Side Effects :: Topamax - Compromised Liver Function?

I am a 30 year old mother of two and I've been a migraine sufferer since I was 16, where this used to be occasional a few months ago they became more frequent, occurring about 3-5 times a month with headaches in between. Up until this point in my life I never felt the need to be on any kind of medication for them, at this point I was desperate. I was popping Excedrin, Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Advil, whatever I could get my hands on just to function. After a trip to the ER to receive a nice little "migraine cocktail" to relieve my pain, I scheduled a visit with my PCP who sent me to a neuro.

This is my second trip to a neuro. Two years ago, I had an incident where out of the blue, my speech became garbled, I couldn't make any sense out of what I was saying and moments of my memory were erased. I was sent to a neuro then too (a different one) by the same PCP who did a quick little physical to be sure I hadn't had a stroke and sent me on my way. At this appointment, the doctor attributed my migraines to stress given I'm a single mother, prescribed me Topamax in addition to Imitrex to take PRN. She started me on 25mg to take twice a day for two weeks. After two days I started noticing weird side effects, tingling down my left arm and feeling like I didn't have full control of the arm. My index finger would move by itself, twitching (which is frustrating when you have to type for a living). The next side effect was my inability to form a sentence, again, very frustrating! I knew exactly what I wanted to say but for the life of me could not spit it out! I called the doctor's office, the doctor was out but they said they would relay the message and call me back. When they did they said she wanted me to stay on it but take it at night to reduce the side effects. Two weeks later it was time for me to double my dose, now I was taking 100mg daily.

I have now been on Topamax for a month and I am having tons of bruising on my arms, legs and hips with no explanation, hair loss and today I noticed my eyes are yellow. I went to E Care and they are running tests on my liver functions and have ordered me to stop the medicine cold turkey, hoping for no bad side effects of that because I can't take any OTC medications.

Has anyone else experienced liver damage from Topamax?

Migraine With Aura :: Amitriptyline Side Effects?

Was diagnosed last year as having migraine with aura. started off with numbness all down my neck and left arm, confusion at times and the very odd headache. woke one morning and thought i was having a stroke... i was confused , completely numb and disoriented. went to A&E and was admitted for 5 days of tests and scans.

i had a MRI brain scan, MRI neck scan, CT brain scan, chest x rays, neck Xrays and every imaginable blood test you could imagine. all negative and clear, except for neck MRI showing a slight bulge in the c6/c7 disc but not impinging on any nerves.

so after seeing the neurologist i was sent home with the diagnosis of migraine with aura and given a 6 month prescription for amitriptyline.

after researching the amitriptyline i decided not to take it , as i didn't feel that the rare headaches i was getting were bad and as i have a young child with some medical issues i needed to be alert at night in case he needed me.

since june i was being suffering with a constant headache, on my left side, and when its bad it goes right in behind my eyes and across my forehead. it was coming and going but its been constant for the last few days and im wondering if this is really migraine.im also suffering from regular panic attack lately . does migraine last persistently for days or weeks, should the aura symptoms not disappear when there is no headache.... i am so scared that there is something else going on even though all tests were clear.... thinking of going to GP and maybe trying the amitriptyline but from researching it seems that preventative medication is hit or miss and usually comes with side effects.....

Migraine :: Gabapentin - Side Effects Long Term?

My husband has been suffering with unbearable headaches for 15 years. Over the last few months they have become so much worse to the point that he is in a ball, crying in pain, he can't see, can't walk, he was ranting during one attack that he was going to take all of the tablets he could find. He has no memory of saying these things when the headache has eased. He tells me the headache is there constantly but gets worse really quickly. He usually wakes up with the headache although they sometimes come on during the day. They are usually at the sides of his head above his eyes but swaps sides and sometimes goes down his neck. He gets them everyday for a week then has a few days to a week then they start again. He has had a number of GPs all of which have said he doesn't need to be referred to a specialist it is migraines as if it was anything 'serious' we'd have known by now ie nOt a brain tumour. He has had many preventative medicines but none have helped. His latest GP has prescribed gabapentin which was prior to his last and worst attack so far. When we explained what happened she merely raised the dosage and gave imigran for pain relief. I just wondered if anyone has been prescribed gabapentin long term for migraines and if there are any long term side effects as I've heard there are a number namely vitamin B 12 deficiency, pulmonary problems, long and short term memory loss.

