Hyperparathyroidism? Calcium And Vitamin D Levels

May 29, 2014

So I just got blood tests back and my vitamin d was 26 which is low and my calcium was 10.3 which is a tad high. I am 25 year old female. Should I be concerned about hyperparathyroidism?? I didn't get my PTH checked but my thyroid is normal. I don't know if they have anything to do.

Bad Parathyroid? Symptoms? Calcium And Vitamin D Levels?

I have nearly all symptoms of a bad parathyroid.  I am changing doctors as I am not pleased with his responses.  My parathyroid hormones have been high for two years+.  My calcium level stays at 10-10.4, with anything over 10.5 being considered high.  Do I just go to a surgeon or what do I do?  With sudden symptoms beginning over two years ago, I feel it is a bad parathyroid.  In my last blood work, my VIT D was even LOW, which I understand can also be a symptom.

Thyroid :: Raised Parathyroid And Calcium Levels - Low Vitamin D

I have had a raised parathyroid hormone blood result recently also a raised calcium in the blood result. I had raised calcium levels several years ago but after a scan of my parathyroid glands which showed no growths it was put down to lack of Vitamin D and called secondary parathyroidism

I was told to increase my Vitamin D levels which I did and my calcium level dropped. I have continued on the supplementation. I have severe sleep problems, am tired and grumpy, my hypothyroidism been under control for the last 8 years. I am borderline diabetic. Almost 73 years old.

Vitamin D Deficiency, Hyperparathyroidism And Heartburn

Can anyone relate to having muscle and bone pain with being deficient in vitamin D ?   I get severe pains in muscles down my back and this has spread into my shoulders and up my neck into my head at the back. The pains come and go but i always feel tender and stiff in these area's. I get sharp shooting pains, burning pains and the feeling that my muscles are sore to touch. I also have felt like the muscle is tearing when i turn to reach something, the tearing sensation is really painful. I get shooting pains in my right leg in the hip/buttock joint which makes walking difficult at times and causes my left knee to give as i try to keep weight off right leg. The bone pain is usually in my lower back. When the pains in my neck muscles started it seemed to be triggered after i heard a cracking sound and got sharp pains in the back of my neck.

Pernicious Anaemia :: B12 - Low Cellular Levels, High Serum Levels After 5 Years Treatment

I found out I had a B12 deficiency 5 years ago.  My levels were very dangerously low at the cellular/functional level.  I was told I was near paralysis. Now, after 5 years, they are still low.  They have come up to almost borderline, but it still flags red on my tests.  My serum levels though are too high for the lab to measure! Its just not getting into my cells so it's not able to be used.  I do twice a week injections plus twice a month IV B12 and still it has taken my body 5 years just to go up a little bit. I feel the effects of the shot for about 15 hours barely then I just feel awful again, thankfully it's prescribed every 2 days.  But I don't want to do it every 2 days forever!

In the beginning I was told it would take a month or two to get my body back to normal and then just a shot every few months for maintenance. My drs have not only increased my dose but also the frequency and STILL after all these years I'm deficient.

Thyroid Disorders :: T4 Levels And Cortisol Levels Low?

Why are my T4 levels and Cortisol levels low?

I have been having symptoms of depression, fatigue, low libido and weight gain over the last few years. I am 50 and have gone through menopause. My latest lab results are:

TSH  1.064   (0.358-3.74)
Free T4   9.7    (9.8-18.8)
ferritin  16   (3-105)
B12   498   (156-672)
Cortisol  28   (155-570)
RBC's    normal

I am not taking any thyroid meds......only nexium and Cymbalta.

What do these results mean?  Can someone give me some insight into the results please?

Vitamin B12 And Vitamin D Deficiency Experienced Nocturnal Anxiety?

I was diagnosed with with B12 and Vitamin D deficiency. Both levels quite low. I have been taking my Vitamin B12 shots for three weeks now. Also I am on supplements for Vitamin D 60000 IU once a week. Most of my symptoms like tingling numbness and headache have gone. But since a few days i have been experiencing this weird feeling in my chest and entire body, the kinds when we are nervous, with palpitation while sleeping. I wake up and sit for sometime and then I seem to be fine. However, it happens again when i am about fall asleep. My GP said its anxiety and prescribed clonazepam. It did help for three days. But yesterday I tried sleeping without taking clonazepam and the same feeling of anxiety and palpitation came back. Is it a part of the vitamin D recovery process? I don't want to take clonazepam regularly. Any suggestions?

