Neurological Disorders :: Am I Having Seizures?

Apr 13, 2015

Back when I was 15 I started fainting, it didn't happen often but it always seemed to be in the morning after a cigarette. I would feel myself going, my fingers would go all tingly, and it would work all the way up to my head and my vision would go blurry and then i would fall. Over the next few years it was happening about once a year but this time it seemed to be caused by severe period pains - it happened at work once and an ambulance was called and apparently everything was fine with me. When it was period pain related i had more the sweats that would start right before and my hearing would go all tinny.

I am now nearly 25 and like most young adults I often go out drinking with my friends. It now seems these 'faints' are happening the morning after the night before type thing. It's happened twice in the past 3 months, once at home and one last week on a bus on the way to work.

Once again, i get the tinny hearing, tunnel/blurry vision, excessive sweating and heavy breathing and then i just go, but on the past 2 occasions, i've woken up almost having a fit - but its only my head that is shaking from side to side and i can't control it for a good 30 seconds and can't figure out where i am and am so confused... On top of this, on both occasions (unlike the previous 10 years) i have lost bladder control.

As i was on the bus for the most recent one i was roughly able to work out how long i was out for judging from memory of where i lost consciousness to where i regained it and it must've been 1-2 minutes. I don't think i could've been 'fitting' that bad on the bus as my head bust rested on the chair in front and i woke up smacking it with my head (sounds funny now, terrifying at the time!) so must've just looked like a weirdo on the bus. When it happened in my kitchen, i felt myself going so sat down but woke up with my head smacking against my cupboard door.

It's a horrible feeling and i know by the sounds of it alcohol is the main cause but i have many friends that drink a lot more than me and they certainly don't have any of this.

It's worth noting that i have been on Citalopram (10mg) since August 2014  -although i don't think the dose is strong enough to make any change to my mood let alone any side effects. I'm currently undergoing tests for a lump found in my breast which has been ruled out of being a cyst so awaiting results until beginning of May.

Is this anything to be worried about do you think? I've resisted going to the dr's as when it's happened before and paramedics were called and they said it was nothing and when i fainted in oct 2013 i went to A&E and he said i had extreme low blood pressure and i just got up too quick... but other than that, all blood tests and BP checks i've had in the past 2 years have said im fit as a fiddle basically.

Neurological Disorders :: Periodic Muscle Weakness

3 years ago i developed muscle weakness in my legs that meant i could not take a normal step or raise my leg off the bed, after about 2 weeks this started affecting my arms as well meaning i could not lift my arms above my head, the weakness is periodic and last for anything from 5 mins to 6 days. it varies in strength, when its at its worst i cannot walk at all. the longest i have been symptom free is 5 months. there is no pain involved at all. i have seen various neurologists and had MRIs and EMGs, my reflexes remain intact, i have also seen a psychiatrist who said i need to see a neurologist.

Neurological Disorders :: Involuntary Snorting Every 45 Seconds

My 30 year old daughter has been doing this for the last several years. She can resist doing it for a while, but typically snorts every 45 seconds or so when she doesn't feel a need to limit it. It's loud and unpleasant. She says it feels like she can't breathe so she is actually snorting in her throat more than her nose. She feels like her throat is tight and not letting in enough air. I know it's bothersome for her, but it is maddening for those she lives with.

Neurological Disorders :: Dizzy/lightheaded Racing Heart

I have been experiencing dizziness and lightheaded feelings every day and night for the past couple of weeks. I already had issues before (for almost four years) but never as bad as recently. On top of that, my face gets flushed easily but I also get cold spontaneously (almost as if I have a fever but whenever I'm at the doc my temperature is ok). My blood pressure used to always be within the 115/65 range but recently it's been around 135/80 resting and can go up to 150/85 just from talking a walk. After walks I usually feel more dizzy, my heart races with any light physical activity (I used to be pretty physically active when I was healthier). To add to the symptoms, I also get visual disturbances at times, as if my eyes can't focus, and I get dizzy when looking down or following faster moving objects (example- I tried to play video games and couldn't continue after 10min). My sleep has been interrupted, every night I wake up dizzy and feeling uneasy, my heart rate always jumps from slight movement. All of these symptoms are building up stress and anxiety, I feel lost and hopeless because I am constantly miserable. My blood work always comes out fine, doctors can't find anything "obvious".

