General :: Nausea And Vomiting - Gallbladder Taken Out But Nothing Works

Jul 13, 2014

I'm a 19 year old female. In May 2013 I gradually started to become nauseous. It got worse and by June 2013 I was throwing up almost daily. I saw a gastroenterologist who (in November 2013) found celiac disease through an upper endoscopy. I started eating gluten free but the nausea and vomiting continued. Since then, he's done a gastric emptying test, results were normal. I had a HIDA scan of my gallbladder which showed it didn't contract normally. I then had an ultrasound of my gallbladder, which showed tons of stones. Last month, I got my gallbladder taken out. (because my gastroenterologist was sure that was the cause of nausea and vomiting) The first couple days after surgery I felt no nausea, but by the 4th day post surgery, I had the exact same nausea and vomiting I had before. Does anybody have ANY idea what could be causing this? Or what tests I could ask my gastroenterologist to run when I see him next? And before anybody asks, I'm not pregnant.

GERD (acid Reflux) :: Nausea, Vomiting, Burning In My Stomach

I'm 20 years old and been dealing with really bad acid reflux for about 6 years now. For about a year now i've been on the depo provera shot which has seemed to slow down my flare ups. When this all started i would get sick every time i started my period for me in the morning as soon as i get up. Since the depo shot i've been getting sick every three months right before my next shot. These flare up usually lasted about a week and a half at most(which really sucks cuz it affects my life in every way imaginable). My symptoms when im sick is usually nausea, vomiting, burning in my stomach, burning in my throat, fatigue, sharp lower pains, and sometimes it gets so bad because i'm scared to get sick i have panic attacks. When i was 14 doctors found an ulcer cover 90% of my stomach. That was seen doing a endoscopy. I was still having issues shortly after leaving the hospital, so talked with my doctor and had a laparoscopy scheduled. Did that and they found i had built up scar tissue on my female parts cant remember every detail as its been a long time ago and i'm always sick when they finally want to try something. So anyways they also found a cyst near my belly button. It seemed as if their findings was not a big deal. So down the road still getting sick i had my appendix removed, and that didn't change a thing. I've had numerous ultra sounds, x rays, blood test, cat scans and i'm probably forgetting more. I'm just hoping someone will have a possible answer since i been too more doctor i can count on both my hands and toes and that haven't a clue.. Just to put it out there i am not a liquor drinker, i smoke cigarettes and marijuana. I also do not drink caffeine anymore for the past 3 years basically. !

Kidney Stones? Nausea / Vomiting - Upper Back Pain Waves

I have had an achy upper back pain for a few days now. I was attributing it to having slept funny, but now I am thinking it was a warning sign I missed. I woke up at 2am with horrible nausea and sharp pain in my upper left back. It comes in waves and was so severe it brought tears to my eyes. I have had kidney pain from infection in the past and while different I think this pain may be kidney related too. I am trying to find some way to get comfortable enough to sleep since it is the middle of the night and I don't want to wake two sleeping babies and drag them to the ER. I tried calling the nurse helpline provided by my insurance company, but he just told me to try a heating pad and some Tylenol.
I have a lot of prescription pain meds in my medicine cabinet because I have had 2 c sections and another surgery within the last couple years and I hate taking pain meds... I took an oxycodone.  That along with a vibrating massage mat under my back seems to be helping with the pain for the moment, but the nausea is even worse now. Any suggestions for that? I just need to make it to morning so I can go to an urgent care clinic. There is no one to watch the babies right now and of course o would get sick on Sunday when my primary care doc is closed.

Lactose Intolerance - Diarrhoea, Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal Cramps, Brain-fog, Anxiety Attacks

I have just been diagnosed with lactose intolerance. After, literally years of suffering, I finally have an answer to my problems. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has this and what you suffered? I mean, this seemingly little thing has caused me to become bedridden! I ate a diet LOADED with lactose prior to diagnosis and honestly felt like I was dying over the last two years in particular. I had severe diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, brain-fog, anxiety attacks...the list goes on... I had my appendix out in Oct 2013 too, which I can't be sure was related, but it was horrendously painful any way!