Remedies For High Uric Acid And Calcium Naturally?

Has anyone been successful using natural remedies such as lemon juice and apple cider vinegar in lowering urine calcium and uric acid levels? After several episodes of gross hematuria it was determined that I have bilateral stones.  A 24 hr urine test showed elevated calcium and uric acid. I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?

Thyroid :: Understanding Calcium And Parathyroid Hormone Level?

I'm a 44 year old female. Earlier this year I went to the doc with lethargy, aches and pains, headaches, Backache, feeling sick, amongst a heap of other basic symptoms for a menopause check to which it came back as positive but they also tested me for low vit d which came back as deficient so checked my parathyroid hormone which was elevated. My Calcium they said was fine so iv been treated with a high dose of vit d pills for three months. Recent testing has shown my Calcium is still stable but my parathyroid has increased further but the doctor said she will have to do and enquires as to what to do next as she expected my parathyroid to balance out but as it isn't I haven't a clue what that all means if my Calcium is ok as I know they are all linked. Is there any clues or experience you can offer as to what it all means.

Thyroid :: How To Cope With Hyperparathyroidism?

I was diagnosed with this some years ago after suffering for years with kidney stones, they did try and remove my parathyroid glands but couldn't find them, mine aren't where they should be and further tests have come up blank as to where they might be in my body (looking for a needle in a haystack was the term used!) I take Bendroflumethiazide (sp) alternate days to alter the acid in my urine. I'm constantly tired and fed up being told i need to watch my weight and i should exercise more, i'd love to exercise more but some days it's all i can do to get my head off the pillow. I could go on and on here just wanted to know if there was any sufferers out there and wondered how they cope with this condition?

Hyperparathyroidism - Nephrologist Or Endocrinologist

My husband as i look back on some of his Calcium levels the last 18-24 mo they are slightly above normal. He also had a kidney stone a few weeks ago. His Vitamin D level is low, and his PTH is low normal. He has been feeling really exhausted and wants to just sleep. His 24hr urine calcium is elevated.

Also his BUN and Creatinine levels have gone up rather rapidly and a little too much for comfort as far as i am concerned.

His creatinine in his blood has doubled from 1.1mg/dl to 2.4mg/dl

His BUN has gone from 25mg/dl in june to 41mg/dl when the test was taken the day he had the 2.4 creatinine .

He passed the stone and it showed on CT not to have been really large, but after about 2 weeks, his urine dipstick test for blood still says he has a large amount. I found site where there are doctors in Tampa, Fla that only do hyperparathyroid cases and surgeries.

The problem is that our family doctor knows little about this disease and the Tampa Docs say a lot of Endocrinologist don't really know a lot about it. So now an endocrinologist that has not seen my husband yet is telling us to see a nephrologist.

I think that he needs at least 3 PTH results to at least see where he is falling in the range. Naturally nobody moves very fast on this kind of thing, Doctors just don't want to talk to you, as if you can't understand the tests...well i can and can carry on a conversation about it, but i think because of their lack of really knowing a lot about this disease, its easier to avoid me and to send to this doctor and that. I don't want a bunch of different viewpoints i want the doctors to come together and at least discuss what the other has to say about his case. I am trying to save him as much "wild goose chase" as possible. Any advice on what I should do, ask or insist on from the doctors, while my husband is probably getting worse.

Hypocalcemia Due To Surgery For Hyperparathyroidism

I had surgery for Hyperparathyroidism a year ago. I had 4 gland hyperplasia, which meant they removed 3 plus a part of the 4th gland. Immediately after surgery, I of course developed hypocalcemia. Since then, my Calcium numbers have fluctuated and I have had better and worse readings. However, my PTH has never gone above 19, and my last reading was 14. My Vitamin D is at 43 and my "active" D is apparently doing what it should be doing so I do not require Calcitriol to get things working. But, I still have issues with keeping my calcium up, and of course the attendant tingling, and etc.

My real concern is two-fold. One, is it safe to keep taking supplements given the conflicting data on males taking calcium, and Two, is there any harm in long term chronic hypocalcemia? I have read about heart issues and hypocalcemia, but I am assuming this is with respects very low and long term calcium issues. Also, anyone know of any ways to raise PTH at all? Funny how high PTH was an issue before surgery and now low PTH is...
