I Tested Positive But My Partner Tested Negative For Herpes

Nov 12, 2015

I have been in a committed relationship for almost 5 years. We are planning on getting married and having kids one day. Two weeks ago I went in to the Dr. because I nicked myself while shaving and I thought it had gotten really infected (maybe a rusty blade, yeast infection from my soap, to much sweating I wasn't sure). When I went in the Dr. told me it wasn't an infected wound it was a herpes sore next to a small nick. We got it tested and I came back positive for herpes.

I have only had 3 sex partners including my current partner and my partner has only been with me. The Dr. said it most likely came from one of my past partners. She said the virus can lay dormant for years before showing signs. However, I told my partner and he got tested. His test results came back saying he has been exposed to the herpes virus but that he did not have it. Which is a relief but at the same time confusing. How can he be clean if I've had it for possibly longer than 5 years and we've been having sex for 5 years? I don't want him to think I've been unfaithful and not to sound like a bad person but I wish he had come back positive so I wouldn't feel so alienated. I've read that the blood and urine test often come back negative because they are "weak" tests and the only way to confirm is by taking a sample from the sore it's self. So is it possible that he has the virus but it is currently dormant and that the test is not 100% reliable?

Negative Herpes But Random Blisters On Vagina But Tested Negative For Herpes?

Hello! I was recently back in February diagnosed with hpv. I had full blood work done and I have no other diseases or infections. I've also not had sex since before the testing. I recently noticed I have two painful blisters, one on the inside of my labia and the other on the other lip. I shave and I've had ingrown hairs but these definitely don't feel the same. They are super uncomfortable. I'm unable to go to the doctor until The end of the week and wanted to see if anyone knew what they might be? And any temporary ideas for pain relief? Over the counters pain killers do nothing. Also, I have extremely bad allergies to pollen and with the pollen, came these blisters, so I am not sure if they are related. I've added pictures below. Thanks for the help.

Chlamydia :: Tested Negative But Having Symptoms

A little over a month ago I had unprotected intercourse with a girl at the small school I go to. Then I heard about a chlamydia outbreak among the athletes at the school and she was one. After I found this out, which was about 2 weeks after it happened, I went and got tested even though I had no symptoms. The results came back negative but after I got tested symptoms like a very slight irritation here and there. About 2 weeks ago I woke up with a lot of eye discharge but that went away and now the past week I have had very very slight clear and kind of sticky discharge. I didn't know if the test could have been wrong? If not, could this be from a lot of stress about it?

Urinary Tract Infection :: Tested Negative - But Still Have Symptoms?

For the past few weeks I've been dealing with what I thought was a possible UTI. I  haven't had pain, but  feel the need to urinate after just going to the the restroom. However, I keep testing negative for nitrates, LEU and protein on a dipstick. I also tested negative in the doctor's office and was prescribed ABs that didn't seem to do much.

Is it possible to test negative so many times and still have an infection? Or could this be something else?

Herpes :: Negative Western Blot And A Positive IGg?

What makes the western blot test different from the test they give us when we go to the doctor? Has anybody had a negative western blot and a positive IGg? My result was 2.4 IGg. Should I retake the IGg?

Herpes :: Western Blot - Positive For HSV 1, Negative For HSV 2

I think I may be overly paranoid . But to make a long story short, I had a positive hsv 2 herpeselect 2.55 gig . No symptoms or a reason to believe I had the virus . Just routine testing . I was encouraged to get a western blot in which I did and came back positive for hsv 1 but negative for hsv2. I'm soo happy.. The last time I had sex was two years ago unprotected , with someone who is suspect (don't know their sexual history ).. But I'm still paranoid after the western blot!! I know it's a great test for confirmation, but that lingering thought of me hovering hsv 2 is in my head?

Herpes :: From Last OR Most Recent Partner?

Only days after being with my latest partner I have what I believe to be my first outbreak. At first I thought it was vaginal tearing from rough intercourse but it's only seemed to have gotten worse in the last 4 days. I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow but I want to be as prepared as possible to having the "talk" if the results are positive. From what I've read and know about having the chickenpox the virus can stay dormant in your spine and some people never have symptoms but if you do have symptoms does that mean you got it from your last partner or could it be possible that I received it from a previous partner?

