Insomnia - Intense Dry Mouth And Accelerated Heart Rate

Jan 12, 2015

Prior to 3 weeks ago, I always slept through the night every night. Then on the Friday before Christmas, I started experiencing the same issue every night: I have no trouble falling asleep, I sleep for 2-3 hours, then am awakened with intense dry mouth (tongue feels like sandpaper) and an accelerated heart rate. It usually follows a brief nightmare, too.

I take a drink of water, then fall back asleep…only to awaken an hour later for the same reason. This goes on every hour all night…wake up with dry mouth and high heart rate (over 100 bpm), drink water, fall back asleep, repeat. In the morning, I feel exhausted from the whole experience and my chest muscles are sore. The resulting frustration has led to anxiety attacks during the day, too.

I’ve tried every dry mouth remedy: humidifier, oral patch (tablet on the roof of the mouth that melts during the night), BreatheRite nasal strips, Biotene mouth spray, lip balm, etc. I also considered the possibility that this is a nutrition-related problem — I recently went to a low-carb diet, so to counteract any possible nocturnal hypoglycemia, I added some complex carbs to dinner (brown rice, oatmeal, etc). Doctor can’t find anything wrong…EKG, bloodwork, etc all come back normal.

Nothing has helped. I never suffer from dry mouth during the day this is a nighttime issue only.

Heart Disease :: High Blood Pressure / Slow Heart Rate

I have a heart rate most of the time from 42 to 50 BPM , my blood pressure is usually 145 to 160 over 75 to 80.  My cardiologist has me taking  75 mg, of Lopressor, 360 mg, of verapamil, .4 mg nitroglycerin  patch. And now he wants to add 10 mg of Ramipril ( Altace ) a day, my recent cardiograms have have shown sinus bradycardia. That's before starting the Ramipril , I'm just very leary about starting the Ramipril in first of all the highest dose there is, and second of all it could further lower my heart rate and send my heart into an AV Block that could lead to many things not good !

Heart Disease :: Intense Cardio With Tachycardia And PACs?

I've started working out every day pretty intensely, as I'm trying to get very strong. I'm a seventeen year-old girl, and I was recently diagnosed to PACs and tachycardia, much to my surprise. I was completely unaware of these conditions until I went to my annual physical (which was the event my doctor discovered the conditions), two specialists, and had to wear a holter monitor for a day. My heartbeat is usually around 120, but the holter revealed it fluctuates anywhere from 56 to 173 BPM when I am not exercising. I have no idea how fast it goes when I exercise intensely or even at all.

Basically, I want to know if it's safe for me to be doing intensely strenuous exercises and intense cardio. I really want to be super strong and fit, and I know there are certain limits of mine involving cardio. Ex: I can't run a mile in under ten minutes because my heart prevents me from being able to breathe enough. But I use the stairmaster regularly and do intense muscular workouts, and I just wanted to make sure I'm not putting myself in danger.

Bisoprolol :: Slow Heart Rate

I have been on 1.25mg of bisoprolol for nearly a year now. I was put on it due to an irregular heartbeat. my heart would either miss a beat or totally go into overdrive. The doctor never sent me for further tests. So my question is what causes this problem.  My heart still jumps about but not as much. but sometimes when I do a little exercise I feel very odd for example can't lay on my left side because it hurts around my heart plus my chest can feel tight and today my heart rate is 52 where normally its in its 80's.

Asthma :: Fast Heart Rate

I am 24 years old, 82kg and been stressing about my health for the past month.

I first experienced a very fast heart rate from a short 2 min jog up the road were i had to stop and wait for my heart rate to slow down.
now since then my stamina has gradually gone right down to the point were I am unable to go up two flights of stairs without my heart racing and feeling out of breath. bearing in mind at rest I only experience a tight chest no shortness of breath.

To rule out heart problems I recently had a Echo-cardiogram,ECG,holter test and a chest x-ray. I was told all my valves were fine, my arteries were not blocked and my ecg came back abnormal but it was not serious. (all these tests were done in the past 3 weeks)

Now as I had my consultation with an expert they noticed I was wheezing and I explained to her every single day my chest feels sore and tight. even now as i type laying on my bed. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was a child but I seemed to grow out of it, however back in 2006 I had similar feeling to what I have experiencing now which is tight chest pains, shortness of breath. but I cant remember my heart jumping really high from exertion of walking up the stairs.

so now I am going to visit my asthma clinic on thursday to see what they say, suggest etc.

So my question is could these symptoms of tight chest and short breath be linked to my fast heart rate?