The symptoms I had, I put down to various things and was convinced I had parasites, which I don't have. I just could not fathom why I was so ill. I had a food intolerance test and eggs came up positive, so I eliminated them from my diet at the time, but I had little relief as I was still eating a high-lactose diet, not knowing that I was intolerant.

I have now eliminated all lactose AND eggs from my diet and in one day, I felt better. I had no abdominal pain, no urgency to poo, and no headache - which I have literally, constantly had for years. It's remarkable. I also didn't suffer bad dreams, which is so weird, as I have actually become used to my dreams being bad/negative and it became normal for me. It's such a relief to be able to rest without disruption!

Did or do any of you suffer with really bad symptoms down to lactose intolerance? Also, as I am new to this and have had to overhaul my diet, does anyone have advice on foods I should avoid, etc?

Thanks!

Gallbladder Removal :: Nausea Will Go Away?

Cruddy gallbladder, ejection fraction of 20 percent, going to the surgeon soon. But I'm at my wits end with the queasiness. I've hit the point where slight nausea is a constant rather than an occasional gripe. Anyone dealt with this kind of slight, but uncomfortable, nausea and a nonfunctional gallbladder? Any advice for the next couple weeks to help mitigate it?

And tell me that once your gallbladder was gone, so was the nausea.

Gallbladder :: Nausea - Small Gallstones

60 something guy, good health but developed nausea and bloating, fullness after eating for the last couple of months, becoming more regular, a little discomfort under the ribs, but no major pain. What I eat doesn't seem to matter much. Ultrasound showed many small gall stones, endoscopy was normal. I assume this would warrant GB removal even though I am not experiencing the sharp attacks that people speak of. I hate to go through removal if it is really not the problem as I understand gallstones often show no symptoms.......

Weakness And Nausea 4 Months After Gallbladder Removal

Well it's been 4 months since I had the gallbladder removed on Tuesday and I'm no better. Still persistent nausea no appetite dry retching or sometimes vomiting in the morning and horrendous weakness. It's been the worst 4 months of my life. Waking up in the middle of the night every night with the nausea sometimes at 230am and can't go back to sleep. Some days it eases off by lunch time some days it doesn't. Have been in and out of hospital and have been told it's a side effect of the surgery and it's very rare. Have found other people who had gone through similar experiences and it can take 6-9 months to recover. Have posted on this before but got little feedback. Just posting again in case there's anyone this has happened to or that they may know of this happening to.

Gastroenterology :: Green Stool, Clear Urine, Pain, Nausea 3 Months After Gallbladder Removal