Just wondering if anyone has similar symptoms or would have any suggestions... To add to this, I am 24 years old, non-smoker, don't drink and my BMI is within range.  Doctors have not been able to help me and most of them don't understand that this is completely preventing me from living a normal life. I get light headed and dizzy if I try to exercise, walk up the stairs, go in an elevator, turn too fast or sometimes it happens from just sitting and not moving. Usually my heart rate is part of the symptoms and it becomes elevated spontaneously.

Neurological Disorders :: Choroidal Fissure Cyst Loss Of Taste, Hearing Loss

Last year(2014) I started having some health issues. In March I was diagnosed with Mastoiditis. After that I began to have vision issues with pain and was diagnosed with Optic Neuritis in my left eye. I did 3 days of Solumedrol at home and followed with oral steroids. Since then I have had on and off hearing loss on left side and have lost my sense of taste 3 times for a few weeks. I recently had a mri and they found a 12mm choroidal fissure cyst on my left side. I also have tingling and numbness in my left foot and leg. I still have blurry and double vision in my left eye at times. I had previous ct scans and mris and there was no cyst present. Could this newly found cyst be causing my issues?

Neurological Disorders :: Discolouration On Optic Nerve With Septo-Optic Dysplasia

I have Septo-optic dysplasia, and I'm lucky if I ever get to see someone who's even heard of it because it's apparently one of those rare and awkward conditions with varying symptoms. But basically, in my case, the nerves in my eyes didn't develope well or at all.

I have 6/60-6/48 vision in my right eye and 0 in my left eye; as in I don't even see black or anything at all. I don't think light could ever get in there.

My most recent check up at the Optician showed some discoloration on the optic nerve in my left eye (the blind eye). It appeared black, apparently, which my Optician said meant it had been there a long time, as opposed to grey? But no one seems to know if this is normal for an optic nerve that never formed properly.

Apparently the discoloration is not mentioned in any of my letters on record, though. Is that weird? That's the only thing making me worried. Some people say it should be obvious so not included, but others say that means it's new?

Neurological Disorders :: Pseudobular Palsy? (Or A Bulabar Palsy?)

A person i know has suffered a stroke 8 years ago. He says he woke up at night wanting to go to the bathroom, but found unable to get up. He had his mouth drawn to the right side. His wife has taken him to the hospital. He was diagnosed to have suffered a stroke and had hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

The patient suffers dysarthria without improvement ever-since. Has drooling, fasciculations in the tongue. A small dent in the tongue which (i'm not sure) may be attributed to wasting. Jaw jerk is normal (I think so). No weakness in arms and legs.

What is this condition. IS it Pseudobulbar palsy? (Or a bulbar palsy?)

P.S: There is not pseudobulbar affect in this patient. Can a patient have pseudobulbar palsy without having emotional instability?

Neurological - Foggy And Blocked / Fatigue / Drowsiness?

Since this June I have been to so many places from my physician’s office to the ER and everywhere in-between. Nobody can find what's wrong with me. I’ve had two neurologists give up on me and one who (after running a bunch of tests) say I have anxious tendencies. I had every test possible ran on me and they all came back normal. Actually on paper I’m as healthy as can be. That's the problem, all my test results are perfect so people think there’s nothing wrong. It’s hard to explain what I feel like. My thoughts feel foggy and blocked, I’ve become very forgetful and academically I’m struggling. That is only the mental portion unfortunately. Physically I have muscle cramps, fatigue/drowsiness, disorientation, trembling, tingling, and clumsy-ness. I’ve had a spinal tap, loads of blood tests, two EEGs, MRIs, and been evaluated by six different doctors. Every blood test you could think of has been ran on me. Including heavy metals, vitamin b-12, Lymes, lupus, hormones, blood sugar… there are loads more but I can’t remember them all. I’m worried most about the cognitive aspect of my problem. Its very debilitating. Some days are better than others, and some are worse. Today was one of the bad days. I can’t  stay focused or have clear thoughts. When I talk I don’t make much sense. I say words that don’t fit into context, have a very hard time finding words, and as a result, can’t keep up a conversation very well. I try my hardest to overcome these problems but I don’t think its a matter of how much effort I put forth. Some days I just can not think straight. I even have problems understanding what people say to me. I understand the words, but the meaning of what’s said just doesn’t get through. Like I said, some days are better than others. The memory isn’t isolated to only short-term or the forming of new memories. I have a hard time remembering things that happened long ago as well as what happened five minutes ago. The things I remember are fragments and very inconsistent. I was stating to think that my problem could be low magnesium or something like that which was overlooked. From my understanding of a mangesium deficiency. It takes a long time for you to become deficient. This makes sense because this problem didn’t just stat overnight, I’ve actually been having this problem since February. I’ve been blowing off the symptoms as lack of sleep or just being tired but it built up to the point that I realized something was truly wrong. So magnesium might make sense, maybe. I’m just guessing at this point though.