Heart Palpitations And Rapid Rate

Anyone who suffers anxiety knows what heart palpitations feel like. About 2 months ago, I was having them non-stop for days went to ER. They could see them on the monitor but said EKG looked okay and blood tests were normal. I still get them almost daily. They are scary and incredibly annoying, but I just try and cope with them. Well anyways, today I got to work and right after doing shift change, the phone rang and I needed to go assist a resident up on third floor. I don't like the elevator we have so i walked up the stairs. By the time I got up there I was so short of breath I could barely talk. And my heart rate was 144 and I could feel and literally see my heart beating. After sitting down and resting for about 5 minutes the pounding just stopped. I still have the palpitations though. The shortness of breath I am wondering if it is even related. I am 5months pregnant and I know that with my uterus expanding it can cause that. but something like this has never happened before. Last year I went to a cardiologist who did and EKG told me I had a sinus arrhythmia which is not serious and sent me on my way. I have smoked for a bout 7 years now, sometimes heavy others not so much. I have stress on a daily basis, and I do consume probably too much caffeine. I am 21 and otherwise in good health. Major anxiety though. Anyone have this happen before and turned out fine? I don't mean to sound like a hypo but I have two daughters already and it scares me to death to wonder where they would end up if anything were to happen to me.

Shortness Of Breath And An Elevated Heart Rate

I am a 27 year old male. I have a resting heart rate around 70 and healthy blood pressure. I am about 5'8" 150 pounds, I eat healthy and exercise 3-4 times per week.

Despite this, I often find myself short of breath despite not doing any strenuous activity (climbing a single flight of stairs). In addition, when I exercise my heart rate becomes elevated very quickly, even when I go at a moderate/slow pace (if I'm running 3 miles, it gets up to 130~ after 1 mile and is near 180 after 3 miles). My heart rate won't return to normal for several hours. 5-6 hours after I'm done exercising my heart rate will still be 15~ beats per minute above normal.

Does anyone know if these symptoms are all normal to have as you get older or should I go see a doctor? I mentioned these symptoms to a friend of mine who has a thyroid condition and she said it sounds like what used to happen to her before she was diagnosed and prescribed medicine.

Orlistat :: Burn Fat Exercise -make Your Heart Rate Up And Down

Theres a few posts so I thought id share what ive learnt from gym instructors and PT sessions

if you consistently do cardio at the same pace you just burn carbs and sugar leaving you drained and not burning fat.

you need to burn fat - take, your heart rate up and down. If you cant manage jogging and sprinting then slow walk 3 mph, fast walk 5/6mph. This is commonly known as HIIT or interval training.

for 10x more fat burning there is metabolic training using weights. Im now just moving on to this.

There's loads you can do at home if confidence or finances don't allow you to go to a gym. Last june I was so unfit I struggled to walk my dogs. Im now jogging with them. I did forgo a holiday to pay for PT though but best thing I did. I know go to gym a good 5/6 times a wk and love it.

and remember muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. 1lb of muscle is the same as 1lb of fat.

High Heart Rate, Chest Pains (For Months)

Hello, I am only in my 20s but I have been experiencing a dull chest pain on the left side of my chest, I have had it for about 2 months.

I am worried that something might be wrong with my heart as my resting heart rate is about 86-105, which of course is very high, I am a light smoker (10 a day) and after having a cigarette it can jump up to 140bpm+

If I do something like run up the stairs, or maybe do a fast walk it can jump up to 110 easily, if I check my heart rate after I get out of bed it will range from 65-75.

This all started a few months ago when I felt really weak one day and fell on my bet, and I couldn't move and had a great chest pain that felt like I was going to die, I was also shaking uncontrollably... I would have rang an ambulance but I couldn't get up...

I have been to the doctors a few time, and they either refuse to do anything because of my age and say that I am fine, or another time they said it might be indigestion (I took some tablets and my heart rate hasn't lowered or the chest pain hasn't stopped)

After begging the doctors to give me an ECG, it came back fine... But I feel they missed something as when they did it I wasn't feeling any chest pain (My heart rate was 90 at the time)

I wish they would give me a full checkup as something is clearly wrong... I am thinking heart failure, why can't they make me run on the spot or put me on a treadmill for 30 seconds so they can see how fast my heart is pumping.

This isn't anxiety, and I have never had a panic attack before... I am just worried that something might be wrong... And no doctor will check me out because of my age, I mean I think I had a heart attack a couple of months ago and now my heart is failing me!