I am a 16 year old girl who for the most part was healthy prior to the start of my digestive problems.   I am 5"3 and have never weighed over 99 lbs but my weight has now dropped to below 94 lbs due to inability to eat without pain and nausea.  Around August 2011, I started having moderate-severe nausea and abdominal pain following most/all meals, which over time progressed to be nearly constant pain and nausea that made eating nearly unbearable.  Starting in early March, I had multiple blood tests, an ultrasound, a HIDA scan, and an upper endoscopy.  The only explanation offered to my mother (a doctor) and myself was that my gallbladder was hyperactive and excreted bile way too quickly, with an ejection fraction of 89%.  Normal ejection fractions are considered to be roughly between 30-75%, but high ejection fractions are a gray area in the medical world at the moment, as most bad gallbladders have a low ejection fraction.  All the children's surgeons refused to take out my gallbladder for this reason, but with it being our only hope we searched for a surgeon willing to take the chance.  We were luckily able to find a surgeon with some knowledge of hyperactive gallbladders who removed my gallbladder in early May.  My surgery went well and there were no complications immediately following.  I did not have constant diarrhea following my procedure and my pain and nausea were alleviated until approximately early-mid June.   I began having moderate nausea and pain again following nearly all foods and some drinks such as slushies or shakes.  It increasingly worsened but has not yet reached the constant pain/nausea i was experiencing pre-surgery.  I also had approximately 3-5 bouts that lasted about 10-20 minutes of extreme nearly unbearable pain, usually in my left abdomen just below the ribs approximately 20-30 minutes after I had eaten.  Each time brought me to the floor and to tears.  I visited the GI doctor again July 5 and was told their best explanation was Functional Dyspepsia and that I should begin taking 30g Amitriptyline each night.  I was told results should appear approximately 3 weeks after I start regular dosage, which I did on July 5.  I have seen some improvement in my pain and nausea as they do not necessarily occur after every single time I eat anymore, but they are still way too frequent and persistent for me to feel normal, much less function normally.  Over the past week or so, my stools have been a bright green color and my urine has been clear for the most part. There seems to be no connection between my symptoms and my hormones as they do not worsen or alleviate with my menstrual cycle.   I am sick and tired of being so sick and tired as my symptoms have majorly impacted my life and prevented me from participating in many things as they caused me to miss over 40 days of school just since January 2012.  Please please please offer any ideas or thoughts you might have, i truly am desperate.

Gallbladder Surgery :: Persistent Mild Dyspepsia, Mild Nausea And Appetite Loss

RECENT HISTORY

First, I am diabetic and have had a fairly normal healthy life except in the last two years where I gained 40 pounds, did not control my blood sugars well, and went off the rails. I have had a lot of issues this year, but to focus on my most recent issues, I had a A1c of 10.5 two month ago and went to 9.1 a month ago finally to 7.6 right before my single incision laparoscopic with robotic-assisted single-incision surgery to remove my infected gallbladder (Hida Scan 11% no gallstones). 6 month ago i started experiencing a lot of bloating, indigestion and took charcocaps that helped a lot after meals.

Two weeks ago I went out for a cup of iced coffee (huge coffee drinker 3-4 cups a day for a long time no problems for years), and something hit me, it felt like a sharp pain and instant feeling of bleh no appetite and sick feeling the rest of the day. This continued for a week before I knew something was wrong, I could not have anything acidic or felt like I could eat anything. I had just seen my doctor for a bike accident a month prior to get a referral to a PT and osteopathic doctor. I had a l3/l4 compressed nerve with a twisted sacral (this is much better now with some minor spasms in my right leg from time to time). With all of that pain (took hydrocodone and muscle relaxants to sleep, sleep was poor) and school, I figured I must have given myself an Ulcer. My doctor game me a ppi-omeprazole (i've never had reflux and didn't then) since I had symptoms of some burning sensations and this chronic dyspepsia so this would treat the possible Ulcer for two weeks while I was sent for an ultrasound to check out my gallbladder (family history - Mom, aunt, and uncle had their's out with gallstones). The ppi sort of helped but I just was fatigued, could not eat anything but a bland diet, I had chronic dyspepsia and general nausea that I could never shake. My daily caloric intake decreased with each new day and food just made me generally feel sick, however if I skipped meals it would still be bad, worse with food.

TEST RESULTS
After the Hida scan came back positive with an ejection rate of 11%, I scheduled my new a1c test, ekg (family history of heart disease), I was cleared and scheduled for surgery. I stopped taking the ppi as I believed this to be the cause of all my problems. btw, I was 254 the end of june and lost 25 pounds by the time of surgery (average daily caloric intake ~900-1200 prior to surgery

POST SURGERY

After the surgery 7/21-one week ago, I had my two days of pain and adjustment, and recovered decently with a soft food and liquid diet. I noticed the general sickness was gone! Hazzah!, except on Saturday I was feeling bloated, cramping, and I could not eat a solid one bite without feeling sick. I knew I was constipated. I stopped the pain meds the day before and I knew I had not eaten too much but it was over a week since i went. I took magnesium citrate and nothing after 7 hours, I drank another 1/2--then BOOM it was insane. I was sooo wiped out and tried to replace lost liquids but I believe I was dehydrated. I was sick that night and stomach was not happy.