So, what do you think? If you have any ideas what the problem could be please let me know. As I said before, I’ve had my heavy metals, Lymes, hormones, vitamin b-12, lupus, csf (spinal tap), and blood sugar checked. I’ve also had a complete metabolic panel ran, a complete hormonal panel, and complete nutritional panel checked. I think an allergist might be a good idea but I’m not sure. I guess its worth a shot.

Here’s some info about me. I’m 17 years old, male, 5’9’’ and weigh 128 LBs. The problem is constant 24/7, never goes away.

Neurological :: 20 Yo - Numb And Shaky Hands, Tired And Depression

I've been dealing with dizziness, tingly/numb hands, shaky hands, weakness, constantly feeling tired, depression, memory problems, cognitive issues such as having a hard time focusing on things and getting confused easily, headaches, abdominal pain, bloating and cramping, lower back pain, knee pain, and nausea for about a year and three months. I've had a CT scan of my head, blood test, abdominal and pelvic ultrasounds and everything came back clear. I'm only 20 but always feel sick and much older because of it. Any ideas what this could be?

Pernicious Anaemia :: Copper Deficiency - Outstanding Neurological Symptoms

I was diagnosed with copper deficiency a few months ago and sent for further investigations prior to treatment. As all scans, eye tests and liver functions were fine and no signs of copper storage or damage anywhere else as might explain the deficiency in my blood, so they have now decided that I am not deficient after all and I have not been treated.

These were my results which are all pretty low within the normal ranges (in brackets):

Copper 9.3 umol/L (normal is 12.0 - 20.0)

Free Copper <1% (<25%)

Ceruloplasmin 0.20 g/L (0.20 - 0.40)

I also have Pernicious Anaemia (B12 deficiency) and the two conditions often appear together and have similar symptoms. I have very regular B12 injections so I am happy that is under control but as there are still outstanding neurological symptoms, I am wondering if this is due to the low copper levels?

Has anybody else had similar results, please?

Epilepsy :: Are These Seizures Or Something Else?

For nearly a year now I have been having these symptoms, which are really starting to affect my life and college work.

Start off first with zoning out of conversations and just not being quite with it.

Then comes loss of consciousness and eyelid fluttering.

Then confusion, wandering round, verbal aggression (not screaming or anything, but apparently I can be quite rude)

Then I come round, just feeling tired.

Altogether (apart from tiredness) this can last anything up to an hour. I don't remember anything of these, and all the information has come from witnesses. I have had an EEG and MRI, which were clear. So why am I still having these?

Epilepsy :: Are These Seizures?

About 10 years ago I had something that resembled a stroke. I felt really strange that day and thought I needed to dilate my veins, i reasoned a run might help. After running about half a mile half the side of my body tensed or stiffened up; my head locked to one side, my arm curled in, my fingers curled in, the same side's leg stiffened and it was hard to walk. This lasted for something like 4 hours, and since then I've had trouble concentrating on things and the left side of my head/brain feels like numb/inflamed. I went to the ER and they gave me an MRI and said I had a brain cyst.

I always thought it was a stroke and I got some degree of damage, but a recent MRI doesn't show evidence of a stroke (but the pineal cyst is still there). So if it wasn't a stroke then what was it? Does this sound like an asymmetric tonic seizure?

I've had some other incidents that I thought were panic attacks where my vision goes dark, my hearing goes away and have to fight to not black out. Is my pineal cyst causing me seizures? I don't shake though.