What do I do!!! Where do I go for someone to give me a full checkup, all of the doctors I go to say something different (Some say indigestion, some say anxiety)

Would you guys say I had a heart attack and am now having heart failure? Or am I worrying about nothing, I just wish the doctors would give me a full physical!

Edit My heart rate as of now is 108, and I am having chest pains on the left side as always (Dull ones), my heart rate used to be in the 60s-low 70s... And this is what is making me think I am having heart failure, but the doctors won't take me seriously and won't give me proper checkups. Can it be something other than a problem with my heart?

Relationship Between Heart Rate (at Rest) And Blood Pressure?

I would be interested in your views on whether you believe that there is a relationship between heart rate (at rest) and blood pressure? My bp monitor always gives me my heart rate, which I guess is standard? But I got to thinking (my wife says this is dangerous for me!) why do bp monitors register heart rate unless there was a link to bp? I have "googled" it and can't find anything that is definitive. My resting heart rate hovers around 60 BPM which is quite good apparently. How much attention do you all take of the heart rate readings on your monitors?

Blood Pressure Variations Relation To Heart Rate

Lately I've been experiencing some concerning symptoms with blood pressure and heart rate. When I get up from either a lying or sitting position, after standing (or walking) for about ten to twenty seconds, I feel very lightheaded and on the verge of fainting. So I grabbed my blood pressure cuff today when this happened to see where I was registering. My BP was 77/57 and my heart rate was 127. And this was just from simply standing up. So I laid back down... And immediately took my BP in the lying position. It went to 149/87 with a heart rate of 75. It changed that much in 30 seconds.

I am currently trying to wean down from Carvedilol.. Was taking 3.125 mg four times daily. After complaining to my cardiologist about nasty side effects (including this drop in BP) he said to cut it in half.

I didn't take the larger dose very long.. Only about a week.
I just wonder if the larger dose could be the culprit.

I have never tolerated the beta blockers well at all. Metoprolol and Atenolol were disasters too.

I'd like to get off BP meds completely, but each time I tried to wean off, my BP would skyrocket.

One thing that is going on right now as well is some serious abdominal pain. Don't know if that's a side effect of Carvedilol or not.

I've had extensive blood work, endoscopy, colonoscopy, abdominal CT, chest xray, many EKGs, and wore a 30 day event monitor.
Virtually all tests were normal.

Here's what did show up though:

Found a small lesion on a parathyroid gland.
Free thyroxine was "slightly" elevated.
Mitral Valve Prolapse with mild regurgitation.
2 very small nodules in lungs (benign according to lung dr)
Some pleural thickening (probably scar tissue from old infection)
Event monitor caught some VT and SVT.

The doctors are telling me these things are insignificant and need no attention.
Family and friends think stress and anxiety are to blame.
But I feel like crap every day. Blood pressure spikes (highest was 210/110)
Heart rate escalates with minimal activity. Night sweats, horrible headaches, severe abdominal pain. Weight loss of 20 pounds in past 6 months. Brain fog and concentration problems.

I've read lots of things that can explain all this:

Dysautonomia
Fibromyalgia
Chronic Fatigue
POTS
Food Intolerance
And of course.. Stress.

Cardiovascular ::22 - Palpitations And High Blood Pressure And Heart Rate

have been suffering from palpitations every now and then for the past few years but they have been getting a lot worse recently to the point where if I walk up one set of stairs my heart goes berserk and I have to catch my breath once I get to the top. And sometimes just randomly it will feel like it's pounding so hard and fast and nothing I can do to calm it down just wait. I suffer high blood pressure and take medicine. I'm 22 years old. Healthy I'm not overweight. My doctor recently said for me to get a 24 hour heart monitor which I did yesterday and no waiting on the results. Has anyone else had similar symptoms to mine? Or does anyone know what it could be besides anxiety cause I know what anxiety feels like and this is different. It's like my heart just goes crazy sometimes! I'm anxious about the results! If anything was bad they would contact me within a couple of days of receiving the heart monitor right? They say wait up to a week but if urgent will be sooner.