Migraine :: Botox, Metoprolol, Topamax, Wellbutrin Experience

I have suffered from migraines since I was 9.  These are the drugs I have tried:

 -Metoprolol which did nothing just lowered my already low blood pressure

 -Topamax, it worked amazingly until my hair started falling out

 -Amitriptyline which worked but all I wanted to do was sleep and eat

 -Nortriptyline which gave me a headache

-Wellbutrin, worked until I had a Steven-Johnson reaction and am still waiting 4 weeks later for my taste buds to grow back.

-Botox, total waste of my $280, except that I had couldn't move my forehead muscles, lol.

Then my doc wanted me to try depakote, which I drew the line at! All of these toxic medications and I was back at square 1.  My hubby did research and out of 300 reviews of BUTTERBUR (all natural), they were almost all positive.   It did say might take a month to work also.  I was having migraines daily. The first day I took it, no migraine. I was shocked and relieved.  I am now on day 8 and yesterday I had the teensiest migraine ever so I also took a feverfew, which according to Dr Oz and internet research, helps with migraines.  It went away.  I hope this is the solution. So tired of medications with horrible side effects.  Butterbur is also used as an antispasmodic/muscle relaxer and I have noticed since taking it i have had no back pain, and I sleep so sound at night (used to wake up 4-5 times a night).

Migraine :: Nortriptyline Mild Side Effects - Numbness In My Legs, Feet And Hands

I've started taking 25MG of nortriptyline for migraines- my dosage goes up to 50 MG at the end of the week. The first few days of taking it, I experienced physical exhaustion and grogginess, as well as numbness in my legs, feet, and hands, but nothing too bad that impaired me. I also have felt more mentally focused. Any thoughts?

Ramipril :: Side Effects

I am a 47 year old male (right weight for height) and reasonably fit running three times a week who has recently had to visit the doctor (first time in years) for severe neck pain caused by strenuous gardening work -so called leisure.

However my blood pressure was checked over the past few weeks and has found to be continuously very high ranging 190/115 to 150/90. My GP has decided to put me on ramipril starting with 2.5mg increasing to 5 mg and then 10mg over six weeks. On reading the comments about side effects I am really concerned which has now possibly increased my blood pressure further - really concerned on what to do, should I get a second opinion through my private medical before starting this treatment?

Oxytetracycline Bad Side Effects

I used the tablets for 5 months and a bit, should be taking it for 6 months but i decide to give into not taking them due to really bad side effects.

When i started, i took 2 TWICE a day for 4 months but, rashes appeared on my cheeks, completely red and skin dried also on my nose. I couldn't bear the suffering, i applied creams like E45 (made things worse for me) then i switched to sudocrem, applying it to my face where the rashes were. this seemed to help stop the rash from getting any worse. I went to see the doctor who said i should cut down on the tabs to 1 Twice a day so i finally started to heal from the rashes. I carried on using the tabs this way until the rashes appeared on my nose again, it was really bad.

To those who suffer from Eczema, be warned as this course may effect it, making it really bad. This is the reason why i have to quit from this 6 month course (am finishing on 5 and a bit months) As for acne, it helped clear it up nicely even old scars until a point where my skin could heal no further ( i stayed the same after the 3rd month) so hopefully, changes are permanent and my side effects will go away from stopping this course.

Ramipril :: Problematic Side Effects

Put on this drug for HBP 2.5mg then 5 mgs had various problematic side effects went to doctor to advise him of my problems with this drug. He then increased the dosage to 10 mgs which I have taken now for 2 months and the problems have multiplied to a point when I have become so ill with all the problems highlighted in these messages that I stopped taking the drug and started to feel better within 3 days. I wonder now what the reaction will be from my GP when I tell him that I want to try an alternative drug. Having high blood pressure I could do without worrying about his comments which other people have endured when they have asked to have an alternative drug.

Citalopram :: 7 Weeks - Side Effects Almost Gone

I'm on week 7 of 10 mg, and am pleased to say that my pounding heart, dry mouth and nausea have disappeared, I've only had a couple of headaches, my jaw clenching and tensing up have almost gone.  I'm still struggling sleeping but I've never been good at that anyway, so I'll just see how that goes.  I don't feel like skipping through life every day, but I certainly don't feel really low any more, I just feel 'steady'.  Stick with it everyone, and thank you for your support.

Pregnancy :: Side Effects Of Omeprazole?

I'm on my 12th week. I've been diagnosed before with GERD. Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
