I was diagnosed with pleurisy a few weeks shoot felt like was getting better but 4 days later it's starting to affect me again. Can pleurisy return like that or could it be something else wrong with my chest? My d diamond blood test I had to was high it was on the thousands. Has anyone else ever had this?

Historically I presented with low Cortisol and High ACTH.
* After a Dexamethasone Suppression test my blood cortisol was less than 1mcg (whatever that means)
* 17 Alpha Hydroxyprogesterone was 849
* ACTH Stim test results:
Baseline- 10mcg
30 min.- 13mcg
60 min.- 15mcg
By way of background I have typical cushing's symptoms but my early labs including 24 hour urine were normal. So of course doctors have been dismissive. I had a brain MRI for tinnitus and convinced the radiologist to include the pituitary and a microadenoma was found. Now doctors are taking me seriously thank goodness. I had a an ACTH stimulation test a couple of days ago and these are the results posted online:
Base cortisol 42.0
30 min cortisol 26.0
60 min 49.2
Normal range for morning (test done at about 9 am): 6.2-19.4
At the end of December my blood work came back positive for hsv2. I haven't had symptoms or outbreaks. After doing research I found that result index levels above 1.1 are considered positive but below 3.0 are low risk and could be false. Mine was 1.2. I had a flu shot the same day as my blood work. Could this have given a false result?
View 2 RepliesI am a 22 yr old male weighing about 165. I have recently been told I have an enlarged spleen. We have done chest x-ray, two blood tests, an abdomen CT along with a chest CT. Everything is normal, other than the spleen. It has been over a month of testing with no answers. They are now referring me to an oncologist, but why? Wouldn't my other tests show something significant? The pain is worse when I eat, but it is mostly a constant sharp pain that radiates to my chest. Now I am feeling leg pain as well.

View 1 RepliesI have so many Addison's symptoms, and in March my AM cortisol was 8.75, so low-normal. I was sure I would have a diagnosis after my ACTH stim test. Unfortunately, I've hit another dead end. Here are my results:
8am baseline reading - 12.82 ug/dl
30 Min after injection - 20.88
60 Min after injection - 24.44
I was stressed about the procedure to begin with. Then the nurse who drew my blood could not hit my vein and it was a very painful process as she continued hunting for it. It hurt so much I was almost in tears. This happened for the first two draws, and then I finally asked for a different nurse for the third draw. She hit my vein with no problems as most do since I have very prominent veins. I was so upset. Also, they had me walking back and forth between the lab and the waiting area after each blood draw.
Is it possible that my results were skewed by these factors?
I experienced an adrenaline rush shortly after being injected with the ACTH, and until about 5pm my heart was pounding pretty hard and I felt lightheaded. Is this normal?
I am 38 Year Old male, Have been an athlete and or worked out since the age of 12 (super active). For the last 10 years or so I have been super fatigued/tired, don't recover well from exercise, terrible reactive hypoglycemia, muscle twitches, tan year round (i used to be white/pail as could be, now I carry at tan year round) short temper, sleep like crap. I can't seem to handle heat or a ton of direct sun. I will get sick for a day or 2 nauseous/fatigued/headache (it is not water usually i will drink 2 liters of water while out hiking for the afternoon.
I have taken 3 different Saliva cortisol test and all 3 looked the same, cortisol was in the tank upon waking and slowing rose throughout the day. The complete opposite of what it should look like. I finally talked my doctor into doing an ACTH Stim test. I have only got back the Cortisol results at this point, But they are very interesting??
From all that I have read on intercepting ACTH results your baseline Cortisol should double at 60 minutes. According to this test is should be >18 at 60 minutes I only rose 8!!! Please see results below.

30 Minute Draw- 26.4, Standard >7 Above Baseline Result, JUST UNDER BY .3

I am a little confused on how to interpret these results?? Like I said I should have the rest of the numbers in a few days.
I was recently tested negative for all STDs except herpes type 2 which I have had for years and so wasn't tested. I forgot to tell the doctor I am on Valtrex 500mg daily for suppressive antiviral treatment. Can this have an effect on the results of the tests for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, or hepatitis (hepatitis)?
Can I reply on the negative results or do I need retesting after coming off the herpes antiviral medication?
My husband was diagnosed with iron overload and had the DNA testing done for Hemochromatosis, he has been waiting 7 months now and was told it would be another 4 months til he sees a Dr. to discuss the situation. My question is with waiting this long and not knowing how long before that he had high iron, will this be affecting his organs in a detrimental way.

Afternoon test read 2.8 out of 5-15
Morning test read 3.8 out of 5-25 Both low
Do i now have a Acth test done to see if its the adrenals glands or Pituitary or Hypothalamus Producing such low cortisol ?
I have abdominal cramping , hot flashes , constipation . tired , weak and major weight loss 35 + pounds in 8 months .
i had my period last june 9 2014, then on june 27 and 28 i had a light spotting.den, i felt something's wrong with me..there's a feeling or slight symptoms of a pregnant woman..a boobs are tender to touch and painful..my body feel hot like i was having a light fever..than july 1 i take a pregnancy test and shows positive but faint line.. then, july 2 to 8 i got again spotting.. and goes away.. july 14 i took another pregnancy test shows again positive faint line.. i went to my ob july 18 just to know her what's happening on me. i had that light spotting again..and in transvaginal ultrasound shows that there was a thickening of the lining tells me that i am positive. 5 to 6 weeks, but i have a cyst considered benign.nothing to worry about she said. she gave me medicine duphaston good for 10 days, and i'm going to come back for a follow up appt. on july 28. again the spotting continues sometimes light bleeding, sometimes full on my liners. another medicine duphaston gud for 5 days she gave me because on the ultrasound she saw only thickening of the linings and the baby wasn't developing. then, this day august 1 i came back for the final appt, i took a blood test and shows negative. transvaginal ultrasound shows again the lining on my ovary.

