surgery till it reaches 5, but the stress of this is hard on me and my husband. We do know that I did not have the aneurysm two years ago, because I had all the tests done because of my heart rate rate drops into the thirties at times. I do have this sensation in my chest that I had mentioned to my doctor several months ago and I am now wondering if it is related to the growth of this thing. Periodically, I get this stretching sensation in the upper part of my chest...doesn't hurt, but it makes me feel like something is pulling. It lasts a few minutes and then stops...it does this a few times a day. I was just wondering if it was possible to feel the aneurysm growing?

Colon Cancer Or Just Hemorrhoids?

I am 25 years old and turn 26 in January. I am 179cm tall and weight around 65. I am wondering if my symptoms are Colon Cancer or is just a long therm Hemorrhoids. I got symptoms for Hemorrhoids when I was at early 19. Which was itching and not be able to sit still, small clumps which is symptoms for External Hemorrhoids. My doctor asked me to take a look at my anus at that time, but I am very shy and don't like others to peek at my private locations on my body so I told him not to. There was extremely little amount of blood(almost none) on the toilet papers. Sometimes there was blood and sometimes none, but the itching and irritation was always there and the pain around the anus.

I got Scheriproct suppositories and ointment which I used few times, but after one bowel movement when everything looks fine I usually quit using them and then after few weeks or months the symptoms returned. Itching and irritation, blood on stool following up. It got worse over the years and I never thought so much about it as I started to get used to it..

The blood was always fresh red and I was always in pain around anus after a bowel movement. Few times I lost so much blood that I got fever and ended up in bed. The last time I got fever, I decided to not just let it pass again so I started to search online for information and then came across about Colon Cancer and its symptoms.. I am still a person who is very shy and don't like others to take a look at my private locations on my body unless it is my girlfriend. I don't always get fever, happened few times, but there were still blood on my stools.. Dripping down and kinda like blood smeared on the poop and not mixed within the poop.

I still had prescription for two packs of Scheriproct suppositories and ointment, so I decided to use it again and see if it ceases the itching, bleeding and the irritation, and if the External Hemorrhoids vanished. I used them all and every symptoms were gone. And now after 6 weeks, less or more maybe. I got the symptoms again. This time with blood again, irritation and itching, but not so much as it used to.

I want to point out that I am not so active anymore, I used to play for a football team and was a very active person til age 19. At age 19 everything changed. I quit being active and got lazy after going into a relationship, started to drink alcohol at that age and started to party alot and drink a lot of alcohol at the parties.

Before I was symptom free my diet was terrible, I used to workout 3 to 4 times a week (3 years ago), it was very on and off with the workouts so I still had symptoms then, like itching, irritation and bleeding(fresh red blood). My stool used to always be hard and I went to the toilet few times a week (2/3 times a week). I also used to sit on the toilet for over a long time(which is not good at all because of the pressure it puts around the muscles of my anus). I used to work as a checkout employee on a supermarket where I sat for almost 8 hours.

Right before I got the symptoms again after I was done with Scheriproct, I had bowel movement almost everyday and my stool used to be soft. No pain or itching, no irritation and external hemorrhoids. No blood at all and the time I used on the toilet was reduced extreamly to finish my bowel movement in maximum 5 minutes (usually 2 to 3 minutes). Then the day came when I had not a bowel movement for 3 or 4 days after eating alot of Pizza and meat I went in to the toilet and pressed a little to get some poop out because I was afraid of having hard stool again, but after that day the symptoms returned.

Here is a list of the symptoms I got, symtoms I had and symptoms which I never had.

Symptoms I have(+) had(-), never had(x)

+ Itching (not so often as before)
+ Irritation (not so much as before)
+ Blood on toilet paper and poop (fresh red)
+ Sweet, but an awful scent from poop (Don't know the reason, maybe because of the blood coming in contact with the poop)
+ Clumps on anus (External Hemorrhoids)

(+/-) Hard Stool, not so hard as it used to be and sometimes not hard at all and normal(feels great).. Last bowel movement = Hard to begin with then got softer.