Cardiac Arrhythmias :: Palpitations And Fast Heart Rate On Exertion

I have some strange feelings and etc for around 6 months. I don't have any panic attacks or anxiety from long time ago, but something is wrong with me. For example in morning I stand up from bed and my heart rate goes to around 130 or when i climb up stairs ( around 20 of them) i get heart rate around 170 per min. That's not normal I know, but I have had heart ECG, heart ULTRASOUND,blood tests and etc and everything is fine. But on left side of chest I have pressure, feels like some organ is swollen or I don't know, maybe lung is pressed or something. I had also lungs x-ray but it came out fine. When heart is beating fast, i feel pain in my upper chest like in my airways, and when my heart calms down i have sore upper chest. 1 month ago i got maybe palpitations but not sure if it's palpitations, happens most when im standing. I get fast squeeze in left chest like my left lung is squeezed, but in this second my heart stops beating and then starts after 1sec beat fast and again slowly. I really dont know what to do, because im sure i dont have anxiety or panic. I was on xanax, citalopram, lexotanil for long time and nothing helped me for that. P.S My left leg is always cold, mostly when im laying down. Sometimes i get vibrating sound in my left chest and i don't know what is this. Mostly im scared if its my heart or what... Doctors said im okay, but i still feel not normal and without full access to live my life.. I had also brain scans, neck x ray and all is fine. All tests I had everything is normal. What do you think I should check? Please don't write about psychology problems, because its not this and im sure its not in my head.

High Heart Rate And Blood Pressure On Standing (rise)

I am a 41 year old mom of four and a foster son.  I was diagnosed with sarcoidosis of the lungs about 10 years ago and soon after began experiencing numerous cardiac symptoms.  I  experience extra beats, which I have had occasionally since I was about 21, but have also experienced incredible pounding and pressure in my upper belly, chest, neck, and up into my ears. It is similar to feeling like someone turns up the pressure of my blood vessels like turning up a hose or something and you feel every heart beat so strong and powerful. This would happen with any slight exertion (sitting up, standing, trying to walk up a slight incline etc.) My blood pressure and heart rate would rise drastically (once documented in the hospital my bp. went from normal 114/70 to 167/100 and hr. went from 70 to 160s just from standing slowly)   My husband, for a while, had to carry me up the stairs because of the pounding and pressure.  I would have to do a little bit of exertion and then stop to let the pounding up my throat, neck, head etc. die down some and them take some more steps.  or whenever I stood/stand up have to wait for the rush of pounding pressure to lessen and then start to walk.  I have been on metoprolol for about three years now to help extra beats and also to control the surge of my bp. and hr.  The docs can't figure out why its happening. The meds have helped a little so that I can walk around now but not much more then that.  Thing are worse around my period and that's the only pattern I have figured out.  The extra beats make me feel like I'm a slave to them . I feel like they control what I do and I don't do.  I don't want to leave the house so I won't experience them when I'm away from where I feel the most safe and comfortable(home)  My life has changed so much.  I use to play volleyball and be active and miss it so much.  I stay at home and my family goes to hike. Even when I'm having a better day and Id like to try and do some activity I'm so petrified that I'm going to do too much and something is going to happen.  I'm so tired of feeling this way.  I feel like I don't have a second that I'm not thinking about my heart and is it going to stop, or should I try to walk up the stairs cause I know that it makes me feel worse and leads to extra beats, pounding etc.  I tend to notice that lifting, bending, sitting up from laying down tend to bring on extra beats, but sometimes its just after I sit or lay down.  It makes it so hard to just relax cause I'm always wondering when the next one will come and how bad will it be and how bad will it make me feel.  I tend to yawn and burp more when I having more pvc's/pac's

Standing / Exertion :: Rise In Blood Pressure And Heart Rate?

Does anyone experience a rise in blood pressure and heart rate when they stand up or do slight exertion?  Also, my heart pounds up into my throat, neck and ears and get extra beats in my heart. I am also very sensitive to adrenaline.  Even the smallest things can get my heart pounding.   Doctors can't figure it out and there solution is to keep me on a beta blocker (Metoprolol extended release)  They have doubled my dose now from 25ml. once a day to 50ml. once a day.  I just want to find out why it's happening.   It was suggested to me that it possibly could be some form of dysautonomia.  I would appreciate any advice I can get.

Depression :: Nortriptyline - Increased Heart Rate, High Blood Pressure

Has anyone taken nortriptyline a period of time and decided to stop taking it due to it's side effects with success? The side effects I'm experiencing are increased heart rate, high blood pressure, hair thinning/loss and muscle twitchings/spasms.

Brief story about me: I was never a headache person or a migraineur. I only got these headaches after a lumbar puncture 7 months ago. Needless to say, it has changed my life as I am having headaches 50-100 times a day. I'm currently taking 10-20 mg nortriptyline to keep the intensity down, but the side effects is giving me a lot of problems (increased heart rate and hair thinning/loss are my biggest problems). I'd like to hear from anyone who has a similar story to mine.