Can I Get Herpes From A Partner With Sore Throat ?

I went to see my doctor today due to painful bumps on my penis. After an examination, he concluded that I had the herpes simplex. I have only ever had sexual relations with one partner and both of us were virgins before we got involved with one another. Neither one of us had any stds.

I did have oral sex with my partner while she had a sore throat (just a common cold). My doctor said that that is how I got it. But I don't understand how her sore throat could have given it to me if she didn't even have the herpes virus!! Is this possible? How can it come from nothing?

Herpes :: Sex With Asymptomatic Virus Shedding Partner

I've been seeing this sweet girl for a month and a half now.

I know her background pretty well, as she's a friend of a friend.

She's a shy, quiet and reserved person with no history of STDs, and has only had one sexual partner before me.

Five days ago, we kissed and had protected sex using a condom.

Last night after dinner, I noticed a tingling/slightly burning sensation on a small part of my upper lip.

It's a sensation similar to when you have really dry and chapped lips, and the skin starts to recover, except perhaps a little more intense.
I'm really paranoid about having contracted HSV-1 orally, even though I have none of the other symptoms usually associated with an outbreak.

Because I'm a germaphobe, I live my life more carefully than most others; never really come into physical, skin-on-skin contact with other people (minus handshakes and hugs), and always pay close attention to what I do whenever my skin is damaged a little from being dry or cut.

Neither she (19 years old) nor I (23) have ever had an outbreak of cold sores, but I'm aware that you can carry the virus around all your life without ever knowing - that goes for the both of us.

Both her and my dad do get occasional cold sore outbreaks.

I guess what I'm after here more than anything, is a rough estimate on how likely I am to contract HSV-1 from her, with all the above details taken into account.

As a worst-case scenario, let's assume that she is carrying the virus, but is completely asymptomatic.

What are the odds of becoming infected from asymptomatic shedding?

In other words, what sort of transmission rates am I looking at for asymptomatic shedding?

If what I'm feeling on my lip is the beginning of a cold sore, at what point in time should I be able to SEE something on the lips at the spot? Because I've been up close with a magnifying glass and a flashlight and the area looks perfectly normal.

A related, but I guess more of a bonus question:

I called my doctor earlier this week, in an attempt to set up an STD screening as my new relationship becomes increasingly intimate - I'm confident that I'm clean, but it would be nice to have that confirmed.

I asked for an STD test and would like testing for HSV-1 and HSV-2 included as well, to which she replied, puzzled, why on earth I'd want that?

I explained my situation and that I'd like to know my herpes status, so I'd at least know where I stand in relation to my new girl.

She then said that she saw no reason to test for that at all, especially since I've never had an outbreak.

To be honest, this reaction from a medical professional kinda shocked me.

If a patient requests a specific test for a lifelong, incurable disease, why would a doctor stall like that?

At the very least, shouldn't she be interested in trying to prevent the further spread of the virus, by allowing me to know if I already have it - or if I don't have it, so that I'll be a bit careful about what I do?

Any input except "oh get over yourself, cold sores are so common, everyone has them!"

I'll take any fighting chance I can get, if it means I get to live out the rest of my life without having to constantly worry about infecting others and having blisters on my face.

Herpes :: Chances Of Transmitting It To Your Partner? (outbreaks And Meds)

So I've been "with" someone since August and I've only ever had one outbreak last October. I take the medication somewhat sporadically but more often if I know we are going to mess around. I was wondering if anybody with genital herpes has NOT given it to their partner when or if they have unprotected sex? It's possible right? I mean for your partner to not catch it? The doctor told me the meds would help reduce outbreaks and the chance of me giving it someone. Is this true? Has anybody had unprotected sex with someone and they didn't catch it?

Herpes :: Asymptomatic Transmission Of HSV1 To Monogomous Male Partner

BF of 1.5 years recently had his first OB, culture came back positive (they didn't test for which type)  [I go in Monday to have routine blood work, going to request them add HSV 2] Physician did not treat him for  HSV as his 3 ulcers did not appear to be HSV to the provider. His ulcers were painless however his malaise, fever and chills night sweats for 5 days bout did him in. II have HSV1 since a child. I Have not had an oral outbreak for 5 months. I am very particular and persistently cautious at the first sign of lip tingle, as I  how contagious herpes virus is and outbreaks are frustrating.  Even through all my meticulous behaviors,  he recently contracted HSV1 genital. I am hypothesizing from oral sex 12 days prior while I was menstruating I must of have been shedding oral HSV1 without any OB sign whatsoever. ( generally I break out during menstruration in the past) timeline is the best fit his IgG is neg leading me to believe a brand new infection for him. I am devastated that without an active oral outbreak I spread this to my partner.
Lifestyle, eating and supplement habits to read up on to prevent future genital outbreaks for him?