- Used to bleed a lot and get fever

x NO Black Poop
x NO Weight loss
x NO pain in the abdomen
(I can't think of any other symptoms at the moment that I had or never had, sorry)

I have recently changed my diet and started to workout properly(second session today). I eat more vegetable food and drink a lot of hot drinks and water. I also eat fruit and the result was my stool was still a little bit hard to begin with, did not struggle getting it out and there was blood again(not much, but with that sweet and awful scent), but it has only been 2 days since the other bowel movement when the symptoms returned so maybe it has not healed up yet and that my diet has not taken effect yet, after all I ate many non fiber rich food these last days before changing my diet!

I am truly sorry for an extremely long post, just wanted to lay out all of the details.

By the way I have a question: If I have Colon Cancer, would I always have blood on my stool when I first have it or will it cease to bleed sometimes? As I mentioned, I was symptom free with no blood after using Scheriproct suppositories and ointment and was symptom free 3 more weeks without Scheriproct.

I am planning on visiting my doctor and let him take a look. I even took pictures of my anus as it is now to show him incase I chicken out to show him.

Hemorrhoids Or Serious Like Colon Cancer

I have recently noticed blood in my stool (the last couple of time I have gone). I am freaking out! I am only 24 years old and generally follow a good diet and am not sure if this is something benign like Hemorrhoids or serious like Colon Cancer. Can somebody advice on how to distinguish between the different diseases? I am feeling fine and have no other symptoms for now.

Colon Cancer :: Stools Always Be Thin Or Flat?

I am really nervous. I am having my 1st routine colonoscopy on Tuesday (I'm 50 years old) and I'm really nervous.

Colon cancer does not run in my family.

My stools are in all shapes and sizes. (fat, thin, big, small, flat, round, balls and watery). Sorry to be gross. This morning, my stools were somewhat big but I noticed 1 was semi flat. Twice today after eating, I had diarrhea.

Can nervous make you have diarrhea?

With colon cancer, will the stools always be thin or flat? Sometimes I have healthy stools but other times, my stools are small and thin. Never blood. Sometimes, it's yellow but then it's back to brown.

I don't eat well and I certainly don't get enough fiber in my diet but if (hopefully) my colonoscopy comes back normal, I will eat more fruit and veg and exercise.

I don't have any pain but I know I have a sludge in my gallbladder but for the last few days, I've been having pain which I think is all in my head and my nerves.

Could somebody please let me know what you think. Could it all be my diet and nerves?

Colon Cancer :: Small Amount Of Rectal Bleeding

For the past 4-5 weeks, every time I pass a stool, I have seen a small amount of red blood on the tissue paper. I'm only 19, so realise colon cancer is unlikely, but am still very worried about it. I've read it could be anal fissure but surely this should have healed by itself by now? I am hesitant to go to the doctors because of the nature of the problem. I know that's really stupid but if it can heal by itself i'd rather not got through the stress of going to my gp.
Thanks

Anaesthetic Really Works For Colonoscopy?

I'm having a first colonoscopy soon, and am concerned at the pain aspect, Doctors tell me it is virtually pain free, and I have a history of poor reactions to anaesthetics with previous hospital procedures and Dentists, where they just don't work, anybody else have this problem and how do you overcome it.

I have always told the Doctors who tend to just ignore what I say, I have to assume that any pain relief I get will not work until much later in the day, is this manageable?

Hemorrhoids :: Colonoscopy Before Ligation

My husband was referred to a specialist to undergo ligation for internal hemorrhoids using the CRH O'Regan System. They told him they will need to rule out colon cancer before the ligation procedure. He is 39 and has dealt with hemorrhoids since his 20s, no familial history of colon cancer, no anemia or other red flags that he is at risk for cancer. I am more concerned about the colonoscopy than the ligation. Do all physicians require that testing?

Colonoscopy :: My Good Experience

Just came home from a colonoscopy this afternoon and with the experience fresh in my mind -

I thought I'd share my thoughts.