Sunday was much better but I was wiped out still and felt generally just depleted of all my energy. I ate, walked a bit and then came back home. That night I started feeling very uncomfortable and the symptoms were somewhat similar to prior to surgery of the general dyspepsia and nausea chronically. I could not sleep because of my back problems (had to sleep upright on my back all week). I woke up in the middle of the night turned to my side and then all of a sudden I felt a warm rush of something just above my stomach and the constant burn in my stomach no reflux. I could not sleep until the morning.

NOW,
I have had really bad gas (low fat diet) for the past few days. I was getting and feeling better on day four but now this!

I felt extreme discomfort all day, felt like a low grade fever 98.6 (no fever) incision site is also slightly red, but the doctor said to call if I had a fever. I was worried about an SSI. The pain was like I threw up (I never have even starting out back in at the coffee shop) and that ache afterwards. The burning sensation let up later in the day after I took some antacids and saltines (I must have some acid issues, but I have read a lot of people suspecting many people may actually have low acid).

The thing is a lot of people have episodes after food, but mine is chronic with mild discomfort, burning sensations, upper abdomen and stomach discomfort (with some nausea), and food helps it initially and then it comes back. I feel week, slight low grade fever even though I don't have one. I keep thinking I have an infection of H. Pylori or something. Food takes a while to do much, I walk after I eat everything. I feel like I could eat but I get so much bloating and indigestion that it is uncomfortable. I drink plenty of water, but I wonder if I am low on essential things for the long ongoing low calorie daily diet. I can't eat more then 800 calories even with smaller meals-since Thursday.

Why was my gall bladder inflamed in the first place? I had no stones, and the surgeon said I had a very long a big gallbladder (ready to rupture!) that was really inflamed including a little on the liver. Pathology reports came back negative. I theorize my rapid change in weight and blood sugar levels inflamed the organ or an infection.

Possibilities:

diabetic Gastroparesis
H. Pylori
Peptic Ulcer (was never officially tested)
Gastritis
Anxiety
Low/High Stomach Acid
Low bile leak?
Sphincter of oddi dysfunction

What I feel could help:

HCL Betaine
Digestive Enzyme (Garden of life chewable vegetarian)
ppi (I would hate to take them unless I had to)
something to coat my stomach if I do have an ulcer to heal
ability to eat more so I can have more assimilated minerals, ect.
Anxiety med (first year i've had a lot of anxiety-mainly school related and upcoming wedding planning for next year
more tests!

My burning anxiety questions:

When will I get my appetite back?

(i really suspected my odds were decently good that I would get better after surgery, I had a great surgeon)

Did anyone have any of these chronic symptoms? Is it due to an infection or some issue with surgery?

Have some people eventually been able to eat what they wanted after a period of time?

How many had these excessive bloating, indigestion, nausea and general malaise through the day, worse a little while after food or between meals?

Gallbladder :: Remove The Polyps Without Removing Gallbladder?

I have been diagnosed with multiple polyps in my gallbladder recently. They are all small except one with less than 5mm. I have a symptom recently with pain. My doctor has suggested to remove my gallbladder. But I am wondering if there are any surgery or technique that can take out the polyps without removing the gallbladder or get the polyps for biopsy test to see it is malignant? I really hope to keep my gallbladder as it is a part of body that god created.

Nausea :: Past Few Months, Random Nausea Lasts A Day Or Two

Over the last few months I've been randomly getting nauseated. It usually lasts a day or two and only has actually caused me to vomit a few times. However recently it has become more severe, and more common and even more recently has become paired with an uncomfortable dizziness and weakness in my legs. My mother believed it was morning sickness so I took a pregnancy test which proved negative and haven't missed any periods in the 3 months since I was last sexually active so I'm fairly certain I am not pregnant.