How often is HSV1 oral shedding asymptomatic?

How likely am I to get it HsV1 genital from him now?

Are there any additional precautions to take the first year beside condom use, no sex during any hint or active breakout?

Over the years will be begin to shed the virus less?

Thank you

HIV Prevention :: Positive Symptoms But Oraquick Negative

I just want to start by saying I'm an 18 year old female and have made some mistakes. In mid July(almost 5.5 months ago) I had brief unprotected sex with someone I did not know (huge mistake). It was less than 30 seconds and he did not ejaculate inside me. I felt fine until around October where I began to get worried about having an STD. I went to the doc and they cleared me of any sti but would not do any blood work because I had tested negative 3 months ago. I tried to explain to them it had been exactly 3 months since the encounter so I wanted to be retested but they refused, even though there is a lab on site. So I went home and in November bought an oraquick oral swab test at Walgreens. At 127 day past the encounter I took the oral swab and it was negative. I was eating a little before the test so three days later I bought another at 130 days and it was also negative. After this I felt way less anxious and I was able to enjoy my thanksgiving and felt like my normal self again. About a week later I feel a swollen lymph node on the side of my neck. It's still there, and not painful. No sore throat no fever. I seem to be experiencing loose stools though. So 141 days post exposure I took another oraquick test and it was negative. This time I followed the instructions to a t. Still worried about lymph nodes took another at 147 days and it was negative as well. I just can't relax because of the swollen lymph nodes. The reason I haven't been back to the doc is because I go every 3 months for a depo shot. My next appointment will be 6 months after encounter and any blood work would be definitive. I know this is a long post, but I can't help it I feel so anxious and depressed. Is there any way these tests are not picking up the antibodies? Why swollen lymph nodes if I haven't been infected.

HIV :: Detailed Test Negative - Preliminary Borderline Positive

I do not know what is preliminary and detail, but according to the health department of my country they should be ELISA and Western Blot.

So I was doing a routine physical, and the doctor suggested to check for HIV since I told him I am planning to have a baby. I have never engaged in any risky behaviour* thus no exposure.

Result came back and I was told the preliminary is borderline reactive but the "detail" test is negative. He asked me if I had done any of those risky things again. After I told him no he said I should be fine and shouldn't worry, but I should come back a month later to reconfirm. He did not ask me to take any precaution - which is kind of weird if you are asking someone to reconfirm a month later...

The only thing I considered with any "risk" is blood test, which I am always paranoid that the nurse "forget" to use a new syringe, either by accident or on purpose. But then my last blood test was done in May so if anything bad did happen I should be seeing a full positive/positive result..

I was googling and my situation usually comes to either:
a) recent infection
b) false positive
c) clinical error

Given my situation:
1) No risky behaviour
2) Has mild autoimmune disease (one of the possible factor to distort the test result I heard)
3) Never has any acute HIV infection symptoms (get a cold here and there, but it is always during the time where half the office is sick and never high grade fever)
4) Just a borderline result for ELISA, and negative Western Blot

The odd should be in (heavily) my favour, right? I am just mad that why don't they just do a viral load or similar test, instead of leaving me in paranoid for a month.

Herpes :: Western Blot - Possible False Positive?

I have been diagnosed with HSV 2 via western blot. I know it's the best test for diagnosing this virus.

But my question is this, are there any cases of a false positive with this test?  I really can't find much online. I have had zero symptoms. I'm not sure how long I have had this, but I'm guessing at least 4-6 months. That's how long it's been since my last ready came back negative. And my ex had admitted now he has it and it's been more than 3 months since we last had sex. So I'm guessing I caught it in that small window of time. I know he was cheating on me.

But could past history with having chicken pox, shingles, mono and HSV 1 also contribute to a false positive?