Never having had a colonoscopy before, I was really wound up and worried in the days before the procedure.

The question in my mind was, just how painful is this going to be? Would I be able to deal with it ?...

So on the day - after a delicate conversation with a nurse on the day, I decided to go for entonox with sedation as a backup if things proved too much.

To get to the nitty gritty - So how painful is a colonoscopy? Well there is a difference I believe between pain and discomfort.

During a colonosocopy - With all that endoscope piping inside you, your insides will get thoroughly pushed and pulled, and so your body will be stretched.

The best I can describe it, is that feeling when you're carrying very heavy shopping bags for some time and your arms really really ache. Not pain but potentially a lot of discomfort.

So If you are someone who struggles with any discomfort, then maybe sedation is the way to go.

However- if you're someone who is prepared to put up with some stretching pulling discomfort (again not really pain) then confidently go for entonox.

In the examination room for the procedure, I was handed the mouthpiece and not given any instructions at all. So here is my take...Just take what you need. When you feel a bit of pulling and pushing, just take one or two lungfuls of gas and then breathe normally for 30 seconds or so. Don't take any gas if you are not in any discomfort as it was simply make you feel lightheaded and woozy. Again just take what you need. It kicks in with 20-30 seconds. Gas & Air is really quite *powerful* pain/discomfort relief.

Best advice - The most important thing is to try to relax.

Two reasons :-

1 By consciously trying to relax, it makes it easier for the job to get done, there is less pushing and pulling needed to fight your tense muscles and so therefore is less discomfort.

2 if you really think anything is going to be unpleasant and focus intently on it, your mind will create a sensation despite what is actually happening... A self fulfilling prophecy.

Just listen to the radio and take your mind somewhere else...

In my case, with a few lungfuls of entonox here and there, the whole procedure was very manageable. Important - accept you will have some discomfort, but it really is no worse than overstretched shopping arms...The staff at good Hope Hospital Birmingham were brilliant, and looked after me very well.

So in summary, I found the experience nowhere near as bad as some of the horror stories you read the forums. I suspect it is only when things go wrong, or people just have a bad experience, that views get shared.

Colonoscopy :: Worried About The Procedure

I too am terrified of having a colonoscopy scheduled for this Friday. I have read the different experiences and don't know what to think as the experiences are so varied. Last year I had a flexi sigmoidoscopy without sedation, or pain relief, which was okay - just a bit uncomfortable. A polyps was found and therefore the doctor wants to check for more higher up. But the colonoscopy seems to be more undignified and painful. I do not want to be sedated as (a) I need to keep my memory for work; (b) I do not like being out of control; and (c) I have read some awful experiences of people being sedated. Therefore I am just going to have the pain relief. During the flexi I was embarrassed at the sensation of wind needing to be released and regardless of being told it is part of everyday work for the medics - it is not for me. This adds to the undignified process. So, although intellectually I know that having a colonoscopy will save my life, I am still very worried about the prep, the procedure and of course the results.

Colonoscopy Coming Up In 2 Weeks

What is this new thing they are doing now?

Last one I had, I had to drink all the bowel prep the night before.

Now, they are doing one on me the 26th of this month(January)

and I am to drink half of it the night before, and I am supposed to get up at 4:00 AM to start drinking the other half (Half Gallon I guess)

Last time I had one, they found a growth, as I had been putting off my colonoscopy, as I was afraid. Plus I do not/Did not have any one to stay after me. I sucks when you don't have anyone around that cares about you, and will stay after you. I told my doctor to stay after me, but she never did. It is really my fault though.

But it is nice if you have some one to stay after you.

Anyways, the growth WAS cancerous, and they had to remove part of my colon, and it had spread to the lymph nodes, so they had to do Chemo, and now I am worried about it coming back, and killing me. Don't put your colonoscopy off if it is due.

Also was anyone allowed to drink less bowel prep because they have part of there colon removed?

I asked the doctor today, but they have to call me back.

I told them I wanted it looked into, and not just told to drink it all.

I did have a hard time drinking it all last time, but that was when I did have the growth in me.