Had a protected vaginal sex with one girl with unknown HIV status during 11th of August 2013 for 3 times after that I had a foreplay without protection keeping pennis on her vagina without Inserting / penetration into the vagina for 5 minutes but during that event my foreskin pulled back. I am totally convinced on my protected vaginal sex and bit worried on my unprotected foreplay and believing that some of the vaginal precum fluids may entered through my urethra. My anxiety starts since I got mild fever (38 degree) on September 9th 2013 exactly 28th day evening which exists for one night after putting antibiotic injection after two days I faced fatigue exists for 2 days and after 2 days I had mild sore throat with dry mouth exists for one day and after 3 days I faced diarrhea 2 times a day and exists for 3 days.. all these days I got small red spots rashes 10 - 20 no's which on my shoulders and mild night sweats which only on my neck and hand elbows 1 hour after I slept. But I never faced fever on these days expect the day -1. Never faced swollen glands and swollen lymph nodes up to now.
I am totally worried and got anxious and had a Standard HIV antibody rapid test for HIV -1 & 2 on my 53 th day ( i.e.: Oct 4th 2013 - 7.5 weeks from my possible exposure date) and it came as non-reactive,
I took western blot test on my 58th day again it came as negative..
But from Oct 5th I am getting small rashes on my hand and in shoulders and in legs and some of them in legs are itching...
1) Kindly advise me will my 7.5 weeks standard antibody negative & negative western blot test at first day of my 9th week (ie : 9/10/2013) will likely to change positive on my 12th week standard antibody (HIV 1 & 2) testing.
I have a question I took a oral swab home test today 5 year post exposure condom broke. The exposure was anal sex. My question is i had a few sips of water prior to the test due to dry mouth is my negative result false or not conclusive?

View 3 RepliesI'm 19 years old and every summer for 4 years i've been working with my brother in law painting houses (for the most I wore a mask while painting) a year ago I graduated from high school and decided to keep working in the painting business also on december I started smoking, I wasn't a heavy smoker maybe 12 cigarettes a week on may I reduced the amount to 6 a week then 3 on may 27 I smoked my last cigarette and 3 days later I went to the ER because I had pressure on my chest ,back pain, and I was coughing,(I also experience night sweats) they took some xrays and everything was clear and I was diagnosed with pleurisy well it's been a month now and I'm still experiencing the same symptoms.
How long does pleurisy last?
Could it be lung cancer? Or is it just the nicotine withdrawals combine with the infection that's causing all this symptoms.
any idea gave up smoking two months ago been ill two weeks doc said chest infection and pleurisy finished all antibiotics and painkillers still got pain in left shoulder and side doc said its because i gave up smoking and i am prone to infection anybody else been told this also got pain in left calf and down my left arm anybody got the same help me

I am full of acute Anxiety myself as I need to get my Husband better. He is on antibiotics and strong painkillers as well. He also suffers from arthritis and also is deaf & severely sighted.. I am giving him hot fluids as much as possible.
View 1 RepliesJust wanted to share my experience, the weekend before Easter I had to go home from work on the Thursday with Flu like symtoms, I returned to work the following Wednesday, still feeling under the whether, coughing but thought to myself that I have a long weekend to come so I would rest and recover. After the Easter break I returned to work still not up to par and still coughing but also had a pain in my lower rib cage as if someone had sharply elbowed me. These symptoms continued onto the weekend and on the Saturday became worse, I had to pick my daughter up and the cold wind hit my lungs and it took my breath away. On returning to the car I couldn't fill my lungs up the pain was so excruciating, after the car warmed up the pain subsided enough to enable me to drive home. On returning home the situation became worse and I waited for my husband to come home and he had to take me to accident and emergency where I was admitted straight away. They had to administer morphine for the pain to enable me to breath more easily, it was as if I were being stabbed with a thousand knives. The doctor, after blood tests and x-ray diagnosed pleurisy and I went home with Ibuprofen, codeine and paracetamol which I took to the maximum daily dosage!
1 week later I was at my own GP who gave me another sick note, I saw him again the following week and after examination he said that the pleurisy had gone but I had had a double whammy as I was also suffering with costochondritis and it could take a while, just to rest and keep taking the tablets.
It is now 28th April and the symptoms on some days have now subsided enough to the enable me to do very light duties and on other days I can't do much at all. The doctor hasn't really given me much indication as to how much I should or shouldn't be doing, feeling very frustrated, the mind is willing but the body isn't. He said that, "many people don't realise that more people die in a year from influenza than meningitis and I had to be patient". Being a full time working Mum who is usually house proud and very busy, is now living with a basket full of ironing and dust that I can write my name in. My employer has been very understanding and great about it all but not sure how long they will be patient and my work will no doubt be building up there too.
I've felt so frustrated for many years. I too was told muscular/skeletal. While experiencing short breath, extremely tired, pain that shoots like a spear on left side from upper rib cage, center of left breast through to back.
In 2012 after hours of waiting, the blood clot I guess hit me hard, I was out, woke in room with heparin drip. Then told blood clot in upper lobe of lung and pleurisy.
After doctor visit Thursday my pain got so unbearable, and cough, husband drove me to ER this past Sunday. Again sat for hours. Then x-rays, and told had pleurisy. Sent home, told to take tylenol and bed rest.
My pain is off the chart now, I can't take NSAIDS since on coumadin.
I'm feeling very spacey, lightheaded.
I can't drive myself anywhere.
I need to work around husbands very long work hours.
And, if do go, what do they do, say, "more bed rest and stay hydrated"?
I don't have money to burn, for such non-sense.
Is there not any treatment for pleurisy at all?
